Im wondering if anyone can help me figure out whats wrong with my G1. It tends to shut down when using the web, market, apps, and during calls. all i can really do is text now.
i wasnt sure if its the battery. it chargers fine in my USB cable in my computer but it wont charge much due to my messed up AC charger.

Problem flashing Wizard

I was attempting to do a new upgrade to WM6 after running the stock WM5 for about a day, and during the flash process the RUU utility crashed on my business laptop (The memory location could not be "written"). Ever since then, my phone boots up in the three colored bar RUU mode.
After reading http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=294107, I felt that all was not lost and it looked like I could just simply reflash while it was in RUU mode. The problem now is that whenever I try to flash it, no matter what rom (stock Cingular rom, T-Mo 2.26, different WM6 roms, etc.) the phone reboots anywhere between 1 & 4% through during the flashing process.
I don't know what the battery % is anymore (since I can't boot directly), but I know it was around 80% when I originally started. I tried plugging the phone into the charger (not USB to PC) and the phone went into RUU mode on there as well. Is there a way to charge the battery while in RUU mode?
Are there any other ideas? I don't really know anyone with a Wizard so I don't know if I can swap a battery with someone else to give that a shot. Thanks in advance for any help,
Jason
You could cut open a usb cable and manually charge your battery. I have done that before by taping the wire leads to the battery and letting it charge for an hour or so.
Which wires would go to which leads on the battery?
Try to shut down and plug your wiza into the USB. Take out your battery and plug it in prior doing this...It happened to me once..sorry I don't remember exactly how I fixed it...but I remember trying more ways.
Do you mean shutting down the phone or the computer?
I have tried pretty much any combination that I can think of. I finally hit 50% without the "communication failure" from occurring. When it happens, the USB "Ding-Ding" noise happens indicating that it has been unplugged, and when the phone boots up again the noise happens again showing reconnection.

Ugghhhh I'm so pissed at the phone I just want to smash it lol I would never do that. I was even ready to try to exchange it under warrantee but I was trying some different flashes to make sure my battery troubles were h/w and not s/w first :-/ It is in the fridge now cooling off while I pretend that it is going to help...

WHAT ? You put your Wizard in the fridge ? Man, that's insane !
I hope you're joking if not, get it out of there.
First make sure that you have the battery charged, and only then move to the next phase (flashing)
After it's charged, use a ROM that you know for sure it works !
This is easy, you're making it hard.
P.S. I meant take the battery out of the Wizard, then put it back and only then connect to PC through USB to charge it.
lol I was teasing but in computers I have used the freezer trick on hard drives that didn't like behaving
Yea I have tried like a 100 times tonight with no luck though. I have to resist physically damaging it to try to do the battery theory tomorrow when hopefully I can convince some stranger @ work to let me swap batteries with him for an "experiment"
Jason
I would suggest maybe trying a different computer to flash from or at least a different USB port, but since you said that you're using a laptop that may not be an option. If you do have a second USB port though try connecting the sync cable to it. From what you've described so far, you should be up and going again already by now.
Sounds like your battery level is low. Plug your phone into a wall charger, don't worry whats on the screen and let it charge for a while.

I hear that sheet! been there done that. 2yrs ago with my blue angel, and just a few months ago with the wizard. it works (if the battery% being to low is the problem)
Good so it still sounds like it will chare in RUU mode? I am leaving it in that state right now for a couple of hours to see if it helps.
Jason
It is rebooting like once per second now pretty continuously. I don't think it is getting much of a charge :-/
I still think it is your battery. I had the same problem, I let the battery charge overnight. I don't know how long it takes to charge when the phone is in that state but it might not charge as fast when it is.
You have to use a wall charger and some people suggest a cradle charger but I used my wall charger.
Also if the battery gets to low it won't charge. I don't think that is your problem but if it is you would need to jump start or get a bit of charge on it so it will charge. There is a thread about doing this using a 9V battery.
Good luck.
Well I tracked down someone with a 8125 today and convinced him to let me borrow his battery for a bit, and the flash took just fine. Now I'm back to running stock Cingular WM5 :-/ I think I will let it run like this for a couple of days before I get adventurous again, and if the battery flakes up at all, warranty exchange since the s/w is stock now
Glad to hear you got it going.
Not to highjack the thread but i seem to have a similar problem.
I can sync my 8525 with the computer, but when i start the ruuwrapper and it starts to sync, it shows i have a connection problem.
Like regularly, i can like remove and add files and what not, but just when trying to flash it with a new rom, it disconnects on its own.
Error (260)
Can someone shed some light.

