backup + cooked rom - Touch Diamond2, Pure Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi guys, I have 2 questions:
1) I'm thinking of upgrading to wm 6.5. I didn't install them till now cause didn't like their look, but after seeing Cookie's Home Tab, i'm all out for them .
My question though is how i backup the Contacts' photos. I have already the contacts in Outlook, and the photos appear fine along with the rest contact info. Is this enough? I mean after the “format”, I will connect the td2 to the pc, syncronise and all the contacts will be loaded (with their photos) back in the phone?
2) I also thought of installing Leo's cooked rom NRG, since i see very good comments about it and appears to be the most popular. It's also compatible with Cookie's Home Tab.
I don't mind English Windows, but will i be able to write Greek in sms and rest applications? How can i enable a Greek keyboard like HTC's default (that comes with official greek roms)?
Thanks in advance

1. yes, contacts should be fine (u can also use PPCPIM backup)
2. just search or ask in NRG's thread.

- no wireless/comm manager
- some bitmaps doesn't look very well (not a big problem)
- strange names in Buttons settings
- no palm messaging (but maybe it's jus me)

thx to u next version will be faster then this (i belive)
i need port original applications form palm wm5 to more usable on this palm
1-2 days for it
i dont like palm messaging
original is better for me
I used default messaging for a long time (so called "lite" version of 6.1)
The biggest problem for me is comm manager and power button. Accidentialy I flashed again to your rom so I'll stick with this one now, try to configure it for my needs (it's just question of few apps to cure most of "problems").
Can't wait to see next version.
Best regards.

I would suggest using the Palm WM6 as a base for those apps, not wm5.

haven't tried the clean version, but on the new palm version, the soft menu is the old version and links like phone settings or today settings dont work. *have to use start menu*
also not able to connect to an exchange server. link to set it up in activesync seems to be dead.
red button, and wireless manager seem to work.
will check out the clean version as well.
edit: reset the phone. activesync, email, and exchange all work.
soft key bar still isn't like your first update *i assume it changed in 6.5, and this is the old version* and phone and today settings links in soft menu are still broken.
edit#2: seems the email account isn't listed in the accounts settings window. also at least one keyboard shortcut didn't work (whitebutton + P for brightness settings) i assume this has to do with the "weird" names programs have listed under buttons.
i want to update to 6.5 but is it possible to go back to orignal at&t oem rom afterward to will there be some problem....???????
help......??????????????

thx for test i repair it today
Just downloaded your rom, will let you know the details soon
Ok here is the review of this rom, the one with palm oem applications and commmanager,
Pros:
Fast and stable
Volume is better compare to 6.1
It has inbuilt mass storage driver which 6.1 lack
Shortcut are sorted in appropriate folders in start menu
Black Theme is default, which is very good
Display is better compare to 6.1
There are 2 flavour of Wmplayer
Comm Manager is now full functional
And More............
Cons:
Instead of green light to show the network now its showing orange,
Vibrate is not working
There is slight jerk in display while changing screen from one program to another
There is no Call screen, Mean when you are answering a call or had dialed a call you want be able to see the duration of the call.
Hi there, thank you very much for your great work. I have a quick question: My Treo has a German (QWERTZ) keyboard, will it be detected somehow?, or the ROM will asume its a QWERTY keyboard. I don't mind the OS being in English, that would even be better, is there a quick way to patch the ROM to make it work with the QWERTZ keyboard?
Thank you so much in advance.
About in call screen. It's all around ActiveCall and DialLookup plugins. Maybe changing some registry values will fix it (I had similar situations once and editing some registry solved my problems). Tomorrow I'll compare some of my keyes with working wm6.
-If your syncing to an Exchange server, the Manage Folders function does not work to be able to select addition folders.
-blank HTCSETTINGS icon under System.. appears to do nothing
- 2 PHONE apps under Personal settings. Different functions, but named the same
- There is something off with trying to go into Messages from the Today screen. Takes a few clicks to actually make it work. It doesn't do it everytime.
That's all I found for the moment.. obviously WLAN option does nothing on mine
I've noticed one more thing: there's no "white dot" indicating text input with active function key. It's a bit tricky when you try to type password and you don't see what you write...
But in general it works very well. But installing "hidelogo" caused reset loop and I had to hard-reset.
Great work!
EDIT:
Change HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Today/Items/"Dial Lookup"/Type from 4 to 6 <- it will fix active-call-screen-problem Works for me.
i build new version today with all palm applications and battery test show me 14days
it is quickly then last version i upload it soon
it need some small fixes

Best ROM for running SPB mobile shell?

