Battery life concerns - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

CM 5.0.6/iR's 5/6 925mV CFS kernel
I know there are dozens (more like thousands!) of these threads out there on the internet, but is it supposed to be this bad? With GSM Auto PRL, automatic brightness, GPS/WiFi/BT on, and browsing on HDSPA for just five minutes, I dropped 4% in an hour according to JuicePlotter. It's way worse if I'm listening to music via Bluetooth A2DP (I dropped 20% in an hour).
What should I be doing? I keep hearing people have amazing battery life results with iR's custom kernels, but I haven't seen much luck with the 4/29 AVS one or the last couple 925mV CFS ones. What should I try next?

4% in 1 hour is not bad at all!!

Really? Well, I guess you're right. 100/4 = 25 hours :]
Is 20% in an hour normal when I want to actually do something with my phone?

Mostly everyone moans about the battery, and it doesn't last like a G1. Then again think about everything you're probably doing. Live wallpaper, so much push services, android 2.1, background apps, that 1ghz processor and wvga screen. Just be thankful you don't live in the middle of nowhere like me and lose your battery in an hour with your one bar!

Best Radio Rom for Battery life?

Anyone who's seen me in Rom threads probably knows that I usually ask the question about battery life, its like one of my obsessions... I want a phone that does a lot, but gets the most battery life too, probably not a winning combination, but it all helps!
I read on one thread that someone was using a radio version 1.10 and found it gave them better battery life then the new 1.13 with no loss of signal / gps.
Anyone got any thoughts?
1.13 radio
i just upgraded the radio in my hd to the new 1.13 from 1.09 and feel that the battery is a little better than before. i also currently running kwbr topix 1.0.1 wm6.1 rom. today will be the first full with that combo. i'll get back to you tomorrom on how the consumption is.
Have been using 1.13 since release and found no issues at all.
I am using Duttys 2.9 ROM and am getting 2.5 - 3 days of reasonably heavy use. Before i was getting 2 max before
Battery life sucks for me.....
2-3 days of battery life with heavy use.... i cannot even imagine getting that on my phone.
I dunno whats wrong with my phone .
I just updated to the new rom and radio from htc website.
Also, have disabled, wifi, data connections, active sync... all the stuff that take the juice out.
Also i am in NA, so also disabled 3g.
My setting are set manually for backlight and it is at the third point from the left.
I also have screen turn-off in 1min as well as switch off in 4 min.
In terms of program, i have pocket shield and incall touch lock program.
No after charging the battery to full.
This is wat i get,
Talk time- 30-45 min.
Music - 120 min. (S2P2 player)
Wifi - 10 min.
Now after almost 30 hrs.
battery is showing jst one bar.
==================================
Am sure what usage i mentioned above is definitely cannot be termed as heavy.
Let me know, if someone can help me to improve my battery life.

I'd do this too, its best to start with a rom, see battery life first without installing anything, then add bits one by one and you can usually eliminate the culprit!

What?
I have HTC Touch HD half year and batery never last more then 30 hrs with oficial ROM and clever use!

i use the music player for about 2 hour's a day and use the phone for about 1-2 hours and i am nearly always on the net with it as well.
edit: @drgopoos, WiFi eats battery like you wouldn't believe so no wonder you dont get more than 24hrs. I once had WiFi on and plugged the phone in to sync with my PC and the battery still went down. What happens if you dont use WiFi. Surely you dont need it 24/7?
I too am in the same boat, can't really stretch much past half a day with a bit of music, websurfing and the occasional email. No WiFi, only 3G. I've loaded a few apps (TomTom, CorePlayer and PHM Regedit) and don't have Exchange or anything active. Running Dutty V3.6 XT and radio 1.14.25.24.
Watch your power settings! My sat-nav program turned off the "turn off device after xxx mins" option in there. I could hardly reach 24 hours with one charge since the device never really turned off. This was really annoying e.g. when a reminder popped up at night, or when the phone was out of my reach.
After I realized that and set my option properly (screen 30 secs/power off after 1 min) my device lasts at least 2 days with normal use and even 3-4 days at light use.
I use radio 1.14.25.24 on Duttys 3.4 XT

