active sync problem - Touch Diamond2, Pure Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, I used active sync on my XP machine, and it worked swell, but when I changed to windows 7 and installed "windows mobile device center" (which is required for vista/win7). And now when I connect to active sync on my phone it doesn't connect to device center, and I can't do a sync how do I change my phone (preferably without hardreset) so it utilizes device center instead??

To your phone, AS and WMDC are one and the same.
Does your PC recongnize the new device when you connect?
Typically you have to wait for your PC to install the drivers, then you will get a screen askihng of you want to register your device, but you have to open WMDC manually to get it to connect.
Make sure you delete any sync relationships first.

If you are still having problems with WMDC connection try this:
At the control panel resp. settings (connections => USB to PC) underneath ActiveSync there's a checkbox (I've got a German ROM and therefore I'm not sure about the English name of it - guess it could be "Enable faster data synchronization" or so). Uncheck this box and try it again.

My computer dont detect my HTC TyTn II

After a hard reset on the TyTn my computer is no longer detecting it when I connect the phone to USB cable. The computer makes a sound when I connect it, but Windows Mobile Device Centrer say that TyTn II is not connected, and it does not show up in My Computer eather.
I've tryed to delete the partnership and reconnect the phone, but nothing happens.
Can anyone help me please! Now I cant install any of my programs og transfer files between the computer and the pocket pc/phone.
Try this:
tap Start > Settings > Connections.
tap USB to computer.
Uncheck the Enable advanced network functionality box
Try this:

I uninstalled Windows Mobile Device Centrer and then tryed the tip you described here. At first it looked ok, my computer detected the device and installed the drivers and reinstalled Windows Mobile Device Centrer.
But my device is still not showing up in Windows Mobile Device Centrer or My Computer
Check your personal firewall settings and open the ports MS asks you to at the Windows Mobile home/support page...
Go into task manager & see if Activesync is running. I have the same problem with my tilt & if I kill activesync then reattach it takes a moment the first time, but then it works.
Make sure you are running the latest version of WMDC. I absolutely could not get WMDC to work with my HTC Wizard for months. After MS came out with an updated version of WMDC (around June, I think) it started working fine.
If you absolutely can't get it to work, consider using emoze for over the air syncing of cal, contacts, mail, etc. (or an on-line exchange account.) I had to do that for a few months until I got it to work. Emoze has the advantage of being free. Unfortunately, neither will allow file syncronization, tho.
There is no activesync running.
And everything was working just fine before my device went "mental" and I had to hard reset. So before the hard reset I could use WMDC on this computer, transfer files and run active sync. But now I cant.
I also got an online exchange account so I can sync calender and contacts. But I want to be albe to transfer files to my computer and install new software.
My WMDC version is: 6.1.6965
Some more info about the computer may help. For instance, I take it from your usage fo Windows Mobile Device Center that you are running Vista. In any case, since the problem is with the computer and not the Kaiser, I would see if the manufacturer would provide some support.
Yes, im running Vista and I buildt the PC my self.
But Im not sure its realy the PC that is the problem, because I made the changes (Hard Reset) to the device and thats what caused the problem.
Anyway, I was hoping for some way to debug/troubleshoot this problem.
I am having the same problem. I sync to any one of 8 computers at work and one at home. Work runs XP PRO and Home VISTA Ultimate x64 all worked fine untill this week. I have not made any changes since the last sync, the computers know it's hooked up due to activesync opening and trying to connect when I plug in via USB. But it never connects. I want to flash to Dutty's newest ROM but can't connect. I sync all contacts and e-mail wirelessly but need the computer to flash (I do not have a sd card yet) Any idead would be great! I have tried the ideas listed above but no joy. I have not hard reset the device as of yet ( I need some things off of it first)

I really need help with this!!! I'm pulling my hair out!
Did any of you that had this problem find a solution? I have the exact same issue except a hard reset will fix it for a while, and then the problem will reoccur a few months later. No software has been added during the time frame. Very annoying.
i've got just the same problem! plaese help us!

