Nexus One or mytouch slide - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

okay so I have a g1 right now but I'm going to upgrade and I came down to the nexus or the mytouch slide and I want to pick the right phone because if I make the wrong decision I will have to keep the phone for almost 2 years for my next upgrade. I heard the mytouch looks smooth and the htc sense theme is cool. But the nexus one has a better screen the the mytouch and it can compete with others but its media, contact, and message display is oldschool kind of like the g1 so I'm kind of stuck which one should i get

isnt a mytouch with a slide out keyboard just a G1?

Compared to the nexus one it is
I don't know what actual hardware improvements are on the Slide other than the keyboard
but it can't be too much since they are releasing the Slide's updated sense on the oringinal MT3G
I say go open source, easily unlockable, completley customizable nexus one!

The new mytouch slide has better specs and a slightly bigger screen, but still well below the nexus one.
I'd go with the nexus one, the hardware keyboard isn't worth it.

Haha, that is almost funny. MT3GS is 10 times the phone of the G1. Either way, this thread should be in General and will get moved or closed very soon. With that said:
I have both, I love both. The N1, hands down, is way better but if you cant stand virtual keyboards, the MT3GS is very nice. Sense is great, the keyboard is layed out very nice and easy to type on. The phone is snappy and responsive, not slow AT ALL! The screen is a little larger then original MT3G/G1 but still a low resolution. They did, however make the OS look very nice on the phone. BUT, if you want to root, hack, modify and play with the phone go for the N1. They will, some day, root the Slide but the N1 will always be the dev's phone of choice. Hope this helps.
P.S. If this is going to be your phone for the next 2 years, I would go for the Nexus, it'll be able to handle whatever they through at it. Eventually the slower processor of the Slide wont be able to keep up.

I think the Nexus is way better. It has a better screen, better processor, more memory and it can run froyo. Also, if you root it, you can run the Sense UI. The only thing the Slide has on it's side is the slide out keyboard. I actually use my nexus to play all the old school snes and gba games and it plays it perfectly.

I own both, and both are awesome! It really comes down to the keyboard. Either way you will be happy. The mytouch has lots of cool features built in that aren't available on the nexus 1. It's bubbly and from what I've seen it actually has a better GPU than the nexus 1.
Personally I prefer the nexus 1 for me and the mytouch slide for my wife. If you don't plan on rooting your phone and flashing roms constantly than the mytouch is probably a better way to go. If you want to be able to customize everything and make sure you always have the latest and greatest, the nexus 1 is a safer bet.
Good luck! If you wait until the 19th, I think they are giving the mytouch slide away for free. Search google for the details, I think it was on tmonews.

The Slide actually doesn't have a better GPU, its just a lower resolution so it gets better scores.

The Galaxy S is supposedly coming to t-mobile and being announced on the 29th if you wanted to wait another month. It has the best hardware.. but i don't know about the UI.

I would go for the Nexus One! If you truely plan on keeping the phone for two years the Nexus One is a no brainer. The MT3GS hardware will be way behind in two years. The nexus one may be outdated in two years but the specs on the N1 should make it possible to keep up for quite a while.

Motorola actually plans on releasing a 2GHz Android powered phone by the end of the year according to several reputable websites. The Nexus in theory will be outdated by the beginning of next year.. then will come the dual core processors that are also in development.

And 3 months after you buy that phone HTC will release a 2.5GHz phone. Welcome to the technology era!

thanks for the quick replies

I have both. Well, mytouch slide is for my wife but I'm in charge of getting it rooted and "played" with. I was very impressed at how fast it is for the specs. It is not slow at all, very fast but in the end, the nexus will keep up longer being it has the better hardware. Mytouch slide is pretty cool though imo. Very fast. Needs root. Root!

I second this.... In fact I'M in the exact same position. Get the nexus because it has a better camera and screen, or get the slide because you love the qwerty and like the simplicity of Sense UI.