A-ha. I am getting 2 weeks with extremely heavy use.
Brightness is set to 100%, Wi-Fi and BT are always on. And I talk 24 hours a day also.
mine always have some strange consumption of power when I leave it through the night
before I go to bed it would be around 50% but when I wake up (5 hours later without running any programs of course) it drop to Battery very low
I'm using Radio 1.14, when I was on 1.13 I'm not experience that problem
I got the feeling that the newer radios use more battery. I've just downgraded to version 1.09.25.14, which I think was the original one that came with the phone. I will let you know my experience with that.

Even with stock rom I would get no where near this, and I doubt anyone else would. I've used all Throys roms and yes it may be possible to get battery usage to maybe 2 - 2.5 days when left on standby but with heavy use!!! Extremely doubtful.......what do you classify as heavy use? Leaving it alone on standby locked in the cellar so no one can touch it!!
god, i'm happy when i make it through the day, meaning 12-16h without recharging, little to no music, hour or 2 msn, some net, normal call/sms, few weather updates....best i got was about 36h on Lost In Asia v5, generally Titanium seems to drain less then Manila :/
i could see getting 3 days if i buy 2 more batteries....or never unplug it from my laptop/socket :/

only two weeks ??? Your battery is probably broke !
Lil feedback with Lost in asia V5 and radio 1.14.25.24
around 36 h with heavy use
around 48 h with normal use
But i noticed that 4 things eat a lot my battey:
-when i check my mail and when the connection is bad ...
-when my HD is connected to my pc by usb
-when i'am in subway because sometimes it's edge, sometimes HSDPA etc...
- Wifi of course !
By the way, manila eat more battery than titanium...

never had these benefits...
perhaps you have a battery plus, or a special hd
I have suffered with battery life as well... Can never get past a day to be honest & I have tried almost every ROM from here including WM6.1 & 6.5. I use my phone mostly for music, little bit of gaming and web surfing. It is connected to net all the time though, because I have unlimited data plan. I normally leave home at 8:30 in the morning & till then the phone stays plugged in with the charger over night.
On the way to work and back I listen to music with normal 3.5mm headphone & sometimes play xtract or watch movie. The journey time is around 40 mins each way. I actively surf internet for around 15mins during break, not every day though. My emails get automatically downloaded after every 2 hours from 4 different providers. AND THAT'S ABOUT IT.
By the time I get home at around 6 in the evening the battery level is generally at around 65% and I consider this as light use.
Is there any chance to improve it?! I don't wanna buy those huge batteries which shatters the sexyness of the device.

HTC Desire Battery Fix

Has anyone tried the HTC Desire battery fix and confirms it works on the SGS?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=755903
Some people have implied it works but I'd like to know what you think?
Yesterday i was make all from this HTC Desire thread give, except wipe battery stats because i not found this thing in clockwork recovery menu, and i can say , it work for our device too. My Galaxy S battery last pretty better-smoother:
After all, i powered on my device in midnight 00:00, morning about 8:00 was battery 100% too. Standby without APN connection, recieved one SMS only.About 10:30 was 99% have one short about minute, recieved call. On 12:00 make APN conection (2G) and about 20 min was on the internet, some news page, company pages, etc., and battery dropped to 97%, about 14:00 some calls 3-4 min, dropped to 95%. On 15:00 was on the APN about half hour, battery go on 93%. To now on 19:00 hour battery is on 92%...I think this is great thing, beause before my galaxy was from 100% to empty about one and half day....
Next thing i use only when i need it, usualy stay:
1.WiFi off
2.APN only when need Internet(2G), rest is off
3.Bluetooth off
4. Animation off (in Settings)
5.Autorotate off
6.GPS off
7.Network location off
8.Autosync off
Best regards
PS (Sorry if my english is bad)
Just given this a try...will report back in a few days.
I tried it... i didnt notice a SIGNIFICANT change... although i did switch from ryan's lagfix to the voodoo one... so that maybe have had an effect. Overall it feels like the battery life is about the same...
Also no change for me, after 8 hours of use with wifi or 3g on whole time, dropped 35%.
I forgett say, i have stock I9000XXJF3 rooted firmware, newer reflashed any other firmware, none lagfix apk, or other etc. system things apk, expect task manager and startup manager... From 19:00 when a haved 92%, and now on 1:20 i have 89% with 15 minute calling, 4 SMS sended/recived, about half hour internet surfing on 2G, and 10 min play bubbles game. Tommorow i will tried GPS lasting and wifi. For me more than fantastic battery duration...I was Make exactly how read on HTC Desire thread, except wipe battery stats, but reboot i was make from recovery menu, not usualy with on/off button or some reboot apk, becaus, i think maybe battery stats itself refreshed-calibrated !?
Best regards
Well, I did this last night, and my phones battery status is now showing 98% after 11.5 hours.
To be fair, I was asleep for most of this time, and have only brought the phone out of standby a couple of times to check the time.
I also have APN/bluetooth/Wifi switched off, and i'm using only 2g networks.
Still, 2% in almost 12 hours isn't bad is it?
Nope....
I just tried it this morning. I still have the same battery consumption per hour with the same amount of using the phone. So I guess it's not working for me.

