Help with Sense and Hero roms - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have been on cyanogen and super d for a while now but recently decieded to try out the eclair Hero and sense roms, eclair flashes fine and I can flash the Kingklix hero rom no problem but I cant flash any other hero or sense rom.
Jacheroski rom at first just got stuck in a boot loop after reflashing the radio and spl it boots but everything and I mean everything force closes phone acore mms it doesnt even get to the setup process I have to do a battery pull and reflash kingklix.
On the sense roms it boots into htc quietly brilliant or nexus boot screen then just stops there waited more than 20mins for it to boot, nothing happens.
I've updated to the latest radio installed the death spl and updated to the latest recovery but I still cant get any other rom to flash, can anyone help

Not sure if it'd help you but commonly I havta wipe SD including ext partition to flash any sense rom.

what rom are you currently trying to flash?
what does logcat show while it's loading? (adb shell logcat)
is it stuck at the G1 screen or at the HTC animated screen?
what ext partition do you have? (type and size)
Did you wipe your ext partition, data and system first?

Yes I followed all the instructions doing a full wipe I repartitioned the sd card I changed the swap to required values. I was stuck at the HTC screen.
Since then I have managed to get kingklix Legend2g1 to flash it took nearly 20 minutes to boot but now works perfect.
Still cant flash Jacheroski rom though but I think it was the swap that needed to change, I tried to put a large swap on to help speed the rom up but it only seems to flash on 96 swap.

Upgrading SPL failure

Hiya ppl,
I recentlly rooted my phone and wanted to use teh JACxHERO ROM om my phone so I download the radio 2.22...... and the SPL.
According to the guides you need to do Radio first (update.zip) then SPL (spl_signed.zip). Then do a wipe and load your ROM.
The radio updated fine but when I do the SPL upgrade it is stuck at the G1 T-Mobile screen, or return to the recovery screen.
No matter I tried wiping and updating ROM again with JACxHERO again. Still same issue.
Put back my nandroid backup and other ROM is back. I also noticed that after the wipe all my data is still there nothing changed.
My question:
The radio is up to date. Should I:
wipe
SPL
wipe
ROM
wipe
????????
Thanks in advance
What recovery image are you using, Cyanogens? Is the SPL actually the new one? Hold camera and power when the phone is off and you should come to a white screen with skateboarding androids (if nyou come to a rainbow coloured screen, it didn't work)

Boot into the SPL and make sure it updated (Power + Camera button)
The SPL should be 1.33.2005
If not the SPL did not update correctly (If your using Cyan's recovery, do the SPL upgrade, but reboot pressing Home + Power instead of using the trackball)
If it is 1.33.2005, then try flashing another Hero ROM and seeing if it works
Also, make sure your SD card is clean (wipe your ext partition, you do have one right? )
one of the guides on here says that after you've flashed the new spl, you will get stuck on the g1 loading screen and you need to reflash with the rom you were originally running, let it reboot back into that rom, then try and flash jachero
eg
if you were originally running a cyanogen rom
flash radio
flash spl (then reboot and you will be stuck at the g1 screen)
reflash cyanogen (let it reboot completely)
then flash the jachero rom
that's what i did and it worked for me
I have the Cyanogen recovery 1.4 i Believe (latest and greatest)
OK really wierd indeed i see the android staking funny
This is what is says:
DREAM PVT 32B ENG S-OFF
HBOOT-1.33.2005 (DREA11000)
RADIO-2.22.19.261
APR 20 2009, 15:30:43
HBOOT
<BACK> Fastboot Mode
I enabled fastboot now as well.
Jet when I flas the JACxHERO ROM it is loopt at G1 screen or turn back to recovery.
**Just download all zip's will do it now.
Make sure you have the correct partitions.
So no ROMs will flash?!
I know I have the correct partitions:
ext3 500MB
FAT32 1400 MB
linux-swap 32MB
I can flash others but I want HERO
Its Flashing right now brb with answer
LOL it hangs at the HERO logo

Ok nice it worked thanks for clarying for me.
Only one thing, it is running slow. is it because of build ? or because my mem setting are incorrect ?