I'll tell you tomorrow
I got a MT3GS, and I hated what T-Mo did to the interface. I *may* have done some things to the phone to get a different interface on it.
I suggest you have a read on the Slide forum. The recovery image is not currently writable, so to get into recovery you have to go through this song and and dance every time. Add to that the low resolution screen, and well, I wasn't 100% satisfied. I ordered a nexus one while I'm in the period where I can return the slide. It'll be here tomorrow. I'll post a comparison once I've tried them both out. (I thought I needed a hardware keyboard, but Swype has convinced me otherwise.)
In favor of the slide, it *is* really snappy, a huge upgrade from the G1. It feels to me like what the G1 should have been, not tripping over itself all of the time, and there *are* a lot of people working on ROMs for it. I'm sure in another few months it'll all settle down. The keyboard is not as nice as the G1's. If only I could have a device with the G1's keyboard, and the resolution and power of the Nexus One / iPhone 4. I'd drop $700 on that right now.

Or welcome to Moore's Law.

I also have had both. My advice would be to get the Nexus One which has wifi tethering no matter how you decide to run it, stock or rooted. Then keep the g1 handy with wifi turned on and minimal apps installed just for writing emails and whatever if you need a keyboard. I hate trying to write a professional message on the N1, but its more doable on a g1. That's it's only flaw.
If you have to use the phone often while driving, the Slide will be safer. But your better off to avoid the phone while driving, except for maps and music of course. And the voice-to-text is unbelievably accurate. So the N1 wins.

I would say what you plan on doing with the device is a big factor. If you want easy rooting, the N1 is the best ATM, but if rooting is a secondary concern, the upcoming Galaxy S series looks to be the top performer at least till the end of the year. The Slide is nice, but I doubt its staying potential, unless android get a lot more optimization; there are a few things I have read that would help though. (a new Dalvik VM called Dalvik turbo is one)

It didn't take long, I returned the slide shortly after getting the nexus one. With swype this phone is fantastic, and I can actually type faster than on the keyboard off the slide. Of course, now the vanguard or whatever it's called her been leaked, so if you really need the hardware keyboard, you could wait for that in September.

Milestone (droid) - Nexus One; Worth it?

I am looking at selling my milestone (with Telus) to switch to the Nexus One. Is it worth it, or should I hold out longer. Just can't stand this locked bootloader.
Any input?
tough call. I say its totally worth it as the nexus is so solidly built. newer phones like the incredible are very plastic feeling. but others might tell you to hold out for better phones on the way soon. I say buy the nexus now and enjoy your phone.
How come you cant simply research the phone yourself, and make an easy decision - there is also a thread like this a few threads down. It may not be comparing the Droid, but there is a thread (and other threads) asking if the Nexus is worth the time of day.
Taking user input from a forum mostly populated by major fans of the device with a few that aren't biased won't help you much.
I don't make a thread on forums every time I want something asking is it worth it, though I can see how people want to be careful with their money.
I wouldn't do it because the Nexus One isn't that much better than the Droid especially now that the Droid has 2.1 and a keyboard. You really won't see much of a difference switching over.

Simply being able to root would make me instantly switch if I was in his shoes.
What's so great about root on the Milestone? Wireless tethering is really the only thing I can think of. Granted that's pretty big for some, but not most.
Is your Milestone updated to 2.1 yet? Unless you can get quite a lot of cash for your it I would just hold on for now. The nexus one really isn't a massive upgrade from it.
@Zeusus,
Dont get the nexus one, hold out for an EVO GSM version/Dells Thunder, they normally come out after a couple of months. Right now switching to Nexus will not give you that extra ummmph you are expecting. It will be a better choice but not the best at this moment.
the nexus one will most likely be the first phone to get Android 2.2 Froyo
It all depends really, first answer these questions.
Can I do without the keyboard?
Can I get 3g currently on my phone?
Does the milestone satisfy?
Lastly, will the Nexus One solve all of the issues you have currently.
For me it was a no brainer, I had an iPhone 3GS and with no 3G and already without a keyboard or reliability. I chose the Nexus. Keep in mind, the milestone (I think) has a better touch screen. If you don't mind quirks Nexus One is actually fairly perfect imo.

Nexus One or myTouch 3G Slide?

