I been reading up a lil bit on this since the extended capacity sounds incredible, especially for HD2 users who have no real built in space.
and Wikipedia says SDHC compatible devices can use sdxc with UHS104 speeds, but not with the newer sd 4.0 specification.
Will the HD2 be capable of SD 4.0 with a firmware update or is this solely a hardware incompatability?
Hardware in HD2 will not accept it.

Well, unless installing WP 7.5 changes the hardware, that's bollox.
Does anyone know if a HD2 running WM6.5 supports 64GB microSDXC cards? As in has anyone tried it?
The HD2 can only handle up to a 32GB SD card. whether that would be SDXC or SDHC I'm pretty sure that wouldn't matter.

Good
Recognizes the HTC HD2 if micro sd 64 gb and I have a dual boot and I have not given me any problems
To be recognized only be formatted in FAT32

I ordered a 64GB micro-SDXC card from amazon.co.uk a week ago for GBP45.39 (found on HotUkdeals). Arrived today (was listed as "usually despatched within 1 - 4 weeks"), h2testw confirms capacity, and works fine in my HD2 running WM6.5 (Energy ROM), which shows capacity as 60906MB.
I don't understand why so many jump in saying a 64gb card wouldn't work when they obviously haven't tried. i would assume that it work fine as long as its formatted fat32... Any android phone should accept 64gb cards as well. the only difference between sdhc & sdxc is the formatting Im pretty sure. sdxc is formatted exFat of something like that, but its easy enough to reformat anyway you'd like with a computer.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
I have the Sandisk 64GB microSDXC Class 6 and it just works as a 32GB Samsung Class 10. The Sandisk is just a little bit slower in Benchmarks but in my phone I can't feel any difference; besides of the double of space. ;-)
SanDisk Mobile Ultra MicroSDXC 64GB works
I installed the Tytung ICS build on a SanDisk Mobile Ultra MicroSDXC 64GB.
Works fine! Just needs to be farmatted in Fat32

YES you absolutely can run a 64GB microSDXC in an HD2. At least I can verify that with WM6.5.5. I am using the SanDisk 64GB class 10 micro SDXC card in my HD2. The phone does read the full 64GB and can access it all. You do have to reformat it first as it is in exFAT which can't be read. It needs to be formatted in FAT32. The kicker with that if you try to format in your PC, MS has deemed that FAT32 is 32 GB max and if you use the inbuilt format in any version of Windows, it will only format it in exFAT or NTFS. I also tried using a program called SDFormatter but it would not allow me to format in FAT32 either. There is a way to do it from a DOS command but... I ended up using EaseUS Partion Master Home Edition, which is a free program. It worked a charm, and was very fast as well, Then I xxcopy'ed my SD card contents onto the new 64GB card and installed it in my phone. Both my WM 6.5.5 and my SD Android 2.2 are working perfectly, though the Android may be just a bit slower now and then. Both my 32GB and my 64GB are class 10s. I use XXcopy to keep a backup of my SD card on my computer, just in case. I update the backup every couple weeks or if I have updated anything significantly (which seems to be all the time with Android apps). I am running Core Cell Evo v4.1 and CoreDroid v.08. Here are the links to Partition Master http://www.partition-tool.com/download.htm and XXcopy http://www.xxcopy.com/xcpydnld.htm
Here is a screenshot from my HD2 when it was booted into Android.
So very cool, and now my HD2 in both WM 6.5 and Android modes thanks you
128 GB ? OK, will be my next try, then !
I just received my SanDisk SDSDQUA-064G-U46A 64 GB micro SD XC card and been using it for three days now.
To make sure it will work flawlessly, just do the following :
- Use the phone formatting tool (it will format the card in FAT32)
- When restoring your data to the card, don't overwrite the "Application Data" folder nor the "EncFiltLog.menc" file that will have been put on the card root after formatting.
- Check it's Ok by launching an SD android ROM. If you can browse the memory card's contents, you win. Else, just try again from the beginning !
Anyway, both the HD2 and Windows Mobile are fully SD XC compatible, at least up to 64 GB (really NEED to test for 128 GB now ! ), so don't trust people saying they're not !
maybe you can try to partition the SD in multiple partitions of 32GB each... so you can easily use a fat32 file system.
just one question..do is possible to use a 64gb ntfs? Because my SanDisk 32gb class 10 uhs1 is formatted using NTFS and works really well, so I think you could be able to use a 64GB NTFS formatted
I don't think so.
Windows mobile doesn't recognize NTFS (should have been an add-on, if only developpers hadn't stopped producing for this platform), and Android is Linux (Debian) based, so would rather use ext2 / ext3, and of course, FAT and FAT32, that fortunately stay the common links between all worlds...
Edit : Wait, is your card really NTFS formatted ? Windows should automatically choose FAT32 when formatting up to these sizes. I hadn't heard of Windows Mobile being able to read it. It can't read an USB disk in NTFS from Cotulla or Zeno Sloim USB host driver, for instance.
I even tried to format EXFAT32 on my HD2, with no luck. So FAT 32 only, but din't lost room in the process of formatting 64 GB in FAT32. My 32 GB card was almost full, and I earned a full 32 GB storage, so there's no visible cluster waste.
It's even much faster than the old 32 GB card (I bought one of the first that came available form Sandisk), despite the larger volume and allocation tables.
Highly recommended upgrade for people lacking room... It's totally stable, fast and reliable.
Now your idea to format in 2 chunks is good too. Anyway, Windows Mobile could manage them, so why not ? Maybe to be tried when 128 GB cards will become available !