Welcome to Hero builds... they're all going to be slow compared to the Cupcake-based builds, though a lot of tweaking can help somewhat.
Also you have a class 4, a class 6 will help some more.
ok thnQ for the tip
And also my bat was running empty, charged my bat and worked a lot faster.

Can't install Cyanogen 4.2.6 nor Dwang 1.13

I am completely stuck as of now, tried everything! No idea what else I could try. I basically can install any rom just fine, Dwang 1.12 works fine, Cyanogen Mod 4.2.5 works fine too. I am not able to install the latest ones by either though, what could be the issue?
I have rooted MyTouch 3g.
What do you have on your phone right now, and what methods have you tried? What have your steps been?
I have 2 MyTouch 3g phones actually, one is my roomie's and I can install dwang's 1.13 just fine on it, weird .
For dwangs:
Backup
Wipe
Install
Reboot and get stuck on the MT3G boot screen
For Cyanogens:
Backup
Wipe
Install rooted Base
Install Cyanogens
Reboot and get stuck at MT3G boot screen.
It is my understanding that Dwang's latest is based off Cyanogen's 4.2.6, thus I can see why both of them won't work. But why?
I am on Cyanogen's 1.4 recovery tools, I've had Amon RA 1.3.2, as well as RA 1.4.

Sorry i can't help, but just to add on... I'm having almost the same issue, but with a G1. Although i can install any of Dwang's versions, including 1.13, but as far as cyanogen goes, 4.2.5 works great, but 4.2.6 and 4.2.7.1 i get stuck at the g1 logo when trying to flash. If anyone can help my set up is
SPL 1.33.0006
Radio 2.22.19.26I
Amon_RA recovery-RA-dream-v1.2.3.img
have you both done thorough wipes through the console?
Are you flashing the signed developer zip file before trying to flash the rom itself?
The process should be...
Wipe
flash signed dream developer zip
NO REBOOT
flash the rom zip on top of the previous zip
Reboot
you can find links to the signed dream dev zip here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=593626
Since the first guy has a mt3g, you'll need to find that primary file. The dream one wont do it for you.
check cyanogen's wiki over at cyanogenmod.com
I've had a similar problem. I follow all the instructions correctly, but Dwang's 1.13 works and CM doesn't. For CM I did everything, wiped, flashed 1.6, flashed CM, rebooted, and then it would go back into Recovery for some reason. I'd reboot again and it'd hang on the Rogers screen for me. I couldn't fix it so I wiped, flashed Dwang's, and his worked fine. No clue why CM wouldn't work for me since that's the ROM I actually wanted.

Yes the first reboot writes the radio files. The second boot writes the cache.
You will have to hit reboot when the cache writing stops. (reboot will become an option in the recovery)
This is the first boot of a brand new OS as far as your phone is concerned and it will take a few minutes. The boot process will take a while. The phone is writing and moving the entire android OS.
I have had mine hang for about 10 minutes before. Sometimes it is 5 minutes.
Mine normally hangs for about 2-5 in the G1 boot screen and another 3-5 in the cyanogen logo.

Can't downgrade or change rom, please help

Hi, I've been following the Cyanogen upgrade path since I rooted my phone a couple months ago. The problem is now that I have installed RA-recovery 1.7 and CM6 I can't get anything installed besides CM6 running on the phone.
I did install clockwork recovery and same for that. CM4 hangs for an hour+ at the boot screen. CG_slide2g1 and kings slide2g1 and various hero roms will install and boot but then rosie force closes and the only thing I get is the notification bar.
I downgraded to ra-recovery 1.6 and same results for each. Between each room I do a full wipe of everything, including sd card reformat, with same result. The only rom that will install is CM6.
Anyone have any ideas why?

I believe that you have to do a full system wipe from fastboot, as recoveries do not clean out all of the CM6 files.