Wow, that's seriously amazing guys. No noticeable improvements here. Followed the procedure, it was 100% at 8am. It's 6pm now, and after around 25 texts, 75 minutes of 2g calls and 5 minutes of 2g browsing, I now have 27% battery left. Doesn't seem like anything has improved.
I'm on JM7 with voodoo, btw.

Yeah, and power saving mode on the display is annoying anyways.
This method seems like voodoo (not the lagfix voodoo), but many people on many devices seem to swear by it.
If you're not happy with battery life, get spare parts off the market and look into what's eating up the battery life. Check your data-sucking widgets, wifi sleep policy, screen brightness settings, etc. Get rid of those apps that are mis-behaving and turn down the frequency on widget data.
Wiping batterystats.bin file after a full charge usually helps if you haven't tried that.
Also, if this is your first smartphone with a big bright display and a fast cpu, get used to the fact that the battery isn't going to last as long as your Razr did, not anywhere near as long.
Get a spare battery (the SGS battery is so thin it fits in my wallet without even noticing it's there, get a spare desk charger for your office and keep a charger in the car. Dock/charge the thing when you have the chance to keep the % up while you're away from the charger, and stop worrying over this.
With virtually every new "ROM" I follow on this device and the Nexus One, the first and biggest complaint is usually "battery life sucks" in the early release stage; then the complaints start disappearing as the battery stats get a chance to settle down.
Yes, I did tried that 'HTC Desire' Method.
On my previous firmware JM5,
80% 18hrs
74% 1 Day 1 hrs 47min
And lasted until the 3rd day before I had to plug in the charger. All this with Wifi off and idling most of the time.
For JPC,
The battery level was awful until I applied the wifi fix for JPc
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=774507&page=5
Currently, my galaxy s is on 28% approaching 3 days (72 hours). So i guess in my case the battery level did improved. All this with playing games, wifi on (off when the screen is off) and movies. So the usage definitely increased, yet the battery still stands strong
Oh and another thing, the brightness level on JM5 was 30 (android lowest). I discovered Dimmer after that, which promptly reduced the brightess to 10 for JPC. That might explain the better battery part a bit
erm why does disabling power saving mode increase the battery life? i thought it supposes to save the power instead? My brightness is already set to the lowest means i dont need to enable power saving mode? wads the difference of enabling and dis-enabling.
Same question. Then why it's called Power Saving mode?

During this mode, the screen's brightness will adjust to the color/intensity of the image projected on your screen. If the image is bright, the brightness will go down in order to safe battery life.
If the image is dark (like most of the SGS's UI) it will increase the brightness because dark colors don't drain as much of the battery.
This sounds pretty confusing, but when you think about it, it makes sense.
I disabled this mode, because i think i conflicts with the automatic brightness setting =D
QuickSettings did the trick for me, if i'm in a dark area i disable automatic brightness and go for the lowest setting (Still brighter than an Acer Liquid or HTC Desire if you ask me ! AMOLED IS GREAT !)
So basically it means that by disabling the power saving mode save the power more instead? As it does nt increase the brightness nor decrease automatically?

