Not sure about froyo, but when I've switched from Desire to N1, I did see a big difference. Even though it's supposed to be the same hardware.

I've been reading a lot of posts lately of people wanting to go from CM7 to stock 2.3.3. Why would someone do such a thing? Am I missing something??

They don't want to use or don't know about the Dewonkificator and because of the wonks are willing to go stock. They think battery life sucks on CM7 and want better battery life with stock. They want the latest Android version. They use only RC or Stable versions of CM and therefore don't know about the improvements in the nightlies after RC1.
I would like to try stock for few days just for comparison and most likely go back to CM7 after that.
I have never heard of call wonks. What are they?

Gremlins that inhabit the CM7 ROM. They often run amok when you make or receive calls.
I think it only affects the stock dialer though. I use CM7 for daily use and have for a while now, and have seen a wonk once. It was ugly.
Dialer One didn't have any issues to my knowledge.
I've been using the stock dialer more on CM7 then I have in the past with little to no issues, although I don't call that often.
Cyanogen is the best
Hmm when i flash an other ROM then Cyanogen it feels wrong for me.
Imo Cyanogen is for me the way how Android must looks like.
I've been thinking about buying myself a new device but then i thought: "There will be no Cyanogen on it and maybe they wouldn't support it". So i wait for the next Googlephone.
My N1 will survive another year.
Great thanks to the Cyanogen team for this great job no one make a better one!!!
where's the tutorial of CM7 to stock 2.3.3..
i want to try it.. anyone please copy the link..
Backup followed by flashing the GRI40 zip from the development forum.
Hi all,
Any logical reason why Froyo would be smoother, faster, etc, than gingerbread on my particular hero.
I have tried most if not all the variations. Fresh installs, etc.
Currently using AOSP Froyo.
Not a big deal, just curious that's all.

I think it has to do with the gingerbread builds not including as many graphics and general performance tweaks as the final froyo builds. I think devs are still working on overall stability first. Once it's stable I think we'll start seeing performance get better.
Aosp froyo probably ran the best on my phone to date. I'm currently using CM7 and am enjoying it, but have had a few minor issues; blank black screen coming up, though not lately, market issues and my battery life doesn't seem as good as it was on aosp froyo. Aside from that it really does run well. CM recently released CM7.02 which I put on my phone this morning. I haven't been using it long enough to notice any difference. My wife's phone still has aosp froyo on it and I may or may not update it to gingerbread.

Thanks, I was just wondering if many other people were seeing this.
Can't really see that GB has any significant advantage on the hardware limited hero. Although, it is fun to run something that was never ment to run on our phones.

I'm wondering if there are any ROMs running Gingerbread that support 720p camera video recording. I'm really hoping for a ROM that supports this so I can use my Nexus One for more of a video recorder for YouTube. Much more convenient.
I'm not sure exactly which ROMs but there is a hack you can flash called Nexus haz or something along those lines that is compatible with quite a few ROMs. I think the thread its on has a list of ROMs. Shouls do exactly what you're asking for!
Hope that helps I'll try to get back to you with a link.
EDIT: Well I'm having no luck finding that for you but if you're interested there seems to be some sense roms with 720p for N1 and gingerbread. Well if nothing else there's this one, personally I have signal issues with this but they're very rare: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=995445
Once again I'll keep looking and get back to you! Could do with this myself...
Alright thanks mate! I did have a look at the "Nexus chazy 720p" thread before but it is only for CM6.

As far as I know the Desire source for the video driver is not released for Gingerbread. Because of that, only Sense ports have 720p video.
This is a bit off topic but tbh I just can't understand why they never released 720p officially for the N1.
Shame it only works on Sense ROMs. I don't really like Sense and always have issues with the signal on Sense ROMs since Gingerbread.
Well after some Googling I only found that sense ROMs seem to have 720p video, but I did also find this: www.drewgaren.com/DrewGaren.com/Nexus_Source/Entries/2011/9/6_Broodcomb_1_-_Nexus_One_(Passion).html . This ROM is called Broodcomb and it's based on Gingerbread 2.3.4. It has a 720p hack. I'm gonna try it today.

