Hey guys, hope you're fine and healthy,
could you please help me with this?
I tried to charge my p1000 in my car, I used a car part that can be plugged in the car lighter (not made especially for tabs), and has a usb port, but when I plugged the p1000 USB connection in it, the tab turned off, and never turn on again!
I tired everything, but it seems that either the battery is damaged or some high voltage caused a hardware malfunction :/ I will take it anyway to the technician but I wanted to ask you if someone has an idea of what happened exactly? what would it be in your opinion?
many thanks,
The Programmer

Personally, I think the Tab may have gotten too much voltage. Maybe damaged the eMMC chip? Battery is a possibility though.
I have a Galaxy Tab 3 also, and trying the same thing I fried the car lighter outlet!
Now I use a power inverter meant for a laptop and the wall charger for the Tab.

I recently had the exact same problem as you and got extremely frustrated since every car charger at every store didn't work. I bought one that said it was compatible with the tilt the other day, but when I tried it in the car it didn't work. I figured at this point it was definately my phone being either a hardware issue or a physical issue. I got on the forum and through many searches I found this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=406771&page=3
Basically, my 5th pin inside the USB connector came out of allignment and wouldn't charge via car charger. It would work with the headphone adapter with the charger connected through there and then held tightly to the phone. This verified something was loose in the USB port. So what I did was:
1) Turn off the phone (**Very important to make sure nothing shorts out)
2) Take a small flat screw driver or other flat object and carefully push the 5th outer pin (on the right when looking at the phone resting with the screen side up) and level it with the other pins. (*** BE VERY CAREFUL SO YOU DON'T BREAK THE USB CONNECTOR MORE SINCE IT CAN BE VERY FRAGILE WITH TOO MUCH FORCE!!)
3)Test it out (YAY it works!!)
This worked for me and now I am happily enjoying my car charger with no issues. Activesync is also working better by not hanging on calender items. Hope this helps you solve your issue so you don't need to send it in to AT&T.
NAV charger
maybe it is mechanical.
but i have very similar obsrvations actually throuout my history of htc devices. they would "suddenly" stop charging thru non standard chargers.
the same happened to me with my tytn2 and a regulaar usb car charger...charged fine until one day it wouldn't anymore.
Although i have no technical explanation as to what happens in the device to cause such a change in "attitude", i figured a "stronger" charger could maybe help and purchased a USB charger designed for (i think) Navigon GPS devices. The charger is larger and obviously stronger and has been working for half a year now reliably, while all others wouldn't.

