Missed Call/New Text Indicator Light - XPERIA X1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone, I'm new to these forums as well as a new Xperia X1 owner.
I love pretty much everything about this phone except I find one issue that doesn't seem up to par to my previous phones and I can't seem to find a way to adjust it.
Basically, if there is a missed call or a new text that I don't see right away, and my phone goes black (stand by), the 4 lights that light up around the phone seem to have really long intervals and barely flash. I feel like I have to stare at the phone for a good 5 seconds before I see a flash and it's not even that bright.
Is there an adjustment that I'm not seeing, or a way to adjust the intervals and brightness? I can't be the only one with this problem, my old phones had very bright and quickly blinking lights.
Thank you.

advanced config offers some options on that (at least patterns, not sure on brightness), illumineria in themes&apss even more
have a look, best

Different Screens, or Brightness with 2 Att Tilts.

Hi,
I Got another Tilt From warranty department. They gave me a brand new one.
When I look at my old tilt, the screen is much brighter, both are set to the brightness setting. If you go to programs or setting the white in the background is much white, as apposed to a creamy white.
Is there some other setting that i played with ??
Any help would be really nice.
I think HTC have been using two different screens, mines a really bright screen and a mates is much duller on the same brightness setting.
the brighter screen ones seem to be much easier to read in sunlight etc.
damn... HTC must have a huge quality control/inconsistencies with each model made. I tested out 3 different Tilts at fry's and each one's usb connector felt completely different. one was so tight it looked like it might rip out. they all 3 had very different feeling keyboards.. but, all 3 screens had the same brightness. So I'd assume some of the first production tilts didn't have as bright a screen as the newer ones.
Noticed the same thing with the Touch phone, my first one the screen was lovely and bright with a perfect white colour, then my replacement one at max brightness was slightly dimmer with a creamy white colour, over time I got used to it
Once I received my HTC Tytn 2 and compared it to the Touch it was like night and day, the Tytn 2 screen is lovely and bright and the white is perfect .
Wonder what's happening with these screens
I'm sure somebody else can explain it better, but there are in fact two variations of screen (I forget the terminology). Both have advantages and disadvantages (ie: one looks better indoors than outside).
There's a fellow on the forums here that sells both kinds as a replacement if I recall.
If there are two variations why did HTC decide to use two drastically different screens without telling anyone
I would guess supply is the factor. HTC contracts out sub-components like screens. Company X makes them several thousand transreflective screens....then Company Z makes them several thousand that are non-transreflective (excuse my tossing around what may be the wrong term there).
That's the right term, but the TyTN II spec never listed transreflective screens (for best outside viewing). There have been reports of different looking screens, probably batch differences from different display suppliers, but so far none are transreflective (easily checked by turning the backlight to minimum and walking outside or shining a bright light right on the screen. Transreflective will be easier to see as the light gets brighter and non-transreflective will be impossible to see under very bright light.
Disable the phone screen dimmer
Question?
There are situations that you must during a call and after a while use the key pad again, but the screen has turned to black. Its annoying to press the power button to alight the screen again. Does anybody know if there is a setting to change the time interval of the screen dimmer? (I do not mean the timer from battery saver).
Hi, yes i found the answer myself. Edit the Registry with Registry Explorer from SK-Tools www.s-k-tools.com en change the following key:
1 Modifying the DWORD stored in:
2 \HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL\EnableFastDormantDisplay DuringCall
3 from "1" to "0" will leave the screen on and falling back to the backlight/power settings)
Found the answer on Dutch site http://gathering.tweakers.net/forum/list_messages/1260492
Thanks anyway Ekw
Kaiser tweak has that option to enable screen on during a phonecall!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Any apps that switch phone over to night mode?

Has anyone come up with an app that will switch the phones dialer screen and other screens that show up white (and bright!) to a 'night' mode using either the light sensor or user identified times of day? It would be nice to have the phone automatically darken at night for safety like dialing while driving. I'm a pilot and they teach you not to look at bright lights while flying at night and to use blue or red lighting in the cockpit so as not to impair your night vision. Any thoughts? Has it/can it be done, reliably?
pocketmax phonealarm
even does way way more than that
google it.
change profile based on location, remind u of stuff on set time intervals.