I've been out of the phone market for a bit, making due with a cooked Windows Mobile 6.5 on T-Mobile because of not being able to sync my corp email on Android.
Got an email today and seen the new myTouch 3G Slide. I had a Sidekick 3 a few years ago and love QWERTY keyboards on phones. I have an iPod Touch and not sure if I could use a virtual keyboard with all the texting/emailing/ircing I do from my phone (I work in IT). Just from the picture, I immediately thought this would be my next phone.
After further research, it looks like the myTouch 3G Slide is geared for consumers/family while I would consider myself a power user. Compared to the Nexus One, it has a scaled down CPU (600mhz) and has the Expresso UI, which I think I would rather just have a stock Android. But it does have a QWERTY keyboard!
I started looking at the Nexus One. Faster processor, stock Android but no QWERTY keyboard.
I'm trying to decide which phone is for me. I would like to stay with T-Mobile. I tried Verizon for a day, bill was $40 more per month and they had IRC ports blocked. I want to be able to multitask and IRC/AIM from my phone, with IRC constantly connected in the background.
Also, I do not live in a T-Mobile 3G area. I would be on the Edge network and not sure how either of these newer phones would perform.
After some time, I could probably reload the Slide without the custom UI, but I'll be stuck with a 600mhz processor and that bothers me.
With the Nexus, I would have a better performing phone but no QWERTY. The QWERTY might be the deal breaker but I'm not 100% sure.
Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks!
The Nexus One is the first phone I've owned without a hardware qwerty keyboard and I thought it was going to a really tough transition. Then I got the swype beta. I still prefer hardware keyboards, but I wouldn't trade my Nexus for anything else on the market right now.
Having used the MyTouch3G and now using the Nexus One, I'd have to say N1. Especially if you're an IT guy and wish to do multitasking and moreover wish to multitask without facepalming every 5 minutes. There is NO comparison in speed between the MT3G and the Nexus One. The N1 is snappy every minute of the day no matter what I throw at it. The MT3G can still do all the same things, but honestly, it's slowwwwwwww... Go Nexus One and get yourself Swype. You'll never need another hardware keyboard again.
Don't disappoint yourself!
Edit: Unlock your bootloader and load whatever UI or custom ROM you'd like on your N1
Jim
You must be kidding?
Smaller screen
Lower resolution
Slow processor
Weird custom UI
Low developer support
Most likely locked to T-Mobile
And a bit ugly
You can get used to using an on-screen keyboard. And there's more than a half-dozen of them to choose from.
You can't get used to small, slow, outdated, crappy hardware.
If you REALLY want a physical keyboard, at least the Nexus One is unlocked and has extremely high resellability. So when a Snapdragon-wielding physical keyboard phone arrives, you can make the swap easily.
There's just no contest here.
At least wait for the LG Ally to get released before you make any decisions.

Here's my two cents.
A smartphone without 3G BLOWS...you won't enjoy the full capability of the device.
If I were you... I'd go with Sprint. Chances are they have 3G in your area. The Evo 4G is the device you want. If you're really a power user, you'll want to shoot yourself if you have a slower device than you need to... and I'll be honest. I had a G1 prior to the N1. I was weary of not having a hardware keyboard, but typing on a large screen makes it much easier... the Evo will probably be even easier.

I know exactly how that feels so I can relate!
So with that being said, I think it's time for me to get off T-Mobile since they do not have 3G in my area. I liked T-Mobile because they are an underdog and I have a grandfathered unlimited Internet package for only $20/month. Sprint and Verizon do have 3G in my area. This has been a non-issue with my old phone since I mainly used it as a texting/email device.
While looking at the new T-Mobile phones, the HD2 really caught my eye. Large screen and it just looked good. I did not like the idea of still using Windows Mobile 6.5.
I looked into uansari1's suggestion at the Sprint EVO 4G. This is the phone I am going to get! The EVO 4G has the same hardware as the HD2 and the latest Android build! It's time for me to stop worrying about the qwerty keyboard and move on.
I am not under contract with T-Mobile so I'll be visiting Sprint soon and hopefully get a pre-order.
IgpI say go with the LG Ally. I can't exactly find how fast the professor is, but it is official that it will feature Live Wallpapers - so it can't be that bad. It runs Eclair (Android 2.1) and has a slide out QWERTY keyboard as you want. Oh wait, though, its coming to Verizon.. and you said you just switched from that.
Well, in that case definitely go with the Nexus.
Bigger screen than the Slide, faster processor, it is Google's phone, the developer support is high, it is easy to root - and I can type as fast as I could on my G1 with the HTC_IME keyboard (the keyboard that HTC Sense features, that can be installed on the Nexus). Really this was one of those duh questions, unless you really need a QWERTY keyboard, the choice is simply too obvious.
Though, if you like Espresso (the custom version of Sense that the Slide possess), you could easily root your device and install an HTC Desire ROM. It's not exactly like Espresso, it may be better, or equal to, to some.
Oh your going with the Evo, that's good. T-Mobile can't be an underdog, I wouldn't think an underdog would be the fourth largest carrier in the US. That's not first, second, or third, but fourth is not entirely horrible.

