Super newb here, not looking to get flamed, and have been searching forums for a couple hours before posting this.
I rooted my phone
Flashed new heroc 1.6.2
Flashed Aloysius 2.1 (Not The Overclocked One)
Wiped Phone
Wipe All SD
Partitioned SD fat32+ext2+swap
Changed Ext2 to Ext3
Rebooted Phone
Phone will not start with the SD Card in it...I've even tried REdoing all of this in various orders...
The farthest I've gotten is getting it to boot up fresh with Aloysius 2.1, but still won't boot with the SD card inside.
FYI: Only reason I wanted to get a custom ROM in first place, is to have Apps2SD, if anyone knows of anything I can do here, or of another ROM to try....I'm down to try anything, just hoping that end result = Working Phone With SD Card, and Apps2SD

By "Wipe All SD" I assume you mean you formatted your SD Card? Can you still get into the recovery menu or is it totally stuck?
If you saved your nandroid backup (you made one... right?) and can get into recovery that is your easiest way back to a working phone... Once you've nandroided back I would try doing a factory wipe, wipe ext and dalvik on the card and flash the new rom and recovery image. I also would recommend you read farther into the Aloysius 2.1 thread, as he states that it does support A2SD: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6182764&postcount=19
As for other roms, I'm a fan of Regaw Mod and Fresh, but that's just an opinion
Fresh 2.1.2 Includes A2SD, but you'll need a pretty speedy SD card (aka: not the stock one)
If you read, it boots with no sd card. So he should be able to get into recovery menu. If you cant do it with the sd card in, maybe try loading the card when the phone is in recovery. Or try formatting the card back. It sounds like a problem with apps2sd.
Disclaimer, I am a complete noob but this is what it looks like. did you move your dalvik to the sd?

I am going to soon install the Hero Rom but I have a question about updating it...I would like to have a lot of apps on my Ext partition so it would be problematic to keep wiping it and lots of trouble to keep all my music and photos as well...so since I would have a different SD card partitioned with all my stuff...would it be possible to take that sd card out...and use the stock sd card to update the Hero ROM's on my phone...like just having the update on that card, wiping and flashing and then putting in my partitioned card with all my apps and music... would that work..that way updating is as simple as switching sd cards to keep all my stuff???
Sorry for the long paragraph but if this works this will make me want to flash ROM updates more often.
Wiping doesn't effect your SD card, other then it breaks alot of apps. Your best bet is to reinstall ALL apps after a wipe so that way they don't FC. Putting the update on the SD card is easy and won't effect it, all your music should be there after a wipe from recovery.

ummm...i had reset my phone before when something wasnt working right and the problem was fixed...no root then. but music and photos were wiped out...it took me forever to download my 80 apps... and i saw on some thread here that if you use apps2Sd then you have to wipe the partition as well...and since I still will have the stock sd I mighters well use it...so I just want to know if everything will work if I switch Sd cards like that.

you dont have to wipe the ext all the time UNLESS you are goin to a different hero rom. i.e jachero to drizzy hero. i had to wipe my ext whenever i went to drizzy becuz i encountered a boot loop.
and whenever i do flash a new rom i always create a new folder on my desk top titled "g1 files (whatever date it is)" to create a back up my files just in case. and since swap recudes the sd card life its always best to create back up on the conmputer

well Im going to go with latest drizzy for now and also I heard you dont really need swapper because with apps 2 sd its finallly fast enough...I am not going to update or flash much because i cant get internet on my phone for more than a couple of days...maybe Idk...but if this sd card switch method works i dont need to put my stuff on the computer at all...so someone please answer....will it work and keep all my files?
I just got an A-Data Class 6 4 gig card. I can format 3 partitions, upgrade to ext3, copy update zips and files to it, but it boot loops when i try to load up a new rom (any rom). My old class 2 4 gig card loads everything fine. It even runs the latest king hero really well.
Any ideas?

How did you partition your card?
using parted in console. I've re-done it several times as well.
So no matter what rom you flash your getting a bootloop. Do you have a nandroid?
I do. Using Amon_Ra's 1.2.3
On 2nd thought, do you mean a nandroid of a bootloop instance?

