waking up with the tracking ball ? - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

in the cyanogen mod 5.0.6 there was an update that enabled the option to wake the phone and unlock the screen with the tracking ball
does anyone know about an update for FroYO ?

I'm going to quote my friend from an earlier post. Hopefully this helps you out.

Zero complaints here. It's solid and I am getting good battery life. If you want trackball wake, you can add the Market app "No lock". The display will sleep but will wake on any hardware button push - vol up/down/trackball. No unlock required.

Thank you for your help
but this is not what i'm looking for. it's not the same idea.
you should be able to keep the phone locked and allow the tracking ball to wake the screen and only then another press will unlock the phone (or not if you don't want it to - you can disable unlocking)

Sorry about that. I hope you find what your looking for.

there is app called lockbot pro. it is in market even trial version. i use it now but it is not great. it doesn't work on 100%. it should show you unlock option but not work well.
hope soon someone come with app for trackball wake up . very need it for n1.

There is one. Cyn roms have it. Just no Froyo yet.

I'm using Screen Suite Lock Screen until there's a mod for Froyo to wake up the phone with the trackball on the stock lock screen.
With this you can wake up the phone with the volume keys as well, which is not ultimate, but you still have to slide the locker to unlock your phone.

it doesn't lock screen almost at all. 90% of time it just screen goes black and tracking ball wake it up but it doesn't lock . so basically it works like no lock screen app

I believe the Froyo source has to be released for this to be done, which it currently isn't. Until then, lock screen replacements have to be utilized as an alternative.

Problem with PocketShield

Hi,
does anybody here use PocketShield?
I experience a strange problem - time to time when I unlock my phone the whole top bar disappears. The Start button, the Close button...everything.
I can't do anything with the phone - the only solution seems to be to navigate to the programs tab (via TF3D), select All programs and run the Lock - this locks the phone again and when I unlock it then suddenly my top bar is back. It seems to be completely random.
I know that there is a forum on the developers site but I was wondering if any of the bright minds here could help me ;-)
I am running the 2.0.6.2 free version.
I will try to post it to the official forum as well.
Cheers.

Mine locks up when Gyrator2 tries to rotate the screen on incoming calls. Really annoying. I want to be able to rotate my screen in most programs, but it always seems to screw up my incoming calls and creates more lag...I'm gonna try to go back to sensorlock instead of pocketshield...
I will try to post it to the official forum as well.

I had to same problem. I had Gyrator2 running which rotated the screen and screwed up Pocketshield screen.
I put an Event in Gyrator2 to disable rotation when in PShield screen.
The Event should be the same as Manila's except application/window title is "PShield"
That fix the problem.
i get odd issues as well
I agree, I get odd issues as well. I get the occassional hang, crash, missing bar etc. I uninstall pocketshield and I don't get issues. I'm using NATF 2.3 rom. I paid for it and it worked ok for a while until I noticed these intermittent problems...

I created a rule in Gyrator almost immediately after installing PS - I didn't want it to rotate the PS screen.
I left it up to Gyrator to get the window name and now my rule is set for the window #NETCF_AGL_BASE_.
But my problem is not in rotating, my problem is in unlocking (at least I think so). Anyway, will try to change the window name to PShield and see if it makes any difference.
EDIT
Nope it didn't. The top bar disappeared again during the first seconds of my testing :-(

Thank you my friend for letting me know. If this is indeed fixed I don't mind paying the $13. Will check it right now.
New version available today - but it's not working correctly. after I use the slide bars one time to ignore a call, every call after that is missing the slide bar (answer and ignore soft buttons are there though) and when caller hangs up before I take any action PS just sits there, like it's stuck. Sounds like the same problems you describe earlier.
Im using PocketShield, but I was wondering - the phone always locks after I insert the stylus (I have Touch HD), after a while PocketShield kicks in and after that if I want to unlock the device, I first have to unlock the "normal" lock and then the PocketShield. Really annying.
Is there a way to disable the lock after stylus insertion?

actually i just experience this an hour ago.. also every time I slide the keyboard to unlock my Fuze the screen freezes on the landscape mode. all keys on the keyboard besides the windows key. I hope they fix these bugs right away..
I have the same problem with the top bar disappearing. I'm not running Gyrator or anything like that. I'll try a new version when the bugs mentioned have been ironed out. It is a great product though. I do like it.
Are any of these being posted in the PocketSheild forum? They need to know the bugs.

