Ive tried the battery calibration technique found here. The drain battery till the phone die then open again and let it die.... I've also given the battery calibrator app from market place a go. I don't know how to use that app, im not even sure what the app does and no clues as to how to use it. Finally I've tried installing other roms, battery die at around 60% on every rom. Oh during every rom installation, I always wipe everything, including the wipe battery state. Could it be that i wiped the battery the wrong way? I didn't see the complete message. I mean when i wiped other things, it always says "something something complete" thanksss

Well there's the problem then. Read the thread, it has concise instructions.
is this a stock battery? it sounds like you have an aftermarket battery of some find. install the battery calibrator app, and post the numbers it displays about your battery. post the dumpreg too. that's the first thing to figure out the problem.
then from there you can see if a learn cycle is necessary.

Oh this is the battery that came with the phone.
From the stats, it's a huge after market battery that would need a special back cover to fit.
If that's not what you've got, it would explain the phone dying at 60%!
Full40 should be at 1452 for a stock battery.

The battery and cover fit nicely. They came in with the box. I've used this phone for a while now, i can tell you that the battery performed well until this past week. I mean it lasted like at least 2 days. I know this is a lot for an android phone.
Could it be that my battery is old? Anyway, Ill find the time to follow the battery calibrator guide and report. thanks

dude the problem is your full40 is set to 3700, no wonder your battery dies at 60%. you have to set full40 to the proper value for a stock battery. right now you are using up your entire 1400mAh capacity, and since it is programmed as a 3700 battery, it still thinks it has 60% left when it dies.
set full40 to 1452mAh, use the app to set it, and you will be fine.
After the battery calibration my battery status shows up at only 88%. Ah well at least it dies at 1%. Thanks guys

but everytime i reach 100% and unplug the charger, my battery percentage immediately shows 97%, be it charging with the phone off or on....
i already did wipe my battery stats in recovery a few times, the first time only it showed that the stats were wiped, after that every time i wipe the stats, it immediately goes back to the previous menu, without stating whether the wipe was carried out or not....
can someone help this noob out here.... thnx
FYI, i just installed darky's rom v8.0 with Voodoo's kernel 5.2(lagfix disabled)
when i was on stock, my 100% could last me about nearly half an hour
I have this problem too. (I am on Darky 9.02 and have seen it in Darky 8.0 too). BUT if your battery life is satisfactory then don't worry about it.

9.02 is good but then so was 8.00. I personally think 8.00 was faster but its only been a few days and am still experimenting. I may remove the lag fix and still need to see if my battery is draining faster.

Do you really want it on 100%? Easy, once it says charged, leave it on the charger for another hour and when you unplugged it should stay 100 for a while

thanx all for the advices.... tried the QueenAmy method, result is:
heavily used phone: battery 'died' at 2%(???)
charged phone until 100%(phone off)
switched phone on while still charging: 97% (didnt have to unplug charger)
waited...then it went from 97% straight to 100%.(funny)
then went into recovery to wipe bat stats.
rebooted and unplugged charger, battery still at 97%....
now trying to charge a bit more longer to see if can change anything... (fingers crossed)

left it on for about an hour, unplugged, straightaway the percentage drops to 98...
It's just a change in 2.2.1.
In 2.1/2.2, they 'stretched' out the battery life a bit to mark it up to 100%, in 2.2.1 they decided to just show it at the actual value. The reason your battery won't charge to 100% is to prolong the battery life, because if the charger always charged to 100% it would have a high chance of overcharging and damaging your battery over time.
There's no real change in battery life.
I reverted back to 2.2 and still have the problem. Maybe i shouldve flashed on 100% battery... Is it possible to solve if i do another fresh flash with 100% battery?

Just to clarify this, you actually cant over charge the battery on the SGS nor Li-Ion for that matter, what happens here is that the battery goes on trickle charge pre 2.2.1 and battery degrades faster if its kept at 100%, 40% is optimal for storage now with the recent changes the phone will pretend it has charged upto 100% but will stop anywhere from 99~97% yes there is no loss in battery life but dont consider 97% as the new 100%, theres already a 3% loss in this to begin with.

I recently installed Serendipity and made sure the battery was at 100% while doing so (and deleted the battery file). I'm waiting for the battery to drain before I plug it in. Am i supposed to let it charge all the way again? Also, is it safe to reboot the phone while it is draining the first time? I want to install something using clockwork.
I'm being careful about this because cognition would report 14% battery life after 33 minutes of display usage and display eating up 96% of my battery....