Flyguy, I think that's a great idea that hopefully will one day be stock for all cellphones. The Raphael having a light sensor was a big selling point for me, and also a major let down to discover that it is barely functional.
As technology moves forward, I would LOVE to see accurate and effective light sensor hardware combined with a mobile shell that can not only dim, but switch to a high contrast color scheme.... something along those lines.
check out Lumos, works great with the light sensor......
uhhmmmm
why are you making phone calls while flying? shouldnt you be.... eh nvm hope this wasnt an ancient thread....

[Q] Which is preferred for missed notifications- LED or Active Display?

Thinking about getting a Droid Turbo but not sure about the notifications....I currently have a Note 2 and I really like having a front LED for missed notifications. I am not sure if I would notice active display as quickly or not. I thought I would ask and get some opinions on which is preferred(if had the choice of both).
I do miss my led but I've had one since the Droid X. So far Its something to get used to for me. If you aren't sure you can just wave your hand over it. I wasn't sure about it but I'll give the blinkey light up for the performance I have now over my old S4
Honestly the active display is awesome but to disable it when driving because it tends to keep turning on without any notification when on my gps mount but for me it's no big deal. The active display won't affect battery much since this is a amoled display and only the needed pixels (white ones) light off and the rest are completely off.

I watched a video of it for Moto X and the strobe rate does not seem to be often enough for me. Is it adjustable to where the notification can just stay on the screen instead of strobe? I check my current phone with only a brief glance for LED notifications, and I would surely mess the notification on active display if it's in between strobes.

Is this why my screen seems to blink intermittently? It doesn't even seem to have a pattern... It's not like "regular"... omg, I want to disable this so bad!!! Definitely horrible when driving and mounting the phone in a mount. It's irritating and distracting.
I guess that I never noticed that there was no more LED to blink!
I missed having an LED at first, but the active display functionality has grown on my like a tumor! LOL!

Same here! It's just so awesome! For me it's better because it's as if the led were on because of the amoled display.

What do you do when you have it laying on a desk/table and you glance over and miss the notification because it was at the moment that it was faded out?

Jiggle, move it, flip it, etc. It senses movement as well.

That's true and simple just wave you hand close to the screen or any movement really turns on active display. The notification doesn't go away until you have gone to the specified app to see what it was

just put your hand near it, you don't even have to touch it. The notifications will light up. Unless I am doing it wrong, it would be nice if I could touch that notification icon and swipe and it took me to it.
Here's how I usually operate...my phone is always on my desk or on my couch face up....without me touching it. How can I make it to where if I glance over at it without touching the phone or waving my hand over it where I can see the notification without staring at it? Is there a way to make the notifications on the screen stay on without fading in/out? With the speed it fades in/out, I know I will miss a notification while it's faded out.

You have to touch and hold the notification icon and slide up. That will open whatever application the notification is for.
I just went from note 2 to droid turbo 2. I miss the led light. I am a mom and sometimes I let my 3 years old play game on my phone while I shop. The led light let me know someone is trying to reach me. I can not tell anymore with droid turbo 2 because of no LED light. And, I still haven't found moto display useful. My husband noticed I don't response fast enough since the new phone. The note 2 and turbo 2 are are almost same size so I do not carry my phone in my pocket often because it is uncomfortable and sometimes even fall out of my pocket when I am cleaning, carrying dealing with my kids, so I like to lay it down and look across the room for the LED light. I am severe to profound hearing loss in both ears and wear cochlear implant so when i am not wearing it, i like to see the notifcation across the room.
I am giving my husband the turbo 2 (I could return it but he wants it). I going to get a phone with a led light.
we actually do have an led light near the front facing camera, but i have no idea how to activate it and it doesnt seem to be used by any app. ive seen it come on twice but idk why it came on. it happened while on the charger and it turned green.
Active Display all the way, hate LED lights.
I think you can get the led to work with some combo of light flow and xposed. It also is used by default with RR. I'm torn on which I like. I liked active display on stock, but it doesn't seem to work as well on non stock based ROMs. I've been using the LED, but it doesn't really blink, it just stays on solid when I have a notification.

How to avoid the AMOLED flickering?