I ran my X1i with stock ROM for a few months after purchase, and I liked the bundled SPB panel a great deal - never used any other panel, actually. However, the phone would get pretty slow, especially with stuff running in background (FortiClient, Opera, etc). Last weekend I decided to flash to a custom ROM - looked around this forum for a while and decided that Gen.II Light is probably the best fit. HardSPL'ed the phone and flashed the ROM without issues, bought SPB Communication Pack, got everything set up, and then ran into several problems, main one being that SMS stopped working. I can see new SMS notifications, but they don't show up in Outlook. Other issues include YouTube videos being unwatchable (framerate is about one per 3 seconds), and included HTC-branded Opera not being able to zoom out.
So, I'm looking for a ROM with the following characteristics:
1) Light and barebone. Specifically, no panels (don't need them), and no TouchFLO (don't like it, going to use SPB shell anyway)
2) WinMo 6.1. Would love to go 6.5, but the Hebrew MUI that I have (Eyron) doesn't support 6.5 yet. However, if there is Hebrew support for 6.5 somewhere (I don't need Hebrew interface, just ability to read Hebrew messages/appointments and type in Hebrew) I can consider it.
3) Working text messaging and video drivers.
Does such a beast exist?
See sticky ROM library for all available ROMs, but maybe Jack's lite is what you're looking for:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=495708

I just bought a TD2. Questions

1) Landscape isnt working in HTC's threaded messaging, notes, microsoft word, event input, etc. I tilt my phone and nothing. The only landscape that seems to be working is when i create a new text message with WM's SMS.
How do i fix this?
2) The phone feels sluggish. I just got it out of the box. So i want to upgrade it/flash a rom?? (im new to this thing). I want the new manilla (with the contacts tab in grid form), I'm interested in Dutty's rom thing,
what do I do, or what do you recommend me do?
Is it possible to screw up my phone?
Thanks
edit: making a new topic due to new inquiries.

I am offering $30 for simplistic, custom clean 6.5.x WWE ROM

To all the Blackstone chefs. I am offering a donation of $30 thru PayPal for a very simplistic, custom clean WWE ROM. If more chefs are willing to build this I would donate the second two that I like best consolatory prize of $5 for encouragement of their efforts.
Normally I wouldn’t bother other people with this kind of task, but my own efforts at using the kitchen in all of its incarnations have failed miserably.
I suspect that quite a few Blackstone owners would appreciate this kind of ROM.
This is what I want:
Requirements updated 16.02.2010
- Continuous work to resolve major ROM issues and bugs if found
- Windows Mobile 6.5.x ROM with the new interface – the large Start and OK/Close buttons on the bottom. It should use a black flat skin for the bottom and top bar, like this one:
http://i1006.photobucket.com/albums/af189/sleepyxda/Vintagescreentest.jpg
- It should use 1 row Start menu, like this one:
http://www.modaco.com/content/uploads/monthly_12_2009/post-497070-1261313195_thumb.jpg
- No Manilla/Sense or Titanium
- No Comm Manager (can be installed if needed)
- No FM Radio (can be installed if needed)
- No Games (can be installed if needed)
- No Internet Explorer (if possible) and no Browser of any kind
- No Microsoft Office (can be installed if needed)
- No PDF Reader of any kind
- No Calculator (can be installed if needed)
- No HTC Album (can be installed if needed)
- Default Windows Mobile Pictures and Videos should be present (I’m not entirely sure about this one)
- Camera App should be present (I’m not entirely sure about this one, is there an option to install later? are there alternative camera apps for Blackstone?)
- Internet Sharing should be present
- No PIM Backup (can be installed if needed)
- No Task Manager (can be installed if needed)
- No Quick GPS (can be installed if needed)
- No Phone Canvas (can be installed if needed)
- The Default Windows keyboard, no touch keyboard (can be installed if needed)
- 20 MB Pagepool
- USB to PC should be present, but no popup at startup (it is just too usefull to omit)
- Should have .NET Framework 3.5
- The ROM should be UC capable

