hey all,
I temporarily have access to a N1 with the ENG s-off SPL, and I'm wondering if anyone has an idea based off previous phones of how to dump it into a file as something useful.
I'll keep looking around but I thought I'd throw the question out there.

I believe we already have the engineering SPL. We just can't flash it. Really appreciate that you would be willing to do that, though.

Thanks, I actually updated the holiday phone from 0.33.2008 with this without a problem, still ENG s-off.

why aren't we able to flash it? Because we have non-holiday phones and they came with s-on?

It's the engineering nexus 1... aka, the phone with S-off... which allows you to flash any ROM even if it is not officially signed

S-On and if you look at the hboot size, they are different. Eng N1 is 768kb and Shipping is 512kb
Fastboot flash hboot hboot.img Do not flash to your boot partition.
what will happen if i try to flash the SPL above? or will i not be able to due to s-on?

you might be able to, but it will most likely brick your phone.

S-off and S-on : Security on and off (writing directly to nand or not) , most probably not SPL linked, S-on prevents you to downgrade.

I've heard people are looking for a way to relock the SPL on the nexus one, and to do that they need a copy of an original SPL. So I was wondering, and I am sure other android n00bs out there want to know as well, what goes in to dumping an SPL, or any image for that matter, and how come we can't dump the SPL that ships on the nexus one?
Just been trying and failing to use the new rooting method that doesn't unlock the bootloader, when I noticed that when in FASTBOOT & HBOOT, the first line of text reads:
NEXUSONE PVT SHIP S-OFF
Now, I am certain I had checked this before and it was S-ON, but I can't remember if this was before I had sent it back to HTC for a repair, or maybe it is due to installing the pre-release 2.2 update.zips?
Either way, is this of any use to anyone?
its S-ON for me and im on stock frf72
are you sure you dont have a holiday nexus (phones given to employees and special prelease testing)
If it was a holiday phone it would say ENG S-OFF, not SHIP S-OFF
Ps. This was in development a minute ago... I put it there for a reason lol
ATT band phone, rooted, 2.2, S-ON

Engineering phone & Holiday phone are not the same thing.
Oh, I thought they both had the 768Kb SPL?
Either way, mine was bought from Google in late Jan, standard battery cover and the SPL 100% used to be S-ON.
Is this really of no use to anyone? I thought it might be handy for the relocking bootloader quest?

well if you sent it in to get it that way...its not gonna help much since we cant make a full image of the phone. are u unlocked now? can you relock?
Ah didn't know that it couldn't be dumped, just assumed it could be after reading that some folks had got their hands on the ENG SPL. Guess this is a non-starter then. Bugger.
Also I can't be sure that it is down to HTC, but it's all I can think of that would have changed it.

My N1 is running stock build ERD56C with bootloader locked - HBOOT says ENG S-OFF.
My battery cover has the AndroidBug waving the flag with the link to the holiday phone game on it and my bootanimation is the one that's included in the latest CyanogenMod 6 release (you may have frequented those threads about that, I pulled the anim out of my phone and posted it on Modaco - not sure if it was my bootanim the cyanogen guys used tho?! link: http://android.modaco.com/content/google-nexus-one-nexusone-modaco-com/311351/build-version-erd56c/).
Anyway, I've been told by a few folks that I've got a holiday phone but I guess if I'm ENG S-OFF then it must be an engineering one? Certainly it didn't seem like my bootanimation had been widely seen before...
Question is, may my phone be any use in the quest to relock the bootloader?

it MAY be possible. I remember that we got a hold of the Engineering SPL for the G1 when one of the Devs got their g1 back with the eng spl still on it
Interesting.
Well if anyone knows what commands need typing to try, post away!
OP this may by the rumor about FRF91 fixing the non-unlocked rooting method that surfaced with FRF72. I cannot confirm this though.
Er, what's that got to do with S-OFF SPLs?
Ok so I have acquired another Nexus.
I want to know seeing as you can flash teh HTC Bravos Hboot file what would happen if you flash the holiday Hboot to a retail nexus?
Im going to do it seeing as nothing bad happens to your phone after flashing the HTC Bravos Hboot and seeing as the holiday nexus is the same phone as retail why would it harm my device? Makes no sense for another phones Hboot to work fine and the Nexus Hboot to brick my phone.
Any suggestions?
And should I do it?

Won't work since the holiday hboot is bigger then the retail one. So you can't flash it since it won't fit in.
i dont think should be problem since u can alter partition sizes through recovery i guess. I could be wrong though as i dont know if we can change hboot size through recovery
Sorry if this has been asked but i did search first...