Does apply for clockwork recovery to that you can format the various different partitions? Sorry, still learning and want to make sure.

[Q] Cannot get CM6 to boot

I rooted my Sprint Hero and have been able to successfully flash and operate Fresh 2.3.3 but CANNOT figure out how to get CM6 to boot. I wiped prior to attempting the flash but all that happens is a lockup on the HTC boot screen. I have attempted to flash it twice, and waited about 20 minutes the first time and 45 the second time with no progress, eventually having to pull the battery and reboot in recovery mode. I was only able to wipe the data but when I tried to wipe the delvik cache, it told me I needed to do it via ADB. I tried to partition my SD card but it ended up cutting the available memory in half, and erasing my backup, and I had to use an external card reader to reload Fresh so that I could actually use my phone (which IS fully functional now). Should I be wiping EVERYTHING on the phone (including the battery and rotate info)? What am I missing?
I have heard nothing but great things about CM6 and am very disappointed that I cannot get it to work. Can anyone help?
Sprint HTC Hero
Firmware version: 2.1-update 1
Software version: 2.27.651.6
try wiping your ext partition
I wiped everything that the recovery menu would allow me to prior to the first attempt at flashing and it wouldn't load. I pulled the battery and rebooted to the recovery menu then partitioned the SD card, wiped just prior to the second attempt at re-flashing, re-flashed and it still locked up at the HTC screen.
I like to think I'm pretty computer savvy but I just can't figure this out. Why would Fresh 2.3.3 load without a hitch, but CM6 not?
make sure you recovery is 1.6 or 1.7 to be able to wipe dalvik i had same prob
My recommendation would be flashing the recovery in this thread here.
This the recovery I used while I was using Fresh 2.3.3, and when I upgraded to the CM6 Nigtlies.
I say Flash The Custon Amon_RA 1.7 in Darchdroid thread->NANDROID!!!!->Wipe Data->Dalvik->sd-ext(if using apps2sd)->Flash RC1 or Latest Nightly (your choice)->Flash Optionally Google Apps->Optionally Flash Uncapped Kernel and/or Battery Tweak(I use the uncapped Kernel, and not the battery tweak, and I get 24 hours+ with average use)
Try that out.
Funny, im running into the same problem after flashing the wrong blackmod... wiped, reflashed cm and now it wont go past the htc white boot screen
It did boot before though which is odd
Edit: Wiped, wiped dalvik and ext part, flashed rom and gapps, working just fine now... will flash batt tweak, bm and round clock in a min, hopefully it doesn't break it
jUgGsY,
Thank you for being so thorough in your response, it all makes sense! My only issue now is trying to re-flash the recovery image. I downloaded the RA-Darchstar image but I'm not sure if it's correctly being pushed to the SD card (all I get is a long list of ADB commands, no particular confirmation) and when I try to flash the image, I get a message telling me that it can't find the partition. What does this mean? Is the recovery image really that important to the updated ROM? How come there is no specific recovery image recommended on the CM forum?
EDIT: I found directions from the Unlockr on the youtubes. Gonna give it a try and see how it goes after that...
So it was decadence#7 kernel that was screwing up my boot... removed it and using stock darchstar
Ok... this is getting ridiculous.
*I flashed the RA-Darchstar (1.7) recovery image
*NANDROIDed
*Wiped data, cache, Dalvik and sd-ext
*Flashed RC1
*Flashed the google addon
*Rebooted
Been waiting for the damn thing to boot for almost 30 minutes now, still stuck on the HTC screen. Can anyone tell me what is going on?

Are you flashing RC1 or one of the nightly ones? I had the same issue with RC1. I could not get it to boot past the HTC screen. However, the nightly ones flash just fine. I would suggest flashing a nightly. I now see you said RC1, lol. Try the latest nightly.
It looks like I will have to go with a nightly. Are there any that you recommend? The most recent or one from a few nights back?

