question about 2.2 update - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all, I am running madoco desire, and wondering if I will get the froyo update or will I have to download and install it? I am assuming it will clear my rom and all my apps right. Now if i reinstall the rom will it negate the new update? or just not work? I have used search, and read about 1000 threads. Thanks so much.

Did you know there is a QUESTION & Answer section in the forums?

Get used to the noob posts guys. We will be seeing them all week. I suggest just ignoring the thread. A mod will move it for you.

The update will only come to users of stock 2.1. It will in no way shape or form be compatible with desire rom.

How sad for the community...

What a bunch of @@%@%%@@
OK yes I do know there is a q&a section, I have read and searched in there. Not very clear answers though. If it is such a bother to help someone, then how about not being on this site! I am sure all of you at one time or another were starting out. I read this forum daily, have its app, and keep up to date for the most part. I just wast completely sure of one thing. I support a few of the DEVS on here with contributions when I can, I am just glad it isn't one of you!

What is the problem, this so called community I've heard about is not much of a community is it.
There's no need for it at all.
Can someone please offer some real advice.
Ok, here is a real advice:
Please read the tutorials.
I have, but the one I am reading shows an old JF1.41 rom, when I looked at the other roms it says things like only for 36b phones ect..... It's confused me a little because tho I am amature techy I am also extra cautious and dont want to brick my phone.
Would I be ok using CyanogenMod [v3.9.7] && Palm Pre theme [1.8] ported for instance
I think the reason people are being a bit hostile is because you posted a question in the development section. That may seem OTT but there are some days when the whole first page of the development section is filled up with questions.
Before you flash a cupcake ROM (cyanogen, JF) you will need the new radio. I'm not entirely sure if you can flash that radio on RC7 or whether you will need to install a custom ROM first (like JF's RC9) so if someone could clear that up that would be useful. It can be found here. Copy that to your SD, name it update.zip and flash. Then you can flash a Cyanogen or any other cupcake ROM. That particular ROM you were talking about sounds like it was ported to the HTC Magic/Sapphire. Only flash ROMs from the dream section.

Hi mate, I wouldnt flash 3.9.7 if you only just rooted your phone, go with the stable v3.6.8.1 first, then use Nandroid recovery to create a backup. Then worse case scenario you can always restore that image if needed.
There's a good reason 3.9.7 is marked as experimental, and there is alot to learn before attempting any Hero roms etc.
If you get stuck with anything feel free to shoot me a PM Im always around and happy to help.
Long time lurker first time poster btw
Thanks guys, I will not post in this section again and sorry to those I have upset, would hve been nice to have been simply told.
Thanks for the help.
lol that was hard as nails

Wow that was by far the hardest groaned I have ever seen in my few months on xda!
People are just tired of everybody posting in devolpment when there is a q and a section, and when there are 20 to 30 new threads that have already been discussed, the devolpers get annoyed. Go with the stable version of cyanogen's rom, flash the new radio image and get yourself the hard spl, not the special, if you see warnings, run very far away. Install the s a lifesaver
ahem...
I wasn't hostile before, attempting to be civil now.
You posted two questions in the development forum. The first was regarding root. There are numerous tutorials available on this forum and even more via a simple google search. I know this because I read them, learned the process inside and out and successfully rooted my phone within the first hour of owning it. So yeah, I made a joke about a hard working mod having to move your thread... no personal attack so whatever.
Your second question was an open ended request for what are basically opinions. There are a number of great custom roms being developed here on XDA and all of them are unique in their own way. Roms like HERO and Cyan's experimental rom are definitely not for newcomers and the threads posted by their developers clearly state the risks involved in attempting to run them. 15 minutes in the dev forum and you could have made an educated decision on your own. One post in Q&A and you would have gotten much friendlier responses but in the end, you'd still have to choose your own adventure.
Let me make one thing clear...
I'm not a dev. I'm an end user who tries to contribute something useful to this forum and learns a whole bunch in the process. I've offered help to many people via PM and replies in threads (as long as the discussion is on-topic) but over time I've come to the realization that simply handing out information instead of forcing you to find it on your own actually does a disservice to not only the forum, but YOU as a user. So hate on us all you want. I think you'll find that following forum rules in the future will make your experience here a happier one, and snarky comments like yours are better left un-submitted.
To answer your question: I started with JF's 1.5 rom and think it was a great way to gain exposure to the world of custom roms and root. A lot has changed since then and things have actually become a lot easier since cyanogen released his recovery image w/ nandroid and tools like switchrom came out. Its now very easy to hop between roms and there are fewer chances you'll screw something up in the process. Personally, I've been sticking with Cyanogen's roms since 3.4.6, and though there have been some bumps in the road I've had very few issues and am currently working with his 3.9 experimental builds.
Hope you get where I'm coming from, good luck to you in the future.