Making Vista show some love to your Kaiser

Alot of people are having problems making the switch to vista, i created this thread to help out making the move easier and help solve some compatability issues, as currently they aren't very easy to find all in one place. This thread is a depository for vista how-to's and fixes. I will continue to updates it as i find problems and solutions.
-----MY KAISER ISN"T BEING READ BY WINDOWS VISTA!!!!!-----
If your kaiser isn't being read by windows vista there is a pretty simple solution, you just need to disable advanced networking on your kaiser. To do this go to:
START----SETTINGS---CONNECTIONS---USB TO PC---UNCHECK THE BOX
After you do this your computer should greet you like r2d2 and install drivers and then connect to WMDC.
If you have further problems try swapping usb cords or using a different usb port (you have to connect via usb for the first time.)
------Using your device as a modem--------
WARNING tethering your devise is usually in violation of your contract, you will be able to use your phone as a modem but if you start using "excessive" amounts of data you could get in some trouble.
This is also a simple fix and requires only that you use the program "internet share" on your kaiser. (if you don't have it you can get it here thanks to ericc191) download the file and unzip the two items in it and place them in the windows directory. You can then create a shortcut and place in Windows>Start Menu>Programs.
Run the program and then select the type of connection you would like to use, bluetooth or usb. if you use bluetooth you will need to set up a partnership before hand. Personally i recommend usb because it is more secure won't kill your battery because it is plugged in and charging. Choose the internet service you would like to connect to and then push "connect" (left soft button.) Vista should automatically install the modem driver connect to your phone AS A MODEM. You will not be able to transfer file at this point as vista is recognising your phone as a modem, not as a windows mobile devise. you will not be connected to windows mobile devise center(WMDC.)
----I can't read my files or set up my device!----
Is your device connecting to WMDC? if not read "my kaiser isn't being read by windows vista." If your device is connected make sure you have disabled programs such as "MY MOBILER" as they do not react the same way as they do with active sync.
----Flashing in vista is here!!!
I take no credit for this, A big thanks to MrVanx as he made this tutorial possible!
One problem with windows VISTA is that it uses the new "Windows Mobile Device Centre" and not activesync which we are used to, thus our standard RUU programs will not upgrade our Hermes devices as in windows XP. This guide will show you how to configure VISTA to work just the same as XP with our RUU programs.
NOTE: PLease Download the latest version of WMDC before attempting this.
You will need winrar to extract the files
First of all you will need one of these drivers depending on your version of Vista:
Windows Vista x32 Usb Driver
Windows Vista x64 Usb Driver
NOTE TO x64 WINDOWS USERS, you will need to boot up with driver signing enforcement turned off. To accomplish this, you will need to press F8 during boot up. If you do not do this, the 64 bit drivers will not install properly and this tutorial will not be of any use to you.
And of course you will need the Vista RUU
Extract the contents to a folder on your desktop, call this folder "AS_DRIVERS". It contains the drivers from activesync which we will use instead of the native VISTA WMDC drivers when the device is in bootloader.
1.Now you must enter the bootloader on your device, to do this press and hold both the side ok button and the power button then put your stylus into the hole on the bottom of the device, your device will reset and show the red blue green bootloader screen. LEAVE THE DEVICE IN BOOTLOADER MODE and connect it using the USB cable to your VISTA PC.
2.Now navigate into the WMDC (Start>All Programs>Windows Mobile Device Center) and click on the "connection settings" menu icon.
3.In the connection settings menu untick "allow USB connections" then press OK.
4.Now exit the WMDC and return to the desktop, go into the start menu and type "Services", this will take you into the local services dialogue and show a list of all services either running or registered with your pc.
5.Scroll down the list and make sure these services are present:
Windows Mobile-based connectivity
Windows Mobile 2003-based connectivity
If these services are not started then double click each one and set them to Automatic start by clicking the "startup-type" drop-down menu and selecting automatic then click the start button in the same window, apply the setting by pressing OK. Now return back to the desktop again.
6.Go into the start menu and type "Device Manager" then run, this will take you into the device manager. Click the "+" symbol next to "Mobile Devices" and double click on "HTC USB Sync".
This will bring up the properties of the currently connected device (the Kaiser in bootloader).
7.Go to the "Driver" tab and click "Update Driver".
8.Click "Browse My Computer for Driver Software".
9.Select "Let me pick from a list...."
10.Click the "Have Disk" button.
11.Click "Browse" and navigate to the AS_DRIVERS folder we created earlier.
12.
Vista x32 users select the file "wceusbsh.inf"
Vista x64 users select the file "wceusbshx64.inf"
Click open.
13.click next and the driver will be installed (wait a moment).
14.Press close and escape back to the desktop now.
Now we must stop the WMDC process, start the task manager by pressing Ctrl+Shift+Escape.
Click the WMDC line and click "End Process". In the confirmation window, again press End Process.
Now re-enter the WMDC and re-enable USB connections (click connection settings and tick the box "enable USB connections").
Your RUU programs for HardSPL/Radios/WM6 ROMs should now run as desired once you are synced with WMDC. Since we have updated the driver which Vista uses when the device is in bootloader mode.
NOTE:: This technique is still in testing! It has been proven to work though!
The Vista Version of MTTY can be downloaded from dave daveshaw's site (http://taeguk.co.uk/xda)
Thanks dave!

