Can anyone make fancy Rotation animation just like in spare parts for android 1.5 possible on the nexus one? because Rotation is just so plane and motionless right now...

So any updates on my Rotation request?
This is something I've wanted since I first powered on my Nexus One. There has to be a way to do this; even the Adobe Reader app has a decent rotate animation, why can't Android 2.1/2.2???

Because we are all about performance and not looks.
We're androids - everything about efficiency and speed.
Zero looks. Ya know... like the Borg. Rofl.

I couldn't care less about anything Apple. I still think that if our hardware can handle it, which it obviously can, the software should support it.
What's wrong with making things look a little smoother and more polished? As opposed to the snappy orientation change that we are all accustomed to; which, in my opinion, looks like crap and is nowhere near the fluidity I expect from a $500+ phone.
I don't think it would be bad to have a fancy rotation animation. I switched from an iPhone 3Gs a month ago and I love my nexus one, but I rather have fancy animations.
We could have both with the nexus, performance and a fancy GUI.
With a 1Ghz processor I don't think the performance of the Nexus will be worst and also could be an option to turn it off.
Even the iPhone 2G has rotation animation and runs at 412Mhz.
Just my 2 cents.
Yeah I would like a unique rotation as well. At first I didn't like that the nexus rotation was slow but then I realized it gives it a moment in case you're just moving the phone not rotating it. Anyway it seems like theres time enough to have a nifty/smooth rotation without losing speed. Now that you mention it I'm surprised there are no apps addressing it. Mist be a difficult modification
The nexus rotation is soooo snappy. What do you want it to do that it doesn't do stock? Zoom the page out then zoom back in??
I would like Graphical rotation and im not saying i hate android because im the biggest android fan since the G1 and never looked back! and never owned a iphone.

actually this makes a lot of sense, this phone can definitely handle some of the smooth graphic motions that the iphone has probably better than the apple product. I hate how slow the iphone (3G) feels in comparison with my N1 but those animation make up for a more solid looking device.
As a graphic artist I think android has the worse thought out ui ever. You can drag about it as much as you want on how great and snappy it is, but even desktop Linux distros moved on to a better looking interface, simply because it makes it more functional.
I'm not praising the half baked capabilities of the iphone, just its interface which obviously went through a lot of thinking and I don't see why the stock Android shouldn't be on par or better. Google should take some tips from HTC sense UI and Apple.

Sense UI is probably one of the worst skinnings ever. The stock android UI is easily on par with iphone because it works, smooth and flawless. Skinning the UI is just gonna eat up ram and memory stuff.

Why can't i pay $70 a month for tethering like on the iphone when i have to pay $0 on the touch pro..... some things in life aren't fair for everything else theres Steve errr Apple - http://i.gizmodo.com/5285898/bart-tears-down-dvd-jons-apple+baiting-doubletwist-ad
the iphone's a great piece of machinery and there's no denying it, but if people want something to be like an iphone than get the real thing. i hate these iphone themes and wannabe applications, so i say skip the damn aspirations to be iphone-like, or to be as cool and unique as the other millions and millions of iphone users
xda fits more for hardcore users, not sheep
Why do you all keep putting down the iphone and flaming about it when that wasn't the question? I'm also someone who likes the animations that phones like the iPhone and Palm Pre have and would love to get them on wm6.5. If the iphone had a keyboard and was on verizon, i would've went straight for it. We already know that the iphone doesn't have a keyboard and costs $75 a month so what's the point of writing that? No one's asking to turn their htc into an iphone or even copy the interface, it's just a simple question. If you don't know the answer, don't waste everyon'e time by ranting about the iphone's faults. I'd settle for just animations whether they look like the iphone/palm pre or not. It makes rotating the phone or going back to the home screen look much smoother.
Anyway, i have a question that ACTUALLY pertains to this topic. Is there a way to get the accelerometer effects like the omnia/iphone/palm pre or like Opera 9.7 when the device is turned? I like how the page kind of flips when it's rotating.
I feel for you :] I like some animations like that as well.
Granted, I'm an avid iPhone basher also, but I do like 2 things about it, and one is the animations and visual effects.
...the other is the capacitive touch screen. But, hey, they can't use their phone with a glove on. ;]
thank u! u understand what am saying i love my htc but **** come with some cool animations that all am saying!!
Wouldn't it be possible to design a Flash based menu system?
EDIT:
http://www.downloadsquad.com/2007/1...comes-freestyl-windows-mobile-program-launch/
some iphone interfaces do have animations
and if you want the palm pre interface for opening apps that are up you can combine butler with taskfacade. both which were out before web os was announced
butler turns your capacitive area into an app launcher
and taskfacade can be mapped to one of the areas and it will animate zooming out of the app and show all that are open. pretty snazzy