I have tried this desire fix and it achieved no improvement at all.
I have heard that the best thing is to let battery drain then charge whilst phone is off.. but its too impractical to do this all the time..
I may be wrong but wasn't someone with good battery life going to share the batterystat file? was there someone mentioning a fix like this?
Also if you have 3 batteries how does that tie into the battery stats file.. after GPS fixing this is now seeming like a big problem, a few people i know and from an Australian forum have been disappointed with the battery life, and some people on here are getting 2-3 days
A guy from work tested it before taking it back and without sim, network, wifi etc got 23 hours in standby.
The website states something like 300 hours in standby? I think that is BS in fact on the samsung galaxy Australian site, they have replaced the battery standby to TBA...
Anyway after samsung took his device and 'tested it' they said the hardware was all okay, here is the new firmware.
As soon as I see him I will report what fw samsung gave him to 'fix' his battery life.

Charge with phone off while you sleep shouldn't be too hard, unless you need the phone for incoming calls or alarms.
I don't believe batterystats.bin can be shared amongst phones, it's really just a log of your own phone's battery performance, if I understand it correctly.
Three batteries (like you and I have) will almost certainly confuse the battterystats file, unless all three batteries have exactly the same performance characteristics.
300 hours in standby...? Well, those kind of stats are always under "optimal" conditions. Optimal for any smartphone would be to have the phone in 2G only, wifi off, BT off, syncing off, all widgets off, location off, etc, etc, etc; basically just your phone in cell standby and not being used for anything else. My Nexus One, which gets little to no use now, used to last no more than 18 hours as my everyday phone, now with Froyo on it, a few weather widgets, wifi on, location on, etc, etc, it will last several days off the charger. I think we all just use our phones a LOT more than we realize, and that the display chews up more battery than we think.
Looking forward to what new firmware Sammy gives your friend.
This really helped me and I'm dead serious, after flashing a lot of roms and somtimes charging to only 50-70 percent and then disconnecting it seemed that my battery drained way to fast! I followed this:
1: Charge phone whilst on till LED is green.
2: Disconnect phone from charger, power it off.
3: Reconnect to charger with phone powered off and allow to charge till LED is green.
4: Disconnect the phone from charger, power it on. Once completely powered on, turn it off again and reconnect to charger until LED is green.
5: Reboot into recovery with clockworkmod and wipe battery stats.
And now after 5 hours with about 20 sms send/received I still have 93% battery, normally it was like 83 or lower by then, so I'm very happy! thanks for posting

[Q] CM6 vs Chronos Froyo Battery life

Hello,
Which one has longer battery life? From what I read, Chronos Froyo has longer battery life and also it's more responsive? Why is that?
Can CM6 use the same code as Chronos Froyo for speed and bat life?
I think it depends on overclocking.

I use HO!NO ROM for the CM6 and this weekend i realized that i was 22h without recharge it and was with 80% Battery. No profile set.. no Set CPU... Mobile Data 100% ON!!
I simply can´t understand, why every one has different battery life on same ROM. I know it depends on usage etc. but I´ve heard that HO!NO has huge battery drain
Battery performance is based on how one sets up his phone, overclocking, wifi / 3g usage, media usage etc. But on the same setup , cronos wins.
Ye, why Chronos is better? Isn't base on CM6 too? Or it has it's own modified kernel that's why it's better? Is bat life base on Kernel?

