I am a photoshop user and I would like to learn how to access the HTC Hero lockscreen so I can customize it myself. I want to change the slider bar specifically. Could someone help me learn how to acces the .png files and how to replace the stock ones with the ones I create?
I currently have rooted and loaded Fresh 2.1.2 (props to flipz for the creation). I have tried lockbot, but the free version is not all that great. It still has limits to the customization. I refuse to pay for something I could do myself with a little education. Please help!
I will be happy to post any of my creations for the free use of others if I can get this working.
Thanks for everything!
Good for you wanting to learn to mod the hero...
I think this guide should help answer your questions: http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-sprint-hero/48610-guide-creating-custom-lockscreens.html
If all else fails try the Android Development forum for our phone and good luck!
cool, thanks for the link. I actually ran across that after I posted my question. I'll see what I can do with that info. I appreciate you helping me out.

All it takes is a lot of reading and some experience.
I wouldn't try to make anything from scratch for your first time. Go off of someone else and tweak it to make it your own. BUT give the person credit!!!
I would actually recommend asking permission first. Its just more respectful.
I just downloaded boot animation changer from the market the other day and I haven't been able to find any boot screens to actually use on my n1. Is there any website that maybe has a bunch? maybe someone can point me in the right direction so that I can make my own? a diy perhaps? thanks for any help

Have u tried searching this site using boot animation? I did and came up with a variant of CM's boot up screen. I am using the one where the android is dropping boxes to spell out CyanogenMod. Now I love to reboot the phone lol...

this website doesn't have a section dedicated to boot screens...if it does please link me to the section. I'm looking for a collection of android boot screens all in one place. I don't want to hunt and peck through threads looking for them. I'm hoping there is some where on the internet with some sort of organization similar to sidekick themes for instance.
geezzz, noobs!
You should search. Really.
This has been discussed countless times before.
This website doesn't NEED a dedicated section for boot animations.
What you will find, if you had bothered to visually scan the Nexus One forums, is a sub-forum titled: Nexus One Themes and Apps.
Within there I found these threads:
nexus one boot animation the attached file that you find there is a zip file. Unzip that to your computer, and browse the two folders it contains. That should give you an idea of how they are made.
[Boot Animations] & [Live Wallpapers] Nexus Holiday in a variety of colors more here with preview animations, so you can choose before you download.
{MOD} Bootanimation [Blade, Laser, Blazer] *Six6Sicks* 7/25/10 has a Cyanogen style to it. I like this alot!
After following those above, you should check out: [SCRIPT] Random Boot Animations v1.3 (Updated 2010-04-20, works on CM 5.0.6-5.0.8).
I haven't used the tool/script mentioned here.
But in the first post, you'll come across SAMPLE LIST OF BOOT ANIMATIONS. You'll find eight links to others.
(i bookmarked it. i actually would not have found it if i didnt search)
On a different subject, Live Wall Papers. Everyone loves them.
You might want to make your own.
[Live Wallpaper] Custom Creater 2.6 [SCRIPT] [WINDOWS]

I'm going to call you lazy.
I'm going to call you a newb.
Don't be offended.
I've helped you alot more here than others probably would have.
You may even get more help. But really seeking, you aren't the first nor the last member wanting help to make their own bootanimation.
The information for this and countless other Androidâ„¢ related projects are out there. They're in here. You just gotta invest in the time it takes to find them, just as I've invested the time and patience it took to copy/paste all those links for you.
PAY IT FORWARD, help someone else out.
If you find something worth sharing, please come back to this thread and post it.
Some other newb may need it.
Hey, I appreciate that you are trying to help me, but I've gone through all of this. I've been using xda since the original tmobile mda on windows mobile. Searching is nothing new to me, especially on the updated vbulliten version of this place.
This is not a matter of being a "newb" or being lazy. This is me asking a question (in the questions and answer forum) about any websites other than xda that might have a collection of boot screens similar to how the sidekick had a website that had nothing but themes.
I know its "cool" to tell people to search and to call them newbies (even when they hae been members longer than you) but you are completley missing the point of this thread.

I have a evo now and i came from blackberry i was a theme developer for bb. but really dont know much about themes for android but i want to get into it. For blackberry they have theme builder and composer is there anything similar to these programs only for android? I had alot of themes on crackberry and app world so im not dumb just need a "get started kit for android" thanks alot in advance!
First off welcome to the android world. Its fun with android it allows you to create more and gives you freedom to edit just about every image. I came from BB to and wasn't able to get full control of the BB OS, like the keypads and other images. The android is fun at the same time confusing and frustrating. Especially when it comes to signing. But, now signing apps, which you will learn is a bit easier, at least for me.
Start off by downloading Avabox V2. its your signing program. Which is easier then others. There are others that does more but this is the most simpliest one that I use and like. There are; SDK, Eclipse, app manager, and some others. These take up lots of space and the instructions can get frustrating when you follow them and then to find out something else is missing. So follow them to the Tee.
Good luck and hope to see some of your work.
Thats great thank you for the introduction. I will download now and get to work! I can imagine it will be a bit tricky as you were saying thanks for the heads up. All info is really appreciated since im new to android. I've had it just over a month now and this thing is incredable I really didn't think I would like it this much.i really really love this phone!

Would there be anyone willing to do a different kind of guide for those wanting to learn to theme or even rom.
If someone would .... as there creating a theme, document the whole process, and as someone trying to learn, could download the files needed and instead of just downloading an already completed theme, they could build the same theme themselves while following the directions. I think that could be a great way for someone to learn this craft. I imagine once you have built one, things start to make more sense.
I have read a few of the themeing guides, and they are great, lots of great info, but a lot of times they dont explain the how/why things are done. Like when can you just edit the .png files to gain a certain look, vs. when you have to go and edit xml files, or which files need to be edited to create a lot of the looks we are looking for.
For me, i learn best by doing. I would love to d/l the same base rom one of you devs. would and follow some instructions and just follow along and perform all of the modifications you might make to create a theme from start to finish. Then a lot of other things might make more sense.
Just a thought if anyone has the time or would be interested, I am sure many people would like to learn this talent.
Thanks.

Reddit is holding a android programming tutorial/class, go check it out
Looking at that now, looks very cool. Seems to be focused more on android programming though, will be looking for some theme/rom tutorials, or maybe ask for one.
Thanks for the link!

yea it def is focused on programming. But reddit seems like a good place to find our request something your more interested in.
Hi,
I just got my XT860, the GSM version of DROID 3. I have tried some ICS roms like CM9, AOKP and even the new KEXEC one. Sadly for me none of them have support for video camera... the hardware codec drivers are missing, and that's a show stopper for me.
So I'm sticking with the official gingerbread ROM but I want to customize it a little so I feel more confortable with it.
I need guidance on how to deodex/zipalign it so I can remove all of motorola's bloatware and change some things like the launcher to the one I like, I also want to change the loading screen to a customized one, change the phone's theme (I *need* those xperia arc icons badly, theyre just gorgeous!). Oh, I also would love to know how to make the rom be compatible with hashofcode's safestrap.
I searched trough many topics on those subjects but I didn't find much information so any help is apreciated. Thanks in advance!

Thanks for taking your time to help me.
I have read the first topic u linked before posting, but it says thats for HTC devices and information on adding support for other devices is either really vague or i`m too dumb to understand. Propbably the latter.
I honestly have no idea.
Are you fluent in any coding languages? If you don't know anything then making a rom is pretty far away.

That and google. Apks arent usually manufacturer dependant, though it depends on the app. Instructions can always be followed and tweaked, you dont have to s-off etc... Google will help you though or you could just rip them out of a pre-existing rom and repackage.