Do you also believe that if you want to edit video and photos, you need to get a Mac....If you're going to set up a file server, set up a linux box....and if you're going to type up a report for your boss, you need to have windows? I'm pretty sure all three OS's can accomplish each of those tasks, even if one may have a slight edge on another (even if only by stereotype). If everybody thought like that, there wouldn't even be standard Desktop Linux users.
The notion of having some animation on the screen shouldn't be limited to a few specific handsets. We have the technology, we just have to make it work the way we want.

I agree to an extent, I think those mock iPhone apps are useless, but that's because I think the iPhone interface is useless. I prefer to think those apps exist for another reason...to show iPhone users that there's nothing special or cool about their phone. I like being able to say, "I can do everything your phone can, but can your phone do this?" At that point, I can show off the other home screens, interfaces, and tools that they can never aspire towards because of the mountains of limits put on their phones.
The home screen on the iPhone sucks, we all know this...but it's made cool to the millions because of a few simple animations. The complainers on this thread are ignoring how much more appeal can be gained with such small improvements. Just think about the incredibly simple animations they use, and how easy some of them would be to duplicate (or improve upon).
Alright, I've probably said too much...I'll go sit down and shut up...

very well said. i feel the same way and think that the touch pro definately has the specs to be able to do simple animations like fading in and out of applications. im kind of glad the iphone's home screen is just a boring app launcher. Now if it was able to run plug ins like tf3d and spb mobile shell, windows mobile may be in trouble
why is the iphone mentioned here? the iphone has over (IDK) generations and they all look alike nothing different and just plain boring, i mean it has one main button and the apps are just lined up! "TALK ABOUT A BORING UI"
If you really want animations, you sadly need to look for 3rd party software. Who knows maybe it'll be built into WinMo 7 but for the time being, cool "Iphone-esque" animations can be acquired by using SPB mobile shell. It doesn't necissarily have the same sliding animations, but it does give you a carosel(sp) and shifting block menu animations. Sorry I can't post screen shots, I just recently removed it cuz I couldn't get the weather to work right LOL. But aside from that... You can take one or the other and at the risk of sounding overly cliched, you can't have your cake and eat it....
On a side note... We were having Palm Pre training, and my trainer was bashing the Iphone left n right. It was actually pretty funny. He referred to it as "nothing more than a glorified paperweight for the A.D.D. generation incapable of performing any task without the use of an application". I felt pretty stupid tho cuz half of the applications he was talking about I have on my Touch Pro. Hehehe....

I've used SPB for some time now on my Loox and I enjoy it very much. The new 3.0 is a great piece of work but like you mentioned it is still buggy.... The thing that gets me are the graphics! Why don't they develop skins for the shell??? You, I, he, they all have different likes and dislikes and ideas on how our systems should look and feel. If SPB would design a more user friendly version of the Shell it would definitely end up on everybodys mobile.

What i miss is the scrolling from the iPhone OS.
You know, if you are in the settings or browser app and start scrolling until the end, it's like a smooth finish in the iPhone OS.
Anyone knows if that's possible to integrate in the Android System?
I don't have any coding skills, therefore i don't know if it's complicated to implement.

I've just watched several videos, but seems I didn't run into this feature or I just didn't notice it.
I personally think that contacts-list-like scrolling in Android is just perfect, I can't imagine anything better. I could select an item from list of hundreds of items (music app) in ~5 seconds
I think what he means is that the scrolling doesn't instantly stop when you hit the bottom, it goes beyond about 10-20 pixels and then springs back.

The iPhone has very nice scrolling, I think Androids improved in froyo but there is still that resolution/quality change when holding down to scroll of course those who are lucky enough to have never spent much time with an iphone dont really notice this as a shortcoming . But I think op wants the desktops new bounceback feature to be throughout the ui. Personally the issue I described is what I really hope gets smoothed out if anything; I dont have preference for the ops request but maybe it would be cool if implemented...then again maybe I don't actually understand the ops request.