The latest one seem to be very good. 8/22 but make sure you download the latest google apps for it also.
For some reason, I couldn't get any variation of CM to load on my phone (CM6 or the Vanilla variant). I went with Darch's LegendROM and it is excellent - much better than stock 2.1 for the Hero! Really fast and has some neat extra features. I noticed, though, that my reception is kind of bad now and I usually have excellent coverage at my house. I already downloaded the most up-to-date Sprint radio (2.42.01.04.27) but was just curious: do I need to wipe and re-flash the image FIRST or can I just flash the radio image over the already installed ROM?
AND: Please excuse my inexperience with all of this, but I'm about to ask two already answered questions: I'm not looking for long-winded answers but if someone could point me to a relevant thread, it would be GREATLY appreciated.
1) I keep getting a "process com.google.android.googleapps has stopped working" error when I try to sync with my gmail account. How do get this to work?
2) I remember reading that there was a known MMS issue with Darch's DroidROM, not any issue with the LegendRom, but I just received a "generic network failure" message when my wife tried to send me picturemail. Is there a workaround for this?
Thank you all for your patience!

(Issue) G1 T-Mobile (ERA PL) Cannot be flashed with any ROM

Hello again. Like in subject.
Issue happened when i tried to flash Liberty 5.1 ROM. Well i did not read all requirements ;/ - but i do have a nandroid backup that works like a charm (and i don't know why?)
specially about Radio: 2708+ and SPL: 1.33.0013d.
So i flashed it on Radio 26.91i and Hayakuro's SPL.
Than i read other requirements
3) Flash recovery-patch.zip.
So Dream was stuck in G1 logo. After super wipe i deciced to make 3) Flash recovery-patch.zip.. So i did. Still stuck on G1 logo. So i used this CMTD removing zip and i deciced to flash Radio: 2708+ and SPL: 1.33.0013d.. SO i did. Still nothing. i cannot flash any rom. Even DRC83_base_defanged gives a G1 stuck. Even logcat is't ready at the moment, and i cannot reboot it via SEND+Menu+END... battery removing, restoring nandroid, and on the road again.
Well i am stuck right now in 1.6 SuperD with RamHack, Radio: 2708+ and SPL: 1.33.0013d., 128 SWAP, 512 EXT which is superior fast, but i'd like to test other roms from time to time, and i am wondering why the device is being blocked on other roms. MTD should be restored, and even if i flash other rom on my nandroid backup (i remamber it should normally give bootloop) i am stuck with G1 logo.
If anyone could help me with this issue it would be super. I flashed many things to my G1 over the years (and this is third G1 ) but i have never been is situation when logcat shows -waiting for device-...
PS: i never got LIBERTY rom working :/
I have installed BananaBread 4.0 by Banana4444 and i think it's working. Logcat talks to me like crazy, Bootanimation breaks the glass. I wonder why...
Well i can see desktop
After a while playing with dekstop i will try to install something else and check if it will work.
Sometimes the remove.zip doesn't seem to work, I noticed that sometimes it needs to be flashed twice to get it to stick. You can always flash amonra again just to make sure.
Does adb work when you are using super d right now? If not then you probably have a driver issue. If it does then make a nandroid (sounds like you did) wipe all, supperwipe, fastboot -w, grab a known stable Rom (maybe ezgingerbread or froyobylaszlo) and flash that in recovery along with any gapps/kernel/etc. (Froyobylaszlo has gapps and kernel packaged with the Rom so try this one as nothing else needs to be flashed)

-Well i tried to flash it once, and after i sent AmonRA via fastboot. just to be sure its clean. It gave me no effect.

- i tried to flash Defanged, superD, super E, superF, CM5,6,7,9,10, FroyoByLaszlo, Liberty, CronMod, Superfast and chromatic - every gave same effect. I have nandroid via recobery, and logcat works every time. just new flashed roms are stuck before logcat can be run from /system.
In the evening i will try Laszlos rom and i will post results here.
Dude. Are we the last G1 forum readers?