This is based on what exact versions being compared?
I have now tried Cronos for the sake of everyone prasing battery life. I compared every ROM over at least 3 days use and i can say there are no big ddifferences as far as battery life goes between CM 22.11. Froyo 2.0.1 or Cronos 1.6 update1. There is some fluctuation, but nothing too aperent.
Older versions had quite some battery problems, that holds for all ROMs, but now only abaut 20-30% less battery for me on these Froyo ROMs, than on eclair ROMs i had before. For first Froyo ROMs it was like 50% less...
Well, the CM6 on the actual build (0.04) is imho far the best concernig battery-life.
Just a little less good than on SHOLS_U2_36.0 by G.O.T.
Before it was probably Cronos, but nowadays the difference is down to the voltage selected. On Cronos this is lower, so out of the box it should take up less power. However, clock for clock it should essentially the same. The rapid releases of CM6 takes the cake for me
I tried both Cronos 1.6.1 and CM6 25/11, I noticed no great difference.. just a feeling, Cronos runs more smooth at same clock, but they are almost the same!
Sent from my Milestone using XDA App
In my personal experience, Cronos 1.6.1 is currently the best ROM both in terms of battery life and responsivity/relayability. With everything enabled (3G, wireless location service, gmail sync) , is the only ROM that can give me 18 hours plus of battery.

Exactly. I believe both hit battery life with the same tweaks. Then it comes down to the voltage and clock speeds. CM6 should last plenty long too.
Pretty much identical battery life. I use my phone quite heavily so never get more then about 16-18hours. Maybe in long haul there is a difference but not with a well used device.

this. although i haven't updated yet to the latest CM6. my phone once lasts from 2.5-3 days, with minimal mp3 listening and harcore wifi usage.
before the upgrade to cronos 1.6.1 (best froyo to customize) i was using telusV5...
eclair could last even 50 hours without recharge.
froyo is 25 hours at its best.
i use H data always on, gps on, latitude, whatsapp, wireless almost never, i make lots of calls, i read news, play games like angry birds or asphalt5 few minutes.
i tried every combo of mhz and vsel from 1100 74, to 700 46...no significant difference, battery lasts always 24-26 hours.
I use c.m. roms, from about the 10th of november or something,c.m. roms last about twice as much as my stock eclair did,i'm sorry to say that, but if nadlabak didnt exist, cronos wouldnt exist, feeyo is waiting each time for nadlabak to solve each problem and then he will release his own rom.
Whenever nadlabak doesnt publish his work, cronos is stuck...
Nice guy maybe feeyo, but not milestone expert...
I prefer the original thing, wich is more superior in my opinion...

I used STOCK Telus 2.1 back in the day with the Overclock mod at 1000mhz/60vsel.
I used to push email from 8am to 6pm everyday at work. I had terrible reception at work so I would use 2G a lot during the day, but I would always have 30% AT LEAST by bedtime. I go to work at 8:30am and sleep around 12am.
Now I work at a different place, but I got into work at 11am today and left at 6pm. I took a break in the middle to get lunch, but since I work underground, I turn on airplane mode the whole time. It's now midnight (13 hrs since unplugging) and I'm at 40%. I'd say that if I had 50% of my time on airplane mode that's pretty bad. Other than that the other 6 hrs that I was out int he open I got decent reception. I just pushed gmail, sycned Facebook/Twitter hourly and weather every 3 hrs. Not too bad in terms of heavy use. Also I have the 2G toggle on. I just don't see how I'm draining battery this fast.
So in my case Eclair completely dominates. With HONO or TelusLite mod I probably got a little better battery life throughout the day. I dunno. I only had 1 month of work or so during the summer of using those ROMs before I quit and I stopped pushing exchange mail all day long.
You forget something battery gets worse over time. I had very good batery life on Eclair. Now i use Froyo for quite some while at begining veery bad battery life. Now latest releases quite better, but still not there so i went to try Eclair again for a bit and i found out even eclair doesnt have the battery life for me it used to have, battery is just old and its only half a year since i bought. But take this i charge it everydays ometimes more so in half a year a charged it around 200 times. 300times is the number i think battery gets quite worse.
Maybe one of you battery hawks can help me figure out what the major problem I'm having is.
I see people saying they get 24+ hours on a single charge, yet I have a difficult time maintaining 12 hours with minimal usage.
My provider (Bell Canada) does not have a 2G network I can fall back on, so that's one thing that could be causing major drain.
I am using SuperPower (but haven't noticed any major difference there), SetCPU to set processor to 250 when screen is on, 15sec before screen off, wifi off, GPS off, background data off when screen is off, auto-sync off, and data scheduled to be on for 5 minutes every hour.
I use my phone when I commute to check emails, play Angry Birds, and the like, and generally overclock to 700 or 800 Mhz, with 48 or 50 vsel depending.
Using my phone to play a game, check email, or surf the web for 10 minutes can cause it to drop 10-20%, and even when it's totally turned off overnight, if it's not plugged in it can drop to 20% or lower from a full charge just sitting on my end table.
Any suggestions/ideas?
EDIT: I wanted to add that I tend to use the most up to date CM mod, but have been trying Cronos since the battery life was touted so highly. Unfortunately, I find that Cronos drains the battery slightly faster than the 11.25 mod did. Testing the 11.29 version of CM6 currently.