yes many people posted on the pocketshield forums with same issues...
i dont know if anyone else is having this issue... but
i seems that when slide to answer is activated PSPP some calls get answered automatically... and it takes me to the "talking" screen immediately.
any help on this issue would be super!
I'm having other issues with PocketShield. I didn't have this same problem with version 2.0.6.3, but with version 2.1 I started to have problems with my alarm notification. When the alarm goes off, it just quickly vibrates once and just stops if it's in a locked state. Also, I noticed a heavy battery drain issue--the battery charge would drop about 10% each hour. Once I uninstalled it, the problems with the alarm and battery drain stopped.
Even with the new version (2.1.0.1) I still have problems answering phone calls. I'll slide to answer and the phone just keeps ringing. I hit the "Send" key and nothing happens. I hit the "Answer" soft key and still nothing....
Anyone else still see these problems?
I have a different issue, when phone is not locked and I have an incoming phone call, pocket shield kicks in and shows me "lock screen" where I have to slide to unlock the device and only then I get the standard "Incoming call" screen...
v2.1.0.1
Major Problems
Well I was gonna pay for it but their payment server seems to be phishing site. Also it crashed SQB and when I uninstalled it, the program removed my outlook email account. Sorry but looks like malicious program so going back to an old sensor lock. I did like the software interface but Paypal confirmed me, so I shouldn't need to give you my personal information to pay for the software. No shipping means I am not giving you my phone number and address, etc. Sorry too many questionable things going on for a screen lock... rule is KISS and since this programmer isn't doing that then dump it off my device is my rule.

Built in lock from WM locks while in a call

Hello to all of you!
Happy new year first of all!
Since a few days i'm using the Built in lock from WM and the Phone Canvas posted here on the Diamond Thread. Previously I've used TouchLockPro, but somehow it didn't work properly for me...
Right now I have a problem with it, I've configured with Advanced Config Tool form Schaps a timeout to lock my device automatically so when I don't touch my device 30 sec or press the power button, It will lock...
But....also in a call or something, which is very annoying because to end the call I have to unlock first AND my phoneskin is gone as well.....
So summarised:
Does anybody know how to automatically lock my phone like it should do, except while in a call??
Thanks in advance!
Kind regards
Jeroen
p.s. mods, if this item has already been discussed, can you please erase this Thread then??

I dont use the built in lock from windows anymore (i used to have your problem). Instead i now use S2U2 (Scroll 2 Unlock) and this doesnt lock during a call. One of the best apps i have on the phone - and its freeware!

I'd rather stick to the standard lock app from WM, because S2U2 is quite big app to load into memory and for me it drains my battery quicker...(at least, that's my opinion)
Thanks anyway...I hope somebody else knows how to solve this.....

Hi Dave!
Well the problem is actually caused by ACT 3.2 from Schaps I think.....I've configured the keylock from Windows Mobile to lock itself automatically after a period of inactivity OR when I press the powerbutton to suspend the the device, and after that my phone is locked! But even WITHIN a call, my device will become locked with the specified timeout and will make my phoneskin dissapear and let it go back to the homescreen!
If I want to hang up then, I have to UNLOCK my device and then TAP on the phone icon which appears next to my Signal strength Icon....THAN the phoneskin will reappear and THEN I can hang up the call.....
Hope you'll know by now what I mean...
It's driving me crazy, because I really fancy the automatic lock........
Thanxx anyway
Jeroen
in the advanced config thing or diamond tweak theres an option for lock with "light sensor while in call" or something like that. disable it. and ur set. its annoying as hell, i accidentally played with that feature and it annoyed the crap outta me until i finally found what it was.
in diamond tweak, it should be in the first section of the thing, u dont need to even scroll. i forgot about advanced config cause i dont use it.
edit: option is called "light sensor" but the description talks about it for use during phone calls.

Hi Jeroen,
The problem is not caused by Schaps ACT because that just enables and disables WM features by changing the normal registry entries used by WM.
The problem is some combination of your ROM and your dialer skin not playing nicely with the auto-lock feature. Try removing the dialer skin to see if that helps. If it does help then there may be another, similar phone skin you can use instead.
Ok, I've done a bit more investigation into this issue. I don't use auto-lock normally so I've tried it out. I can confirm it locks during my calls too.
You have a least a couple of options -
1) Don't use auto-lock. You could lock the phone with the left soft key like I do.
2) Don't switch off the screen during a call. There are two settings in Schaps ACT to prevent the screen shutting of automatically and this version of the phone skin has the in-call locking curtain:

Hi Davey101
Thanks for your help in advance! I really appreciate it
I do use the Nosleep!.cab file to prevent my screen from going off during a call, so that would not be the cause....I think I just have to turn off the phoneskin, OR do it manually
Off course...I rather prefer to leave the auto-lock function active, but if it's not gonna work, I have to face it
Cheers mate!