I have cooked a ROM that came near to what you want.... but it's in German.
ht*p://w*w.htc-developers.de/viewtopic.php?f=87&t=5662
I think you need one in WWE.
I try to cook one for you...
Mark...
Yes, should be WWE and thank you.
Energy Android
Have you tried this? It has Harem installed which can be nicely ignored, but i believe it's desolate otherwise.....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=625330
Yes I have tried that ROM and there were some issues, I don't recall at the mment what it was. I will try it again and see.
So I checked again the recomended *Energy Android Super Lite ROM* and it just doesn't work for me for few reasons.
- It doesn't have the Start, Close/OK buttons on the bottombar.
- Atleast I couldn't disable the DualBoot app
- When changing the Start menu skin to make it 1-row, the Start menu stopped working, and the skin was OK in other ROMs
And here is some addition to my requerements for the ROM, that I just forgot to list before:
- The Default Windows keyboard, no touch keyboard (can be installed if needed)
- 20 MB Pagepool
- USB to PC should be present (it is just too usefull to omit)
- Should have .NET Framework 3.5
- The ROM should be UC capable
I'd be interested in this too, I'll keep an eye on this thread.
here is your rom:

let me know if you like it, and if you want something different, i will be your personal cooker
Well...Great! One thing though. After flash it wouldn't start and won't even allow me to Hard Reset. Thankfully I can still enter BootLoader.
Thanks for your work anyway.
base on your fist post, I think its best for you to buy a phone something
that does not resemble a windows based PPC.
i seriously think you'll attract more bogus people pretending to be a cook

I want a Clear ROM also
I know few ROM`s that are super cool i mean fast, stable and everything is fine the things i don`t like is ONLY that they have installed APPS that i don`t use and i never will use, so if someone can Edit this ROM`s i mean just to delate all APPs that i don`t need will save from the Main Memory and will be just perfect.

Let me guess - to you Windows based PPC meens Manilla, Internet Explore and Solitaire?
I would like to have options, a choise, and benefit from the rich treasury of Windows Mobile software. I would like to choose SPB Mobile Shell, PointUI, Androkkid, iFonz, Gsmart, rlToday, phoneAlarm, FreeStylWM, FEWidgets and countless other Today screen launchers, clocks and plugins.
I would like to choose a Comm Manager (there are different ones), use the Wireless Manager, or use the functions of a third party apps, PhonEx for instance.
I would like to choose which version of Internet Explorer to install or Opera 9.5, Opera 9.7 Beta, Opera 10 Beta, Opera Mini, Fennec, SkyFire, Iris Browser, UC Browser, Dorothy Browser (WebKit), Web Viewer, Maximus Web Browser, dedicated Facebook (or whatever) app or simply go radical and use only a RSS reader.
I would Like to choose if I want Ms Office 2007 or 2010, SoftMaker Office, pTab or just a notepad app.
I would like to choose Adobe Reader LE or Foxit Reader, Haali Reader, AlReader, PocketXpdf, PocketDjVu, CHMReader.NET or MobiPocket Reader.
I would Like to choose PocketCM Image Viewer, HTC Album, Resco Photo Viewer, XnView Pocket, S2V, Photoshop.com Mobile, NoniView or Image Explorer LE.
I would like to choose Total Commander, Voyager, Resco Explorer, Throttle Explorer or WinXplore.
I would like to choose Core Player, TCPMP, Pocket DivX Player, Kinoma Free Play, PocketMVP, Real Player, Mobile Media Center, PocketTV Classic, Nitrogen Player, GSPlayer, S2P, PocketMusic, MortPlayer, FingaThing, Pomod, WinVibe, YouTube app, MyPlayer, iPlayer.
I would like to choose scientific or simple or accountant calculator.
I would Like to choose my phone suite - Phone Canvas, PhonEx, Photo Contacts, Finger Friendly Friends, Contact Manager, Sunnysoft Contacts, Inesoft Phone, Yota Phone, Nektra Contact Manager, iContact+iDialer, Avatar, PocketCM, TouchCaller, QDz, SSContact, PhoneContacts, Minimal Dialer, o3touch, Aezy Contact or Full Screen Dialer.
I would like to choose my keyboard - SPB Keyboard, Resco Keyboard, Micron, VGA Keyboard, EzInput, PocketCM Keyboard, TouchPal, Smart Key Board, TapTap, Touch Keyboard, PDA keyboard, softKEY, FleXslide, etc.
See my point? I dont Want a HTC Phone or Windows Phone I DO Want a Pocket PC.
But hey, you can still disable Sense/Manila from the today and put the hell you want in your HD.
I don't get it, you just want to get rid all that things for what? To go to the Memory Settings and see that you have a looooot of free memory?!? For what?
It's like having a 8GBram with a 1TB disk computer and never use 100% it's of the capabilities...