eh? that's worrying, I've an 8gb one coming this week!
8GB Sandisk working perfectly in my Uk T-Mobile Touch Plus. No issues seen at all with it.
Well... My problem here is... Is it the Flash Card that is ****ed up or is it that I have the only Touch Dual in the whole world that doesn't have the capabillity to read 8gb Micro SDHC cards.
I have used a storage tool program to figure out the cards specs(Computer can't read it through the SD adaptor for some reason) and here is what i got:
Total: 1.8 GB
Type: Fat16
Sector Size: 512 Bytes
Cluster Size: 32 KB
For what I know, this should be a Fat32 because Fat16 can't have storage space beyond 2 GB.The rest I don't know because I haven't researched this enough to get a science degree. I have tried to format the card to Fat32 with several Cluster Sizes with no result in getting a bigger storage space.
At some point this seems like a 2GB but on the outside it looks clearly like an 8GB card. So if this is a fake, then it is a pretty damn good one.
What do you think?
slight aside, but madly, i have to pick the card up from the post office depot - how BIG can that parcel be??!!
I've been using an 8GB Sandisk card in my Niki (borrowed from my Kaiser) for a week now. Works fine ...
yup, finally got mine, and no issues!

You have to format the card at FAT32, which goes at 32 Gb. With FAT16 you only see 2Gb.
I don't know if you can do this format in the HTC, otherwise you'll need a new reader for sdhc-cards.
Thank You... I got a New SDHC reader/writer and formatted the card with the Panasonic SDformatter from a link through this forum. It worked and I now have my delicious 8GB storage in my Touch Dual.

Oddly enough, I'm having problems even with 1 and 2 gig cards. Or rather with active sync, not detecting them. I can't transfer files directly to storage card folder via activesync, I have to either transfer to the device first and then from the device to the card, or transfer directly to the card after taking it out of the nike..
It might be something simple, anybody has any ideas how to solve this? Searched for quite a long time and couldn't find anything..
It's an orange brand niki if that changes anything, btw.
well if any 1 wants to save i found a 8 gig for 37.99 plus shipping

I was wondering if this phone supports micro SDXC cards? it would be nice to pop in a 64GB card. I keep running out of space on a 32GB micro SDHC.
Not sure about that but...
What I do when I run out of space is find out what flashable zips I'm currently using and keep those. Then I put the rest of them onto my computer in case I need them later. No need to keep every single zip I've ever used on my SD card.
Also GoogleMusic saves a lot of space that would normally be taken up by all my music.

From Wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_Digital#SDHC_and_SDXC_compatibility_issues
"SDHC and SDXC compatibility issues
In the 3.0 specification, the electronic interface of SDHC and SDXC cards is the same. This means that SDHC hosts that have drivers that recognize the newly used capability bits, and have operating system software that understands the exFAT filesystem, are compatible with SDXC cards. The decision to label cards with a capacity greater than 32 GB as SDXC and to use a different filesystem is due solely to the limitations in creating larger filesystems in certain versions of Microsoft Windows.[citation needed] Other operating system kernels, such as Linux, make no distinction between SDHC and SDXC cards, as long as the card contains a compatible filesystem.
SDHC and SDXC cards and hosts have these compatibility issues:
Existing SDHC hosts will only support the SDXC cards at up to UHS104 speeds.[45]
SDXC hosts are backward compatible with SD and SDHC memory cards.[62]
The operating systems that support SDXC, as of 2011, are: Linux (with a proprietary driver for the exFAT filesystem),[63] Microsoft Windows 7, Windows Vista SP1+,[62] Windows XP SP2 or SP3 with KB955704,[64] Windows Server 2008 SP1+, Windows Server 2003 SP2 or SP3 with KB955704, Windows CE 6+, Mac OS X 10.6.5 or later.[65]"

