if gingerbread is the future of android devices, it suppose to support hardware capabilities that may not be on the nexus that has been around for a while.
i really wanted to buy a nexus, but it seems that when android 3.0 is out - it should be followed by high end devices by HTC and others.
i really don't know what to do here...
gingerbread is said to launch mid november - not a long time to hold off.
but hey, what do think? wait or buy nexus now?
That is Exactly what I am doing! The desire HD looks wonderful, but i think There will be a VERY nice phone coming on T mobile with new gingerbread already there around Christmas....Just my guess
It seems T mobile and Google have some sort of special deal when it comes to android, like getting stock android phones.....and there MUST be a stock gingerbread phone coming soon!

First, Gingerbread will run fine on a N1. Second, no matter when you buy a phone in a couple months another one will come out that is even better. The N1 has an awesome modding scene though.

nobody know that for sure...the minimal requirements may suit the N1 but it may lack the ability to perform certain tasks. we've seen it happen with other phones.

true for most cases. to me nexus is different from others by design. that phone feels right. i really couldn't care less about all these samsungs or motorolas that are out there. and other htc devices seem too big like the desire HD that was mentioned.
basicly, the world need a NEXUS TWO!
So you think Google will develop an OS using their development phone, but not all features of the OS will work on the phone they developed it on? I highly doubt that. Google debunked the minimum requirements roomer for Gingerbread, that was nothing but a site trying to get traffic. Do a little thinking on the subject.
If I were getting a new phone soon though, I would wait till the next gen ones come out. I do love my Nexus though!
the nexus one was a success in regard of telling the world "this is what android can do right now". others did follow and it is biting the market share making other mobile OS look like code accidents.
none the less, why shouldn't gingerbread allow "facetime like" video service for capable devices? the technology for that is in the wild. that is only one example. i am sure there are more features just like that.
at this point, maybe it would be smarter to wait.

Whether or not Gingerbread includes a facetime like option is irrelevant to how it will run on the N1. Obviously any phone without a front-facing camera will not be able to do something like facetime. Gingerbread itself will run just fine on the N1. Without going into any technical reasons, just think of this. Of all the Android phones out there right now, the top ones are all in the general vicinity of the N1 in performance. If Gingerbread wouldn't run on the N1, then you cut out these phones too which means only as-yet-unreleased phones would run Gingerbread. So on what basis are you questioning it?
You should probably wait though since you don't seem sure about the N1. The only guarantee you can have is that in a few months from now an even better phone will be released. And then a few months from that once again, and repeat... Dual core snapdragons will start finding their way into phones at some point soon. If you're not rushed then just wait and see what comes out.

Oh ffs, you must be joking right? Just go and buy the Desire HD if you want android.
thats what i was thinking. why would you buy an HD7 with the intention of putting android onto it, when you could have just bought the Desire HD.
Oh FFS, here we go again
guys stop being so mean, give him the link so he can download android.exe

Just ignore the kids. It is not possible to do that, yet until maybe when the bootloader is cracked
Guys I just brought my HD7 can you send me the link to WP8?*
*sorry had to do that, still wetting myself with laughter at the moment. Putting aside the fact that the phone is just 10 days old and has no way of upgrading it's native OS at this moment in time why would anyone want Android on the HD7? There are already perfectly good phones with the same spec that already have Android as the native OS.
It's a bit like buying a car and expecting it to FLY me to Spain.

That review in your link is a WP7 ad, dumbass. What about lack of multitasking? Lack of copy/paste? A terrible browser? Lack of flash? WP7 is clearly not ready for prime time. Anyone with half a brain would know that Android is much, much better in its current iteration.

What's with the hostility?
I'm a massive android fan, always have been, always will be. I had the G1 when it was first released here in the UK and I've convinced many people to take the jump to Android.
I now have a HD7, I wanted to try something new (yes I've tried iOS before and hate it). Android isn't "much, much better" infact there are a lot of things that WP7 does 1000x better than Android. Ofc there are things missing and there are also things that Android does better but they're pretty equal imo. Infact, Personally I actually prefer Windows Phone 7.
Before you call me a "dumbass" like you did to the previous person, may I point out that you're talking to someone who is currently perusing a Computer Science degree at one of the best Universities in the UK and has had Android for exactly 2 years today.
---------------
Just to add, back to the OP. It's not possible to "install" android atm. It might be in the future though we'll never know.
And for people calling him stupid, it does sort of seem stupid at first glance but think about it this way:
Android = Open Source
WP7 = Closed Source
WP7 will therefore never be on an Android handset.
It may be possible to one day port Android over to WP7 handsets due to it being Open Source.
So theoretically, buying the HD7 over the Desire HD could be getting you a device capable of running 2 OSs, we're just too early in the lifecycle of the OS to even think about porting Android yet.

OK, so copy and past and multi tasking are not there yet, Flash? When did Flash come as part of Android? You can add it after, which again is going to happen to WP7 in the future.
Before slating someone else, maybe at least have half and argument to back it up.
And as for the original OP, it IS a silly question, the OP obviously has some knowledge of multiple operationg systems to be able to ask that question and not as naive as people may think. Some people are so hooked on having the latest and greatest, shiniest shiny thing, that they already want to replace a 10 day old OS!
I never realised the foot-and-mouth syndrome was still out there.

