Hi everyone,
I got a HTC Tytn 2 and i have a problem with it.
When i boot the phone it starts up and goes into windows like every windows mobile phone.
But when i press the standby button my screen wont go out of standby.
Only when i reset the phone it will work again.
Anyone got idea's ?
Oke, since no one responded.
Is there any way how i can make the Power Button replaced with the Speed Dial Button.
Because i think my power button is broke.

Have you at least tried backing up your data and doing a hard reset first ?
Yes, and i have also tried to put on a new rom and even updated the radio.
Iam a little bit out of idea's...
here are some more ideas:
1. how to test the power button: you say pressing the power button does not wake up the device once it goes to sleep. conversely, does pressing the power button put the device to sleep while the screen is on? if the power button is unable to make the device go off->on as well as on->off, then the power button is likely broken. if pressing the button achieves on->off, then the power button is probably ok and some software issue becomes more likely.
2. how to enable wake on pressing ANY hardware button: look for an option in Settings. i can't tell you the exact option because the ROM i am using does not have a link for this option, but this option does exist 100% in stock ROM and in lots of other ROMs. it contains settings like "Lock all buttons except power button" and "Keep all buttons unlocked" or something similar. by using the second option, pressing ANY hardware button while the screen is off will wake up the device.
3. you can use AE button plus to perform even more advanced button (re)mappings.
4. just to be sure that your device is really working correct, does the screen wake up when you call the phone or when you receive a text message? if it does not wake up even then, then search for "sleep of death".
Thanks for the response.
I think its a Service of Death problem.
Because when i try calling/smsing it, it wont go on
The buttons do work then...hopefully there's a fix for this problem...
Oke, i tried switching to 2G or 3G only but that didn't fix my Standby of Death.
I also bought a new sim card of vodafone so i wont get a No Sim error.
But what can i do now about it...it hangs like every 5 min...
Okay, after a will testing, the phone hangs every time its almost like when iam on the road with my tytn 2 and placing it upside down, it hangs.
But when iam putting it in the leather holder it doesn't hang.
Any had the same problems ?

I can't see any similar problems on the forum, so can anyone help?
Yesterday my Kaiser's power button stopped working. In the middle of the day, not doing anything with it, installing anything or changing any settings. I took it out of my pocket and the screen was on with the power off dialog box showing (I normally keep it on standby in my pocket) The power button wouldn't put it into standby, and holding it wouldn't power it down. Intermittently the power off dialog appears on screen, if I click yes the device restarts (doesn't stay off). Everything else seems to work normally still. Soft resetting works normally. All the other buttons seem to work ok. I've tried a hard reset, but that made no difference.
Anyone else have anything like this?
no but i think ur power button seems to be stuck.. take it to ur local att store and see if they can help u out or try pressing and see it becomes unstuck.

I'm having the exact same problem right now. The power button definitely seems to be stuck. Can't figure out how to unstick it
About a week ago I had a similar problem.
The power button and the photo button stopped working. I couldn't turn the the device off or set it to standby.
Had to soft reset and after that it was ok again.