G1 Not Charging !!! Help

Ok guys i hope some one can help with this ...It all started yesterday when i tried to charge my phone. it kept saying charging at 0% and it stood like that for hours. so i tried another charger & battery and the same thing. I even called t-mobile and they told me i could be a hardware problem, so i was woundering if theres any chance it could still get fixed ??? i am willing to pay if anyone can fix my phone i am located in los angeles pm me if your up to it .
thanks in advance.. if phone is not fixable i will be selling it for parts!!
Tmobile should give you a replacent! Free of charge.
and umm have you tried taking out the battery leaving out for a minute or 2 and then putting it back and trying to charge it?
That is correct.
So long as you are still under warranty, T-Mobile will issue you a replacement phone.
However, if you have any root/modded firmware, you may want to revert back to Stock.
ya i called t-mobile and they said that since i bought the phone off a friend that it void the waranty ...so im stuck with a bad g1 till i get another one and or sell this one for parts...how much would you guys say its worth for parts it works but it has to be plug in at all times>
Not sure if you have access to this, but you may want to try switching out the batteries with a friend. If that doesn't work, go to any T-Mo store and tell them you need to test the battery/phone.
If it works on a new battery, your solution is there. Buy a new one for about $20-$50
It's worth a shot, considering you'd be selling someone a good phone for cheap, lol.
Same Problem
Hello, I also have the same problem with it charging. The usb port seems to work, I bought a new battery and it still doing the same thing. So I built a charger that I can just stick the battery in and I just swap them out. The phone shows the orange light and also says it is charging but it does not charge the battery.

Buy a stand-alone battery charger. Search google for "g1 battery charger" and buy a product similar to this: http://www.netimes.com/shop/desktop-cradle-with-2nd-battery-charger-for-google-g1-p-1506.html
There is probably something wrong with the charging circuit inside the phone and this *should* be a decent work-around for it.
I had this problem with my old HTC Wizard... I just hacked the end off a usb cable and taped the 5v line to the battery terminals to charge it.
I am NOT recommending this as a solution.. but I still have both hands and a functional face.
Ive been having the exact same issue with my G1 phone since updating to the latest Cyanogen rom. Im not saying that the ROM caused the issue, but that the issue developed on the same day I did the update.
I contacted T-Mo and they have shipped me a brand new phone. I had to un-root and go back to the stock ROM, but that was not big deal.
It was definitely an issue with the charging circuit. I have two G1's and was able to charge the battery in the spare phone.
Can anyone help me with my issue. i had a old battery on my g1 that got expanded and wouldnt hold a charge for that long it would just die. Now i bought 2 new batteries and charged them till they were full. Now when the phone dies and i plug in the charger to charge the new batteries they do not charge. I have to put my old expanded battery charge it till its green take the old battery out then put the new one in and then it the led will come on saying its charging. When I try and charge the new batteries when the phone is off it says its charging but the percentage doesnt go up. Anyone have a reason why these batteries wont charge while on, and the only way they will charge when off is if i put the old expanded battery in first charge then charge the new ones. Im running a rooted g1 on 1.6, I just dont understand why I cant charge the new batteries when the phone is on, or when its off unless i use that method. ANy help would be appreciated and thanks in advance.
Oh yea I have had the phone since launch and im sure the warranty is expired.
You have to change the phone motherboard. Its a hardware problem.
Only solution : Send it for a replacement!
Also my phone is dying fast with the new battery the display and idle is eating it up. I know I can reset my battery stats but when i reset them at 100% i cant reboot and charge to 100% because the phone wont charge while on......Do you guys think if i got a external wall charger i could charge the batteries and they would work. My phone might be reading my old battery stats thats why it doesnt last that long even on new battery
I had the exact same problem, my phone would charge when i plugged it in to the pc but not in the OEM wall charger, so i bought a usb wall charger adapter and used my pc data cable plug and it worked perfectly. Ebay sells them for 4-6 bucks with an additional pc plug, just search htc g1 wall usb adapter charger.
I understand that much time has left, but I have the same problem, the phone is not charging(but 'speaks' that charging is going on). I don't know about the others, but I have noticed that phone can charge in fastboot mode. It charging very slow and I think it because the screen is always on and white(Spl: 1.33.0013d).
It charges only after a strict sequence of actions:
1. When the phone is off turn it to fastboot(power+back)
2. Wait for several secconds.
3. Plug in charger wire.
There is no result in other sequences. I have measured the battery by voltmeter and voltage is truly rising. But LED is off while charging and also phone is warming.
Like others, I tried to change batteries and chargers with no results.
It looks like many users have the same problem, and maybe it can be solved by software methods.
At least maybe there is some way to charge it like in fastboot, but with screen off? It would be more faster.
I've tried to use some programs like battery calibrator, but they are not purposed for such things.
try leaving the battery out for a while, than put it in device and d not power on, plug in the charger and let it charge for a couple hours, than boot into recovery and wipe battery stats, reboot and see if anything changes...

