Milestone Problem - voice search - Motorola Droid and Milestone Q&A, Help & Troublesh

Hi,
So I got my Milestone yesterday. It currently has Android 2.1 (update 1).
And I saw alot of Android phones have speech to text stuff. Ie: When you click the search button on the milestone, you can either search or use your voice to search.
Even my sisters G1 which uses Android 2.1 has the speech search option. Why doesn't my one have that option, and how can I get it?
At this motorola link at the milestone home page:
You use the Text-to-speech settings to configure the Android text-to-speech synthesizer, for applications that can take advantage of it, such as TalkBack. TalkBack speaks the labels or names of items as you navigate the phone’s user interface.
Step 1: Enable Talk Back:
From the home screen, press Menu
Touch Accessibility
Check Accessibility
Touch TalkBack
You will be shown a disclaimer, touch OK
Click to collapse
I saw that my option says to enable accessability. That option seems disabled on my phone
What do I do?
firmware 2.1(update 1)
Version - GAS_EMEA_USASHLS00RTINT_P014
Kernel Version - 2.6.29-omap1
Build Number - SHOLS_U2_02.34.

Your sister's G1 has voice search because she is running a custom rom with it already included. I believe somewhere on here somebody asked where they could install htc_ime keyboard from. Find that thread and install that keyboard I believe it comes with voice search.
If not there should be a voice_search.apk file floating around you can install. I honestly can't remember what I did, but I certainly have voice search on my Milestone. I would try with the htc_ime.apk keyboard first. If voice isn't there, then find the voice_search.apk file.

Here are some instructions I wrote:

CalliGrapher 8.5 Write Anywhere problem

Anyone out there successfully installed CalliGrapher 8.5 onto the Tilt and got it working properly?
For me, it installed ok, but I am NOT able to select the Write Anywhere or Write Pad SIPs. When I click on the SIP selector icon, it takes about 8 seconds before the popup menu appears with the list of SIPs. And though I then manually select Write Anywhere, the popup screen goes away, but the SIP does not change.
I have a strong suspicion that it is conflicting with Voice Command because at one point I had it installed before Voice Command was installed and it worked fine. But I need to do more testing to see.
But I read on a blog that someone also experienced the same thing, but he reverted to 8.3 and it worked fine.
Launching the application via Start | Programs... produces the same results. The only difference is that I get the splash tip screen, but I still can't select the Write Anywhere SIP.
So, if you have any suggestions and especially if you are also running Voice Commander 1.6 alongside CalliGrapher 8.5, please let me know! Thanks very much!
I'm running both, but with the keyboard I'm using Calligrapher very little. In fact, their stupid dictionary irritates me so much I end up switching back to the regular keyboard sip. What irritates me is that when i'm NOT using Anywhere, just the sip keyboard or full keyboard, it no longer 'suggests' words or more importantly contacts/email addresses.
Finally the recognition for my handwriting is just off enough that I have to make too many corrections to be worthwhile.

[Q] Vibrant without Android Keyboard...

So I have a Samsung Vibrant GT-i9000m from Bell Canada with the FFC. Some how I no long have the Android Keyboard in my list of input method's (long pres on text input field) or in settings -> Locale and Text -> Select Input Method -> Swype or Samsung Keypad (only). My phone is unlocked (i bought the unlock code form Bell directly) and I used the one click lag fix for rooting the phone. I'm unsure when I lost the Android keyboard but I know for a fact I never deleted or uninstalled it. I can only assume that the bell unlock code or the one click lag fix rooting app are the cause of the missing input method.
Does anyone know where I can download the Android Keyboard? I've searched a bit but Android Keyboard give a vast variety of results even on the app brain and market.
Many thanks in advance for any answers!
Swype or Samsung Keypad
that is correct
those are the default input methods, you can always install more if you want
like the HTC keyboard or the Moto Droid keyboard, or many other available out there
but of them all i prefer the swype keyboard better
I recall having a 3rd option "Android Keyboard". It has a mic icon in the bottom left corner i assume for speech to text. Kinda like the Iphones voice search that's what I'm looking for. Yes I strongly agree Swype is better but when I'm driving I wouldn't mind some speech to text or voice search.
I did find on forum.xda-developers .com under thread 709519 but its 114mb kinda big for a keyboard. (cant post URL)
I might be wrong and never seen the Android Keyboard option but I know I have seen screen shots of other peoples Vibrants with this 3rd option that I assumed was stock to android 2.1.
Even my google search widget doesn't have the mic icon for voice search.
vLingo it comes as part of the phone
you need to install it in Samsung Apps
it's free
it does voice control and voice dictation
needs some minor training, it can handle accents
OMG I had it all along and never tried the vLingo keyboard. Thanks so much! YOU DA MAN.

Changing the keyboard (workaround)

So, if you don't like the Swype keyboard for some reason, the settings menu on the Streak 7 does not give the "Input Method" option. I finally found a way to change the input method.
If you go to the AccuWeather app, which should be preinstalled, and go to enter a new location, you will be asked what input method to use. From there, you can choose the regular keyboard, Swtpe, and most likely, any installed keyboards. This setting should stick, even in other applications.
I know this isn't exactly the greatest thing since sliced bread, but I hope it helps someone out
Normally under android you can long press any text input box and it will give you the option of changing input method you can then select any available keyboards that way
If you download a new keyboard or something, you have to remember to turn it on in settings before you can use it

Damn...I thought I was onto something. I never noticed that before, except in AccuWeather

[Q] Is It Possible to Crreate Text Messages with Voice-to-Text?

I feel incredibly dumb asking this -
Is it possible to create text message text with voice input?
My Android phone always had a mic button on the keyboard to initiate this feature; which I can't find on the WP7 keyboard.
If I'm right and it's not possible on Nodo, is there a chance it will show up on Mango?
Before posting I checked this forum; all of XDA, my user manual and then Bing'd and Googled it as well and came up nil.
Any feedback is hugely appreciated - thanks!!
(EDIT) I just found out this WILL be a key feature within Mango..
There is a mic button for speech to text in 7720.68 works flawlessly!
Sent from my HD7 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App

Use a wired or a bluetooth headset and all goes to auto...
Read this.
Also just to clarify in Mango under settings, speech make sure enable speech recognition over the network is on. the very bottom option let's you choose when to use it via bluetooth is the default, but you can choose headset or all the time. basically it works the same way as voice to calling does. Hold down the windows key when the voice promt comes up say text then the contact, the robo chick will prompt you to say your message.

Waze/Google maps - issue with voice search

Hi all,
something that is driving me crazy...
I recently bought a Kia Seltos.
My mobile device is Galaxy S9+
I'm using Waze with my native language - Hebrew (interface and street names)
My phone's language is in English.
I can't perform a voice search in Hebrew in Waze.
I saw other people with my Type of vehicle and setup:
Whenever they press on the steering wheel "voice command" button, and perform a search in Hebrew - it finds the address they were looking for.
When I press the button to search - assistant performs the search in English and doesn't recognize what I asked.
I tried and modified all kind of settings including google settings related to language and voice and nothing helped.
anyone encountered it or can assist?
Thanks!
Different Language - Same problem!
Google Assistant is not supporting my native language, while using it on the mobile device works great.
Did you manage to fix this issue?
It worked fine for me till last week.
I fixed it before but i cant remember or find what fixed it before.
Nope, still searching for a solution
