I would try re-flashing the ROM, or possibly restoring a previous nandroid.
How long has this been happening for? Any more info on how it might have happened? Did you mess around with any XIM.apk or keyboard layouts?
i tried to wipe it and everytime i have to press the home button the phone shuts off. and no i didnt mess with anything my g.f had the phone in her purse the whole day and when i when to use it it was doing this. itjust started to do like 2 days ago. if i was to hold any of the buttons i said before that are giving me problems the backlights of the buttons go crazy and blink its crazy.

True, that's weird, I would try to wipe/re-flash with ADB then... there is a guide for setting up and using ADB here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=532719
Good luck!
thanks dude ill give it a shot
Err guys, this sounds more like a hardware problem then a software problem, no matter how many times you wipe it will remain like that. Try the "how to remap any key on your G1 thread" here.
Maybe water seeped into the hardware? Wiping through adb does the exact same thing as wiping through terminal, terminal is just more convenient that's why it was put in recovery.
No matter what you do software wise you probably won't be able to fix the keys. Since this just happened while it was in your girlfriend's purse it couldn't have done anything really by itself.

Exactly what I was thinking..
It sounds like moisture or even dust has gotten into the keyboard and shorted out a track. I believe the keyboard and front buttons are all linked together and the keyboard would be the easiest place for a short to occur.
Open it up and give it a good cleaning.
so i wiped the phone and not it wont boot all the way so i said what the hell ill load a different rom so i did that and now my buttons are working fine so far.
Thanks everyone for the help

Hi guys,
I have a HTC tilt and overnight something wierd happened to it. I switched it on and its was scrolling through the home tab by itself and now thats fixed but its scrolling through all the options in the start menu when it is opened. I flashed a new rom to it, but the same problem persists. When i press the power button to send the phone into suspend mode, the screen switches back on in 2 seconds. I would really appreciate if you guys could help me out. Thanks
check if ur jog wheel on the right hand side is stucked or what. that the only thing I can think of whoich scrolls without u touching.
I have tried that, it doesnt seem to be the problem because when its scrolling and i press any other button, it stops scrolling till the phone is on. But when i put it in suspend mode and it switches back on, the same problem. I dont know what could be causing this problem.
then i think its like a circuit problem or something, cause it means that something is being pressed at all times on a board, which excites screen and scrolling . did u put it in ur pocket and sat tight or something ! j/k
and u also said that it persists even with change of rom, so I think it might be a hard ware problem !
hmm..it did fall down like a week ago, but the problem just showed up last night. Do you think i should open it up and check it out from the inside. But if something is being pressed at all times then the pressing of a button shouldnt stop the scrolling and the phone shouldnt come out of standby by itself.

okay if it is in warranty dont open it up, even if isnt in warranty, uless u know how to fix it dont open it.
okay, so in first post u said, it was scrolling on home plugin and u stopped it. can u let me know how ?
well i just played around with it a little bit, did a couple of soft resets and took out the battery put it back in, and then did a hard reset. With that it stopped scrolling on the home plugin but then i cliked the start menu and it was scrolling there, then i flashed the rom and it was scrolling through everything i opened, contacts menu options and what not. It only stopped when i pressed a button and then it was fine till i didnt put it in suspend mode. After i put it in suspend mode it switches back on with 2 sec and the same situation. When i leave the screen on, it switches after some time but the QWERT keyboard under it is always on as in you can see the lights on from the small space.
anything, anyone, i did find a temporary fix, it i went into flight mode and switched on the wireless and the bluetooth. The pda remained in suspend mode and the automatic scrolling stopped. But I need a permanent fix.
This has been the most unhelpful forum EVER....
according to what you say it appears that problem is caused by your radio (radio) rom
try different radio first
try different rom second
best wishes,,