I think the biggest issue for the OP is the lack of 3G, which will limit his ability to enjoy his phone. If the N1 still goes to Sprint, he'll have that option as well if he goes with that carrier.

would att have 3g coverage ? the nexus one is available with att service. not that I'm promoting att... oh god.
if you love hardware keyboards, you'll miss it on the nexus one. i have.
i haven't personally seen the slide, so i can't comment on it's cpu speed... but if it's similar to the g1, i don't see it being a problem.
can't answer your exchange question either, i never touch the stuff.
I work at Tmo and have gotten to play with the Slide. I also own an N1 which between the 2 I prefer my nexus. I love the larger screen, longer battery life, and faster processor. the slide is a good phone and better than any android selection you can find at a Tmo store at the moment. The ui on the slide us very smooth and very impressive because the processor is not that much faster than a lot of the androids Tmo currently has.

Nice analogy! lol I do have to agree... I have to use wifi where I live, but I work in a 3g/HSPA/HSPA+ market... at home I feel like what I assume a junkie feels when they are in rehab and are forced to use smaller amounts of juice! I think the HSPA runs as fast as wifi and the plus is like ungodly faster than sprints "4G"... Nexus is HSPA and under, but no confirmation on H/H+

Nexus one or no nexus one!

Hi
Im stuck making this decision so ive decided to ask you guys
I atm have a hero. But im fed up of dodgey 2.1 roms, and playing 3d games like a slide show. I just want a fast android phone that will last me till the end of next summer!!
However being in the UK i can buy it from a friend brand new boxed (their on voda) for £400. Im just wondering is it realy worth it?
ATM this device is preety much the best smartphone out, and with constant android updates i dont think it will be left behind likemy hero anytime soon. But £400 is a LOT of money (im a student ).
Do you guys think it is worth it?
Thanks
Well I think its totally worth it. Think of it this way, the nexus is Google's phone. It's their developer device, the flagship. So hopefully it should have all the newest updates for the next year or so. Even though there are slightly higher end android devices coming, the nexus is still Google's "official" device.
Coming from a G1 running the latest roms, the nexus one was awesome upgrade.
Android needs a lot of ram and the 512mb built in the nexus is really great for speed.
I enjoy my phone more and more each day, it's well worth the price to have this superphone.
Getting froyo first is enough reason to pick up the nexus one

I'm from India (where no support for this device is available) and I'm a student too but I ordered mine... You're from UK where official support is available... so be happy... and this device is worth it... go for it..
Just traded my HD2 for the Nexus, and I'm not regretting it.
What I do miss about the HD2 is the big screen, better speaker, and fpsece
But I can live without those.
nexus has a brighter screen, future, more apps, makes up for it.
Seems faster and more responsive than the HD2 even though it has the same processor.