Well that didnt work! Any other solution?
Is it possible to unmap the power button and map that question to another button???
Hi, I cleaned the screen of my HTC Diamond with a bit of alcohol and a pice of tissue and it seems that the alcohol got inside of the Power button. Now, every time I try to turn the screen on by touching the power button, it turns the screen on but it dispays a message that says: "Warning: Power will be turned off and you may lose data if you have not saved them. Do you want to continue?"
If I click YES, it reboots the phone, If I click NO, then its ok. That is fine, but the problem is when I want to turn the phone off. It's impossible. It will keep trying to reboot.
Does anybody know what can I do? I am really worried.
One solution could be to make some other button from the phone to act as the power button (like the Home button that is rarely used). How can I do that?
Please help!!!!
Thank you
Hi,
I have the same problem.
Did you already find an answer ?
No, I didnt find the solution. I tried to fix the hardware but didnt succeed. So, I created a dummy file to emulate the poweroffwarning.exe that pops up when you long press the power button.
Solution
Hello, I have one AT&T TITL 8925 that upgraded to Windows Mobile 6.5
After the new software was loaded I saw same behavior on my phone.
When the phone is ON and I pressed the power button sometimes it do not respond, and others I received the warning message "power will be turned off and you may lose data if you have not saved them..." My first tought was that it is because the processor is slow to this new software release, or maybe my phone is damaged. I was working perfectly with previous (light version) release so my final guess is that this sw requires more uses of the processos.
Anyways what I have been doing is before turing it off I press the red button or hang up button, and after this if I press the power button it works fine (No more warnings). I have some theories but I will keep doing the same
Hope this partial solution helps you as it does for me.
Regards
Jerry
this is not working for me :| the problem is i can't use my power button not even to open my display when it goes to sleep :|:| i don't know what to do guys please help me
You can use the Stylus to awake the phone, instead of using the power button. You can also use TouchLockPro, to suspend the device, so you do not need the power button for that too.
Also you can set the phone to awake on pressing any key (Windows Mobile Setting), but be sure to have a good locking tool, which makes sure you do not have bogus calls and it goes to sleep again fast enough, otherwise it will drain battery.
I have the same problem.
Anyone solved this one?
I have the same issue and this is not a hardware problem. Strange since even updates/changes of the rom do not correct the issue. Did anybody find a solution for this...?
Well.. ive had this problem just ones.. I was walking downtown with my diamond in the frontpocket of my jeans (face down), after about 3min. of walk, it started to rain (big drops), and my clothes got completely wet, i turned around emidietly, to walk back to home. When i got home after 3 more min. i layed the phone on the table, and then i could hear there were somethibg wrong.. The "turn off" sound came, and the notification kept on coming up, even though i pressed No, as if i were just holding the power button down.. Then i began to press the power button continuesly for about a 100 times, and to my surprise then it stopped and have functioned perfectly for about 2 month now.. Something tells me theres some serius promlem with the smallest kind of moisture near the power button on this phone..
Yes this is hardware related.
If you take a look at the inside of the powerbutton, there are 2 points making contact when you press the button.
If you press it, the software will recognize this and the screen will turn off.
If you press it long enough you'll get the "Do you want to turn off your device" message.
But, if water gets underneath the button, the 2 points may be making contact, because water/alcohol conducts.
In this way you'll get that message.
The button is very weak. Due to this, it may not properly work if you have used it for a long time.
I think that could also be a reason why you constantly get that message.

Hi! on one of my diamond, the power button off from the board. So the black little board with the button itself is not part of the complete circuit anymore... if someone know the hw testpoint for that it would great please.... i see a few TP around, but if i just start sorting them i just going to kill it...I use to flash phones with TP so is not new for me , but i find nothing for diamond.
I have a similar issue. Mine seems like it is almost stuck on, so it wakes its self up all the time, meaning a full charge lasts an hour or two. Then when it runs out of battery it tries to switch itself back on, so goes through a continuous cycle of vibrating and beeping until the battery is removed. The gf finds it very annoying at 3am lol.
Don't recall mine getting wet, but it's possible it could have got damp at some point, but it's been doing this now for about 3 weeks.
Tried a hard reset with no luck.

I think I should send it to HTC, and ask them to do it. Or go to a repair centre. But I should not try it myself, because it can be dangerous for the diamond.
Also try searching on ebay, there might be the parts you could use.
Good luck!

My Sony X1 have some strange problems with the power button. When it goes into sleep mode, I can not wake it up with the power button, all I can do is to soft reset. Sometimes it does not go into sleep mode either , it just "wake up" all the time. I don't know what's wrong with it, tried Hard reset but no use .
ANyone had this problems before?
@
The only way to solve this is to leave the phone near your laptop heat vent ( fan) . hot air from it might help you to get the power button up and running. But if that to doesn't work then i'm afraid thats bad.
Current sol :
1. download SU2U ( search threads )
2. go to the settings and make the " lock when stylus inserted" option ON
3. Change the screen turn off time to 5 secs..
So , to unlock , remove stylus , to lock -> insert it back ( its turns off the back light within 5 sec )
Less annoying

I have done a search, and can't find anyone else with this problem. I am using Dutty's Diamond v1. If the backlight goes off, or if you hit the power button, the call gets put on hold. You have to hit the power button to activate the call again. I used to be able tp push the power button, and the backlight would go off. Now, if I hit the power button (on a call), the backlight switches off for a second, then comes back on with the call on hold.
I have tried hard resetting the device and even tried another rom. The problems persists. Any ideas?