Hello I have a very serious problem whit my Kaiser it doesn't charge, only on usb. I have a PDA charger, and a car charger(may be this is it's name) but they don't charge my kaiser.
I upgrade the radio recently and than i upgrade the rom. After that i discovered that problem.
Moreover the mini usb connection port on my PDA is in bad condition.
Perhaps that is the problem?
Please answer me.
If the miniusb port is in bad condition, it could be the port that is the issue.
Normally, if only one charger isnt working, I would say it is possible that the power supply on the charger is either sub-par or no longer working correctly. However, if your car charger isn't charging it either, that is a bit odd.
Was everything working properly until you began flashing things, or is it possible you just did not notice it until now?
EDIT: I misunderstood the OP and posted incorrect advice, please ignore this comment.
Well, before the flash the PDA charged both with the car carger and the regular charger.
But in the past I saw, when I plug the charger into the Mini usb port the PDA's led become orange (you know that's mean the charge) but the battery's power was the same after 2 hours. And now I connected again and the led wasn't change...:S But the usb carged my PDA 100% for the morning...
Well neither the chargers aren't the HTS's official chargers and the PDA isn't charge eith them when I turn of.
But it's charge from the USB. I can't understand it...
Sorry I have no idea, this is out of my league, I'm a noob
Wish I could help.
I have had the exact same issue since six months ago, and MiniDevil is probably correct.
If you look closely on the miniUSB jack on your phone one of the contact (golden) pins should be bent down, rather than up (if you are looking it with your phone's screen facing up). On mine is the rightmost pin.
When this first occurred I went to various repair centers and unfortunately no one could offer me a fix. You should check your local repair centers, maybe you have better luck.
I don't know what works differently from a USB port to a USB AC Charger. Maybe someone can clarify this part.
Good luck to you sir.
- Jim
Thanx all the answers
seriously? the usb works but the ac chargers don't because of the pins?! gahh. the igo might work...they tested it out at an att store for me, i just dont know which it is..i probably have to go back..
Hi guys, I have a samsung galaxy s vibrant from bell, and lately I have not been able to use my phone while charging. My phone lags and does not respond when i try to unlock the phone to go to the main screen. If I want to make phone calls and while charging the phone i would have to dial the number first then plug in my charger. But once its plugged in the touch screen does not respond at all. please hellp!! I;ve tried deleting apps to see if i have downloaded anything that may have caused it but it hasnt worked. I tried soft reseting, taking the battery out. So far nothing has worked. Any one else with the same problem?
Same Problem
I have the same problem with my Samsung Vibrant....I don't see the same problem with my usb to wall-outlet charger....however, the touch screen freezes up when I use a third party charger. Please help.
I have noticed this too. Anyone smart why this happens? Its not just galaxy s phones btw.
Noticed the same problem. While charging, the Touch screen doesn't work. Especially while using Swype, the Line is jagged.
....and automatic PIN
I have exactly the same problem (i9000, Sweden, 2.1 update 1). Unfortunately I did not think of the charger so I kept removing the battery
When connected to the charger when starting the phone and I have many pictures or video files on my memory card, the text "media scanning" and "media scanning finished" (or something like that) keeps repeating in the system info. When the PIN code windows appears, numbers are being highlighted quite randomly. Sometimes the "ok" button is indicated as well, so sometimes I have been forced to use my PUK code because all 3 PIN code tries had been done with noone actually touching the phone
Again, without the charger (and/or many media files) it works.
Maybe froyo could help
I am on 2.2 Froyo and it still happens for me.
Same problem with Froyo JPO!!
Problem with Selective devices or all the devices are having the same issue?
We need more confirmations.
thats because third party chargers have different voltage and charge that will affect your capacitive touchscreen. HTC chargers are recommended, since they are also touch screen based phones.
just searched for this problem and solved it immedieatly thanks to hoopjunkie's comments
i've 2 chargers,
the one came with the phone has output 5.00V 0.7A
one claiming to be samsung has output 4.75V 0.4A
I had never used the phone while in charge so never experienced this issue until 5mins ago
for some reason i was using the "fake" one since.
lesson learned check the voltage values, which i normally do, but trusting too much to the sellers got me.
ow and for the record I'm on froyo 2.2 i9000xxjpc
I am using the Stock charger. Same problem even with the USB Charging.
i wonder if theres a solution to this issue?
i am really getting tired of this problem -- i am using a nokia n97 charger.
i want to be able to download stuff from the market while the device is plugged in.

Hi, I got the same problem: no touchscreen when connected to USB of my laptop. I already noticed my phone acted weird next to my laptop. Once I ejected my cd-player the touchscreen worked again! So the electronics in the cd-player interfered with the touchscreen.
I've got a Rogers Captivate running 2.2 and I am having this same problem... it only seems to happen since the upgrade. This is using the stock charger and USB. Are there any possible solutions to this?
Same happens for my Samsung Galaxy S while charging from the stock wall charger. But the touchscreen works perfectly fine while charging from a PC's USB port using stock microUSB cable.
I think the problem lies with the charging current. The electrical field generated around the charger's wire due to a 500 mA (5 V) charging current supplied by PC's USB port seems to be doing no harm, while the 700 mA (5 V) charging current of the stock wall charger seems to be generating an electrical field high enough to confuse the capacitive sensors of the touchscreen. Perhaps the usage of a shielding core -- just like on the stock microUSB cable -- on the stock wall charger would help in negating the ill effects of the electrical field generated by a 700 mA charging current, but I'm not sure.
Anyway, my current workaround for the problem is obviously to charge from a PC's USB port. When a PC is not around or not switched on, I'm using a 5V, 500mA charger which was bundled with my iTech bluetooth headset. Obviously, both these methods have a shortcoming, that is slow charging compared to that of the stock wall charger. In my experience, this is a problem only when I use my phone for Wi-Fi tethering, in which case the battery capacity percentage continues to drop even when connected to a 500 mA charger. The positive side of 500 mA charging is that it gives a slighly better service life for the battery.
Same problem here, send my SGS to samsung and problema solved new display and display circuit its a know issue with some SGS's
So, for the past couple of days I've run my battery pretty much dry, when I got to a charger it was at about 6-12% both times. What I've noticed is that my phone doesn't seem to charge from anything except the charger it came with (in the dock... now that I think of it, I should probably have tested that as well, so it isn't just shutting down USB when low on battery) when it is in this low-battery state, nor does it appear in ADB. I tried shutting the phone off and charging like that, but it didn't work. As I am typing this, the phone (currently at a much higher charge) is successfully charging from exactly the same machine and same USB cable that it wouldn't work with last night while at 6%... what gives?
Has anyone else experienced this?
For the record I am running CyanogenMod nightlies (2013-06-10), however I am finding it difficult to believe that software would have an impact on this.