How to stop Diamond from turning on by itself when there is a incoming Text message?

I just want the "ding dong", but let the diamond stay in stand by mode.
Only reason is when the phone is turned on, that the touch screen will do things with its own mind when it is in the pocket!
The latest one is 15 minutes long distance call to my home!
Mmmm...
Yes, you're quite right... this has always been a pain in the ass with WM devices. The new lock-screen on 6.5 has fixed this issue, but unfortunately for 6.1 we have to rely on third-party software to fix Microsofts' oversights!
Try S2U2, which is free, or Pocket Shield, which costs a few dollars, but is well worth it.
I don't know of any tweaks which will actually leave your device in stand-by, but these third-party solutions work well

Finally a trackball wake up for Froyo 2.2

All you guys coming from an iphone or blackberry can finally get the phone woke up by clicking the trackball. No more fumbling around with a case on the N1 trying to look for the wake up button. Go to the Market and look for Widgetlocker. It costs a a dollar and well worth the convenience. There's a ton of features and from testing doesn't seem to impact battery usage. Small footprint in memory and the only app I could find that did what I needed: Wakeup the phone when clicking on the trackball

what is this a Widgetlocker hustle???
Guys, come on. We all can't read every single forum post or download every single app in the market. Not everybody is running a custom rom. I had a hard time looking for this type of program and nobody bothered to post a solution only a stupid comment. Forums are for helping people not insulting them. If this helps some people then it was worth the post.
If you had asked here, we would have hooked you up straight away... You must take it as a bit of fun. To us it looks funny because trackball wake has been around for ages. We didn't mean no harm, just a little fun...
Come to any of the forums here with questions and we are more than happy to help you out, but to start a thread about how this is a 2.2 thing is funny to us. As we have been using track wake since 2.1.
If you have anymore questions, jump on to a ROM post in the dev section, and ask away
Good luck fella,

Thanks, dude. I'm not rooted and have no desire to root, so this is useful information. When you press the track ball, does it take you to the lock screen or does pressing also unlock the phone. I would frankly prefer it be the former like on the iphone.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't No Lock completely unlock the phone when you press the trackball, volume buttons, etc.? I would prefer that pressing take you to the lock screen.
On widgetlocker it takes you to the lock screen, upon clicking the trackball. No lock which I've also tried skips the lock screen. Like I said earlier, I'm rooted but not running a custom rom (which has the trackball wakeup built in) which is why this app does the job exactly as described.

agree 100%
so there IS a trackball wake avail for non-rooted 2.2 users.
Is the no lock (free) working for froyo 2.2?
it's possible to root your phone, without unlocking the bootloader. i did it for a while, then decided to go ahead and unlock. (shrug) i bought it, it's mine. ;-)
soooooo, on to kangorama (cyanogen bits with lots of wonderfulness from other devs) and it has a 'cyanogen settings' that allows to unlock (as in, wake) the phone compeltely with the trackball. then go on with trackball notification colors, dark title bar, hide title bar, etc and you've got a really nice phone.
(shug again) i like it purdy alright.
some of us don't want to root the phone though, hearing of other issues (and possible future issues) in regard to the choice to root.
froyo 2.2 is just fine for my purposes.

Turn OFF the phone using the trackball
What about an app which also turns off the phone via the trackball?
(due to power button dysfunction)

I guess turning it off via the trackball could cause some confusion, i.e some of us use the trackball to select stuff instead of tapping.
Anyway one alternate option is to use 'screenoff'. It only cost a buck on the market. I bought it cos HTC is being anal in my country to those with unlocked bootloaders.
More info on it here
http://android.konreu.com/applications/screen-off/
If you already got WidgetLocker for your Trackball wakeup "needs" you could always launch it and have it set to a low timeout period, say 15s. Then you'd launch it and it'd then turn off in 15s. I think it'll go as low as 10.

Hi people, I got my phone today, and as you do, you set it up how you like it, I set it to keep the home, back and settings keys to light all the time, and it did. I did a OTA up software update, and now, even though ive put it to keep keys lit at all time, it still goes off after a few seconds?any one else had this problem?