[Q] My Battery is suicidal please help.:)

ok so i own the sprint htc hero obviously and i keep switching between plain cm6 and blackmod every few months or so. For my Kernel i use
Decad3nce-DecaFuct #589 691mhz CFS stable
i keep it clocked at 245-691 with collins battery tweak
i charge my phone to 100% and then unplug it. screen off, gps, mobile data, sync, bluetooth, 3g, everything is off. brightness is as low as it can go. so im doing everything i can to save battery power. if i leave it in my pocket all day it CAN last about8 hours....that being said at that point its basically a brick. however if i turn anything on obviously it dies faster. if im online for 45 min my phone will die. a five minute youtube video costs me 32% of my battery. there is no way that my phone should be acting this way and im out of ideas. i have tried switching roms, wiping battery stats, running through battery cycles reverting back to stock via the RUU nothing works.
PLease if you wonderful people have any ideas *PLEASE* help me with this.....
Well you could try running a more current rom like CM7 or Aosp's CM7 GingerBread. Also you could try running your roms without the Collins battery tweak. You could try using dec's battery tweak if you prefer to use one. You could try calibrating your battery. Just a few things you could try that might help.
Edit: Also do you have an on screen off screen profile set with the battery tweak???

i have tried cm7 and still had the same issue. and i am partial to the battery tweaks because setcpu and ocwidget seem like they would eat up resources wouldnt they?....i dont think ive heard of decs battery tweak tho....unless you mean the DECAmod one and i thought that was only for 2.1 roms.....maybe i got my facts mixed up tho...i calibrate my battery everytime that i flash a new rom to the phone. as far as i know the version i have does not allow for seperate profiles for screen on screen off.
I had the same problem and out of curiosity i dropped my processor speed from 710 to 576. Yeah its slower but on Aosp/CM7 and with sd-ext done its plenty fast. and with everything on and the phone in my pocket i drop about 4% every hour.

Deca's BattMod will work on CM7/aospCM7. However with CM7 you really don't need it (or anything else to overclock/underclock) as CPU settings are in the ROM itself. In fact, it is recommended that you don't, as they will/could fight with each other.
If properly calibrating the battery (properly is the key word) doesn't get you at least a solid day with moderate use, I would say it's time to look for a new battery. How old is it? Mine is about two years old and I still get about 2 days, stock aospCM7 ROM and kernel, moderate use with ONDEMAND 176/729

I'd still say that 4% an hour, without using the phone is way too much. If your battery is still good, you should be able to get better than that by at least half (2% an hour drop).
I have been up for two hours (unplugged at 6AM, it's now 8:56AM) and am still at 99% and that is with moderate usage (a couple texts, sent and received an email, one 3 minute phone call, some Facebook and XDA).
See ^^ for my settings. Give it a try
My brothers hero would die incredibly fast also no matter what we tried. We ended up RUUing and taking it into sprint. They did a battery test said they didn't know why it died so fast and ordered him a brand new one. He had normal batt life again after that.
So if all else fails try taking it into sprint and see what they tell you.