I love that you call someone else a dumbass then put forward these over used and dry arguments. It is so bad when people have to try and pick holes with half hearted points.
First multitasking seems to be a big buz word and on a phone is a lit of hype over nothing. For 90% of smartphone users it adds nothing to the expirience but extream battery drain. All I seemed to do whith my desire is close programs wasting away in the background.
Flash and copy and paste will be here within a very short time a d tbh I am thankfull tha MS has given us wp7 now with the promise then make me wait longer for it to be out, if you can't live without it till the update then just wait for it before buying as you would of dond if they held it back till then anyway
And last the browser that at first glance looks like android wins and tbh it is so much better to use BUT it is a huge memory drain and that linked with multitasking means if you move to a diff app while on the wrong site and when you come to make a call, the thing a phone is for, you will have no power to do so.
Wp7 is not perfect but j feel people see Microsoft and jump on the it must be rubbish bandwagon. Wp7 is a real revolution in phone os and I for one am glad that I sold my desire to get one the benefits far outweigh the small to be fixed holes.
Hi all,
I know the N4 has enough source code in AOSP and elsewhere to be able to build an AOSP ROM, but it doesn't quite seem "official" and doesn't offer that undeniable security of "Nexus support" that many have come to know and love. Now, I know people have said it's due to the Qualcomm chip being so new that it would take time to officially work it in, and that it'll likely come around with 4.2.2. Even still, I'm paranoid (just having bought an N4 myself). Is anyone else worried about the N4's future? Or is it just buyer's paranoia?
I'd love to hear some thoughts on this!
Just paranoid, you can't build a fully working Nexus 7 ROM solely from AOSP either, thanks to Tegra.

I figured that it was just that. But I suppose I was just seeking some reassurance haha. Between the recent articles on LG only making "as many Nexus 4's as they want," the speculations going around about the Nexus 5, and this lack of any word on AOSP support, I just got awfully scared that the Nexus 4 might be one of those devices that isn't around and supported for very long.
Speculations....Don't you love them when device is new...
Give it another month or two and everything will go back to "normal", just like with any other device.

I've built AOSP for it myself, that isn't the issue; it's a more general statement. I'm not relying on anyone for satisfaction, but there's a certain plus to being in a larger community rather than in one where it's only a few who feel stuck with the device.

So HTC and Sammy will sell their own Nexus variants tomorrow Mod edit to thankfully make me look less silly
These nexus variants will be without half the features that make the S4 and HTC One the phones that they are, no remotes, no Touchwiz or Sense, no blink feed, will the 4uMP camera perform the same? Will all the gestures be in the S4? All for what? Two devices running stock? With the exception of the LTE, proper devs should be looking towards the Nexus 4.
I keep reading in forums that people have convinced themselves stock is faster...... better on the battery (debateable) have more access to apps. Please stop it........

Because OP doesn't have a Nexus.
I have had a OnePlus device and never planned on changing that until I did some reading and file system digging. It seems that a deliberate move to stop any rooting or Interpreting files' function is happening from Oppo/OnePlus. Looking around there are a few things that seem out of place like build prop and other things. I've had a few A/B devices so nothing to that affect but it's just weird.
Anyways, i have sent a few messages and will keep doing it and asking for a more formal way if complaining than talking to some low-mid level employee will do. Figuring XDA is one of the biggest groups that have control in the android community I'd ask you turds to hop in with me and see if we can bug them enough because after this crap I'm out of the OnePlus game.

You know. Not trying to sound negative, but the amount of regular users outnumber the users that modify the oneplus phones. Won't harm them at all. Love the push on trying to get a answer, but this is bound to happen to all developer friendly phones. Eventually and sad to say I feel the same will happen to pixel devices.

Doubtful. Real Android software developers buy Pixel phones too and Google's phones have *always* been glorified dev kits going all the way back to the Nexus days. Google also benefits from the openness of the Pixel platform as it makes it easy for devs to fix things and submit patches so Google doesn't have to pay someone else to do it. Now phones that have been tampered with will undoubtedly find it harder and harder to dodge security checks implemented by devs who believe such mods are a security risk but that's an entirely different issue.
It's also not really worth speculating about the future as there are alternatives right now, like the Pixel 7 series, that are totally wide open for tinkering.

People said the same thing about one plus. Google is definitely making it harder for the pixel especially going to a/b. Just watch Google will lock down their pixel devices as well and then it be the end of modding devices unless people can find back holes in the software. Guarantee that's going to happen soon.

A/B was never meant to lock down the phone, just to allow background updates and some redundancy so that in case something goes wrong, the phone can revert to the other partition instead of it just bricking. The issues for third party development have largely been addressed by this point. Google hired away the developer of Magisk and still lets him work on it so I'm not too concerned about it for now. My Pixel 7 Pro is fully unlocked and rooted and working great. The only things I miss from my OnePlus 9 are the fast charging and the fingerprint reader that wasn't testy. Everything else I'm much happier with and I highly encourage anyone who's not happy with OnePlus to take a look at the Pixel series.
It's also not relevant what might happen in the future as there are devices that have the openness people are looking for available *today*.
Fuk OPPOPLUS. Nevermore.
