Wifi disconnects when screen switches off - XPERIA X1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there anything I can do about it? I use a custom rom - cant remember which one - that runs win.6.5.5 ... I got an advanced settings prog under which I already chose that I dont want wifi to disconnect if there is no activity (thats the only wifi related option I get)
Any idea how I can stop wifi from disconnecting when the screen goes off? It makes conversations on msn impossible
thx

problem with T MOBLE WING
I have the same problem , I even did try connect to my home Wifi it show connected ,but doesn't open to the website I want to ,can some one help, thanks
I had the same problem, I installed batterystatus, and checked the option to disable gprs when wlan is on, and now it works fine...
You don't need batterystatus to do this (the software just does it automatically for you), you can do it by yourself by disabling "data connection" in the connection manager whenever you turn on the wifi radio
-Hope it helps
t-mobile wing wifi problems
I had a similar problem with my wing. It would connect to unsecured WIFI networks and work flawlessly but when I connect to a secured network it would work for about 1 min then just hang while downloading a web page. If you device is doing this send it back to t-mobile and get a new one. This is what I had to do. hopefully you have a warranty.
I just got my T-Mobile Wing and I think I have the same problem. It just doesn't want to work with my WPA-secured Wi-Fi. When I switch WPA off, it works fine.
Did anyone else had a problem like this?
Called T-Mobile, they have nothing like that in their knowledge base.
I got this problem when i installed HTC 10 Button comm manager. I uninstalled it and WiFi works again.
Hope this helps
i have somewht of a similar problem, since ive had my Wing i have been unable to use my wi-fi, when i turn it on it says connected and shows me the lil meter and everythin but when i try browsing or downloadin it just hangs and does nothing until i turn the wi-fi off...i have no clue why i have learned to live without it but would appreciate any help...thanks
Try this it work for me. Whenever you want to connect to secure wpa do this before you make the connection
Start > Setting > Connections > Wifi Status > Power Mode > Move the slide "Best Performance"
Your wing should be able to connect to secure wpa.
Hope this help.

i dont know how i ever survived without wi-fi....WOW....thank u
Thank Ayodeji13. He answered this in the 5th post. ^_^ But, yea, I've done the same thing before and was lucky to realize where the problem was coming from. Unfortunately, it didn't help me with the crappy wifi signal that my Wizard provided me. The wing, on the other hand, is MUCH better at this.

Thanks mate... I too was having issues connecting to wifi... its kind of strange... it was connecting to my home network for sometime but later it suddenly stopped. It will connect to other networks but not to my secured network. Today I tried the setting you mentioned and surprisingly my phone connected to my home network... I wonder why because this setting should improve the performance and not the connectivity itself... Thanks again
you can add me to the list of people with wifi issues. I can't connect to my wireless router and I'm stand two feet away from it. It shows up but when I try to connect it says unavailable. I've done everything from turning the data off, to setting the power to best performance but it won't connect.
I need help... Whenever I connect it says I'm connected but actually I'm not. Yesterday I could view directions using live search but couldnt browse the web, not i cant do both. it gets stuck on the locating... part of loading the website. sometimes it gets to opening but the KB bar doesnt come up and it gives me some 500 internal error, or page doesn't exist. I cant do the best performance thing because im using touch it 2.3 rom and i dont have wifi status anymore.
WHY DO YOU HAVE TO REMOVE THAT STUF?!! URGH! I dont even have msn!
But anyways, can someone help me connect to the internet?...
TRY THIS
I have the same problem, i i manage to fix my wifi connectivity by editing the registry.....try this at your own risk.....but swear it works for me. i used total commander to edit registry and go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > HTC > Comm Manager >
then you will see folders 0 - 8 or some only have 0 - 7 ,delete folders 6 and up ........ ( I JUST MOVE MINE instead of DELETING IT< I MOVE IT TO STORAGE CARD SO IF SOMETHIN GOFF UP I CAN JUST PUT IT BACK )....
SOFT RESET then try turn your wifi ON , connect to your network.... til me if this works for u guys...
i think the value of those folders are bum hehehehe thats why it wont connect......., after connecting to your wifi secured or not , it will create another folder and add those folders back by default...but this time the good settings lolz its worth a try !
Ok this is realy frustrating. My wing was getting on my secured home network and npw it dose not. I read all the post and have tried some (the ones that I could understand). I dont have the option under battery status to disable gspr or gpsr. And my system is vista 64 so total commder dosen seem to work for reg settings(edits). I can conect to unsecure networks but I cant to my hone (secure) network. I have in the past but it dsent ssem to work now?

Internet connection still stays connected??

Right i dont know if this is a bug or its just the way the Diamond is but i go to connect to the internet via opera...everything is fine and it connects via HSDPA. But when i close opera down...the connection is still alive ie doesnt disconnect automatically, i have to manually do it myself which is going to be a problem as i wont remember most of the time and im pretty sure the battery is going to be dead the longer i leave the connection as it is.
So is this normal??..reason i ask is with my nokia n95 i connected to the net but when i closed the browser down...the connection died as well ie disconnected automatically.
If this is normal is there anyway i can change an option that will close the connection as soon as i disconnect from the net??.
Again sorry for asking but its puzzling me as to why it would keep the connection alive even if i wasnt using the net...
Anyone help?? or is it just the way it is??.
I noticed the same thing -after coming from an iPhone and an N95.
Just go into the connection manager and close active connections after use. Its a pain, but an easy solution until someone suggests something better!