Did installing vista 32bit drivers help anyone?
I had this problem before but not anymore as I am using a shorter usb cable that was used to power portable hard drive and now it connects every time and charges phone faster.

vista 32 bit driver is actually the driver from active sync, they should allow flashing, they won't necessarilly "help" with anything beyond that... does that answer your question?
The Vista Version of MTTY can be downloaded from my site (http://taeguk.co.uk/xda) - it's not my work, I just keep a mirror.

Well... It's good BUT i never had any problems with Vista really! More with Xp than with Vista! At least with Original Rom and Mobile device manager, no problems, everything works perfectly!

If Advanced Networking is disabled on the phone, the next thing to check is that the latest version of WMDC is downloaded and installed on the Vista PC (and reboot after that before plugging in the phone just to be on the safe side). Yes the last step is on the previous page but you may have missed it....

New Xperia will not connect with Vista

Hi,
I am getting a bit frustrated over this.
When I connect my X1 to my Vista x86 nothing happens (well the USB task tray icon show for about a second and vanishes again).
When I disable the "advanced option" in the USB/PC connection settings in the X1 I at least get a USB connection with something identified as "PocketPC USB Sync".
Any idea why this is happening and how I can get a real connection with the win mobile device center?
Thanks for helping me out!
Cheers,
Tillman
maybe give this a try:
http://modernnomads.info/wiki/index.php?page=Windows+Mobile+Device+Center+Troubleshooting
I've once had the issues of not able to connect my Windows Mobile device with vista too, and it can get very annoying.. good luck with it.
You might want to try and disable the firewall and then connect the device. I had this problem with Sygate Personal Firewall (sygate was bought by symantec and personal firewall is now terminated and no longer available)
Thanks for the quick response guys!
I already tried disabling the firewall (nod32) but that did not help.
Also checked all services - everything is peachy in that department.
But still - no connection.
When I switch back to "legacy mode" (disabling the advanced option in usb/pc settings on the device) then the device will tell me that I need to install active sync 4.5 or higher and wmdc still does not connect.
This is really strange...and annoying and the same time.
Any more ideas or any way for me to debug what's going on?
Thanks for you help!
Have you intalled "Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1" on your Vista-PC?
The MobileDeviceCenter should be standard without the need to install...
At my Vista Home the X1 had no problems to connect.
Open the Mobile Device Center and delete all old connections of other PPC. Then start your PC again, Softreset your X1 and try again. This should help. I had the problems too, when first connecting, because he didn't liked my G900-connection which was first
After this I too could install my G900 again and no problems since yet (2 weeks).

Well sometimes the Mobile Device center could stuff up or not work due to some issues such as installation of Mobile Device Center 6.1 went wrong. I have experienced that I think I didn't follow the procedures correctly and things just wouldn't work. Eventually I had to do some uninstall and reinstall many times to finally get it working.
When I first plugged mine it it installed some drivers but didn't show up in the Mobile Device Center; unplugging and replugging in caused it to work...did you change settings in between plugging in for the second time?
What I have tried so far (and nothing worked):
Uninstall / reinstall WMDC
Uninstall / reinstall Win Mobile Remote Adapter (yes, this does show up once I am connected with "advanced" USB mode)
Uninstall / reinstall "PocketPC USB Sync" (shows when X1 is set to legacy USB mode)
When in "advanced" mode I can also see a new LAN connection showing up in network overview.
The same X1 on a different Vista 32bit right next to this one will connect just fine. So it's definitely about a driver or config thing with this Vista.
This is driving me...well you know what.
btw, you did try restarting your comp when performing some of those steps, and you did try different USB ports right?
I know that you had to ask.
Yes I did. I have rebooted the system several times in between all those reinstallation tasks.
By the way. When I am in USB legacy mode and reconnect the USB cable then the X1 will show a messagebox telling me that it's connecting with the host and that the user credentials / user account (having to translate here) are correct.
But still NO connection visible in WMDC.
I had the same problem with my X1. I assumed that because my HTC Diamond worked the X1 would as well.
I finally installed WMDC from the SE install cd, and bingo!! al good. Hope it works for you...
Wow!
Even though it does not work (yet) it's showing some new signs.
Installing WMDC from SE disc fails at 99% progress and then rolls back.
There's gotta be some installation error log this, right?
Thanks for coming up with that suggestion. Really, I should try installing from vendor CDs more often instead of hunting down the latest version on the net.

