So I've heard that using Flash Recovery is currently the only way to root a Rogers HTC Dream using post-E911 firmware (perfected SPL) - aside from JTAG. I tried installing ZenThought's latest FlashRec, but I keep getting the error "Flash Recovery could not be installed on this phone."
Besides that, I need some advice on rooting this phone, if it's at all possible.

Ok I bricked two phones so far I need help. So this is the process that I took I rooted my rogers dream using the one click method. So this would allow me to get a new recovery menu and hboot would say 1.33.2005. So I now I can root my device cause I have done it multiple times. I install the recovery image from here http://developer.htc.com/adp.html#s3 that goes fine I reboot and then I install cyanogen 4.2.5 and then when I reboot it seems to get stuck on rogers splash. I don't know it seems to take to long and then when I take the battery out to try to boot to recovery it does not work. Could give me some guidance as to how to install the cyanogen rom after following the instructions of rooting from this page http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=558301. Thanks in advance.
Hi,
I tried rooting a G1 from stock firmware (UK):
Firmware 1.6
Radio 2.22.19.261
Build no. DRC92
After downgrading using DREAIMG.NBH to:
Firmware 1.0
Radio 1.22.12.29
Build no. RC7
Then I had installed Hard SPL & Amon_Ra 1.7.0.
...I didn't notice the radio had been downgraded from 2.22.19.261 to 1.22.12.29 when downgrading and more importantly that the requirement for installing DangerSPL was radio 2.x....
So I have attempted to install DangerSPL with radio 1.22.12.29 and it looks like it has resulted in a brick...?
I cannot enter...
-Recovery (Power+Home)
-Hardboot (Camera+Power)
Or any other combination of keys!
Any combination of these keys simply results in the screen being stuck at G1 T-Mobile screen nor does it connect to the PC via USB...
Can anyone confirm whether this is a real brick or a solution to fix?
That's a real brick buddy!!!!!!!!! Now you need someone with a jtag
sent from my superfroyo dream
Anyone with JTAG willing to recover this bricked G1...?
Any luck yet? Find anyone? Let me know

Un-Brick
Anyone in UK (or anywhere) willing to unbrick G1....?
Happy to donation!
root your phone via Superoneclick method and download CWM's rom manager. Open rom manager and click the "Reboot into recovery option" and see if that works.
If it doesnt, try flashing CWM's newest recovery or alternet recovery from the rom manager, in this case, RA's v1.7.0 and see if that works
Here's the story:
A while back, I rooted my Nexus One without unlocking using the bait and switch method, and had been using various custom ROMs.
Recently, the power button hasn't been working well, so I called HTC to get a swap. Obviously, before sending my phone back, I need to unroot it.
I tried to restore my phone using the method in the XDA guides, but it hung on each step, and it didn't actually do anything. So, I flashed the non-rooted stock ERE27 through ROM Manager (this, I suspect was a huge mistake.)
Now, I have an rooted phone, that fails on any update attempt and so is stuck on 2.1, and worse, Clockwork Recovery is still on there. I've tried to unroot my phone again using both the bait and switch method, and the freenexus method, but both have run into errors. I've also tried installing Universal Androot and clicking Unroot, but it just tells me my phone isn't rooted.
So, I can't root my phone to attempt to flash the recovery, and I can't find a way to remove Clockwork Recovery, but I need to send this phone back to HTC within the next 7 days, or else I'm gonna be out $530.
Any ideas?

Have you tried the PASSIMG.zip method? That will replace everything including recovery.
Alternately if that doesn't work - open up a stock PASSIMG.zip and extract the recovery.img file. Use flash_image from your rooted ERE27 (instructions available elsewhere) to flash stock recovery back to the phone. Now try installing the OTA update or one of the "upgrade anything to FRF85B/FRF91" update.zip files intended for stock recovery. This should (eventually) leave you with an unrooted N1 on stock recovery and Froyo.
Hi out there,
A friend of mine has got a milestone (gsm) and problems with flashing recovery and custom rom.
he says he has got root, but when he tries to flash recovery it says "no root rights" (via root console with su). moreover, his recovery is a .zip and not a .img which i was used to (am a htc hero owner). through not having custom recovery, he cant install custom roms, seems like no root on boot.
anyone can help? as the procedure on htc hero seems to be completely different i cant help him, will give him this link so he can see
thank you,

I am having problems trying to flash a custom recovery on 2.32.651.2
I cant get flash_image command to work with the android sdk or terminal on the phone. busybox is installed
Also can't install rom manager from the market so i can get cw recovery working. Not compatible with the hero
I have searched and read most of the older posts that where having similar problems but they all just where able to solve with either options above.
Is there any other way to get a recovery on this thing?
Thx for the help
Edit.. So i found a put flash_image on per this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=902493
Now when i try and run the command i get
[1] + Stopped (signal) flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
Are you rooted ??? Are you cdma or gsm ?? How did you obtain root ?? What radio/baseband are you ???

I bought this off CL on the cheep after I lost my 3d. It is a Sprint CDMA hero that had the last 2.1 firmware and radio on it. It also appears that it was a refirb unit that came from asurion.
Anyways i was able to root it quick with Htc sync drivers and Superoneclick.
It worked the first time, just it doesn't put a custom recovery on your phone for you like some of the other rooting methods out there for lower firmware versions.
Searching threw the forums and trying many different methods to get the custom recovery installed, i failed. After awhile I was able to find a old rom manager apk that i was able to install and get cw recovery working with no issues.
After that i went on my mary flashing way for s-off, newer recovery found in dastin1015 sig, and the beautiful Zero Hero rom.