Yes, it's "normal".
You need to press the "end call" button, or configure it using the setting application to drop the data connection, or use the command manager to switch off the data connection, or use advanced config program to set the data connection to end after some minutes.
Well the way i figured it out is by using the long press key function, ive mapped it to my call end button which if i press for a few secs..disconnects me from the data connection.
I was hoping that there would be an option where you could specify when to kill the connection off ie after 10 mins of idling...ive been looking through the settings etc and cant seem to find anything...neither can i find anything in the advanced config program either other that gprs auto attach which ive disabled...

Using 'Advanced Config' you can drop the connection after xx minutes of idle.

Rom 1.93 Bugs Hotmail and Keyboard

Bugs with 1.93 (asia) wwe
Hotmail does not like to connect via WiFI, always get connected or established GPRS/3G using phone data despite wifi is on. No problem using live messenger or using other pocket explorer / opera over wifi. So baffling. Hard reset but still remain. Anyone has the same problem?
secondly, the keyboard (full QWERTY) sometimes appear with different font. I will try to upload somephotos if i managed to see that again.
Actually i have the same issues, sort of. Wlivemessenger sometimes just won't connect over 3g/hsdpa but hotmail works like it should.
About the keyboard, that's a weird one, had noticed it before often enough. It goes away when switching to compact qwerty and then back to normal qwerty.
Oh and i have it on me dutch 1.93 rom.
I have als noticed a bug:
If you start the Calendar from HTC-Home, it always start in the "Agenda" view no matter if you have selected another view in the Calendar Options (like Day-view).
I too have noticed a lot of bugs with the Europe 1.93 ROM, on my phone the tasks program is not listed anywhere not in programs. Tasks is on the device luckily I'm using Agendus. Can't say I'm very impressed so far, it's definately quicker, but what on earth made them put the Video Call option on the phone.

hard keys not responding!!!
Hi ... after upgrading from 1.37 to 1.93 rom
- everything was ok for about a day.
- after trying to configure manualy the 3G settings the "answer key", "back key" and "hang up key" stopped responding.
Other possible reasons for the problem could be:
-sync with vista without deliting the previews syng settings for the same device.
-Windows_Mobile_Desktop_6.1 (not sure but everything started after I installed that app....)
I did like the speed of the 1.93 Rom but I'm going back to 1.37 which is at the HTC site for Europe until they release something new.
Any ideas or suggestions!!!!???

Any way to change it? Perhaps with a reg-tweak?
on my 1.93 rom i can hardly connect through wifi anymore.
when i turn on my wifi it finds my wireless connection and logs in for about half a minute an then loses the signal.
after that it can't even see my wifi anymore.

I got exactly the same problem with hotmail and my french official HTC 1.93 ROM. Everything works, even WLM, but not hotmail synch , if I am not connected before to WLM.
Tried to install an older version of WLM, but it breaked more again, so I'm good for a reflash. I will test hotmail by wifi before making any tweak to see if it comes from the rom...

I played with all these parameters.
You can effectively make hotmail synch by wifi working great, but then you have no GPRS/EDGE/3G data so when you don't have wifi access, you have to rechange these settings.
In the previous 1.37 rom, wifi was always prior to edge, even to synch hotmail.
Sorry for my poor frenchie english
if you have these correct it should connect via wifi when available wifi and 3g when you have no

It should, yes, but it bugs. But all other programs work perfectly : wifi when available, Data network connection if not.

I've made an Hard reset and the problem is still the same.
With your solution, it still wants to connect throuth 3G/EDGE.
I realy thinks this is a problem with 1.93 ROM, more exactly the WLM version built in.
I think that the hotmail sychro module of WLM, if launched alone without launching WLM (by doing SEND/receive in message manager), doesn't check if a data connection is already active and launchs automaticaly the connection witch is in the top dropdown box of the menu you told.
But when WLM is launched and connected first, it detects the wifi and use it, and then the hotmail module uses it too...
Everything worked "normaly" in 1.37 ROM.
I will reflash completely my diamond with 1.93 ROM to see, but I've got no hope.....
intersting problem.
The main problem i found with WLM in 1.93 is that it uses your "work" or "private network" connection to connect to the internet and not your "internet"
Nearly all other programe use your "internet" connection which is usually set up for internet (both wifi and gprs)
The "work" connection is default to "wap" connection which forces it to only use "GPRS" this makes you have the no wifi problem.
It is unusualy that now you changed your "private" or "work" connection to use "internet" that you still have this problem.
I have a french 1.93 ROM installed on a friends diamond and will investigate at the weekend and try to give better help to you.