Just curious if youve tried another rom as well as another radio.....
Funny you should ask.LOL. I thought it could have been the reason, so I loaded "L26KDTLB6" with radio 1.71.09.01. I even tried changing the spl, but it still does this.

okay so when my n1 is in sleep, it takes like 3 tries to wake it up. The first time I press the unlock button the unlock screen comes and then goes back to sleep instantly. The second time the lights for the back menu home and search light up and that's it. the third time it works. I'm on froyo. anyone else with this problem?
I have a similar issue.
Sometimes just the capacitive buttons light up and not the screen. I have to make 2 or 3 tries to get it to turn on. Its rare, but its there. It only happened on 2.2.
ok good, me too!
was just looking for this topic.
mine doesnt always turn anything on at all. sometimes the light go on, others nothing. Also trying to turn off the phone is hard as it sleeps straight away with out opening up the power menu.
I have a stock N1, which recently updated to Froyo, with the same problem.
any ideas would be great!

Also happens on CM 5.0.7.1.
i think it may be a hardware button issue.
I have tried turning mine off (had to pull the battery out) and then to turn it on.
It should turn on readily as it has nothing to do with the OS at that point.
any ideas?
No HW button issue described. HW button works - if it didn't, lights wouldn't go on. It's a wrong reaction on the button, at least that's what OP describes (and me too).
Your N1's power button is dying, it's a known HARDWARE issue. I experienced all of that what you may think a software bug, nut dear friends, prepare to meet HTC or Google for warranty. My N1's power button is dead, I couldn't swap for a new one because I bought it in my country where no official distributor for N1 yet. Sad!
ps: you may try to search for "N1 power button" and see there are more and more reports about this problem.
I've read more than one or two threads on power button issues, and I know what I'm talking about. My power button DOES power up the phone when the battery is taken off the first shot, it DOES wake the phone from standby, it DOES register long presses - there was even one time when a second press was long, and suddenly the screen woke up with power menu, while the first press left it dark with touch button light going on.
Doesn't look even a bit like HW to me. HW would leave the phone dead, non-responsive to touches, or create a loose touch which would translate into several touches - none of those would EVER turn into a phone being on with screen off, and suddenly snapping back to screen on when the SCREEN is touched several times.
Could be your cpu was too busy to accept any inputs.
I have a thread about it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=692874
Take your time! As for me, I'm using my N1 for 3 months now for the power button to completely dead with everyday use (I didn't use any app to trackball-wake).
As I said, all the things you are yelling I have been through. And I, too, thought it was software problem.
I tried both MCR and Cya with no hope.
Good luck!
ps: One of my friend just told me about his N1's power button issue right after hearing me telling about mine.
This sucks
anyone know where i can buy a new button??
Corrupt SD Card
I had the same issue. I'd press the power button, the bottom four buttons would light up but no screen wake. Only way to get out of it was to pull the battery. It would happen maybe 30-40% of the time. (Nexus One Froyo FRF72)
I think it was due to a corrupt MicroSD card. I recently installed a 32gb card and put some music on it using songbird and possibly didn't safely remove. That's when I started getting issues. Removed the SD card completely and it worked fine. Changed back to the old card and no issues. Then formatted the 32gb and tried again, worked fine. Then I tried to transfer more music, there was an error and I got the same problem. (Cheap ebay card from Hong Kong, that'll teach me).
Anyway, I'd be interested to know if that solved anyone else's problem, because all I see on forums are that it's a faulty power button, but that didn't seem to be the case in my situation.
Cheers,
Dylan
-Witty esoteric statement about science/technology.
Mine is doing kinda the same weird thing but a little different.
When I push the power button the screen comes on but is unresponsive to touch. If I press the power button again the screen dims and then turns off, the home keys light up and then the trackball glows white. The phone then does not respond to the power button for around 10 secs and repeats this behavior 4 or 5 times until it actually starts working correctly and I can swipe my finger to get to the home screen.
It usually does this after being inactive for a period of time, like after sitting overnight.

the only difference is my power will continue to turn the back light on and off no matter if the screen has already timed out or not

Read again carefully. Are you sure your hardware problem was identical to what the OP described? I've noticed a lot of people with obvious hardware problems (i.e., the power button is completely unresponsive) posting on threads like this when they actually have a different problem. It's very confusing.