I've tried doing so, but it doesn't charge at all while the power if off(but LED is RED). Although I have wiped battery stats now and many times before after 100% charging in fastboot mode with no result.
The question is in difference between charging in fastboot mode and other modes.Maybe someone knows this difference and will help with this problem.
It doesn't charge in recovery mode, while the power is off, when the power is on (system says that it is charging but the percents are going down), and in all of this states LED is working well(Green, Orange, Red). In fastboot mode the LED is off but the charging is going on. Maybe there is a way to emulate fastboot charging mode in system drivers.
By the way, I have changed several ROM's after problem has appeared. Now it is COS-DS(07192011).
I hope that someone will help me and other users who have this problem.
hmmm, wow that is strange... could possibly be a hardware issue... doesn't sound like anything a custom rom would cause, hope you can find an answer to your issue

Xperia Z Stopped Charging

Today my girlfriend's Xperia Z stopped charging completely and eventually ran out of battery as of now its just a brick
I've tried using multiple cables but none are working and ive also bought a Docking Station for the device so ill guess ill have to wait for that to arrive...
When you fiddle around with the cable the LED does light up at times.. and if you manage to get it in that right spot and keep it there,
The LED just flashes very fast and doesnt seem to actually give it any charge at all, Still cant power it on, Nor does it overheat.
Just wondering if anyone else has experianced this problem and has fixed it in anyway as the Docking Station is not always the most pratical way to charge for her.
If the last resort is sending it off to be fixed, does anyone know how much it will cost (£) or even if it can be fixed?
Its not waterproof anymore either since the rubber seals have started to deteriate over time which is not great..
But that is not the cause of the phone to stop charging. Just another problem.
Thanks in advance

[Q] Hot phone not charging. samsung I9305 s3 4g lte

Hi,
VVnoob so please be gentle. I have searched but problems not exactly the same.
I have the samsung I9305 4g lte.
My phone will not charge and gets hot. When plugged in without the battery it still gets hot (unplugged vquickly) and does not come on. I see nothing, no battery sign, no light.
The last time i charged the phone, it didn't seem to charge and with a little change of position it did. I then used it and went to charge it at about 15% battery, (usually when the phone is off as its quicker (still an age) but can't remember on this occasion.....as) then next time i looked, no charge at all.
Nothing has happened in between times. Could this just be a need to change usb charge cable? The port does seem like there is play in the cable when its in, is this normal? The surge protector tells me charge goes through (Thailand though so not sure if power is regular) and obviously the phone gets hot but nothing else. It is clean, not used all the time as a normal phone and out and about irregularly. I really need it though and it cost me a lot of money and would appreciate any help.
It is not rooted (I dont know enough of what i'm doing!) and aside from some apps on it i have not done any form of fancy modification. I am using original samsung usb cable/charger adapter. It will be updated to whatever version samsung has updated to so I'm not sure what android OS its running or anything else.
Any help appreciated. Apologies for being verbose!
you may try to change the cable as every cable have its life cycle even the stock one

p1000 is bricked after plugging it in a bad car charger, HELP :(

Hey guys, hope you're fine and healthy,
could you please help me with this?
I tried to charge my p1000 in my car, I used a car part that can be plugged in the car lighter (not made especially for tabs), and has a usb port, but when I plugged the p1000 USB connection in it, the tab turned off, and never turn on again!
I tired everything, but it seems that either the battery is damaged or some high voltage caused a hardware malfunction :/ I will take it anyway to the technician but I wanted to ask you if someone has an idea of what happened exactly? what would it be in your opinion?
many thanks,
The Programmer

Personally, I think the Tab may have gotten too much voltage. Maybe damaged the eMMC chip? Battery is a possibility though.
I have a Galaxy Tab 3 also, and trying the same thing I fried the car lighter outlet!
Now I use a power inverter meant for a laptop and the wall charger for the Tab.
