So uhm. I've been posting some stupid posts her latley, and, I'm sorry. Not to sorry, but yeah. So, back in the day, when I was what, 4? 5? They used to take apart their HTC Wizards and paint the housing. So I wanna do it to my G1... anybody wanna be rebelous with me??! And I'd like my G1 to stand out when I show my friennds Burr Burr Bursin and 3G-Speed Nissan. Anyway wanna do it? Let's go. PM or GTalk me.
[email protected]
And just so you all know, 3G-Speed Nissan has a Bronze G1 with a gold battery cover. (Is the gold part normal or did he buy it because I don't know.)
Burr Burr Bursin has a White G1 with a Body Glove case on the back as his battery cover and nothing on top. Also on the battery cover, there's a stand, but he removed it.
I really care about my G1's software, and at the moment, my black G1 looks amazing with HTCClay's SuperBad G1 ROM. Until FroYo, I think I'm going to leave it like this. So since we have software down, let's start working on the hardware right? They say the myTouch 3G is totally yours, but I think that the G1 is A LOT better and I really like modding my G1 to match my likings. So let's begin.
*UPDATE*
You know, not that anyone cares, but I can't do this. My mommy won't let. Sorry people who wanted to do it but are to lame and mean to reply.

I REALLY LOVE my G1 it's the best phone I have ever owned and the longest I have owned a phone. But it's starting to get scratched and beat up and the trackball was stuck so I had to take it out to clean which messed up the circle part in which it holds it in... I was looking to get a new phone or maybe just get a new G1.
I need help on pros and cons
I am deciding between
New G1 (Probably white, then customizing it.)
Mytouch (LOVE the trackball)
CLIQ (Might customize it)
Sholesssss
^That was meant to be in all caps but the forum doesn't allow it
STRANGE how the forum doesn't allow caps....
haha it did, never mind
stick with G1, it's awesomely fantabulous
well my g1 is pretty beat and my upgrade is comin up. i need some recomendations on a new phone. im on tmobile and im thinkin about the cliq since its the only one with a key board. i have big boy hands and the screen key board is a hassle everyone i tried at the tmobile store was a pain in the butt to use. is there any upcoming phones i should wait for that have a key board or is the cliq my only option
With Tmo? The Cliq is the only other Droid with a keyboard. The Nexus One (which I've ordered, so I may be biased) has a larger screen and is supposedly easier to type on.
For the record, I also didn't think I'd be interested in anything without a hardware keyboard... but the N1 caught my eye. Time will tell.
The Moto Droid is the best option with a keyboard. Might want to check out the GSM version of it - might work on T-Mobile 3G, but you won't be getting a subsidy contract for it.
I know you want a hard keyboard but... Nexus One.
iPod touch has a 3.5 inch screen, had it for a week and can type as fast as I can on G1 Hard kb
Nexus One has a 3.7 inch screen, just as fast with less mistakes, I bet
Gotta love when people listen, nexus this and that is all people waffle about.
Been looking to upgrade myself but screw the nexus and virual bloody keyboards! I want a keyboard plain and simple!
Google need to quit trying to be a fookin iphone! Looks like me and my G1 will just have to wait and see. There are a shedload of new devices coming with the android operating system so i'd sit back a few months and see what pops up.
Nexus can kiss my shiny white butt cheeks!
Almost pooped myself by thinking really n trying to conect WTF this thread has nething to do with development? Another thread to wreck the f up

My contract ends the 6th of june, so hopefully there will be a good phone with a hard keyboard out by then. I could probably use a soft one fine but, well, i don't want to Also, nothing about the nexus one really stands out for me. Yeah, sure, spec wise it's amazing, but the android it's running is just too similar to what i'm running on my G1 atm. I want something different tbh!!
I do like the look of the X10 though, shame it doesn't have a keyboard

i would choose the nexus myself...
Ive been considering getting an android phone for quite a while so im thinking of the g1 becuase it is cheap and it has a keyboard, what are your guys thoughts, i have a fuze right now.
Don't buy a g1. I've had this phone since november 2008 and I can't wait to get rid of it. You should spend the money and get a better android phone, such as the droid, nexus, or wait for the htc desire. You will definitely have a better android experience with one of these phones. Its just to much hacking you have to do to make a G1 good.

Yeah I would stay away from the Cliq. There are roms for it, but there isn't as much development for it as there is for the G1. You'll find it to be quite boring and it's stuck on 1.5. If it's a choice between the two, get the G1.
Lol... Its pretty funny how everyone is saying the G1 is bad and don't buy it. Give it a month, there will be something then the N1 and everyone's going to say, "Don't buy the N1 its such garbage." G1 is a good phone. It won't take you to the moon, but it's not bad. =] I personally have the myTouch. I honestly wish I would have got G1 for keyboard, though. That's another reason I hate the N1... Yea, it's sexy... but touch screen keyboards have proved to be nothing but trouble for me. Besides misclicking (which you get better at) they usually lag. Sometimes slightly - sometimes horribly. They're NEVER as fast as a physical keyboard, though. They also prove to be trouble for games or things that use a keyboard. Most have full touch screen support, but I personally like to use a keyboard to play a game if it's an option. That's just my opinion.
I bought one off eBay for under $200 and I love it. I don't see how any other phone is better than it right now. It was a five row keyboard, trackball, and with all the custom roms available, it fits every niche that I want.