I have tried doing that, i changed from Duttys Hybrid Rom to the HTC tytn rom and i m pretty sure that changed the radio too...But i still have the same problem. I have heard theres a fix by ATT for the tilt when it does something like this, but i cant find it.
Any Help ?
not really try the xda wiki section
i never heard of that fix but try it - you dont have much choices
good luck
I just purchased a Tilt yesterday and I'm having the exact same problem. Sorry I don't have any answers but just wanted to let you know it's not just you. I'm planning on just exchanging the phone tomorrow since obviously no one has any clue what the problem is. Anyway...good luck friend.
Pez
Hey,
Ya i have heard of these cases, apparently ATT has a fix for it, could you be kind enough to ask them for the fix. I would really appreciate it.
Thanks.
yah i have the same problem as of the past few days if anyone can find this fix let me know please.
any news anyone ?
so now my phone wont hit the down button that much ne more its just the up button now, so im beginning to think its not hardware issue
Hi hope someone can help. Over the weekend my TD2 started playing up. All of the hardware buttons apart from the on/off button have stopped working. I also notice that if I turn the screen off with a short tap of the on/off button, after a few seconds it comes back on again. All touch screen functions are ok. It also appears to be draining the battery very quickly, to the extent that fully charged at bedtime (no bluetooth or wifi on and a stable 3-4 bar signal) it will be comppletely drained by morning. As far as I am aware the phone has not gotten wet at all.
I have also re-installed the office HTC rom, which made no difference
Any ideas??
So you reinstalled the stock rom and did a hard reset?
You can try Tarkim's Keyboard controller and see if your hardware keys can be mapped to a different function.
That would help eliminate hardware vs software issues.
I have the same problem. Also my backlight keeps working and won't go off. Can't perform a hard reset because my volume buttons(and all other hardbuttons accept the on/off) aren't working.
Searched for the solution but can't find it anywhere. Who can help me?

Try clear storage app to HR.
Thanks for your reaction.
Yesterday I managed to put an official ROM on my phone.(latest from HTC site).
Problem only got worser. Phone gets complety stuck(directly after boot) in the volume screen. Sometimes its flashes back to the normal screen but only for 1 second. Buttons still aren't working so can't do anything with my phone right now( not even the hard reset methode you told me).
Started to think that this is really some hardware issue. Can't remember that water got in my phone or the phone felt really hard. Any solutions maybe?
Otherwise I think I just go to the store.

One last thing you can try is a Task29 explained here.
Use your official rom (right click on .exe and extract the RUU_Signed.nbh and place in task29 folder, then connect device in Bootloader mode and run the Task29.exe. Follow the instructions in the link.
hi guyz
ive a AT&T Tilt (Kaiser 100). so ive flashed my kaiser loads of times no problem was running great until now when i unlocked it the PPT button and call program open up themselves and some ramdon keys such as E,D,C,etc are pressed!!
also the slide keypad stops responding but the lights are still on for it. the navigational buttons on screen side stop working and the start menu opens up by pressing the button in the middle of navigational buttons!! rest of the keys dont work. power and camera keys still work!
i gave my phone a rest for 4 hours and when i turned it on it started working fine and then again after 5 minutes of use same problem. sometimes in the middle of use it automatically starts working again fine and then same problem comes and this keeps going on!!!
one of my workers at the office mishandled my phone (i think) he couldn't figure out how to slide open the phone and tried everything
so i cant rule out if its hardware or software problem???
please help!!
Hard reset your device and see if that solves the problem.

