Is this normal? When charging, my N1 is "quite" hot. - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

If its dangerous, what must i do?

Right now i'm charging in at 58%. And the temp is 37.5 celsius. Battery health is good. Voltage is 3982 mV.
Any help?

Okay, sorry. This will be my last bump before i'm eating my dinner.
EDIT: just so you know, right now its at 83% with temp is 36 Celsius. i'm assuming this is normal. But i need your confirmation guys.

its normal well for me

mine is charging 93% health good 31'-4055mV

It's normal. Don't worry, just switch the phone off while charging.
If you're rooted, use SetCPU to drop clock frequency in charging profile.

Is charging my phone killing the battery?

I always leave my phone on the charger over night. I hadn't even thought about it until today, but I was reading a thread and it got me thinking that my short battery life may be because I charge over night. Could this be true?

good question..
well if you are like me, I only charge when I get home and more times than not I am going to bed. So I really don't feel like waking up just to take it off the charger and then let it sit draining battery while I go back to bed. I just leave it till I am up and ready to leave for the day. With my Cappy it last only about 12 hours anyway since it was new so I am not sure leaving it charging over night is that bad of a thing. I am however interested to know the scoop of how this might effect the overall life of the battery.
I don't think it's hurting battery life. On other threads with people asking why unplugging often shows between 95 - 100% charge even if the phone was left on the charger a long time. The answer given was that the charging software will purposely float between these ranges to prevent overcharging. So I think it's okay. And I've pretty much always left my phones charging all night - not just the Cappy - and never noticed any degredation in battery life or longevity.
When your phone is being used (not charging), li-ion batteries carries the - current to the + current, and when you are charging the phone, a external source (an outlet; your charger) applies a higher voltage than the battery operates at, but the same polarity, forcing the current to turn around and pass through the opposite direction (+ to -, instead of - to + like above).
Saying that, each "cell" in the battery has a "voltage limit"[per cell], when that limit is reached, the battery stops charging. Most cell-phone / PDA Li-Ion batteries stop charging at 2.7-3V. And of course, cells also have a inner clock, but this isn't exactly a new concept. All electrical sources have internal resistances, which build up over time, and it reduces the maximum capacity of each Cell, which in turn reduces the batteries overall capacity.
The battery won't kill itself, we're smarter than that. To put this for bed once and for all, it wouldn't matter if you were using the Li-ion battery or not; even if they sit on a shelf unused, internal resistances come with age.
So no, it won't kill your battery. The only things that can speed up the death of your battery is heat. My estimate, is our batteries will lose around 15-20% Maximum Capacity / YR. It's pretty much the average for cell phones.

I always put it on charge when I sleep at night like 11/12, and pull it out for a second or two when my first alarm comes up (~1 hour before I wake up) and put it back on charge immediately to top up, and pull it out when I am out of bed (~8). Been doing this since I got the phone. And I still have ~3.5 hours display time (with active transfer the whole time) and ~1 hour talk time, with ~18 hours standby.
In short, all our cell phones cut off charge when they are full. So it shouldn't matter.
What kills battery is heat. So keep it charged in an open area. If u feel the phone hot after charge, try taking off its case, if any. Keep the battery cool, and u should be good, even if u leave ur phone on charger all night.
Awesome, thanks for the help everybody. However, I heard something about charging overnight while undervolted killing the phone... anyone know about this?

[Q] My Nexus one die at battery 60%, help please.....

Ive tried the battery calibration technique found here. The drain battery till the phone die then open again and let it die.... I've also given the battery calibrator app from market place a go. I don't know how to use that app, im not even sure what the app does and no clues as to how to use it. Finally I've tried installing other roms, battery die at around 60% on every rom. Oh during every rom installation, I always wipe everything, including the wipe battery state. Could it be that i wiped the battery the wrong way? I didn't see the complete message. I mean when i wiped other things, it always says "something something complete" thanksss
ps. I'm using CM6

Well there's the problem then. Read the thread, it has concise instructions.
is this a stock battery? it sounds like you have an aftermarket battery of some find. install the battery calibrator app, and post the numbers it displays about your battery. post the dumpreg too. that's the first thing to figure out the problem.
then from there you can see if a learn cycle is necessary.

Is this it?
voltage 4094.47
current 307.128
temp 37.2
percent 89
batt age 94
full40 3700
min chg curr 80
min chg volt 4099
empty 200.0
empty 3.416
capacity 1640
aged capa 1393
Im sorry what is dumpreg?
Thankss
Oh this is the battery that came with the phone.
From the stats, it's a huge after market battery that would need a special back cover to fit.
If that's not what you've got, it would explain the phone dying at 60%!
Full40 should be at 1452 for a stock battery.
err...special back cover! You mean the battery doesn't fit snuggly in it's place?
The battery and cover fit nicely. They came in with the box. I've used this phone for a while now, i can tell you that the battery performed well until this past week. I mean it lasted like at least 2 days. I know this is a lot for an android phone.
Could it be that my battery is old? Anyway, Ill find the time to follow the battery calibrator guide and report. thanks

dude the problem is your full40 is set to 3700, no wonder your battery dies at 60%. you have to set full40 to the proper value for a stock battery. right now you are using up your entire 1400mAh capacity, and since it is programmed as a 3700 battery, it still thinks it has 60% left when it dies.
set full40 to 1452mAh, use the app to set it, and you will be fine.
After the battery calibration my battery status shows up at only 88%. Ah well at least it dies at 1%. Thanks guys

Charging the battery with phone off makes it last longer?

Havent you noticed that when you charge the phone powered off it takes like 40 % more time for the batetry to charge but it also makes the battery last longer? is there any truth in this or im just crazy?

This is a very well know issue related to battery calibration. Take a look at the many calibration threads to learn about bump charging.
Basically, it takes longer with the phone off (or when you pull and put back the battery while charging) because in some cases android was stopping the charge before a full charge.
Try this
Charge your phone to 100% (inside android)
Turn you phone off
Reboot
Pull the battery before it boots
Wait for the ?
Put the battery back in and notice the %
If it says 60%, then you had 40% of your battery not being charge.
If you leave it in that spot and wait for it to go to 100%, your battery will be better calibrated.

and this hasnt been fixed even with gingerbread? yeah i have gotten the message saying it has 60 % :/
I pay no attention to the battery meter anymore. I've found that it just reads low. It's not that it doesn't get a fully charge, the phone can't read the level correctly. I tried draining the battery once by playing an episode of Top Gear with the screen on full brightness. The phone said the battery was at 5% but the video kept playing for another 1.5 hours.

Charging Overheats phone

Hi,
On 2 occasions now I have charged my Note (Eyebee's Rocket Rom V12) and it gets very hot.
What seems to happen is it indicates charging, does not increase the charge percentage and the battery and phone get so hot I placed it in the firdge. It got to 64 degrees centergrade just now, last time this happened was 70 degrees C plus. Am afraid this will damage phone.
Has only happened twice, anyone know why charging (with official cable and charger) would do this?
Cheers
Worked it out, bearly had time amongst reading through all the posts of help lol
The Weatherzone App was using 75% cpu time, disabling stops the cpu load and phone much cooler, battery lasts longer now.
Cheers

Battery Temperature

I got my phone a few days ago and i found my battery temperature would be 40°C or 41°C when i just
use some common app like FB,IG,Youtube. and when it was charging, the temperature went to 45°C .
is this the same temperature behavior on your Razer phone 2 or my phone got some problem?
Thank you a lot
I actually have the same thing happen to mine when I charge and when I open the camera app. I'm unsure if this is an issue or if it's normal as well.