720p for CM6 is from Desire. They don't have a GB source and that's why we don't have it.
Ah, so that's why. I wants HTC to release their GB source lol.

The Broodcomb ROM is broken. Just gets stuck while booting.
EDIT: I forgot to wipe my phone. Silly me!

The ROM is good, but the video was only 480p. Not 720p. I guess I'll be sticking with my MIUI rom in the mean time.
If things like...
FM Radio
Camera
UMTS Video Calling
etc.. etc..
DO NOT work, and will just as likely NEVER WORK on custom ROMs such as CyanogenMod, then as far as I see it, it's a loss.
So what ~are~ the advantages to using something like CM10, besides the OHHH SHINY SHINY Jellybeen.
I mean yeah I can now use Chrome on my SGS, and that's about the only bright spot I see in it.
But I figure there has to be something more compelling out there that I'm either failing to see, or perhaps unwilling to see.
Would love to see your feedback on this!
People care about different things for there needs. You might want a fully functional camera whereas the other guy doesn't care.
Personally I would never choose CM10 over CM9. Why? Because the video recording and playback on CM10 is annoying and choppy. The battery life is awful compared to CM9. I wouldn't give up CM9 and good battery life, a properly working camera for a very little tiny extra speed.
The next guy to comment might not care about that as much and say CM10 is better.
Preference and wants/needs.

Two things I dislike about SpritFM are:
1: It's not free. Feel free to call me cheap, but why should I have to purchase this App for 1.99€ when it should be standard.
I was under some delusion that Samsung had even made this "Driver" available last summer for the benefit of the Open Source Community.
What ever happened to that? The way I recalled reading it we should've had a working FM by now.
2: I'd also like to air on the side of caution! Its not like SpritFM has the best reputation.
Or this is to say that SpritFM has a reputation of wrecking Phones Speakers.
This may, or may no longer be the case, but again SEE POINT 2!
I also love the Video Call function of my Phone, I have read and understood sadly why that's never gonna happen.
And I'll coincide that the Camera might be just down to FUD.
But again. What are the advantages to updating, besides the OOOHHH I updated because I could?
Is it really just for Chrome?
Well, for me,I don't care about the camera's working or not.'Cause all i want is test new things, new functions. If i want to use ,I'll flash back.
Hi Guys,
I want some feedback regarding ICS update. Is it worth it? I am on Rogers (Canada). Any one experience ghost call/sms? How stable is it?
I would appreciate any feedback?
Thanks
A lot of users are having difficulty with the base band working. There's a thread about it in the optimus forums. My son uses mine to play angry birds. Wifi works well. I think someone mentioned problems with Bluetooth connections. As with most things your mileage may vary.

From my experience MMS sucked, the camera was buggy, and there's a lot of Korean bits left in it. I think GB Prometheus ROM has it beat by a long shot to be honest. If you like working on Android you'll enjoy it cause you will be doing a lot of it.

It charges the phone a lot faster, battery's charge lasts longer than before while not using the phone.
Once you have flashed the baseband with the fastboot procedure (because once you have flashed the ICS rom you lose the GB download mode) and once you have deleted all the Korean T, Nate and SKT bloatware, it runs pretty great...HOWEVER!!!
You ARE NOT going to be able to adjust the brightness while watching 3d videos or movies while using the stock player...
You ARE NOT going to be able to use the 3D Converter as you used to with GB because IT DOES NOT TRANSFORM ANY GAMES TO 3D!!!
The CAMERA PROBLEM!!!
Some games are not running like they should (ocassional slowdowns not present while using GB) even if they are in 2D and you have most of the telephone's ram free.
Everything else appears to be working fine.
So far I've had great results with wifi, sms, and phone on straight talk in USA. Wish I could say for Rodgers. There is a thread here that discusses working basebands for the O3D and the Thrill. you should check it out.
