Hello,
I was wondering if the feature "allow google apps and some core librairies to be updated through the android market" is built in Froyo ? (aka google maps)
I remember it was rumored or announced. This feature will simplify the upgrade to the newer android version, because you can upgrade without changing the whole rom.

ICS will be entirely different than GB. so don't think apps will remain same after upgrading to ICS. but you can install it later after updating to ICS.
We should see how Samsung will release. i mean wipe or non-wipe. My guess is complete wipe.
I know Android is "Linux", and probably acts different, but
it's always been my experience that going from the "same" version of windows
via service packs, updates can be done with no wipe (XP>sp1>sp2), but
I've always had better luck, going from one version OS to another, (XP>Vista>7)
by WIPING everything clean and starting over.
I'm guessing going from GB 2.3>2.3.4>2.3.5 and so on would be like XP>sp1,
and going from GB 2.x to ICS 4.x would be like going from XP>7.
You get a better experience wiping so there are no left overs of the old code
still on the system.
When time comes for ICS for my Note, I'm wiping everything clean, not even going to bother backing up, just cataloging what's on my system, so I can install it
again....LOL, this will be one of those rainy weekend, nothing to do installs for
me.

That's stretching it... the Kernel has a Linux past history... but I wouldn't call it Linux.
Neither would any Linux dev's...
I'm sure a clean install would be a better option, hopefully Samsung give us the option so the phone is all pretty and new again

If I get it right, you want to know if your current apps are compatible with ICS 4.0 system or not ?
I think it may or may not, depending on how Google builds their system. And what we can do is to back up all our apps with a reliable backup tools (like Titanimu BackUp). When ICS 4.0 comes, we'll try to restore them and see if they work or not!
thanks everybody for the information. I m a bit smarter now. I ll just wait until 4.0 is on the market and then read the forums again before I do any installation.
Hello!
Im new to android story so please excuse my stupid questions.
I would like to install the barest version of gingerbread on my phone. Where to find it? Im not clear if stock mod is what i have on my phone now (original) or is it android without the preinstalled apps that i cant uninstall? I Would like the version without any preinstalled apps.
And since im meddling with my phone, what do you think is the best kernel to use with bare gingerbread?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2198341
Gingerbread is Android 2.3. The S Advance has Android 4.1.2 available for it (AKA Jellybean). Follow the above guide to upgrade to Jellybean, and if you want you can also install a custom kernel or ROM.
Stock ROM Gingerbread 2.3.6

Stock Rom is a System Rom which comes preinstalled in your particular android device when you buy it. Stock Rom is preinstalled by the manufacturer of that particular device such as Samsung, Nokia, Sony etc.
If you have Gingerbread 2.3.6 just do a factory reset and from Settings > Application Manager > force stop unwanted apps.
What you want is unclear in your post. What I could realize from your writing that you want a fresh Gingerbread to flash your device.
You can download official Gingerbread 2.3.6 from here. Choose OS version 2.3.6
where do u live? what is the official release for your device there?

Thank you for your replies people.
What I want is to install fresh gingerbread, but some kind of bare version, non samsungs version like i have now. Without preinstalled apps that i cant uninstall. Is that even possible?
What im asking is how is such bare version called and where to find it? and since im doing that i thought i could upgrade kernel but i m new to whole meddling with android thing so i thought i could ask which kernel is good to use with this version of gingerbread?
I live in croatia. There is no croatian version on the page above, besides, those are all samsung versions, like the original on my phone, right?
By bare version, I'm guessing you mean like stock android version like the nexus have. Unfortunately for this device, we don't have the stock android firmware. For GB, even the custom roms you found here is based on stock samsung firmware. So, there will be some samsung apps preinstalled in the custom rom.
If you upgrade to Jellybean 4.1.2, you can try the latest CM 10.1 nightlies (although it is not recommended for newbies, as it is still test builds but has gotten to a pretty stable version). Cyanogen (CM) roms are built from source and it is very similar to stock android interface.

Thanks. Thats what i wanted to know.
I ended up on this forum becouse i wanted to install new cyanogen, but after some reading here it seems that GB is still better option in terms of battery and performance. So i concluded that best bet would be gingerbread without the bloatware. Maybe ill try some GB based rom.
Anyway, i hope this information will be useful to someone else also. Or delete the thread if thats the practice on this forum.
One last question. Im pretty sure i know the answer but better be safe. If I root my phone, i will be able to unistall all the apps that were preinstalled that i cant uninstall now?

Yes, you can. You're granted with superuser access by rooting your phone. So you will be able to remove any app and play with your device anyway you want. :good:
Rooting Gingerbread is a bit tricky for newbies. Follow the guide in the following link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1985199
Sent from my GT-I9070 using xda app-developers app
I have a Samsung Galaxy S5570 and am one of those people who like to flash the smartphone, and that's because I was unsatisfied with the stock rom that had factory.
Well the question is that since I'm looking for a custom rom that comes already incorporated the functionality of increased memory without doing it manually this process; to add the ext partition, whatever, automatically from the rom is installed.
For my part I liked that feature why? as simple as it previously had installed a rom called MiniNux which incidentally came with this feature, at first had no errors and then were presented and that I had to update v2.1 v2, but unfortunately this rom stay discontinued in xda developers and that they had version 4 and tell me that you do not install this version? for if the install (v3 and v4) but expressed a number of errors such as: camera not working and increased memory picked.
Then I turn here as I have started to look on google but these custom roms say nothing about all its features, if anyone knows of some roms that have this feature to my smartphone, I would be eternally grateful.
The reason for not posting this question in open posts is because of what I see does not answer the questions that you add
Thanks so treated. :fingers-crossed:
I am currently on stock Android 7 and would like anything version 8 or later. I just received a notification from one of the applications I use that it will no longer be supported under Android 7.
That being said - what are the implications of rooting and installing custom ROM? From what I remember some applications may no longer work because something security related is modified.

Well the implications are that most of samsungs apps will no longer be working on custom ROMs (which didn't bother me at all).
You will loose warrenty as well.
Rooting is not really neccessary but was helpful for me.
S-pen will have only basic functions (marking /drawing).
Apps like banking, Netflix and more can/will not work.
Gotta test or ask specifically in the thread.
On my T810 this LOS18.1=Android 11 is (latest version) running very well.