The Nexus One will put you ahead of the curve in the 21st century and beyond Go for it.
The question is this "Nexus One...or no Nexus One?" The answer is obvious...buy a Nexus One. You can do more **** with a Nexus One than without one. Consider the following option:
1. Have a bada$$ phone that uses an iPhone as toilet paper.
or
2. Have nothing.
I hope this provides you with enough insight into such a simple inquery.
this is coming from a mytouch3g former user, ill tell you what I like and don't like about the phone:
Like:
speed(in general basically, in games in processed when opening webpages, I find myself not using opera mini anymore because of the speed of the browser to render pagee, on my mt3g opera was my default browser)
screen (is big but not huge)
google support(this phone will get google support up its ass lol meaning new updates months before any android phone)
Not like:
terrible signal (I had amazing signal with the mt3g, with the n1 I get no signal at clubs or at the mall, its switches back and forth from 3g to edge, I've tried a lot of settings still womewhat buggy)
the screen(gosh is it annoying to type on this phone well wen I had just bought it if my palm or fingers were anywhere near the black edges of the screen it won't let me type it was such an annoyance, a tech support gave me a great idea which I was thinking of doing anyway 'a case might help', it really did help it adds thickness to the phone therefore ur palms or fingers never get on the black edges
my decision is quite difficult, I paid 300$ for the phone off the google site,so what I cud do is sell the phone for 400$ pay my 200$etf get an incredible or an evo4g off sprint but I got a hunch that 2.2 is gonna be all that so I would say wait a little bit like till the end of June is not that far and see what happens with froyo. .. gl: )

Got my N1 since Jan and still lovin it to this day. Only thing I think you'd miss from the switch is the screen size of the HD2. Incredible probably would have a closer feel to the HD2 since it runs sense ui (stock). But you can also have sense on a rooted N1 and a lot more tweaks.
The Nexus is sexier than the Incredible, will get updates sooner than any android phones atm and has more dev support if you decide to root. Only reason why I would probably get the Incredible is coz of the carrier (Verizon) and not the device.
i just talked the girl i've been hanging out with into getting the incredible, but only because she wanted to stay with verizon. i've played with it. i prefer the nexus, personally. i think the nexus one looks better, and it definitely has better dev support, if you wanted to tweak it (unlock the bootloader and root it, then put on custom ROMs).
however, if i was going to be with verizon, i'd take the incredible, for sure.
only thing i don't like about the N1 is the crap coverage i get, but that's a network issue with TMO, not any fault of the phone.
Well i think he has t-mobile since he has the htc hd2 well i switched over just about a week ago from the htc hd2 to the nexus the htc hd2 lags and to slow its beautiful in looks but thats about it.. Once u use it its horrible the nexus one does both it looks AMAZING and it's supER fastt.. Once hacked EVEN FASTER.. and froyo 2.2 is just amazingly fast mine is rooted and stuff already because ive used android before ive had it since the g1 android so yeahh but you should def do the switch =]
Yeah... Froyo with JIT and Flash, although its a work in progress. I couldn't ask for more, perfect phone for me at least.

If you hold the phone at the bottom, the signal strength drops dramatically.
The multitouch sensor flips axes when your fingers get close. No problems for pinch/zoom but bad for games that rely on multitouch. Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ieuB0VvkmwA
It's difficult to see the screen in bright daylight unless screen brightness is all the way up.
The soft buttons are difficult to hit until you get used to them (the touch points are higher than the labels).
I think that's all of the issues...
If any of these would be huge problems for you, get an Incredible or an EVO 4G. However, the N1 has the strongest developer/hacking following currently, and is sure to get any updates from Google first and long before any other phone (as has been the case with Android "FroYo" 2.2.) And of course, the look is personal preference; I think the N1 looks the best of any current Android phone with the Incredible/Evo being very plain and lacking style.
Anyway, Nexus One, Incredible, Evo 4G: the absolute best three Android phones across all four carriers in the US. You absolutely can't go wrong.

@ScootAUFC It's superior by the nature of its unlocked state and the fact it gets updates quickest of any Android phone...

Planning to get the n1 since I can't stand the winmo interface anymore, its taking to much of my time to get everything working everday, planning to do my first switch to android and thinking about getting the n1 or the desire. Interested to know if theres anything I need to know about the n1 that is a put off. Stuff that annoys users on a day to day basis. I mean no offense to n1 users, just trying to get some info.
Thanks

Get the EVO 4G instead unless you're outside the US, in which case get the Incredible.
No reason to buy the N1 now that it is no longer the top Android phone. With the EVO 4G you aren't losing anything, and only gaining.
EDIT: After reading a couple of the other posts, maybe the N1 would work out better due to faster updates and unlocked nature of phone at ship.
No I dont have the T-mobile hd2 I have the normal one the T8585, and I live in Australia so incredible is out the question. Or else I would've seriously thought of it, it definitely looks incredible I mean 8.1mp and 4.3 inch screen damn thats good.