I believe the specs say max 32, but I'd love if someone would try it and see if it can read it. I'm really curious, and I'd love to offload all music to my phone and have it all-in-one, as my ipod's DB corrupts every few weeks and it's a huge headache, and it can't intelligently export playlists and etc.
64GB SDXC card works
I purchased the SanDisk Mobile Ultra 64 GB microSD Extended Capacity (microSDXC) Class 6 - 30 MBps Read . The phone didn't recognize it when I put it in and asked me to format the card. Once I did that it works with no problem. I got 59.46GB usable space after that. The phone sees it as sdcard-ext. The SD tools app shows the speed at 6.1 MB/s write speed and 20.9 MB/s read speed.
Ditto, haven't done a speed test with it, but rocking 57 gigs of music on here with a couple gigs free.
Just picked one off of amazon, here goes nothing...
you guys are awesome, glad it can read. Buying one tomorrow.
Just got mine Saturday, works like a charm.
Tested and works for me as well. It did not recognize it as formatted when inserted initially, but once the phone formatted it, it is working fine.
So the question now is, why don't they spec it at 64 instead of 32 GB?

Anything over 32GB is SDXC.
Apparently from what I can garner, SDXC compatibility requires recognition of exFAT formatted cards. Android doesn't have exFAT support yet, and that probably is what's preventing them from branding the phone to support SDXC cards.
These are true 64gb chips, right? Not 32gb x2? I know there were some sd cards back in the day that read higher capacity but were basically two sd cards that interfaced as one.

64 GB does work but must be formatted natively first. "officially" they only support 32GB.

From Wikipedia:
Compatibility with SDHC
SDXC host devices accept all previous families of SD memory cards.[26] Conversely, SDHC host devices will accept SDXC cards that follow Version 3.0, since the interface is identical,[3] but the following issues may affect usability:
SDXC cards are pre-formatted with Microsoft's proprietary and patented exFAT file system, which the host device might not support. Since Microsoft does not publish the specifications of exFAT and its use requires a non-free license, many alternative or older operating systems do not support exFAT for technical or legal reasons. The use of exFAT on some SDXC cards may render SDXC unsuitable as a universal exchange medium, as an SDXC card that uses exFAT would not be usable in all host devices. Since the FAT32 file system supports volumes up to the SDXC's maximum theoretical capacity of 2 TB as well, a user could reformat an SDXC card to use FAT32 for greater portability between computers (see below). FAT32-formatted SDXC cards can be used in a host device built for SDHC if the host device can handle 64 GB and larger volumes.
SDHC host devices will not test the new capability bits defined for SDXC 4.0 cards. It will therefore not be able to use the new features of SDXC, such as transfer speeds above UHS104 (104 MB/s).

I have a corrupted new 64 GB Sandisk Ultra Class 10.
My advice is make a full search here in General and Q&A threads about SD Cards before buying, because a great number of Xperia users are unhappy with their incompatible / corrupted SD Cards, especially the SanDisk ones.
Definitely Sandisk (the ultra)I use them in all xperias, no issue so far altought I don't use the 64Go it's too big for my use, 32Go is enough.

Based on my experience, here is the rank I suggest:
1) Sandisk 2) Toshiba 3) Kingston 4) Transcend
...and I also strongly suggest, only choose between Sandisk and Toshiba.
Am currently using a Sandisk 64GB on my Z for media like songs and videos, which I carried along from my Note (my very first android; then followed by Ion / V / TX) since day one, and a 32GB one for Titanium's and NAND backups. Both never encounter any problem... so far.