When you go to the battery usage stats in Settings--About Phone, what does it show you? That may show/tell what is eating up your battery so much.
What is your signal like? Are you in an area with poor signal? If so that could possibly cause the battery drain -- a phone working hard to keep a decent signal eats battery pretty quickly. Consider upgrading to the newest .29 radio baseband (if you're on Sprint) if you haven't already.
Try to check out the battery usage in your Settings and report back what it shows. We may can help you notice anything out of the norm.

my phone is about 7 months old. so battery *shouldnt* be crapping out quite yet as battery life on one of these seems to typically be about two years before it starts to crappify.
@MrDowntown12
i thought about that but was worried that the ruu doesnt get it COMPLETELY back to stock. good to know it does and that someone pulled one over on sprint ^_^ if all else fails then ill try this but in all honesty they will prob still charge me $50 and i just dont have it.....
@chromiumleaf
battery usage is:
Display 59%
cell standby 12%
Phone idle 11%
android OS 8%
Media 5%
setcpu 3%
google search 2%
gallery 3d 2%
"top -m 5 -n 1" returns
process id 2337 at 8% and 163 which i believe is the phone itself if im not mistaken is at 5%......everything else is zeros.
also i think my coverage is pretty average. throughout the day i typically have about three bars but my dbm is 80-100 the whole day and im not sure if thats high.
fyi these stats are while doing my battery cycles if it matters. and ive been unplugged for about 25 min and ive dropped from 100 to 91 with doing nothing but checking battery stats and running the terminal for a minute.
Edit: i know that android os is getting more and more popular....do you think its possible that i caught some kind of virus somehow???? the only ones ive seen are in china but is it likely that my phone is infected? also i want to run cm7 but as far as i can tell there really arent any stables out yet just the experimental nightlies and ive tried it and it didnt fix drain *immediately* but maybe after batt cycles? second edit^_^ i apologize i did not know exactly what you meant by signal. after finding THIS
-105 to -100 = Really bad
-99 to -90 = Not great
-89 to -80 = Pretty good
-79 to -65 = Good
Over -65 = Excellent
i now understand and my dbm hovers at about 88 half the time and the other half it shoots to 97

Ok so if all you were doing in 25 mins was checking battery stats and running the terminal for a little bit, it seems strange that Google Search, Gallery 3d, and Media would have some battery pull on them -- did you even open/use them at all? If not, then it seems like maybe you have some programs running non-stop in the background that are eating your battery even when you're not using them. Try clearing data and cache for any of those in your Settings-->Applications-->Manage Applications menu.
Also, just curious...when you change roms, do you wipe everything (data, dalvik, ext) before flashing to a new one?

I forgot to say that i have music playing through headphones whenever im awake lol, but yeah ill give that a try.
No I had not used any of those. I tried what you suggested and the battery is draining faster T^T. And I always do a full wipe. I wipe data and dalvik reformat my sd and as soon as I her the rom on my phone I go through three battery cycles.
HAHA Solved! for me anyway.
ok so my guess is that its not reading my batts full capacity because i didnt charge fully before one of my flashes. so what i did was:
*charge to full
*run my ruu to revert back to stock
*with phone -ON- charge til green
*power -OFF-
*charge for another two hours
*boot into recovery
*flash like you normally would
*Run through your Battery cycles like normal
since i have done that my battery has been fine. or as good as a battery on a smartphone can be anyway lol

anyone have bad battery life?

i see that a lot of people are posting amazing battery life results.. but no matter how hard I try, mine simply doesn't last 3 days with 8 hours screen on time etcetc
things ive tried:
factory reset then just install the essentials i.e. facebook, whatsapp, zite, mxplayer, pocket, myphoneexplorer.
battery calibration i.e. drain till dead/cant switch on, charge from 0 to 100 with phone off
adjust wifi, gps, autosync settings
and yet, see my attached battery stats. and that's with relatively light use (sat on my office desk) @ 2hr screen on time. no gaming, the most taxing activity was probably watching a movie with mxplayer for 20-30mins or so. the phone died completely 3 hours later.
my firmware is 81.5.39001.xt890.Retail.en.GB
it would SEEM that the battery goes down real fast with any usage.
i want to love the phone but it's not letting me.
thoughts?
firmware versions and screenshots of bad battery life please? lol
Well, mine does not last as well as advertised by others but likely better than this. It can get up to 5h of screen on time in web/video usage and maybe 3 days with less than 1h of screen on time. It also dies very quickly after 10%, 7%-4%-0% shutdown. Germany EU Retail stock firmware. Not the best battery i guess
Well my battery usually last between 1d 3 hours and 1d 20hours with usually display time between 1h 50m - 2h 30m and talk time 45m - 1h 20m talk time, with data or wi-fi always on , autobrightness always on and auto synch always on.
Facebook app and Whatsapp are mainly the guilty apps for the power consumption and data usage .... Without Facebook and Whatsapp installed and with ONLY wi-fi data i had superb power consumption .... 2d 10h and 4h 55m display time with 1h 30m talk time.
PS 2 more things that comsume power in Razr I are 1) music player and 2) FM radio