Maybe they just want to give people a choice? I don't like Sense, many people don't like it. Currently I could buy N1, you could buy Desire and we both have, what we want. If such effects would be integral part of Android, I would have no choice.
I agree that stock Android needs a design upgrade (prob why 3.0 is slated to have a UI Refresh and they brought over that guy from Palm so obviously they are fully aware of it)
But as for the lil bounce back...to me it doesn't really matter.
I wouldn't bother trying to implement something like this until Google changes some underlying systems. Scrolling on the iPhone is definitely GPU assisted.

Um, excuse me, did I say slap Sense on top of Vanilla and be done with it? I said Vanilla itself needs a UI overhaul - it is plain, colorless, lacks design that would add to its overall "pop". And as the OP stated, it also lacks delicious eye candy such as physics. At least Sense tries to appeal to the user.. its shiny, well put together, and 'aesthetically' pleasing - its smooth and differs from Vanilla in oh so many ways.. it attempts to make users ah and ooh when they see it perform.. and no, I am not running Sense on my Nexus, while I easily have the choice to so, it hasn't yet been graced by Froyo..
Hopefully hiring Palm's UI designer will somehow better Android..
Do you mean overshoot like in the ADW launcher? Where it goes a little past the edge and bounces into place?
Kenetic snap back would be nice. With a touch screen there is no tactile feedback so visual indicators like that are quite helpful. It really feels a lot more natural than an abrubt stop at the bottom of a list. I've noticed that some parts of the system are slowly starting to add effects like that. The new launcher in 2.1 does it, and the 3D gallery does something similar as well.
There are a lot of little things about the iPhone UI that you really don't notice until they are taken away. But I don't agree that great UIs are not Google's thing. Every Google web product is super slick and simple and their chrome browser is as well. I think they are just focusing their efforts on other areas first.
If you read some of apple's patents, the kinetic snap back is patented by them so that's probably why nobody else implements it.
Does anyone know if Google is planning on actually eventually using the GPU to accelerate the UI? Looking at Iphones, I get jealous of the super smooth scrolling and can't help but be annoyed by horrible flash scrolling. Thanks for the Flash Google, but please actually USE the hardware I paid so much for!
I'm using ADW Launcher and my scrolling is perfectly smooth.

Well... If youre using the Stock-ROM with Stock-Launcher i believe thats not super-smooth.
Iam using CM6 with LauncherPro and just like the Guy above me wrote: I've never seen a phone which is faster and smoother like this. Just today a good friend of me with iP4 was impressed about this.
I think he's talking about all scrolling, with which I agree, something may be doable about it. Not sure where one would go about to do that though,
Smooth
Yeah I'm using Launcher Pro which works fine, but scrolling webpages...and sometimes pulling up menus and yes...even launcher pro sometimes doesn't scroll so smoothly with a live wallpaper. It just seems silly to have our main cpu doing all this work when the gpu is just sitting there. PS. if you think the nexus scrolling is smooth go look at the scrolling on an Iphone, it is a thing to behold.

This is why nobody likes you. I've used iPhones, they scroll better
Anyway, launcherpro is very smooth. I thing android phones should be a lot smoother though in stock form. I understand relying on 3rd party development to a point. But scrolling should have been taken care of by android. But android puts stuff out fast then works on it, as long as they intend to improve it that's all I ask.
lol.. iphone hater.. personally i like both.. i prefer iphone games, music/video player, keyboard but i prefer the freedom of android..
i was thinking of galaxy S.. damm it is so much cheaper then when i got my Nexus one.. maybe i should swap for it..
I'm not just talking about home screen scrolling, I'm talking about ALL menus, web browsing, the app drawer, etc. You need to calm down and admit that having a gpu and not using it for rendering graphics is stupid. Any updates? Is gingerbread supposed to implement a GPU accelerated UI?
And from all places, what makes you think that here you'll find an official answer, when there are no Gingerbread highlights available to the public yet?
Sometimes I'm amazed by the easiness with which people press the "Post" button, just to avoid actually doing something to find out the answer to their question.
What a clown
Do you really need to respond like that? Really? What does that accomplish? I did a quick google search for gingerbread updates and came up empty regarding this topic. Try Opera Mobile (not mini) for smoother web scrolling. It's not hardware accelerated yet, but it zooms and scrolls an order of magnitude smoother than the stock browser. It will get hardware acceleration soon, as that is one of their key advertised features. The next beta of Firefox Mobile will have it as well.
There was a rumor a while back that 3.0 (which at the time was thought to be Gingerbread, before we found out 2.3 would be Gingerbread, that there would be a hardware accelerated UI. The basis of this rumor was that the next UX would be similar to that of the Gallery 3D appilcation.
The reason you came up empty is because there are no Gingerbread specs available, not even highlights. You know, it's Google behind the OS, if you run a search for specs and you see no official info - means there is none.
And perhaps the reason for reacting like that is that this thread is "only" no.23947659234 Gingerbread thread, while there is absolutely no real information available, and it gets really annoying that the forum is full of speculations and misinformation.