Naw a nandroid of a rom that was working before you started flashing.
unfortunately no. i got partition crazy and removed the fat32 it was on right before i thought "did i back that up?"
With my old class 2, i've been able to get up and running on 4.1.999 and this king hero rom with no troubles.
Can a taco be bad but not bad? like, it tastes good, but it was made with bad ingredeints or a horrible chef.....
It sounds to me like your wiping after flashing.
You wipe data, Wipe ext, fix ext, flash rom.
If you wipe after flashing, or flash without wiping you will always get a boot loop.
The image doesnt run from your sd card, so the only thing that would cause the loop is the data on your phone.
Find a tested and working rom (i suggest either Mligns newest or Kings newest)
Go into recovery and turn on USB.
Move rom to sd card.
Wipe data
Wip EXT and fix
REBOOT INTO RECOVERY
then go to flash any ZIP (if you dont reboot, the rom file will not be seen correctly)
flash the rom
Fix ext again just in case
Reboot and leave the phone alone for a few mnutes.
EVERY phone is different. Some take 2 min some take 10-20 min
But if you have flashed properly, the best way to know is the shimmer on the HTC will continue to flow and not stop.
Sometimes it will fade, sometimes the noti bar will appear for 5 min then boot...
Just have patience and try.
EDIT- You typed while I was typing, It sounds like then maybe that card is bad then. If all works with older card, then the flash may be bad on the newer card. may want to return it unless you have other uses for it.
Just to add a strange twist to this. Just reformatted card so it was all Fat32, wiped, and flashed 4.0.4. Everything went fine. What on an SD card could crash Apps2SD?

Possibly the upgrade from ext2 to ext3. Thats why I like to do mine in Ubuntu. Format the card using linux for a linux phone.
Decided to go a step further and go back to parted and resize fat32 and add a 500mb ext2. Rebooted and it fired up and shows the ext2 in the settings screen.
All that and it's not even Halloween yet. I'm going to try to flash 4.1.11.1 just to see if i can break it again
I'm sending it back. wiped flashed 4.1.11.1. Got to setup screen but everything force closes. com.android.phone, com.google.process.gapps, com.android.setupwizard.
Skipped wizard.
signed in with google account.
no service connection ever made so no account sync.
time to email newegg and try this again