thank you for the input guys
@kourkoubas, i think ours is similar then
but i've yet to try turning off facebook autorefresh. sadly whatsapp must stay
i use Music/Pocketcasts everyday but then it's no more than 1 hour combined.
i think ill have to do more testing. that other battery stats thread got my hopes up too high i guess lol
@Simplestas does your screen brightness flash wildly just before it shuts down?
I was a bit disappointed with my battery, too. I read about those 8hrs screen on time and was just stunned. It depends a bit, how i use it .. Usually i have WiFi activated almost all day in university and at home / girlfriend. With 2.5hrs screen on time i always have ~50-60% battery left. Thats a common value for me as i sometimes need my phone for .pdf viewing. I normally have the brightness reduced to ~15%.
For me, it was a huge improvement over my old Desire HD, but it still could be better. Anyway i don't want to forget the fact that i used JuiceDefender with my DHD and used every option i have to improve battery life while i just don't have to at my razr i, it just doesn't die one evening or in the middle of the day like my DHD used to.

I don't think so.
Try testing if taking pictures with flash works with battery < 50%. If it causes immediate shutdown your battery is likely faulty.

well the battery % seems to be correct.. have attempted to calibrate it quite a number of times now.
it's just that the screen backlight becomes er.. like a flashlight running out of battery- dimming and returning to normal brightness a few times just before it shutsdown at around 2% battery level. just wondered if this is a common behaviour with xt890s/medfield cpus.
because ive never seen this in other moto phones nor any other smartphones for that matter.

well i believe that somebody out there is having really good battery life... just not everyone, sadly.
other than the outrageous 8hr screen on times etc, there are quite a few review sites praising its battery life so we must be missing something and i want to see if it's possible to find out what.
i agree though juicedefender work wonders.
used to rely on it a lot. now I just occasionally use "autosync free". it's more than good enough.
but i don't want to rely on these methods yet..

define good
let's see some stats
and what firmware are you running?
"worse" could just be the new apps you're adding to the phone?
cheers.
6h of screen time already IS GOOD, very good.
4h is what what sgs3 usually gets, 3h is what the n4 gets so 2more hours aint good? Everything gets +-2h with different usage e.g. google now and being on the move, mobile data...
It all depends on your usage but its about 25-50%better then the other quick phones around so please stop *****ing because u saw some very good screen and now cry because all your widgets, push email, chatting, mp3 destroy the screen on time you get
@yellowchilli: sry i cant see your attached screenshot, forum doesnt let me but if you usually get 2h of screen time you should call the support and get a new phone because thats not right.
edit:now i can see it. What did u do with the phone except watching a movie ? Nearly 3h aint critical i cant tell if thats normal or not it could be that you listened mp3 ... if you bought at a store go to them and get a new one anyway the store i bought in wouldnt mind changing it so i hope yours does the same

I get about 2-3 days with minimum usage (auto brightness, WhatsApp, Twitter, occasionally a phone call or web search or camera shot). I have the latest GB retail firmware, no root or whatsoever. Completely stock ROM.
Mine also never got past the 3h30 screen-on time, even if I didn't use it for much else... should I take it to the nearest customer support site?
Also, the phone gets real hot when the screen is on for some time...
This is what I get usually and I love my battery...
Running stock rom 39001.retail.en.GB
Non rooted