maybe give event viewer a try and check under Windows Logs (not sure if it will be application or system tho)
just in case you aren't sure, in vista either type in "Event Viewer" in the start menu search bar, or type in "eventvwr"
Don't you just like vista?
That helped (to install SE's WMDC). The issue was that my HTC Universal was still connected to one USB port (for testing purposes since that device is not recognized either).
As soon as I unplugged the HTC I was able to complete the WMDC installation.
Unfortunately though it still won't connect to my X1.
Any more ideas?
what is your settings in Windows Mobile Device Center connection Settings?
Well here is my settings that is working with my x1:
Allow USB connections checked
Allow connections to "DMA"
This computer is connected to "Automatic" (this shouldn't matter)
Allow automatic device authentication checked
Allow data connection on device when connected to PC (this shouldn't matter either)
also, while this link was in the first link that I have posted for trouble shooting, just want to make sure you actually tried The offical Windows Mobile Device Center troubleshooting guide?
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/help/synchronize/device-center-troubleshooting.mspx
namely these steps:
Quote"
If Windows Live OneCare is installed on your machine, it may be blocking the device connectivity. Please click here for the steps to configure Windows Live OneCare to allow the device to connect.
My device wasn’t connected during this installation.
While it is not a strict requirement that you have a device connected during the installation process of Windows Mobile Device Center, we highly recommend that you do.
"
I didn't have the DMA set (changed that now). Everything else already was like you described and it does not work.
This really freaks me out. I always hated my iTunes/iPhone connectivity but that honestly works much smoother. Of course I do understand that this behavior is non standard as I have experienced myself that the phone works with my other Vista machine but that does not really help me here.
Any update on this? I am having the same problem.
I'm having the _exact_ same problem too, but in Vista x64. I don't know why WMDC can be such a c**t sometimes, as I have never been able to 'sync' with my Media Center PC.
My only saving grace is that my laptop has Bluetooth, and syncing works great on it. I have never had success connecting the USB cable (with many options changed around of course) to either of these computers. Only Bluetooth syncing works for me...
Hopefully we can find the answer!
What USB cable are you using??? the one that came with Xperia??? Cos the one that came with my Xperia never worked out of the box, it could only charge...
I also got another extra cord which came in another box, that worked fine for both syncing and transferring data until today, now it says USB device not recognized, maybe I was trying the flash X1 with new ROM through SEUS, did the whole lower volume key and power button to get the 3 strips.
Now I am using the USB cable that came with my external HDD, that's currently working, hopefully it won't fail me.
so any ideas??? I don't want to keep changing cables...

Vista-WMDC- Auto sync like XP?

Hi I recently upgraded to Vista from XP.
I remember in XP when I connect my diamond via usb Activesync would automatically run and sync the pim data.
however in Vista it seems like I have to connect the phone and then run WMDC in order to connect and sync.
is there a way to make it sync automatically like XP?
Try reinstalling WMDC. Vista should have it start up every time your phone is connected.
If that doesn't work, try adding WMDC to your Startup folder in the "All Programs" list. This will keep it running in the background but it will sync your phone each time it is connected.
Hope it works!
WMDC doesn't start automatically when i connect.
if I put WMDC into startup folder it would start but if I close its window (x button right coner)
it'd be off for good (meaning I have to manually run it again to sync)
I do have the sync icon in thee system tray tho.
it just doesn't sync automatically
I am perfectly aware of this. It must be a bug in WMDC because I'm on a Mac with VMWare and VMWare will have Windows start up WMDC without a hiccup.
re installing it for the 3rd time did it, I don't know why but it works now, it syncs automatically 40 seconds after I connect the device
after reboot it's back to Manual sync ode again..
man, this thing is really frustrating
Hi
In my regstry i have the following and it works well for me I have not had a problem.
look in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
in there is
Windows Moblie Device Center
key = REG_EXPAND_SZ
with %windir%\WindowsMobile\wmdc.exe
yes I have that on my registry too
Ever found a solution? It seems that I am experiencing the same problem.
Does Sync Center recognize your device after connecting it like on the attached picture?

HTC Kyser - Windows Mobile Device center (Vista) and Sync problem

Hello there, I am tryig to sync my phone with usb cable via windows mobile center 6.1. My OS is Win Vista home premium. My device is recognized by PC as media device and thus it could be set up by windows media player. When the "advance network functionality" on my PDA is checked is off, the on PC -> Network connections there is no local area connection to the mobile device. If I am checking the check box, then the laptop creates the connection to the mobile device, active sync starts to work, but nothing. The sync process is not completed and the status on the PDA is "connected. BTW in this situation I am able to browse the device and its file contents.
Tried to uninstall->install the mobile center few times - the same. Upgraded to the official WM 6.1 - the same. When trying to connect to PC with WinXP and active sync 4.5, everything is fine. This causes me to think that the problem is definitely in Vista.
Please, if anyone have information on this problem or could help, would be great.
Thanks in advance to anyone who might post any feedback!
Regards,
Stephan