Here is a tool that is in the Development thread you could try. It may not work with your HBOOT 1.16.0000, but it's worth a shot, right?

Go to revolutionary.io. You can s-off your device there.

Although OP did mention alpharevx, the alpharevx site now redirects you to the revolutionary.io site. On their documentation wiki, they state:
HTC Incredible S (vivo) 1.09.0000 and 1.13.0000
So apparently he has a newer hboot version.
Sorry for the confusion, but to clarify i did try revolutionary, but got to it from an alpharevx link, hence the confusion.
I got the same problem here, new IS from Virgin mobile in early this month..... no clue at all....
omg, can we please get a method to get it working? After hours of research and rooting and videos, I then noticed that I had to get "S-OFF", but now I can't do it because the 1.16 version is out.
I'm new to these forums, just basically want to find out an answer, if anyone wants to say something email me on [email protected] as I may not check but I will try to visit and check on it. I'm so excited to root it an install cyanogenmod.
I've got Incredible S on virgin mobile unlocked.
Bump!!!
Every day atleast twice a day I keep looking back at the revolutionary site to see if they have updated anything yet. I'm not sure, but apparently can I goldcard (changing my HBOOT) then I will be able to root... or..? cause it's on 1.16 which is not able to be rooted yet apparently.
Not too sure. So damn impatient!

Looks like they pushed a fix out with a new radio and base software. Good news!
Now just gotta get the optus rom on my phone and update it.
As for rooting your version, looks like your stuck until revolutionary release an update.
Does anyone know if it is a purely a radio problem? If not, if I restore the stock rom (nandroid) would it be possible to flash a custom kernel without screwing up my phone?

It seems as thought it's both radio and software problem.
Neo-X did you try loading the old Optus rom and then allow the OTA upgrade? Did it work?
I bought mine for mobicity then alpharexed it and using ARHD at present.
i guess installing the optus rom then OTA will remove the root.....

No i didn't try it. I just sent it back in to downgrade because i'm giving the phone to a family member and need it working 100%. Yes it will but i would have thought that if you use revolutionary before you do anything that not even an ruu will touch hboot and you will be s-off no matter what.
humm
i think this is more of a sense problem than anything as i have had the missed calls/delayed sms on the HTC sensation Incrediable s and wild fire s
on all of them turning them to 2g only fixes the problem
this is causing me to switch away from htc for now as it kiils the smartphone experience
So is anyone able to answer my question?
I have HBOOT 1.16.0000 and have S-ON
I want to make it S-OFF, but revoloutionary.io only does 1.09.0000 and 1.13.0000
Can I get S-OFF so I can root? Thanks

Does not look like you can for now. You will have to wait for revolutionary.
Since Hboot 1.16.000 is not supported by Revolutionary yet, I thought that maybe we can make a formal request via this thread.
Hopefully, the number of users with Hboot 1.16.000 is big enough to turn their attention towards the Incredible S Hboot 1.16.000.
So, how many of you want the - Inc S - Hboot 1.16.000 unlocked?
PS: If my idea seems out of line, you can just delete the thread.

My HTC IncS was manufactured in June/11.
My boot is H1.16...
I bought an XTC Clip. I receive today in my house.
I have HBOOT 1.16.0000 and S-ON.
no need to do S-OFF to put on custom ROM.
I got someone else to do it for me, he remote controlled my computer and typed in all the commands. I'm happily using cyanogenmod 7.
Sorry I can't tell you how to do it exactly, as I didnt do it myself.
If someone here knows a lot about fastboot etc, here is a few commands I think he tried to do. see if you can fill in the blanks.
First, unlock the bootloader at HTC dev site. you need to log in and follow steps. once that is done it will say s-on so don't panic!!! Then what he did is flash a custom recovery/bootloader so I can flash ROM'S and zips. I copied the ROM onto the root of the SD card and installed it using the interface and it worked.
When I did this it was *supposed* to work but it still did not boot. I couldn't boot any ROM's except a 'MiUi', but it was really buggy. So my friend got me to install cyanogenmod on my phone using the bootloader, he flashed the boot.zip from the MiUi to the phone and it booted up with cyanogenmod! Then he put back the previous boot.zip from cyanogenmod and it worked! dunno why, but something must've gave it a kick.
sorry if it's a bit confusing, but it is a long process and a lot of trial and error. be sure what you're doing. You do not need revolutionary hack to do it. ALso, everyone says you need S-OFF, this is not true, it only matters if you want to flash complex things such as RADIO's which are protected. But to access root files and to install custom ROM's it's fine.
Hopefully someone can fill in the blanks here and come up with steps on how to do it
good luck