Did i search, came up with Nothing, not sure if the is a VB forum, the dam search is near useless!
Not sure on the sections the famous XDA is so busy
Sorry for posting

[Q] Is there a list of roms that are updateable thru ROM MGR clockwork?

Im sorry but I Didnt see a thread dedicated to this feature. I apologize in advance if this has been covered elsewhere.
Y!S
All roms are flashed via CWM unless they say to do it differently in their thread. CM7 is about the only one that's not done this way.
Nobody gives install instructions anymore since it should be common knowledge if you did your research.
Also, this is NOT a development question. We have a Q&A section for these types of questions.
all custom roms come with CWM built into the kernel.
once you have a custom rom you DONT USE rom manager anymore.
also this is the DEVELOPMENT section.
DO NOT POST QUESTIONS HERE!!!
questions go in Q&A

you guys are misunderstanding his question, ROM manager is capable of sending out OTA's for individual ROM's if the ROM creator implements this feature. as far as I know, there are yet to be any ROM's that use this in the Captivate section, though please tell me if I'm wrong. CM7 will use this feature once it's capable of using ROM manager through a properly functioning param.ko
as for you two, no need to be so aggressive/rude. you didn't answer his question properly and were a bit extreme in your judgment toward him. but as for you OP, they are correct in that this isn't truly related to development and is more suited to "General" or "Q&A" from now on.
my point was nobody uses rom manager after stock anymore.
if someone cant properly post, they wont get a full complete answer

Hey TRusselo you have gone beyond making it known that I posted in the wrong section but no matter how I look at your answers you still come across as a big fat jerk. There isnt any need whatsoever for you to post that.. and then to come back and repeat yourself with another entry saying the SAME thing and MAINTAINING the attitude.. you got my attention.
Kaik541 did answer my question. I was wondering if any devs have used this feature in rom manager. For over the air updates.
As to the reason why I posted in the DEVs section was because i thought that it was a development question. ROMS updated over the air thru ROM MANAGER is implemented by DEVELOPERS. It stands to reason why i have not seen any notes in any DEVELOPERS release and that is apparently no DEVELOPERS are using this feature. I hope that I made it understood as to WHY I posted in the dev section. I am now more familiar with the rules so I do beg your pardon for posting in the wrong place.
Nightly builds that can be updated over the air seems like it would really be something that a DEV would utilize with all the tweeks contently done to these roms. I for one look forward to having such a useful tool.

Nightly builds aren't considered updates. They are made so the flash happy people have something else to play with and test for the devs. They aren't meant for everyone to use as DD's. Utilizing this feature for nightlie's would end up with TONS of questions from newbs that don't know how to fix what they just did.
This has been brought up a few times and to be honest with all the possible issues that could come across from OTA updates like flashing a bad file cause you lost connection for a split sec and didn't notice, I wouldn't use it. The first att OTA update proved this. Thousands of bricks, then it was released by Kris update. Alot less bricks.

Get the phone and slowly you will get familiar to it.
I hope ur talking about the rooted apps here, that would be no problem once u get easy with the handset.
Piracy is not a good thing..developers put in a lot of time and effort in their work, respect it and pay for it.
Rooting n modding is not for Cr****. Rooting is to just get extra privilege on note, for making it more customise your device.
and note, such things(Cra**/Piracy) are banned over XDA
Ok, thanks guys.. thats what i mean, the rooted apps.. But do you guys suggest to me that I should have my phone rooted, once i got my phone? Or is it just ok to leave it as is? Thanks!

The phone's great as is. If you're a newb, like I was when I bought my Note (and probably still am), I'd recommend sticking with stock for a bit until you familiarize yourself with everything your phone can do.
I bought a Note when it released in the beginning of December and I still haven't rooted my phone. Although I'm a little conservative that way.
One thread you might really want to read is the Tips and Tricks thread.
Ok, thanks for the reply again! I guess I'll just have to get one first, explore it, read the forums. Then see what happens then. How about the ROMS?

How many time this question is asked and how many times we have to answer ?
There is no best rom. You have to try it yourself. We are not here to do your work.
Search and then ask.
Look in the Qand A forum . You will see what mistake you have done.
This question is asked many times.

You have to try all the ROMs to find out which suits you the most. And don't say kernal, it's kernel!
Please use the search or look at the linked threads instead of creating a new one.