That's strange. I'm currently using my. Old x10 charger and got no trouble. The manufacturer should not have any impact for charging. You can use an iDevice charger if you really need juice. ( of course with the right cable )

I believe it's CM that not allows off charging... If I want to charge my old x10, I had to tun it on. If I connect the charger the green light tun on. So it go into flashmod.

I don't know how deep dose CM control the charging. Seems to be enough to make troubles... An answer from a dev would be welcome.
Hope I could help a bit.

Well like I said, at the moment (at 80%) it is charging fine using all manner of chargers (Apple iPhone charger included). It is only when I really need it that it doesn't seem to want to charge from "lesser" chargers

I guess I will have to restore Sony software on it and try at some point. It certainly doesn't seem like there is a good reason for this behaviour to be hardware related, I mean what if I didn't have the dock? (Again, need to test if the original charger will charge via USB in low battery state)

Not as bad as you seem to think
Ok, I think I've nailed this down. My Xperia Z dropped to 18% at some point during the weekend. And all I had to charge it with was an iPhone charger (providing up to 1.1A so that's still not too bad) and a USB cable without a data pair. This didn't start charging. However, luckily my friend had an LG charger with a USB cable containing data pairs. This did start charging! (And his phone charged using my iPhone charger with data-less USB cable) Unfortunately I am an idiot and didn't think to try his cable with the iPhone charger, but at least this is a start! (I'm starting to believe it is the iPhone chargers somehow, which is strange because electricity is electricity, and chargers don't discriminate)
I use my old N900 charger
Sorry to hear you have problems with the charger, I use my N900 charger to charge anything (that charges by micro USB - Including my Xperia Z) around the house with no problems. I can't charge the phone in a MAC or PC USB port if the device is not detected (even if the port has power), but I found out that lots of devices behave like this (I guess its a good way of forcing users to buy a "quick" charger).

Ok. It's effectively a start of and answer. It make me believe that the phone communicate somehow someway with the charger. But that sounds unrealistic.
You wake up my curiosity. Will try to look at this. But it will take some time.

That's odd, a micro USB cable doesn't change by the manufacturer, except if they change de voltage, i use the Sony cable and a GS3 usb cable at work, no any problem.
Anyway just in case i always prefer to use the manufacturer cable to avoid damage my phone.

We don't think it is the cable (unless it is a cable which only has the power pair and no data pair, that could be a problem), but rather the charger, that is causing problems.
Today my girlfriend's Xperia Z stopped charging completely and eventually ran out of battery as of now its just a brick
I've tried using multiple cables but none are working and ive also bought a Docking Station for the device so ill guess ill have to wait for that to arrive...
When you fiddle around with the cable the LED does light up at times.. and if you manage to get it in that right spot and keep it there,
The LED just flashes very fast and doesnt seem to actually give it any charge at all, Still cant power it on, Nor does it overheat.
Just wondering if anyone else has experianced this problem and has fixed it in anyway as the Docking Station is not always the most pratical way to charge for her.
If the last resort is sending it off to be fixed, does anyone know how much it will cost (£) or even if it can be fixed?
Its not waterproof anymore either since the rubber seals have started to deteriate over time which is not great..
But that is not the cause of the phone to stop charging. Just another problem.
Thanks in advance

i think it maybe a faulty usb port..i have encounter a faulty usb port on galaxy s 2 with the same problem as you, sometime if the cable is connected correctly it can be charge, but most time it just cannot..on the s2 the usb cable get very hot but the phone not charge at all..after change the usb port on the s2 the problem is solved..

Yeah it probably is, i've bought a replacement USB Port cheap so i will try and replace it when it gets here and hopefully that will fix it
Just a little dissapointing as the phone is less than a year old D:
I still have 6 year old phones that still work great makes me wonder about these new ones that break all the time