Put it straight in the phone and it will do it all for you.
When I bought my Sandisk 32GB and 64GB, both were formated with FAT32 out of the box.
Problem with FAT32 is that it won't support over 4GB a file.
If you have no intention to put over 4GB a file (like video) onto the card, you can just leave it as is and use it right away without doing anything.
If you're planning to put over 4GB a file onto the card, format it with exFAT with you computer by using a card adapter. XZ can read exFAT natively since 4.2.2.
You can also format your card with NTFS. Like exFAT, it also supports over 4GB a file. However, XZ can't read this file system thus you need to root and install a third party app like "Paragon exFAT, NTFS & HFS+" in order to read.
My suggestion is, use exFAT, since it's more versatile, and is natively supported.

Just insert the card and the phone wil format it automaticly. Then transfer files to it with a cardreader

I just said that officially it is not supported, not that it wont work. I also added i never tried, 32 is plenty for me. If a given 64 GB card is or isnt working might me related to allocation unit size. It is reasonable to think that if formated with the smallest possible all. unit size the system might not be able to address the whole card's capacity. I would say that even card's brand and class might be influential. All in all those might be the reasons why 32GB< are not listed as supported. I, myself would like to hear why exactly the official support lists 32 GB as max - from someone who knows and not guesses like me.
Does the 64 GB cards work at full speed? My 32 GB UHS-I works at: read: ~42 MB/s, write: ~14 MB/s
Ah, my bad, I interpret your 'Tried: No' as in 'Tried and did not work'.
For you to understand why 64GB is compatible you need to understand the differences between different types of SD cards and their readers.
The difference between SDHC and SDXC is not a hardware difference but a file system difference. SDHC is formatted in Fat32 and SDXC in exFAT. So hardware compatibility always exits on any SDHC compatible device. In our case android 4.0+ I believe it is is compatible with the exFAT filesystem so that is why it is possible to read and write to the SDXC card. Whether or not a non exFAT compatible android device (or other) would be able to read a 64GB SDXC card formatted in fat32(there are tools who can do this) I do not know.
Also for as far as I know any 64GB SDXC card is supported by the Xperia SP.
EDIT: Not all Android devices support exFAT, but it is supported, I guess that is why Sony does not 'support' exFAT officially, this way they do not have to garantee the workings of SDXC.
Read 25 MB/s, Write 12 MB/s. Enough for me, do not know if it is the max.

SDHC is formatted in Fat32 but by what? If you mean the native format you get it in - yes it is true. If you mean the phone default format file system - true again. If you mean the format it is possible to format in - i formated my card in exFat with no problem and phone runs flawlessly with it. No problems whatsoever, sd a1 bench even measured better read/write time then with internal storage (which i highly doubt and am skeptical about that, but that's just me).
So the true and compact answer i got somewhat right but the full answer as to why 32< GB card are not *offically* supported is:
Larger then 32 GB prefers exFat (due to Fat32 old and outdated addressing issue) to utilize it fully and mindlessly (user fool-proof, on fat32 you need to know that you need quite large sectors to address all of the on 32< cards), and exFat is not offically supported by SP? So... it will work as long as you know what you are doing... If you format a 64 GB card with some ridic small cluster size on fat32 you will only get what 28bit addressing will allow you to.
On the side note, i really suggest anyone to format their cards in exFat. I know it is by far not the best possible file format and is far from perfect but it has some upsides:
+ supports 4GB< single files
+ tests suggest it improves transfer rates quite a bit vs Fat32
+ has no issues with addressing the largest available capacities, no 32GB limit for support
+ does work on JB
Has still some issues:
- *officially* NOT supported by JB
- incompatible with many older win family systems, pre-XP (XP with no SP)
As well as many other details that are not as significant from user perspective, try wiki for more. ExFat seem the best available, somehow large scale compatible file format for mass storage devices (SD, pendrive).
Conclusion:
32< GB cards? No problem as long as exFat formated.

What do you expect? That what I am trying to say is that formatted in fat32 by turkey sandwiches or meatballs? Ofcourse out of the package, I guess we all know we can format storage carriers the way we want them to be formatted.
The only thing I told you is the reason so you might have an idea.

That is what this whole topic is about dude :cyclops:
Are you just having a hard time understanding or what ?
Im gonna format myself a meatball sandwhich hehe.
Being cocky, somewhat rude and overly sarcastic doesnt solve anything and is not really welcomed here in most cases. Dont treat other's the way you wouldnt like to be treated.
Some things that are obvious for you or me are not as obvious for all readers thats why i personally like to fill the details i am able to. Next time form your thought in more polite manner, i don't spend my time here i be made fun of.
PS.
Sorry for the offtop.
Thanks on all information