I've recently bought the 9.7" version of the Tab S2. I was aware of how unrealistic and oversaturated the AMOLED display is on default setting, but luckily this can be turned off, so it was the very first thing i did (though now the white balance is off, but at least it is not oversaturated).
Unfortunately i wasn't aware the fact that the display at below ~75% brigthtness flickers. The lower the brightness the more disturbing it is. And it drives me crazy. I hate the flickering cheap cr*p LED light bulbs, i hate that most notebook screens with LED backlight are non PWM free, and are flickering And after having this tablet for three days, i am hating it too. I frankly believe these products should be banned, because it hurts your eye, and your brain. I thought when we said good bye to CRT monitors, flickering screens will never be an issue again. Unfortunately they are :/
After googling the internet i found this article gs5.wonderhowto.com/how-to/eliminate-screen-flicker-lower-minimum-brightness-android-0157760 but the solution unfortunately requires a rooted device, wich would trip the knox and void the warranty, so it's a no no for me. Then I found several other apps on the play store which are doing the same without requiring root access: drawing a black overlay over the screen and you can set the transparency of it, so you can get a lower brightness without the flickering, because your screen brightness is around maximum, the lowered transparcy of the black overlay makes it less bright. Unfortunately none of these apps work like the one for the rooted devices, wich has a second slider at status bar, so instead of the brightness you can change the transparency at the notification screen. The non rooted apps i found do not work this way, they don't have the extra slider, you need to tap them, so you can get to where you can change the trasnparency and that's very uncomfortable. I tried so far Darker and three other Screen Filter apps, but none of them works with a second slider :/ Also using the Screen Filter apps when there is a smooth color transition on the dipslay (default background picture for example) gives ugly end result. Using a Screen filter app might reduce battery life so i might need to charge it more often (i don't care), but since the display is not flickering, it is always on, it might will burn in faster (i do care, i intend to use this tablet for 3+ years) So i am currently in debate wether i should return this product and get my money back or not. It is a really great device, but this terrible flickering of the AMOLED screen makes me super unhappy, wish it had an IPS display :/
If this is an issue for you too, and you found a Screen Filter app with a second slider at the notification area (without requiring root permissions) please let me know.
Is this just an s2 thing, nothing of the sort on my tab s?
Sent from my SM-T280 using XDA-Developers mobile app
It's not an S2 issue, I've seen several other phones and tablets in low light conditions set to a low brightness flickering like mine.. But you can test it, set a low brightness and start waving your finger in front of the screen like crazy. If you see ~10 seperate fingers -like in the picture attached- instead of one blurry (what you should see if there was a constant backlight), than yours is flickering too.

I see what you mean, but it doesn't bother me as there is no perceivable flickering at all and it only happens when the brightness is below a certain level.
If that certain level would be around 20% brightness i wouldn't care. I haven't tested out yet, but that certain level is somewhere below 70% So -for me- it would flicker all the time.
Eh, there is no screen flickering but your finger is flickering over a light source aka *screen*. It's an optical illusion you are referring to.
I am also very sensitive to pwm on displays, it takes me less than a minute to feel sick from the display having pwm.
Any further solutions to this? Thank you.
I'm using the the app 'Night Screen' it does the job on Android 7.0 on my LG G6 which uses pwm under 35% of brightness even though this is an ips screen. Hope it helps.

Thanks for answering this 3 years old post I used Darker in the last three years to eliminate the flckering and was happy with it. I checked OLED Saver now, but it's permissions says to me it's a big no no.
Unfortunately, since Android 8 apps cannot draw a an overlay over system areas (notification bar etc., thanks google! ), so i guess i'll never have an OLED screen phone/tablet again.

GALAXY A30 Screen brightness problem

Hi everyone, I bought a Galaxy A30 a few months ago, and I have noticed after playing Call of Duty that when playing the screen lowers automatically its bright from one moment to another. At first I tought it was some game related bug, because when lowering the notificacions panel the screen bright still marks the top level. After a few days I noticed this started to happen in another apps like instagram, suddenly the screen lowers like 30% of it brightness and I try to move the brightness bar to a lower level and go back to full to see it it goes back to normal, but even with the bar at full it stays like that, darker, with a very clear difference from the full bright of five minutes ago. I know there is an option for auto brightening wich was always disabled, and if it was caused by that option, the brightness bar should also lower and not staying at the top as it does now.
The thing is that whenever this happen, I get used slowly to the new amount of bright and cannot tell if it goes back to normal or WHEN it goes back to normal. If it does, its pretty gradually because I dont notice it. There seem to be nothing in common between the cases, this doesn't happen when charging or something like that, happens anytime..
Does anyone knows what can be causing this?