There's a complete thread on this, I suggest you look it up.
After you reset your battery stats, it is suggested to do a few full battery circle (use til dead, full charge, rince and repeat). You should be fine after 2-3 circles.
Note tho that it will not improve your battery life. All it does is a attempt to tell your phone what % your battery life is exactly.
For your fast drain, I don't think it has anything to do with your battery calibration or your ROM. It's most likely a app (or a few) that are draining alot of juice or that are running w/o realy being needed. (Check your running services.. make sure you know which one to stop and not to***)
Also using a app/widget like advanced task killer can help your battery life as it will stop every app running with a simple touch. I suggest doing it anything you're not using your phone.
One last thing, display eating 96% of your battery is normal.. it's not telling you it's using 96% of your battery. It's telling you that during the time your phone as been unplugged, your display use was your main action.. probably cause you didn't make many calls or anything else.. Display is just about everything you do with your phone so it will always have some high numbers like that.

Yeah, I've seen the thread before but forgot about it. Thanks for reminding me. And my point about the display was that it was on for such a short amount of time, yet still killing my battery.
I am now down to 30% or so after 3 hours or more of display time after calibration & rom switch- and I was streaming music through WiFi and using Bluetooth headphones. So it it seems like it made a huge difference =D

Hello guys.
I know you're all tired of people QQing about battery life, but I've yet to find a thread that addresses my issue.
Anyways, I'm running cog 4.2.2, and recently I've seen a drastic decrease in battery life with no change in the way i use my phone, no new apps, and no new roms. I've calibrated my battery about 5 times now, and the same for rebuilding my batterystats.bin. I used to be able to make it through a full day without charging with battery to spare, now it dies sometime in the evening even after bumping the battery charge several times. I charge it every chance I get (between classes, when I'm adding files to it via usb, etc) and it STILL dies. at one point, I observed that my battery dropped 15% in 30 minutes. I used os monitor to check if any apps were running using a lot of cpu, but nothing uses more than about 1% (most things usually show 0%) except the operating system itself, which is at about 7%. Should I just cave and buy a new battery from amazon, or is there something else I can try, short of flashing a different rom?

maybe your batterystats are ****ed up? i deleted the file once before with sgs tools and then wiped dalvik cache and it for some reason seemed to fix my battery issues, and sped up my system somewhat
Don't bump charge so much. Lithium ion batteries aren't designed to go to 100 so often and over charging can result in decrease longevity of the battery itself. The phone has a feature to prevent over charging. When it's on the charger the second it reaches 100 it will stop charging and let the battery trickle down to 95 or so and starts that cycle over again. Too much bump charging can actually damage the battery.
After deleting the batterystats.bin do you let it go through a few full drain and charge cycles before making a judgement on the battery life?

I realize that, and I can't make it through the day without charging it. I only charge it when it's at less than 10% though.
Also, I have deleted the batterystats.bin and let it go through a full drain and several charge cycles. It didn't help at all.
Also it's worth noting that today I left it on the charger powered off after it reached 100% while powered on. I left it plugged in for three hours, and it never indicated 100% while powered down. It stayed at about 90% full, more or less.
replacement oem batteries are relatively cheap, cause it sounds like you got a lemon. Sorry man.

For 8 bucks, it's worth a shot. The most perplexing thing is that it won't max out while the phone is shut off. Tell-tale sign of effed up battery?

Yeah that would raise a big red flag for me.
Try a different rom see if that offers any better battery life, I doubt it but It's completely free to try. Something to mess with while you wait for a replacement. And if it turns out to work then you will have 2 batteries.

