Hey guys,
Anyone found a hard case that fits in the car dock yet? Tried the incipio one but it's pretty tight, and the last thing I wanna do with my shiny new bionic is to go wedging and squeezing it
Also, I've heard that because the screen is gorilla glass there's really no need for a screen protector, anyone wanna weigh in on this? I generally carry the phone in my pocket with nothing else in it, should I be worried about scratches or scuffs through normal use and carrying? In the event of a bad enough drop/scratch that the screen would get damaged, would a screen protector provide any help anyway?
Thanks in advance for any advice, and hope everyone is enjoying their phone as much as I am!

The screen protectors they try to sell you at the VZ stores are *always* useless on *all* phones. And since the Bionic has gorilla glass, even the invisibleSHIELDs and Bodyguardz are useless also. You don't have to worry about scratches and scuffs at all on a device that has gorilla glass.
As for cases, I don't plan on using one at all, so I don't have an opinion on that.
i purchased the Shell Holster combo from Verizon and if you remove the insert in the car dock the phone will fit in it with the hard shell on it.
The hard shell also works with the extended battery.
I'm looking for a case that fits over the extended battery. Didn't like the uncomfortable plastic one verizon offers. Haven't seen any others.

I tried the shell holster combo, didn't seem to fit in the car dock even with the insert removed. It felt like the bulge that allows for the extended battery made the case too wide for the clamp on the car dock to fit over the phone, but I was also being pretty delicate with the thing (like I said, I REALLY don't want to go wedging and squeezing anything on my new baby!), but maybe I missed something? Can you post pics of yours in action?
I'll also say that I thought it was odd that the only clamshell holster that my verizon store had was one that fit the extended battery, it definitely seemed to add a lot of bulk to the phone that you don't need if you're not using it. Is there just the single "one size fits all" version of this case, or are there separate ones for the standard and extended batteries (which seems like it would make a lot more sense)?
Also, thanks for the advice on the gorilla glass, I did get a set of verizon screen protectors (even though I know they're worthless) just as a temporary measure until I could get a better one, but I guess I'll be tearing that thing off and seeing how it goes. Anyone else wanna add their weight to this recommendation and make me feel a little better about going au-natural on the screen? I'm coming from a Dinc which definitely needed the screen protector, so I may just be a little paranoid, but it would totally ruin my day if I went without and then ended up with a permanently scuffed screen
Thanks again for all the advice guys, I'm totally loving this thing, just gets better and better every day I use it!
I didn't use anything on my screen (or a case for that matter) on my DX for the year I had it and the screen still looks brand new. I usually carried the phone in my pocket with nothing else in the pocket. Also dropped the phone a few times and no damage whatsoever.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using XDA App
I had Gorilla Glass on another phone and used it for over a year with ZERO scratches. I do not plan on using a screen protector with my Bionic. However, I am shopping for a thin case to stop surface scratches.
I had two OG droids over a period of two years that never had a screen protector.
One did get a very minor scratch but the other I had for longer was flawless the entire time.
I think the only thing you have to watch out for if you're going bare is sand.
So what are you guys recommending for cases? I like the Incipios, but if the holster works in the car dock, that'd be a big selling point.

Looking for a case to fit over the extended battery as well. Hoping that there will be some soon!
You do NOT need a screen protector... rocked the D1 for ~2yr without one and not a single blemish became of it.. it has the same gorilla glass screen:
Youtube:Motorola Droid A855 Key Screen Scratch Test
As for cases... I got the 'high-gloss silicone' case from VZW... I like it, EXCEPT that the power button doesn't work in the car-dock. I was thinking of returning it, but I might just go exacto on it and make a little cut-out for the power button.
I don't know if this is very relevant but tomorrow i'm picking up the otterbox defender bionic case from radioshack (got a buddy whose a rep that can get me a discount). I've seen the otterbox cases on other phones and they're awesome. They do add a lot of bulk but if you're often at risk of destroying your phone if you drop it like I am, (I work at citizens bank park in philly) the bulk is well worth the protection.
Wow, some of you guys are very lucky. Gorilla Glass, without a doubt, CAN SCRATCH. It handles things like coins and keys fine, but things that are harder, like sand, will scratch it. It amazes me that some people still say its unscratchable. Do yourself a favor and get a good quality screen protector, not that Zagg garbage. I recommended Steinheil Ultra Crystal. Once its on, you'll never notice it. Just like glass.
So, just in case anyone was wondering, I did end up finding a hard case that fits in the docks/mounts easily and allows charging and dock mode. The Incipio Feather is what I got, and I'm really liking it. It barely adds any bulk to the phone, but it gives it enough protection to ward off pocket scratches or dings and would probably do fine in a small drop. It does come with a screen protector but I wouldn't recommend using it, it's one of the harder plastic ones that picks up fingerprints like crazy, and while it's big enough to fit the entire screen it doesn't bend to conform to the screen's curves so it overhangs and lifts up around the edges which sucks. I'll probably end up getting a Zagg or a Steinheil instead, but as for the case I highly recommend it to anyone who wants a hard case but not much bulk!