lol.....you give up quite easily.. those problems arent related to the sd card (they are on your /system partition)
try to reflash your rom and repair ext partitions then fix_permissions in recovery
hmmmm.....got card #2 and it appears to be the same case....boot loops. i can't believe that 2 sd cards would be bad only when it comes to apps2sd.
got adb running on my work pc and uploaded a log of the fail
again, everything boots just fine (just booted king's new 1.0) with my lexar class 2
updated logcat - 1st one was when i couldn't get off of the g1 screen.
this logcat is of the bootloop. any help would be great
Im at a complete loss here...everytime i flash a rom it always gets stuck in a bootloop, the only one that worked for me was damagecontrol 99.9999 ive tryed multiple 1.5,2.1,1.6 roms and none work, i do wipe everytime and my sd is only fat 32 i got ra 1.5.3(?2?) Recovery. I owned a g1 and mt3g so im pretty familer with the whole flashing role but im at a loss with this sprint hero, please help lol thanks!!!!
The only boot loop I've been in is when the symlinks for a2sd had been active and there was no ext partition on the sd card.( duh! for me )
So if you have a spare sd card format it with a2sd ... in recovery, dismount it. Copy all your stuff into the fat32 partition of the new sd from the old. Then try a boot.
Hmm ill have to try that, but ive tryed using roms that dont have ap2sd active
I know, its not truly bricked. But as of right now it'll only power up if connected to USB power source and will only boot as far as landscape Android text with a blinking underscore. Part of why I didn't get it fixed last night was my unwillingness to leave and aquire a larger micro SD card. I'll be leaving work in a couple hours to go get some stuff to get this thing working again (its 2 days old) heres the recovery plan:
Aquire 4GB + MSD card
Flash a stock 1.1 ROM (the one thats pre-rooted here)
Install (sideload) that stock joint
Read that Elephant book that comes with the Nook because its working again
From there I'm a little confused. Can I flash Clockwork to a MSD and then use that to flash CM7? Or am I oversimplifying here?
From my trial and error the only thing I have gotten to "un-brick" is to boot into monsters pack then switch cards (i used the 128mb version and it removed the rest of the space on my 2gig card) then format cache and system in the mount section of clockwork. then head to install zip and installed a complete restore to 1.0.1. when thats done I head to BN site and got the side load to 1.1.whatever and let it do its thing. From there your up to date and just like new and can then try and "re-brick" it. Ive had mine for less than a week and done this a few times now cause I am never satisfied.........
The nook is never bricked unless it has a hardware failure. One of the great things about the nook is that it has a very early hook in the boot sequence that checks for presence of a bootable SD card. Creating a bootable SD card is easy. Follow the thread which instructs how to make a CWM bootable SD card. You need to choose between the EXT3 or EXT4 version depending on which ROM you will flash. CM7 requires EXT4 version of CWM. If you try to use the wrong CWM version you will get the outcome that you just observed, stuck at android text. If you want to flash the stock 1.1 rom, then you'll need the CWM EXT3 version.
I had the exact same issue. I used this:
The internal CWR workaround is ugly to say the least. So if you NC should refuse to boot or bootloops, which I hope won't, flash this boot repair that I'm adding just in case. Just flash it, no need for formatting.. Use a bootable CWR SD Card.
HCext4-boot-repair flashable zip: http://www.multiupload.com/LN64D4RXEY
6.8 MB
cf963da4043d91d7f4bf8f784cd02d95 HCext4-boot-repair.zip
from the HC v4 on eMMC thread and it solved the issue and I have since flashed just about everything available with success, including dual boot ROMs. I am using a 1gb card.

That makes things much clearer for me. I knew CM7 required EXT4, but was unaware that the CWM flashed MSD would be properly formatted and couldent be bothered to boot in Linux to do it. Blame lack of sleep. Thanks!
So I finally took the plunge and picked up the Nook color, bought it second hand with HC already on the eMMC so I am not sure exactly how anything was done before. I have been reading the guides and while not completely lost, there's just some things I am unclear of right now.
I installed Rom Manager to install CWR, after installing and flashing it I cant access Recovery, but wasnt sure if it ever worked. Was this the wrong way to go about getting CWR on the unit? I am trying now to boot into a default CWR SD card and run a fix from this thread hoping thats the issue
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11591197
I dont really have a need for the Stock config so putting everything on eMMC for me sounds ideal and am currently trying to get the dual boot config from here running.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=959461
Question now is if I get CWR running from the sd card, can i just apply the prep file and load the pre configured installations from that page? Does the dual boot both boot from eMMC? Will I need to format my existing solution to install that setup?
Thanks for any feedback.

HC, as far as I know, is the only rom that does not respond well to cwr installed internally (I have had those issues). If you get an sd image of cwr burned, you can add any flashable rom to that same card and flash it in recovery (install zip from sd card). If you want to play with CM7, do a backup of your HC rom from your sd card, do your formats and flash the gb rom. I think in theory, if you wanted cwr installed internally, you can load a cwr zip on your cwr card and flash it. I have not tried to dual boot anything, so can not offer any feedback.

So I ran the fix permissions and now I can boot into Recovery From Clockwork or boot from the SD card. There are a couple problems, in order to install the dual boot I need to run recovery from the eMMC but that doesnt seem to mount my SD card or I need to adb into the recovery so I can permission something to run, however doesnt seem to have adb running in Recovery and I dont see an option to restart it.
Alright so everything is working, had to format the SD card. Guess CWR SD sets it up as a boot partition so it wasnt mounting, dual booting froyo + HC, just have to figure out the OC kernels now for each.
I've already got my SD card ready to root my nook, and the files are ready to install hc v4 2nd...i can't wait this should hold me over until the 10"ers come down in price