Because sometimes...well most of the times, with a help thread request like yours are solved with a hard reset . Going by the book...(oohh and it was late last night by the way )
On another note, seems like your friend did mess some of your keys and probably hardware issue. Try and mess with some keys and see if they are not stuck.
In most situations it quicker and easier to reset the phone. Just thnk about it, you don't have the original OS to repair with and you don't really have a method of sending commands to the phone.
Mine is a stupid question.
Looking at my new nexus s the hardware buttons are protruding unlike the old motoria milestone.
They feel not so rocks so I was thinking, what if the power button break?
How turn on the phone or wake up it? How to enter recovery?
if you're worried try to use it as little as possible
my nexus s wakes up when i touch the screen and locks when i put it into my pocket (proximity sensor). So i use the power button about once a week to reboot.
but if it breaks nontheless - send your nexus to samsung they'll fix it.
ive been with a broken power button for almost 5 months now. i use the volume rocker to wake, and the lockscreen widget to lock the phone. also, i use the twrp recovery that has options to use for a select instead of the power button. ive even forgotten that i had a working power button
I would just contact Samsung the phone hasn't been out for a year yet. They should cover this just make sure your phone is unrooted and running stock.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App

How do you enter recovery without it?

How do you have this function? What rom do you use?
CM7 has the wake key functions. CWM recovery also allows the use of the soft keys.

many ways..
in the terminal emulator app type..
su(press enter)
reboot recovery(press enter)
or there are many apps that will boot you into recovery, like RootBooter.
if all else fails, you can enter recovery via adb or fastboot too, via your computer. once you stop using the power button, you will "see" many ways around it. there are root apps that can remap your buttons too.

i gently flick the back of the phone(right under the lens) with my finger), and instantly, the phone powers up. since i test the trinity kernel before releases, i get many that dont boot, and need to go straight into recovery to flash another kernel so that my phone could boot. i do the same thing with the gentle flick to the back of the phone. i boot the phone into fastboot mode, select recovery, then instead of pressing the power button to select recovery, i gently flick the back of the phone right under the lens and the recovery option gets selected. from there i flash another kernel(or rom) and boot the phone. i havent had any issues for the past 5 months doing this, and i flash many times almost each and every day.

Hi, my little italian friend ! I hope you will solve your problem
I have to say, i am truelly interested in how you can get your phone to turn off when you put it in your pocket. Would save me alot of button presses.
I'm currently looking into the Cyanogen 7.1 lockscreen menu but can't seem to find anything for the proximity sensor.
Please enlighten us.

Hi all!
First of all, I'm not sure if I'm doing everything right here, so excuse me if I'm doing something wrong
I'm new.
I've had my HTC One M7 from aliexpress.com for 2 weeks and 2 days now.
Have had great fun of it, nothing seemed wrong, was working perfectly. There were some rumours about an unofficial android-version that was put on this phone, which might be the problem..
Everytime I turn the phone screen on it thinks I hold/doubletap/tap/repeatedly tap the home button, and sometimes when I power it off it thinks I hold the volume down-button and takes a screenshot.. When I finally get to type my 4-digit pin code, it unlocks, goes to home screen, does the same again. Seems like my phone thinks I'm using the buttons..
I've changed settings (in a legit official way via Settings) of my home button to Hold for menu, Hold and swipe up for Google Search, and double-tap for recent apps..
Have tried factory reset twice, have tried rebooting it over and over, have tried almost anything.. I'm at the point of buying a new phone now, because I fear that HTC will not help me because it's an unofficial version of Android.. Any suggestions?
Everytime I open an app it just closes it and goes to home, sometimes before it does that it opens recent apps.. After that it just freezes and I can't touch it. Sometimes after waiting a couple of seconds, I can tap the screen and maybe it's fast enough to open for example WhatsApp, and then it just shuts off and does what I just stated.
Really weird!
I'm quite desperate. Could a custom ROM (Cyanogen or Android lollipop) fix this perhaps?
Please, help

This is purely a hardware issue. Your home button is somehow always in "on" position. Given it's a capacitive button, it could be the digitizer or a scratch on the home button area

Any idea on how to fix this?
This is somewhere about what I mean, read my reply also.
This might even be closer to what I mean.
Should I just send it back to HTC or can I fix this myself, with your heroic help?

Seems like just the thing I wrote. Considering it's a hardware issue you could replace the screen-digitizer assembly by yourself if you are familiar with that kind of work. I tried once on my old Desire and fried the motherboard, so I don't have cojones to do it [emoji6]