Interesting. Did you contact them? I haven't had this problem on my phone or tablet.
I've heard that the OEM case verizon sells fits in all the docks. I believe there's some sort of insert that you can pull out to adapt for the case. Thoughts...?

Yes, the oem SILICONE cases fit in the docks, but if you're like me and want a hard case you'e SOL. There are only three hard cases that verizon sells for the Bionic, the Incipio two-piece case, the Otterbox, and the shell holster combo, and none of them seem to fit the docks and allow charging/dock mode (not to mention that the otterbox and shell/holster are both huge). You're right about the insert, but it still doesn't help with any of the hard cases that were released at verizon, which is why I'm so stoked to find the one I did!

Hey I'm considering this Feather or the Seidio Surface case (which I had with my Incredible). From the pics on the Incipio website for the Feather case, it looks like the top corners are exposed...is that true? Its a little hard to tell from the website pics. Would you mind taking a couple of pics of the corners with the case on and posting here?
Thanks!!

Original HTC Desire HD Leather Case
Hi there,

do you have the i9020 or i9023? Any type of case you have in mind?

The Incipio Feather Case is nice. It doesnt add much bulk, but still protects well.
Why not get a good screen protector and then run without a case. When the battery door gets to the point that its no longer attractive or you want to sell the phone buy a new battery door cover. A new battery door will cost you $7-$12 on eBay.
My Nexus has survived wars and it still looks good w/o a case. Like ^ this guy said, screen protector would suffice. I hate that extra bulk in my pocket.
I've got the trident aegis black-on-black for my NS4G (which I've had since last august) and think it's great. I had never been a "case" guy, and always kept my phones bare, but this phone was just waaaaaay too slippery. The smooth plastic back is one of the worst features of this phone and makes it really hard to hold on to if you're constantly juggling stuff in your hands and on the move. I dropped it a bunch of times in the first few days I had it before I just caved and ordered this case.
It's a two-piece case with a silicone full body case that covers the whole phone, and then a hard plastic outer shell that kind of clamps around the silicone.
The silicone part is supposed to absorb shock when you drop it, I guess. It has tabs that cover the headphone and usb ports, cutouts that are perfect for the camera and speaker, and mic, and is a bit thicker on the corners, which gives me some confidence and makes me think that they thought the design through well. I've dropped it a bunch, and watched my 1.5yr old son throw it to the ground, and no probs.
The plastic part wraps around that and is supposed to be good at reducing risk of damage during "crushing" impact. All I can say is that I actually shut my car's trunk on this phone accidentally and it was absolutely fine. It gives it gives it a sleeker feel and minimizes the "ruberry-ness", too.
It also comes with a clear screen protector that is fine, and I don't even notice. Since the screen is curved most people complain about the fact that screen protectors don't stick well on the edges, which is true, but the lip of the silicone case on the front covers this area, so you don't even notice it. I also don't notice a difference when using the touchscreen.
The silicone part does collect lint, so if you're OCD about that, it'll be annoying, but the protection makes it totally worth it for me. I'll gladly pay $30 for a rock solid case that collects a little lint rather than get insurance at $7.99 x 24 months = $192 over the contract. The one thing that's important to know if you use multiple batteries like I do, is that you have to put the silicon section into the hard plastic section first, pop all the buttons out of their holes on the hard plastic case, and then push the phone into the case. If you try to put the rubber part on the phone first, and then put the hard plastic on, the fit is so tight, it's tough to get the buttons to pop out. It was pretty frustrating before I figured this out, but now it only takes me a few seconds to do a battery swap. Finally, the case does add some bulk to the phone, but I personally don't think it's all that bad. The phone feels more solid in my hand and is much less slippery.
I've been meaning to write a review for this phone in the proper thread, but I don't like to review stuff unless I've really used it. So I pretty much forgot till I saw this post. Maybe I'll go link to this post in that thread too, but if you want pics, I remember seeing them in that thread, and in threads over on androidcentral or androidforums or something. Good luck with the case search.
I grabbed the Ballistic case for my Nexus. It's pretty rugged, stays on very well, and comes off easily when you want it too. Feels very solid in your hands.