Stop being jerks guys.
Honestly, GPU Acceleration would be fantastic...although CM is doing a great job making the N1 very smooth (and probably other ROMs and kernels) it would still be nice to have such a feature...even just to show off to my iPhone 4 friends haha
So I just recently got my Fascinate, since I refuse to switch to AT&T... And the app market is great and all, but it seems a bit lacking.
All my friends with iPhones are playing **** like Katamari, Wordle, Robo Rush, FASTAR... And all the productivity apps seem to be so damn polished on the iPhone. I feel like I'm kinda missing out.
What can I do with my phone, or what apps can I get, to fill that void?
(Alternatively, we could just make this a "must-have Android apps" thread)
just depend on what you are looking for. there are some great apps that are out there you just have to look, look, and look some more. if you are new to android i suggest first downloading launcher pro, then homeswitcher to switch to launcher pro as its much faster. explore the endless customization options and apps and widgets and once you figure it out your friends will be on a iPhone forums saying "kinda jealous of android" trust me i *was* a ong time iOS lover and would NEVER EVER go back. **** Jeve Stobs and his gay ass black turtle neck. LOL JK.

As an exiphone user I agree... but you also have to look at the fact that the iPhone has been around and more widly used the the Droid. Give it a bit more time and I bet the makert place will have a bigger selection. Droid is opensource which means a lot more room to make more custom content. IMO

I agree. I'm on AT&T w/ the HTC Aria. Had an iphone 3g, sold it and got an android. Never looking back at iphone. I do have ipod touch which I wifi tether to my aria just for games and podcasts. But its being used less and less since android is getting better and better!
try appbrain. it helps to sort the trash from the clusterf*ck android market

Another Gir! Sweet!
And x2 on the appbrain comment. Now you can sort by popularity, rating, etc. It is everything the market should be.

Hello guys and girls,
I recently went from an htc desire to iphone 4, it was like going back in technology. sure, the screen is awesome and the design is good, but at the end of the day it's like an ipod itouch It's boring, now desire was fun to play with. I never got bored of it. So, if anyone thinking about going from desire to iphone 4 it's not worth it.
Well, Apple sucks, that's a given; but please give a list of the things you don't like about it.
It's nice to have some more fodder for later arguments about WHY Apple sucks...
There are many reasons that i dislike about the iPhone, these are that come to mind. First, the check board in safari is really annoying, like on android i never got any checker boards, while scrolling up faster even when the page was loading. Next, is the row of icons is just plain and too simple... Another is having no adobe flash and no click toggle. I read Manga and the manga readers in app store suck...
I do like the built quality, I hope more android devices are built without getting a plastic feeling.
No matter if it´s 2, 3, 3gs or 4 all are the same sh....t
It's good to hear that you value Flash. So many iPhags want to say that they don't need it...

Well, it's not great build quality with all the broken glass iPhones all over. Have you touched the G2 yet? It's incredible. My TP2 was a great build, but the G2 is a thing of beauty. Only more greatness to come from HTC.
People have made weight such a big deal over the years. Like your phone is going to anchor you when you dive into water. Why is weight such a big deal? What difference does it really make? I would love to have a hardcore metal design rather than cheap light plastic.
android is an open source and that makes it so powerfull thus you can transform it anyway you want..

I'd switch to Android no problem if they came out with an app that recorded every phone call.