Got my phone today with 10d on it. Almost immediately got an update to 10f and exactly the same - the front key lights always turn off after what I believe to be 1.5 seconds, no matter how I set it
Hm...same here. Lights turn off after 2-3 sec.

Going to raise this with LG Tech Support once their e-mail contact page is back up and running
lol >> it is fun to say that the light for front keys turn off after 1.5 or 2 seconds
You can make it long from the setting and HERE THE PROCEDURE ..
PLEASE GO TO ( Settings > Power saver > Front key light ) there is Gear button beside it >> press it and change the period of time ..
Don't forget to press on Thanks button if I help you Guys

Not exactly, no. That setting gives you the option of '1.5 seconds' or 'Always off' and only applies to how the lights work during Power-Save mode, not normally.
Nice try to make us look stupid though :banghead:

Yes , you're right with that the option for the light of front keys is 1.5 or off

I found the solution for that now
Please GO TO ( Settings > Display > Front Key Light ) >> there is option is that " Always On "
Please try that and replay .. I am waiting

I'm not sure if you are intentionally trolling or just stupid.
It is quite clearly stated that setting to 'Always On' makes no difference at all.
Do you have v10f on your phone? Do you even have this type of phone?
Calling all owners. Is there anyone out there?
OK, so I have raised this with LG Tech Support and they are telling me that it is an "Isolated Issue". Here is the copy of my emails with them;-
ME: I purchased this phone yesterday in the UK. I immediately got an OTA update to v10f. With this version there appears to be a bug. The "Front key light" setting doesn't change anything. I want to set it to "Always On" so that the lights are on whenever the screen is, but the button lights still go out after about 2 seconds.
This appears to be a software problem as other people on the forums have reported the same issue.

THEM: Based on the information you have provided me with, and after reading through your query, I would recommend that this is a standard setting on the handset unfortunatly unless in use the LED lights will power down, if you touch the LED lights they should illuminate again but unfortunatly there isnt a setting that you can change. Unfortunatly we are unable to do anything here at LG currently but we will raise this as a issue and you will have to wait for another update or bug fix if this is a software issue.

ME: This is definitely NOT a standard setting. Under software v10d this worked perfectly - as long as the screen was on, the buttons were lit up. The setting has the option of "Always On" and the fact that it doesn't work means that something is broken in the code. I have looked on XDA-Developers.com and found that I am far from the only person with this problem. There is also a partial solution which may point to the problem;-
"EDIT: OMG, changing the content of this file to 1 did fix it instantly! I'm not sure, if this app caused this behavior to happen but if anyone has the same issue, the exact location of the file is:
/sys/devices/platform/button-backlight/leds/button-backlight/br_maintain_on
EDIT 2: the file will be set to Ɔ' on each reboot, even with read-only permissions and when this app is not installed. It looks like this could be a firmware bug?
Maybe this will help - but at the moment I am seriously considering returning my phone and getting something by a different manufacturer as this is more than just annoying. Having those buttons flick off so quickly is a real nightmare when you are actually using the phone.

THEM: Based on the information you have provided me with, and after reading through your query, I would recommend that this appears to be a islolated issue, as said before i will raise a Voice Of Customer which means that i will be raising this issue to head office and they will read this and look into the case. Unfortunalty i must inform you that your handset is covered by LG for 12 months under warrenty but you will fully void this by changing the codeing or altering the data inside the handset in anyway, this will also mean that the LG engineers will not repair this as it will be deemed as rooted.

Can anyone out there confirm that they are running v10f and that the screen buttons work correctly for them. It would be interesting to tie this down and see if it is a problem with all v10f versions, if it is location specific, or if it maybe only effects certain batches of the phones.
---------- EDIT -----------
Thanks to this post by k1337Ultra, it appears that this can be fixed by disabling and then re-enabling the Automatic Brightness. Hope this helps others - very annoying though to find the solution buried in a totally irrelevant thread
---------- EDIT 2 -----------
And it works after a reboot as well. Yippee!!!!!
Good news for that you have fixed your problem .. Don't blame me with that because I am using V10C firmware and it is superb with no problem on LED buttons

Thanks - it would also have been helpful if you had either;-
1) mentioned that you were using an old version of software
2) actually read the OP and my post, realised that we were talking about a problem only in the latest version, and realised that posting would be fairly pointless.
its nice to see im not the only one that has the issue!! similar to you, if I enable the auto brightness the buttons stay lit fine, soon as I put it back, it goes back to going off after a few seconds!very annoying given they are not real buttons so can be a pain to find, grrrrr!