It does look interesting. You mentioned a link in your review, but I didn't see one. Where did you get it? I did a search and didn't come up with anything. Do you think the magnetism will be a problem? I always wonder about that.
Thanks for all the case reviews! This one does look interesting..
Not bad, a TPU case with front protection, stand, and very thin. I am always worried about dropping it face first with a TPU case and this one solves that problem. But does the magnet interfere with GPS, S Pen?
yeah...nice looking case...but can't find it anywhere online for buying it....
I've been looking at this case for a while and found it for sale here:

Nice case. It would be even better if it came with an integral back cover like the Samsung flip case so it would be even thinner.
I did some Googling and found some more pictures:

After a closer look I have noticed that the Momax case is actually different from the Benks case.
http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/momax-the-core-smart-case-for-samsung-galaxy-note-2-black-p37081.htm
I am now wondering if the stand of the Benks case can also be used in portrait mode as the Momax case.
all of the magnets are going to affect the s pens use as well as possibly damage your memory card
I recently got the brown Momax case, and after experimenting with it, there does NOT appear to be any effect on the S-Pen from the magnets in the case. This is after tinkering under a variety of circumstances. Overall I'd say I'm very happy with this case because it does not add bulk to my already large Note 2, and it uses a clever design to enable the device to stand on its own. I would definitely recommend it.

Hey,
can you easily flip the cover all the way back? In the case of typing, chatting, writing is it a problem having the cover hanging around when one-handed? does the cover wiggle too much?
Love this case and I have checked the youtube reviews (Olis4, Himesh123456789, Milkerz5) but they don't show the cover flipping all the way to the back... :/
Thanks in advance...
That's pretty clever - too bad the TPU case color doesn't come in black.
- Frank
I am considering buying this case, but I'm not sure about the magnets.
Do they interfere with the compass or the S-Pen when the flap is wide open or fully folded backwards (not in a stand position)?
Also, how is one-hand operation with this case on?
It's annoying funny how all the reviews omit such important aspects and only tell us about the design...

Sorry for the delay, I did not receive an email that someone replied here until just now. Anyways, yes, the cover flips all the way back to essentially become flat. I didn't have an issue with the cover hanging during one-handed operation. It didn't really wiggle too much either since the phone is secured on the back part of the case pretty nicely. It was my daily driver over Samsung's case for the phone. :good:
As to the magnets, I did not experience any interference although I have to admit that my use of the S-Pen was light. Tinkering and testing when I first got the case showed that there was no magnetic interference though. To expand on my level of one-handed operation - I have smaller hands and did not have an issue with the case. I would typically read Kindle on there and hold it in my left hand, my fingers would come around to the right side of the screen, and I was able to turn pages no problem. I never typed one-handed though, and I always type in portrait mode.
Hope this helps!
Thanks for the reply, it's very helpful.
How about the compass? Do you notice any significant deviation when the case is on w/ the flap in various positions vs when the case is off? For example, I would expect that the deviation (if any) is smaller when the flap is opened at 180 degrees, since the magnets are farther away from the phone, than in a fully folded position.
I'm finding myself using the navigation increasingly often, so it's important to have accurate sensor readings.
Again, thanks a bunch!
I would think that navigation software using gps signal only.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app
I think that the compass is used in pedestrian navigation (which I use), when you turn around in a spot. How else would it know the heading?
I too am interested in a definitive answer in how much the magnet effects spen and the compass.
I've also been looking at the zenus cases which don't use a magnet, but I'm unsure whether it can hold the phone up like a kickstand and it's a lot of money to gamble on if it doesn't.

This is pretty cool and I was actually just thinking of rigging up something similar because my Otterbox Defender case just got here today. Does the silicone outer layer fit over the battery smoothly without modification? Can you post a picture of it all put together?
I'm also a little curious what picture 6 of 7 is showing. Just how much modification did you do to the phone?