Is screen burn-in really an issue?

Thanks a lot for all your input, but the problems thats you've listed are they a day to day issue for n1 customers. I mean would you be annoyed by it everyday. Does the desire have similar issues. I probably don't know where to get the incredible from and it would also probably be way over my price range.
Thanks a lot

After a year, is the Nexus One still a good buy?

I've been toying with the idea of buying a Nexus One for some time now, I'm no stranger to Android, having owned a Droid 2, Droid Incredible, and now a Samsung Captivate that I use with work. I currently also have an iPhone 4 as my personal phone, and I was just given an HTC Surround and Samsung Focus to replace the Captivate with, so I have to decide which I like more. I love Android, I've always been more drawn to it than my iOS devices, although I do love my iPhone. Now that the Nexus One has been out for a year and has its "successor" (depending on who you ask), is it a good buy still? I'm tired of waiting for AT&T to come out with something new that's a real killer phone, I've been hearing whispers of the HTC Desire HD being in testing, and the Moto Olympus being announced at CES. I'd get a Nexus S if I had T-Mobile and it had a microSD slot, but other than a larger screen and NFC capability, I don't see any real upgrade the S brings. What does everyone think, if I get this Nexus One is it a great buy and I'll enjoy it for awhile, or should I save my money and just wait longer?
PS, I know I own too many phones I can't help it! 3 phone lines will do that to ya
I barely got my nexus one so I would give you my own personal feedback.
Cons:
1.battery is some what horrible under medium to heavy use you can always tweak the phone to make last longer but sometimes is a pain in the butt.
2. 512mb of storage is a step back having to always watch what you installed, once again you can tweak it and make it less of an issue.
3. touch screen feedback is not the best like other phones that are out there. also having some multitouch issues on all models but I hardly notice the issue.
4. My personal issue not having a call and end keys is a pain but that just me been picky.
5. another personal opinion camera its not the greatest in my opinion.
Pros:
1. I got the phone for 295 under no contract that's a awesome deal I think.
2. will get gingerbread soon.
3. Having stock android makes things so much better I could of bought many android phones but the lack of updates made think twice of spending 300 plus.
4 this is a big one for me having to tether and having hotspot internet without rooting makes me so happy.
5. Adobe flash I love having flash for the same reason I didn't buy the nokia n8.
I know for a fact next year will be a big year for android if you wanna wait.
I have my nexus a year now, bought it when it just came out. I can agree with josemedina1983. Nexus is mine longest phone because it never got bored, there is always something new to find out, and google bringing the always the new android version makes the N1 up to date. All the new HTC phones are almost like the Nexus, some have more space to install apps on but that's it.
The only thing that bothers me a bit is the touch screen, it works great with apps but soon as you want to play games that require multi touch it's a nightmare.
I like mine N1 it has a great design works great love the trackball (miss it on new models) the dock station is great. i think i wil keep using mine N1 till something really great comes (didn't find a phone to replace it). I don't like the looks of the Nexus s it really feels cheap.
I think N1 is still a good it has it's flaws specially if you want to play games on it.
I've had my N1 for a few months, here's my take:
OS: Froyo with eventual Gingerbread
- Huge community support on the current OS with 'in-view' plans for OTA update to latest OS.
- Lots and lots of ROMs for this puppy, you can hack this baby four ways from Friday.
- Rumors that Gingerbread on latest Nexus S still a little green - will hopefully be ripe when it gets to N1
Phone cons:
- POS multitouch support (doesn't mean it's not responsive to single thumb touch).
- only 512MB of internal memory (but you can root and get Apps2SD to make up for that) [on a side note, isn't 16GB of internal memory on the Nexus S enough!?!]
- Bad design on the power button, will most likely fail after a few months if the design hasn't been fixed (see link in my signature)
- No Gyroscope - but it's not like you don't have other phones to play games on
- No NFC - but how soon are people going to start using that anways?
Phone Pros:
- Been around for a while, huge support community (XDA FTW!).
- Lots of hacks and tweaks for the phone as well.
- Anything wrong with the phone has already been discovered.
- Lots of developers have it, but you don't see it out in the wild that much (unique 'special' factor).
- Still a high end processor for the next few months until the Tegra 2s come out.
- Probably get it cheaper now that the Nexus S is out.
If you can get it cheap without a contract then sure its still a good phone.
But I would not pay full price for it or go on a contract in order to get it at this point.
Its not a bad phone at all but the phone market moves soooo fast its blinding.
I'll be keeping mine another year and then getting whatever is newest once my contract is up.
All really good advice, I feel like I'm still getting a phone that's relevant in today's market, but at the same time I know that something else is going to come soon and just put it to shame. I would like to know what's wrong with the N1's multitouch, is it just unresponsive or does it really not work? It's taken me quite some time to track down one that's sub $500 with the AT&T 3G bands, so I'm weighing the options very carefully here. After playing around with the Nexus S for some time a few days ago, I personally didn't find anything on Gingerbread that really stood out to me from Froyo, and I have it running on my Incredible now. It would be really nice to get something that was completely free of any carrier or manufactor influence as far as updates go, and easily hacking other roms onto this thing seems to be really easy. The power button issue I've heard about from other people, but some say it's not too hard to fix, so that isn't too bad for me. Decisions, decisions.
Just get the S
If you own another android phone and still using it i dont see the point of buying another one especially having the incredible its a damn good phone I think the incredible,evo,nexus,hd2,droid x,g2 are the classic android phones of 2010. I would wait alittle bit and stack up those 300 for the next phone. I feel next year windows 7 nokias meego and android tablets i love having alot of OS options.