PS: Are you guys getting the unresponsive unlock slider like britoso describes?
I had this problem when I first flashed CM6 yesterday. Even after wiping and reflashing it was the same. Only way to get out of the black screen was to do a soft reset, power + vol down + trackball. I finally found out that my SD card malfunctioned and was corrupt. I tried reformatting the sd card in an microsd card reader but windows said it could not be reformatted. I finally switched back to another microsd card that was working, wipe and reflashed cm6 and the problem went away. Try backing up all the data on your microsd onto your computer then reformat it and wipe then reflash to see if it works
Edit: ughhhh it just happened again, but not as bad as before, turns back on after second try... maybe i didnt press the trackball hard enough
So this morning I picked up my Note 4, used it normally to check emails, etc, went to turn off/lock screen and it wouldn't respond at all. I held down the power button and then it brings up the power menu, I restarted a few times and still nothing. Is my power button defective or could some setting have automatically changed the settings?
Go to *#0*# and select Sub-Key. Press every physical button on the Note 4 one by one (Volume Up, Volume Down, Home Button, Power Button On, Power Button Off). If the end result is PASS, then you're Power button is fine. Can also be a sticky / tacky power button, or something you modded in the settings.

Just did the test, every button turned a different color, volume up (gray) volume down (green), menu (brown), home (blue) back (purple) , power (red, is this a fail?) but I didnt get any PASS. Is the power button supposed to have 2 colors, one for on and one for off? I tried holding down the power button but that brings up the power menu.
Also noticed that the screen will not dim or turn off automatically.
Update: I ended up doing a reinstall of the stock fw through Odin and it fixed it. I wonder what caused it and where those settings/issue where stored? I had tried doing a reset from within settings, but as I understand, that doesn't clear ALL the data.
I know how it feels when the diagnostic doesn't yield a pass. Glad to hear that reflashing the stock firmware resolved it though. Could have been something deep in the firmware causing this. Keep us updated if it persists again. The power button has been a culprit of problems in the past for many as well in previous Note devices. The final result should have displayed "PASS" on the display, perhaps you didn't complete the task, that's okay. Sometimes simply clearing the cache instead of factory reset could have resolved the problem as well. Samsung is notorious time to time.

I have a Note 4 too and since a few days I have been noticing this issue. The power button doesn't wake the screen up. I have to fiddle around the button a little bit, press it a bit harder sometimes and then it works.
Also noticed that when this happens, I unlock the phone using the Home button and when I try to use the power button then nothing happens. Keeping the power button pressed doesn't give me the reboot/boot options either until I fiddle with it.
The strange this is, one it starts working, i can use it again and again until I leave the phone aside until sometime and then the power button does nothing until i repeat fiddling it.

All buttons work except the power button but again if I press hard and try to nudge the button a little bit, I saw the colour change to RED. No PASS either.
Do you have any xposed modules installed? I had this happen with either gravitybox or wanam when I tried to tinker with the power menus. *3.
No. Everything is stock and not rooted either.
In my case, a complete wipe to factory fixed the issue for me and never had the issue since then, but it kind of sounds like you may have a hardware issue.
that's what I'm thinking too hw issue. But once it starts to work it works perfectly even pressing the button lightly. If the phone's been idle for a while that's when it starts. But anyway, I'll do the basics, factory reset and then bring it over to the carrier shop. Hate to send it away as its not that long ago i got the phone.
Thanks for all the help/comments.
I just started having the same problem myself. I think I'm going good to buy the right now. For the power button and have it installed.

No. But I've been using the phone less as in on holidays and noticed it hadn't been happening much. If issue still persists I'll bring the phone back to the carrier for a repair/replacement as it's still under warranty.
For the first few days power button worked occasionally now it has stopped working completely.

I agree with the temperature because when I was in holidays the issue didn't happen and Iwas in a hot country with 35 deg C. Weird, so was my Note 4 built for Middle East?!?
My power button has started working 100% normal from falling the hw test earlier.

I did a full factory reset and it appeared to work but after restoring all my apps and using it for a couple of days it started again. Brought it to the carrier to get it fixed as is still under warranty. They said it was a faulty "electrical component" which they replaced. Got the phone back and I restored all the apps. I have the problem again. I don't trust the carrier to have fixed the issue as it was intermitten in the first place. The button works continuously once it's stays working until I leave it aside for a while. I'll have to bring it back again and wait for a week!
I'll keep you posted.
