Hey peeps, My hero has been acting up for the last couple days and the weird thing about it is that I have not done anything new to it. I wanted to flash the new fresh rom and when I connected the phone via usb to my laptop it just charges. The phone does not get recognized by the laptop nor does it ask me if I want to mount the drive. I am running windows 7 and the phone would mount without a problem previously. Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks
If you want to browse your sdcard then pull down the notification bar and select charge only. It will then let you then mount the card and there should be an option at the bottom to always do it or not. Unchecked it.
. It sounds like charge only is set to default. If you are using adb then you have to have it set to charge only.

I wish that was the issue its set to ask me what I want to do which is charge only, htc sync, mount disk drive, or internet sharing. The problem is when I pull down the notification bar there is nothing there only my task panel. It use to ask me to pick an option. Now all of a sudden it doesn't.
What in the Hell is going on here?
lol. That my hero isnt recognized by any pc in my house. It only chrages when connected through the usb cable to a pc. I have tried numerous cables to no avail. I do not have a clue of what can be going on with it. This just happened from one day to another.
Yes, but why two threads about it? We gave you answers in the other thread. If they didn't work, that's fine. Come back and ask again... but do it in the same thread.
Now... did those things not work? What did you try? How did you go about it? Help us help you...
oh ok im sorry about that. this one should be closed. again i am sorry.
No worries. My rule of thumb, by the way, is to put my questions where I think they go and then let the mode move them if they so desire.

I got up this morning and decided to sync some music over to my captivate. I was surprised when I started getting errors that the device was not recognized. After four hours of trying to get the phone to sync I put it back to as vanilla as I could and brought it to ATT. After trying a new cable and just about everything else the phone has been declared to be defective. My problem is how do I get this phone back to original without a usb connection. The phone is not recognized by Odin, ADB or anything else so as far as my knowledge goes I am out of ideas. The phone works fine other wise but I thought some of the brightest on here might be able to help. Any ideas guys?
Try a different USB port.
Mine only works in the back USB ports, but won't do **** in the front ones.
I probably should have been a little more clear. The port is defective on the phone. They can't even communicate with the phone at the AT&T store through the usb port with some reader. I am trying to get the phone back to resembling stock before i send it back for warranty.

Try downloading adbwireless from the market. It will allow you to use adb without a wired connection.

I have Windows 7 64x bit, and sometimes my connections seem dead, and I just uninstall and reinstall the drivers.
ADB wireless seems like your best bet right now
Thanks. Gave that a shot and I can connect to the phone. Now all I need to do is find the att apps.
try a factory reset and see if it recognizes your phone .

Have you tried it on another computer?
my rooted htc hero with the stock sprint rom doesnt recognize that its plugged into my computer. when i go to settings>about phone>battery , it say that its charging through ac. now i cant figure out how to unroot. anyone have any ideas ?
You probably have it set to charge only when plugged into a pc.
Sent from my CDMA Hero. I got some hot Froyo on Hero action here!
You probably somehow set the default to "charge only". Clear your defaults, and when you plug it in, it SHOULD recognize and pull up a menu. If that doesnt work, enable USB debugining and reboot.

I am currently having the same issue. I am running Froyo 2.2 Cmd 6 extreme Blue Oct 4 release. I am unable to do anything but charge my hero when I connect to my computer. I have tried using multiple usb cords including the cable provided by htc, as some post have recomended, and tried connecting to my Windows Xp, Vista and Ubuntu 10.10 system but have found no success. I've tried doing a data wipe in the recovery screen as well as messing with the various setting inside Android, debugging mode etc. I am unable to go back to stock 2.1 because I am unable to connect to my computer and use the official updater. Please help I don't have any idea were to go from here.

i have also tried many new usb cables... sorry i forgot to mention that.
Can you try a different computer? Trying to identify if it's a computer problem or a phone problem.
i dotn really have the option of using another computer... i think it is the computer but i am not sure.
Plug another device into the computer. 1 that is known to work. If that does not work you will need to uninstall your usb drivers and reinstall them with no devices attached.
For more information google hardware manager usb.
If this doesn't solve your issue it would either b a virus or hardware failure. If your phone charges fine I seriously doubt it is your phone that is the problem.
I almost forgot. The android usb drivers have been updated since the last release of windows. I would look into this as well.

Make sure you have compatible and up-to-date USB Drivers. Another thing, make sure you have HTC Sync installed.
Check the permissions on the computer with USB Ports.
The phone might be bad. I had this problem and Sprint replaced the phone
Same problem here... my wife's hero is recognized with same USB cable and same computer ... but mine wont recognize ... it started doing this after I flashed to a sense rom to update prl ... could that have screwed it up?