I have had my Nexus One 6 months and think it is a great phone. IMO one of the best looking phones made. I also have a Desire as my main phone and have used the Nexus to learn about rooting and custom roms. Its copped a hammering from experimenting but it has always come back to life. Google is defiantly your friend here LOL. If you have the spare $ and not to concerned with whats around the corner with the next gen Android its a good buy. But maybe that its 12 months since release a more current phone may be better. Try Nexus S. When it arrives in Australia I surely will get one. Good luck with your decision.
Steve.
It's a good phone, but I wouldn't buy it now after a year it came out, unless you get it really cheap. With CES happening right now, you should definitely wait and see.
If I need to recommend a phone I would still recommend the N1 provided its cheaper than the NS
Definitely a phone worth getting, more ROMS then you'll ever know what to do with. I've been back and forth between MIUI, cyanogen and enomthers ROMS and have never been.disappointed. battery life is amazing with these ROMS. My nexus at 1.113 Ghz outperformed my friends droid X at 1.465 Ghz and his rooted Evo

Its not the best but the biggest problem I have is axis flipping and the snapping to match the axis of the other finger (Don't know what that's called officially). It's not the best video and neither of these problems really bother me in day to day use. I vote it's a great phone to own and will be for a few years yet. As for the power button i've had mine since last march and still no issues.
I still think you should wait the nexus one AT&T version are pretty rare and they still go for around 50 + bucks, more than the t-mo version.
Comes this february then I officially own a phone that lasts for a year. Lol I used to change phones a lot. I just tried to find the perfect one for me. pam there it is

Amazon.com deal on N1 too good to be true?
Been a long time follower of this forum but only just registered.
Looking to buy a Nexus one. It's going at $298 on Amazon from one of their eSellers. It is listed as new but most of the feedback on this seller refers to refurbished products - and sometimes when the buyer was expecting a new one. So I am really sceptical though it is very tempting to be able to get the phone for <$300.
Anyone here Ble to advise? Any better ideas on where I could look?
There are a lot of killer phones out there but....I like having one of the only phones that has Gingerbread without rooting (2.3.4). Exclusivity; I haven't seen one in the wild. Hotspot and tehering without rooting. Vanilla Android. While the touchscreen is buggy at times, I love my N1. I have had it for a year and never regretted my purchase. This is one of the phones that will be remembered for quite sometime IMO. A classic, as it were.