No seriosly - it's not about that. Why have Manilla and all other kinds of software in the first place if you will use something else anyway? Now I don't get that. It's about a clean slate (Now that's a name for a ROM - Tabula Rasa).

Vario III/Kaiser - Quick Question - Plz see my last post

Hi guys,
My dad's handed me his Vario III / (Kaiser 120) to use.
I did a reset using the option in 'SETTINGS' to reset it and lose all date. Now, when I start it up, it looks like new and the time/date has to be set. All my dad's contacts have gone. Cool. - 1. Was this a Hard-Reset ?
I went to something like SETTINGS > INFO and got this:
Radio Vers 1.70.18.02
ROM DATE 9/01/08
ROM Vers. 3.31.110.3 WWE
Build 19212.1.03
When I start it up, it says Windows Mobile v6.1
A couple years ago, I loaded tomtom navigator on it for my dad. It was really good with the internal gps.
Anyway, now that I have the phone, I'd like to install tomtom navigator on it, use the camera (maybe 10 photos a week) and upload pics to my PC, and browse the internet (email, twitter etc.) from time to time. Also, I'd use the handset to connect via bluetooth to my laptop so I can use it for internet (in emergencies, as it is kinda slow). I also text (3-5 texts a day)
I also downloaded an app called Shazam.cab from a site called mobilism, which I would love to use as I have seen it on my lucky friend's iPhone and the app is awesome!
2. Apart from the usb cable, and active sync on my pc, do i need anything else to install shazam on my phone/micro sd card?
3. I assume a ROM means operating system? Like windows xp, 7 etc.
I see that people are putting new ROMs on their phone. My phone has
Storage Free Space: 121MB and Programs Free 55MB. There isn't a lot of 'bloatware' hogging up resources on there, as far as i can see.
4. Do I need to install a custom ROM now that you know my uses (in blue font above) for the phone? / do I need to flash it? I.e. will a new ROM/flash make my life a lot easier? Better to convert to android system? Will I need to do any of these things to install shazam?
I was goin to do this on the weekend so I can use other sims in my phone:
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334679
fingers crossed it goes ok.
Can you please help?
Thank you
Sonny
ps. I may need to ask a couple more questions after this. Once again thank you for your help. If anyone needs advice on cameras, please let me know as I am a regular contributor to a photography forum.
1. Yes, it was HARD-Reset (removes all settings, contacts, messages, ...). It doesn't do anything to the MicroSD card.
2. I don't know anything about that. Sorry!
3. Yes, ROM means operating system. There are stock ROMs and modified ROMs. For Kaiser (a.k.a. HTC TyTN II) you'll find only stock Windows Mobile 6.1 ROM and lots of modified WM 6.1 and WM 6.5 ROMs. There's no stock WM 6.5 ROM for Kaiser.
4. Android is not stable enough. Sometimes it crashes, doesn't wake up and so on... All your mentioned things can be done with both WM 6.1 and 6.5, so it's for you to decide what to use. WM 6.1 looks a little bit old and terrible, but it uses less resources than WM 6.5 which looks a little bit... like system that was made to be similar to iPhone OS. Yes, WM 6.5 is more finger-friendly, but the applications grid drives me crazy, it uses more resources (and loves draining the battery)
Thank you very much for taking the time to post. I found it really useful.
I stuck with original HTC ROM with 6.1 and I am loving it. Shazam works wonderfully well. The phone is so damn sharp. And, using 2 apps at once is brilliant.
Does anyone know if I can put more icons/apps on the TODAY SCREEN?
At the moment, I am only allowed to put 6 in the start menu screen, and 1 (tom tom) on the today screen.
My Start menu has: 1 File explorer, 2 organiser (i use the calculator a lot), 3 internet explorer, 4 MS word (for my notes), 5 shazam (use a lot), 6 Resco photo manager (for uploading to FlickR)
I'd like to add 2 more apps (wunder radio + core player) somewhere with quick access.
Any ideas?
Thank you
Try copying applications links (.lnk files) from \Windows\Start Menu\Programs\ to \Windows\Start Menu\
I'm not sure if it's going to work with Windows Mobile 6.1, but it's safe to try