Thank you.
The worst is that if WLM is launched first and connected, everything's fine. And if I disconnect WLM or close it, send/receive open a cellular data connection.
with wifi card netword setting to "internet" or "work", the issue is the same.
I'm going to reflash to see if it's a problem of rom install (don't think so but with chance...)

wi-fi on/off automatically?

is there a way if any program needs connection the wifi to turn on and after exit of the program the wifi to turn off (not waiting 2-3-4min if there is no usage to turn off then)?
I have turned off the wifi for the battery life reasons, so when I need it any time I have to go into comm.manager and so on....
I'm actually using phoneweaver (not free), you can set profiles to switch on/off wifi at specific times. I can turn wifi on, but for some reason can't turn it off automatically, guess I'm a bit dumb to set it correctly, but it works for me.
there's another software called wifilocations (free), it seems to turn on/off wifi based on cell id's, haven't tried it but might work for you
I personally have set a hardware button to act as Wifi on/off (with AEBPlus) and just toggle it with a double press when I need it and when I'm done.
There is a wifi button on the keyboard (right arrow button)
True, I usually forget about that one. But then, I don't want to open the phone to turn Wifi on/off.
Prepare for something magical...
Ok so this isn't magical, in fact, it's just another .cab that you can remapp a button to, that's what I have done and I just toggle wifi on and off using it. Here is the .cab.
Somewhat related but does anyone know if it's possible to turn the phone off but leave wi-fi on ? If I'm at home, I want to have Skype running and receive calls like general mobile calls. Would also like to be available with Messenger too
C
Download KaiserTweak, it has an option to keep wifi on during standby.
Perfect thanks however .......
Anyone know how I can run Skype and/or WLM in background ? They seem to shut when I click X on them
C
Check you don't have a 3rd party program or HTC task manager set to "close" instead of "minimize" when tapping X.

problems with TD 2, pls help

hello,
I have just purchased the new TD 2, it is the first phone of this kind that I use (up till now I have only used Nokia Business phones)
Although I considered myself a person that knows his way around how to use a mobile phone, I was surprised to actually be forced to read the manual for the HTC TD2 - unfortunately the information in the manual is general and did not help me at all...
ok so here are the problems I hit:
1. For internet access I have activated "Vodafone Live!" packet with my network (Vodafone) - (internet works fine with no probs)
However, whenever I am near a Wi-Fi zone I would like to use that Wi-Fi signal to connect to the internet and NOT my "Vodafone Live!" setting.
I could find NO way to select how to use Wi-Fi and not the other preset network. (As far as I can see the phone still uses Vodafone Live! and not the Wi-Fi, although I previously manually connected to the Wi-Fi and I tested on my other phone that it is working...)
2. With my other business phone (nokia) whenever I stop using the internet page the phone disconnects (the 2 arrows disappear) but with TD2 I have the impression that even when I exit from Opera or IE the phone still remains connected somehow to the internet - how can I make it disconnect and not use the battery for no reason ?
The only way I found to manually disconnect it is going to START / Settings / Communications / the Push Data Connection button to OFF.
Is there any automatic way to do that whenever I quit the browser?
Thank you in advance for u`r help

The Touch Diamond 2 will use an active WIFI connection over your Vodafone Live! connection. If you are wanting to connect to a Public WIFI zone, then simply select the WIFI connection that you want from you list on the "Connect to Wi-Fi network" screen.

If this really bothers you there are applications dotted around here on XDA devs that will automaticaly disconnect your internet connection after a preset amount of time. That said though, just because the TD2 has a connection to the internet, does not mean that it is transmitting any data and does not use up any of your internet allowance and also it will not drain your battery that much.
Thank you very much for the explanations and u`r time!
Regarding the first problem above that is good news, although I don’t like it that I don’t have full control over it.
for example I’m going abroad next week for 10 days and I rly don’t want to use the Vodafone live! option as it will cost as hell
an option where I could be prompted and asked if I want it enabled or not - would have been great...
guess ill just delete it from the connections tab and reinstall it when I get back in my country - seems to be the only safe option.
One more thing,
Whenever I try to access a video-clip over the internet (using the IE not the Opera) the phone automatically directs to the program STREAMING VIDEOS program)
And here the clip ONLY works if I select to connect over “THE INTERNET” – why ??
For example if I go to Streaming Videos / Networks, I can find the following:
Vodafone Live!
Vodafone MMS
Mobile internet
My Work Network
My ISP
Work
Secure Wap Network
The Wap Network
The internet
What the heck are all those ??? I only know of “Vodafone Live!” - and the straming video does not work when I select it … it only works when I select THE internet (like I said above)
Ah, if you are going abroad or just anywhere that you don't want to use Vodafone Live!, there is a little application called "NoData" which allows you to toggle your data connections on/off.
Will edit this post once I find where it is again.

As for streaming videos, I've never used it so can't say.

Indeed, NoData is a handy tool.
What you can also use is the following one found on XDA-devs:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=503131
It will automatically turn off your data connection when you're not on your standard network.
It isn't perfect, but it works well and the developer is really listening to all suggestions and very active.
you guys are a pice of heaven
thank you again for all u`r help
question, this program NoData, also stops Wi-Fi data transfers or just network ?
thank you
NoData will only stop phone network connections. You will be able to use wifi as normal.