Beat THAT!
HTC DREAM (people... please call it what it actually IS and not what it has been DE-branded to...) is a very flexible device. Perfectly capable of running the latest builds of android.
The problem that some people are having is that the manufacturer (HTC) has decided to stop supporting it. This is no different than what will happen with the GN1 or other android phones made by HTC.
And the main thing to keep in mind is that this is a PHONE, not a supercomputer. Does it REALLY NEED to be the latest super-duper over powered crazy thing? NO. It really doesn't.
DREAM is very well known, and hacked up the wahzoo. There is virtually nothing that you can't make it do. Right down to being jtag-able.
Fact is simple; if you want maximum flexibility in your phone (more important than peak performance), DREAM is the ticket.
Cool guys, thx for the advice i defintley think i am going to purchase 1 off ebay, but im thinking if i should get the brown/black or the white, i saw the white can get a few nicks on in but it looks nice, what do u guys have?

I would say overall that I am very happy with this phone.
Especially with the hacks and mods that I've done to it.
Its fast, stable and looks great.
I am more than happy with this phone, (Especially since I traded a Sidekick LX for it) I haven't been this happy with a phone in a while.
I used to have the HTC Excalibur and coming from Windows Mobile to Android is phenomenal, everything is so simple once you learn and get the hang of it.
So if you have the cash and you are curious just buy it and learn the basics!
Well worth it!
What attracted to me about this phone is that it is able to use the keyboard( hard keyboard is obviously easier to use) to type and gaming. Moreover, the phone is able to be modded and a variety of ROMs that might suit your style to choose from.
I would actually want to buy a second HTC Dream if I could. Seriously, if you really want to utilise your PDA phone properly, the Dream can do it all for you. However, if you really want high end gaming and more sensitive touch screen & proximity sensors to show off, then it's better to get the latest phone. I find that as it is, I am utilising only 50% of what the Dream is capable of. So I have been using it since last year and will continue on until I cannot do certain things that are important for work. Just my 2cents.
Coming from all different kinds of OS's, Sony, WM for many years, and finally the awesome Android OS.
Its hard to compete against it. I like the idea of a quality physical keyboard and screen. There is so much development and quality Rom releases here for our phone.
Devs know this and that is why they stay and keep doing what they do so well for all of us. Themers as well deserve much respect for their hard work and commitment.
Bottom Line: Buy a G1, you'll be hard pressed to find a better android phone at this time.
I have a Nexus one and was actually thinkin about going back to a G1, i've heard you can overclock the G1. I used to have a G1 but didnt like the battery life, anybody know if this was improved when its rooted?? Thanks in advance..
LOL I love the G1 too... But I wouldnt switch back to the G1 even if they give me 2 of those

that's like saying "should I go back to a pentium 3 or keep my i7 computer?"
But seriously, I messed around on my old G1 yesterday and now I wonder how I lived with it.
the rooted g1, and i'll even do you the favor of taking that n1 off your hands.

Why would you go back from a Nexus?! I was messing around on my old MT3G that I gave
to my dad (unrooted for him) and the screen is so small... it's also pretty slow.
I dont know why you would go back to a G1. the only reason i would go back is for all the cool roms that they didnt have when i had a g1. would be great to just test em out.
I've had my Nexus for exactly 4 hours and 6 minutes. I would not go back to my Dream/G1 if you paid me to.
Rooted Motorola StarTac. Amazing. I think that Cyanogen actually broke the code to go from Analog to Digital.
Going to be getting a new phone for my birthday this week. This will be my first ever smart phone. I have sprint and was wondering what the recommended phone was. The Sprint store has both the Hero and the Moment. The only diff. seems to be the full slide keyboard. From a total noob perspective can both be rooted and have hacked apps put on them. I didnt see a guide or section for the Samsung Moment thats why I ask. Anyways any help would be most welcome thanks again in advance for all your help
Wait 3 weeks and get the EVO. If you're impatient, get the Hero. Anything is better than a Samsung.
/End Thread
Also, please dont ever discuss "hacked" apps here. Its illegal and Xda and the community does not condone "Warez" here.

agreed. close the thread end of discussion.
If you can afford the EVO then you should wait. Otherwise, if you really can't put that extra $100 into the EVO then I say the Hero but I am biased. What I feel it really comes down to with these types of phones is what you state... the keyboard. Some people really need a physical keyboard and some don't care. That is the biggest factor in my opinion and one of personal preference.
Just remember you can bring the phone back in 30 days and get a different one if you don't like it.
Get the Hero and you will be able to go for the EVO when it comes out with Sprints 30 trade in policy. This way you can get used to an Android phone to start.
Do you want a keyboard or not??
also you might not want the evo because if you are in a 4g area there is a mandatory $10 a month charge.
Keep that in mind if you are considering that option. Supposedly if you are not in a 4g area then they don't charge you.

I was in a corporate store yesterday, asking that very question. I was told you pay the $10 whether or not your area has 4g. On the upside, I did put my name on the waiting list. You better believe I'll be there at 8am on 6/4 to pick mine up!
I went from having a blackberry to the Hero and I definitely miss having a physical keyboard. There are better keyboard apps you can get on the market that work better than the one installed on the Hero. Add a screen protector and it'll help your typing accuracy as well.
But, if you don't mind the bulkiness of the Moment then go with that.
Both phones can be rooted. You can find a lot of info on XDA if you put in some time.

thanks
I think I will try the Hero out and see if the not having the keyboard will be an issue. if it isnt that bad then with the evo and its larger screen then I think i will def be able to get used to it. the $10 a month isnt that big of a deal if it really is sooo much faster like they claim. I just want to say thanks again to all those who took the time to reply
hero vs moment
the difference is not just the KB..
Moment is Samsung and they do not support the product well once they release the next phone.
It does not have the HTC sense, I really like sense. some say they prefer plain android.
Moment has higher hardware specs, but some say the Hero runs better and more responsive.
Moment does not have the same amount of support from forums like XDA.
also.. I am bais!!!!