OK will post pictures when done tomorrow. a slight bump when silicone attached, it grips on the front really well much solid feel to it!
How did you line that up properly to cut the square out? Can I assume you used a dremel?
I'd like to replicate this
Great mod and idea, other than the use of an otterbox and Mugen being expensive. Would like to see this done with a ballistic case and an anker extended battery.
Once again, great job.:good:
Thanks
Thanks for the comments guys. heres the pictures of it with the silicone skin on! A you can see there is not that much of a bump protruding from the back of the Otterbox case.
This is the ultimate combination for the note 2, as it has the Mugen battery actually installed in the best protective case.
How much bulk does the otterbox case actually add to the phone?
this is AWESOME!!!!! im doing it
What type of stats are you getting out of your battery? I'm buying both in a couple weeks.
DONTTAKETIMETOREADTHISITWILLONLYPISSYOUOFF
did you cut the actual OEM back cover as well as the otterbox hard back piece?
x2 on battery stats, the stock battery is awesome but im always down for an extended, and i hear Mugen makes great batteries.
The Mugen battery on the 4th charge after initializing was 4 days and 14 hours till I reached 9% absolutely awesome!
I did cut the rear cover as I had a spare one when I ordered a spare rear casing after my note 2 got a tiny scratch on the edge when it fell out of the windscreen holder when I hit a pot hole! I know I'm anal when it comes to my gadgets lol. I could do this for a small fee as I have a template made already. and the proper cutting tools in my workshop at work.
The phone does get a little bit heavy, but you soon get used to it after a few hours. I think the protection and battery life are worth the sacrifice, not to mention the wow factor.
I was thinking to put a little stub antenna on the back as I miss this on the new phones,
Just when I thought I was finally done buying accessories for this phone...

I'm actually super impressed by the ingenuity of the GNII community. Between this and the flip cover case mod (and all the existing cases/combos) there are just so many awesome setups that work great as daily drivers or alternate setups for extended use/abuse. Now if only someone threw a flygrip on this haha
Love the Ottobox/Big battery idea!
I will most def be doing this. lol
is there anything "holding" the actual battery down other than the rubber part of the otterbox? for example how the stock battery is held down by the stock back cover pressing against it.
Really cool mod, by the way. Does your Note with modified Defender case still fit face first into the Defender's belt clip? Thanks!
This is awesome. Did you mod case for NFC?
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda premium
Hi, Yes the case fits the holster as it normally does, and the NFC antenna is still in situ!
I got the idea from my early XDA years on here when the XDA1 had the big battery that attached to the back of the phone with 2 thumb screws to secure it to the phone. and the shark fin antenna! must not forget the signal status LED also! Ohh those were the days

Just wanted to say thanks great idea! My phone dropped out of my sweater pocket and hit the stairs right on the corner inside a bumper case. And to my sadness the scree spider cracked threw. Ordered otterbox defender, new screen, replacment phone, and anker 6200 batt right away. Checked the verizon website and still says clean esn to my surprise. Once its done going to put it up for sale to recuperate my costs. Did this mod with a box cutter power drill with a phillip screw bit and a nail file and it came out pretty good. Only difference is that I put stickers on the edges around the power and volume buttons so the phone stays centered and the buttons work perfect. Super happy now.

Hey there,
i am looking for a protective case to use with my quadlock universal adapter. For those of you who don't know it: It's a mount system that can e.g. be used on bikes.
This is what the adapter looks like (attachement). It basically gets glued on back of the phone (uargh) or on back of a protective casing.
Therefore the case should have:
*a hard plastic back surface (non-rubbery, non-TPU/silicone), so that the adhesive can stick well
*a flat back surface (because the adapter is flat itself, so the contact area is very small when it is glued to a curved surface such as the M8's)
*a tight fit (at least it should not easily come off), as this thing is what holds the M8 on my bike when I go downhill.
Somehow it was really easy to find such a case for my old Galaxy S3, but for the M8 I already bought three different cases and none of them looks trustworthy in combination with this adapter. If you have any ideas, suggestions etc - or have seen a case that meets the criteria above, I would be really thankful. Even better, if it's available somewhere on amazon...
Thanks a lot and best regards!

my seidio dilex is as far as i can tell totally flat on the back. I use it with a tetrax nub superglued to the back and it works great. I like it because when im on out of town trips or when im not gonna be driving when going out with friends, i can easily remove it and swap to a bumper or slim case without much hassle.
Hello,
I wanted to get this but I wanted to know if it has worked for you so far...since the HTC m8 is a bit curved to fit the hands as well. please let me know on your findings!
Cheers,
Hey Ns4n3,
I asked the QuadLock support and they recommended the otterbox commuter series.
However I found it still to be a fair bit curved. I tried it nevertheless - haven't had a problem so far but now on the edges the adhesive starts to delaminate. It's still rocksolid, whatsoever. I would'nt hesitate mounting it to my bike yet.
Cheers,

I was wondering how your Otterbox / Quadlock is going a few months later? Still happy with it or has the delamination continued?
I am considering the same combo but trusting my phone to a strip of adhesive makes me nervous!