You need to go to the 'device tree' in device manager this is the default and only view on windows xp. You are looking for usb root port or .... well hold on ill find it. Im assuming vista here?
It doesn't say it in the article but from my experience sometimes it can be selective about which devices it will allow to connect.
Unplug your device now.
Removing the drivers and re-installing them erases all the current configurations. Yes your computer remembers everything you have ever plugged into those ports until this point ↓
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/817900
I hope you remember to google for the latest android usb driver before you plug it back in!
If you didn't just go through the steps again at the microsoft site. Reopen the new drivers From android project Then plug your device in. Keep me posted.
Oh and you cant 'Revert your phone to stock' unless you made a backup of the stock rom before you flashed it. Well you could also have another copy of the same phone lying around... And even then when they send the device to hardware quality labs they're forensic equipment will tell that the locks have been snapped. Your phone might come back with a bill.
↑ Things of this nature are usually against customer service policies but in today's economy nothing would surprise me.
I hope you're not panicking! If you couldn't tell I have run into this problem more than once over the years, so the odds that your phone is jacked up are slim to none £

you can always just download the stock rom from sprint for and update cant u? at this point i might as well insure it then have it get "stolen" just to get a new phone.
Lol. No comment ;D

You can always try the android drivers in my post on how to install adb. Its in the hero dev section. I made that thread because some users were having trouble installing the htc drivers. As usual I'm mobile so I can't link you but you should find it no problem. Hope it helps good luck

Yes you can revert your phone to stock, don't worry. Just download the RUU from Sprint or HTC's website and run it with your phone plugged in. If you ever can get it to recognize it anyway, lol.
I bricked my phone last nite, and was able to fix it with the help of some really great people, Anyway it was stuck on lg logo and I flashed rom and dll in lgnpst and now phone boots up fine. I cannot put my phone in usb mass storage or internet connection, there is no usb option at all that pulls up in tray. Everytime I plug the cable in, it says" you can not switch usb mode while in test mode" What is test mode? does this have to do with the rom? I have tried downloading a usb app from market but it doesnt fix it. please help. How can I load anything on my sd card if I cannot access it

Welcome to test mode! Sucks, and I have yet to find a way out of it. You can Google how to use adb to push files to your sdcard or you can use an adapter and a card reader.

all that sounds nice and dandy but this phones comes with 16gb internal memory and I can't access any of it thru my computer, I can't load music photos or anything onto it. So it is all pretty much useless

If he can't set the phone to "internet connection" then he has no USB Debugging, therefore ADB commands won't work. Right?

Adb is the only thing that works. Since it is test mode debugging is already on.

You can pull the external 16 GB SD card (next to SIM card) & transfer files from your PC with the correct "Micro SD to SD card adapter" & put it in a USB reader. There might even be a micro SD card reader on the market, now. I know it doesn't cure your USB problem, but then you can transfer files back & forth...

Does anyone know if there is any type of fix to this? Only thing I can think of is: before my phone bricked everything worked then when I used lgpnst to fix it I got the issue with test mode. So maybe can I use lgpnst with an original rom, would it fix it?

well that is a complete waste of 16gb, i can't put my phone in usb mode, internet mode or usb storage mode. so all I can virtually use is the sd card if I swap things out of the phone which includes taking battery out all the time, so annoying. I think I will sell this phone on Craigslist and buy another Revolution or another phone. I have only had it for about 3 days and its already in test mode.

I think what the guy was saying worked for him was just using one of the .TOT files. That won't work in this case?
I have officially fixed test mode for the lg revolution!!!!!!!!!
What I did was, I went into LGPNST and I took the VS910 dll and the original VS910ZV4_04.S4_04.P58008.R5.user.tot
found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1120062
and put my phone in download mode (emergency mode) holding power buttone and volume up
and I flashed it using LGPNST
and Voila my phone is back to normal, no more test mode. My phone is perfect working condition with all usb modes and internet connection working, no more test mode.
Also my phone is back to charging normal. I am so happy I fixed this, I was about to sell it and get something else

I know its funny that a noob like me figured this out so fast. Sorry MT that I figured it out first. I am unable to make a new thread due to being under 10 posts. I will let MT steal the credit and let him or someone else post this. This is a very common issue that alot of people get by accident, but anyone is happy to post this as I am just relieved and happy that is has been fixed, I could not find a solution anywhere on google as most people just sent their phones to verizon, but i couldn't due to being on CRICKET service

Actually the exact steps that I took were above, minus posting links to LPGNST and the dll but those are floating around on XDA, all step are exactly like:

honestly there is nothing more to it then that took about 1 minute to set it all up then LGNPST did all the work, very simple, I just don't know why no one else on Google could figure this out or at least post a guide to it if they did, feel free to make a post in the development section, can't wait for mtmichaelson to see this and fix his phone to,
I bought my HTC One about three or four months ago and it was working great no problems with anything, the about two weeks ago I went to add music from my computer running windows 7 onto the phone and it came up with an error of something along the lines that the device was broken or something like that, I thought that it was just my computer because its a piece of junk anyways so I tried to connect it to my friends computer and it did the same thing. The computer(s) wont do anything with the phone, not even bring up mass storage. I have tried to re install htc sync all the htc drivers and still nothing has happened. I was wondering if this has been a known problem with this phone or is it just my phone that seems to be doing it. Aside from this the phone itself is working great and I don't root or anything with the phones that I use. I was also wondering if there was anything that I might be able to do aside from the things that I have already done, and I'm willing to try just about everything.
Thanks!!!!!

Are you plugging it into a USB SS port? I have two of those on my laptop and it acts funky when I plug it into them. Also, reinstall your drivers after deleting them from device manager.
I have a 2.0 port and what I assume to be two normal usb ports. I uninstalled the drivers but I'm not exactly sure where I need to go to get them again, do the download after I install HTC sync manager?

I wouldn't install htc sync manager at all unless you need it. You can search "universal android driver" on xda and find it.