going to try wiping the dalvik cache before I order the battery. Wiped batterystats.bin while I was at it. Maybe it'll help.
I got about 11-12 hours today, but I did nothing but text really. This is after full charge, deleting dal cache, and deleting batterystats.bin and then restarting. I mean I recieved a few pics but I really didn't do anything on my phone today other than that. That's just pathetic, since before I was getting through a full day (8:30-2am roughly) with battery to spare and I was using it a lot more heavily than I did today.
Hi fellow O2x users -
Has anyone else had a go calibrating their O2x battery? Either using marosiges' battery calibration app, or manually removing the batterystats.bin file?
I've done the following calibration cycle:
Charged to full via the wall charger, mV figure was ~4188 mV, which I've read is normal, then removed the batterystats.bin file;
Used the phone till it powered off on its own, mV figure was ~3450 mV, which is higher than normal (~3200)? Or is this normal for the O2x?
Recharged the phone uninterruped back to 100%, mV figure was ~4180 mV, so nothing wrong there again either;
Normal usage/charging of the phone over 4 days, and battery uptime is worse than before calibration. (Uptime was worst immediatly after calibration, and gradually improved, but it never got better than before calibration).
Thinking that someting had gone wrong, I repeated the calibration and observed the same mV figures as above. So far, after another 3 days, battery uptime has not improved beyond the previous calibration, and definitely not to the level of what it was before calibration.
The only things I can think of are:
The O2x requires a higher minimum level of charge to power the dual core chipset and CPUs/GPU;
The O2x has a custom batterystats.bin file to begin with, and allowing the android OS to recreate the file doesn't work.
Does anyone have any insights? I'm running stock Australia 10b ROM, rooted, with some of the bloatware packages disabled. I'm not affected by reboots/BSOD's or lock-ups.

EVERY android phone/device I have ever owned has this problem. I just don't see what the battery stats file is used for if we just have to keep deleting it. None of my other phones have had this stupid file and they could ALL read the battery percentage just fine and as a side note also lasted longer I had a thought of making the file read only so the phone could not write to it and see if that makes the phone read the battery from the actual battery without miss informing us using the batterstats.bin file ?

That's what I was thinking/wonderng - Li-Ion battery packs have built in circuitry that handles its state, without the need of a software layer.
Although it seems that other android phones are able to discharge to a lower voltage (to ~3200 mV) - i.e. they have more usable capacity? I'm wondering why the O2x goes off at ~3450 mV...and if that's normal.
My best advice is to avoid using stock.
It is too irregular.
If the 3G signal is weak i get constant 3G and GSM hopping which drained the battery in 2h.
But if it was good it lasted way longer.
not sure about the shutdown voltage, i'll give it a shot later

I'm currently calbrating my battery as I flashed a new ROM, phone was now just shutting off at 3369 mV!

Deleting batterystats.bin did get me better battery life. But after 6 days I had a huge drain.
Rebooted phone, removed .bin again and it's going ok again....
I'm not particularly wanting to calibrate my battery too frequently - full discharge cycles are bad for the battery.
At 30% charge this morning, my voltage was at 3700 mV. If you use 100 mV as a rough gauge of 10% charge, that would give me ~3400 mV at a 0% charge level.
I guess it's just normal for the O2x battery to be flat at ~3400 mV.
If there are any other O2x users out there who have different voltage figures do make a post. Thanks!
The last couple of days I've got a weird problem. When my battery is fully charged everything seems okay and it drains in normal speed (compared to stock).
But when my phone runs out off battery and i start to charge in the beginning everything seems fine.
But suddenly it can go from 75 to 100% in 1 minute.When i look at the stats in MIUI ROM it seems like it's not at same height as it was the last day of 100%. Maybe only 80%.
Sorry for my bad English, but i hope it makes sense.
I've wiped battery stats in CWM. But is it possible that the phone actually is only 80% charged, even though the indicator shows 100% after wipe?
Because if the ROM think the battery is charged and wipe stats it will afterwards only charge to that point and the battery maximum will decrease over days?
If that's possible, how do i full charge the battery? Just leave it in the charger or?
I hope you can understand what I mean.

After flashing Celebration HD 2.0.1b I first used Battery Calibration from market to wipe battery stats. Afterwards the battery indicator problems started.
Yesterday i decided to wipe battery stats manually in CWM and drain to phone to 2% before charging, and afterwards I was able to fully charge the phone.
So maybe the bug in is Battery Calibration app?
I decided to install Juice Plotter to monitor the battery and compare it to one build in in MIUI. Just to get some more data.

Yes i had the same problem as you, with my previosly 2 lg optimus 2x, and returned them because of the problem you mentioned. I am on the third op2x and luckily this work good
So if i were in your position i would try to go to the dealer and shift the phone with another lg optimus 2x.

The user said that he started to have problem after a new rom and wiping battery stats, changing phone for that is not the smartest move at all. Is like changing phone because your rom doesn't work.
I have a similar problem, after you wipe battery stats you don't have a reliable indicator, for me the phone took 3 hours to get from 99 to 100%.
I also noticed that my miui ( 1.8.5 same for 1.7.29) doesn't update battery stats when the screen is off so all those plotter don't work, and i think this messes up with the battery indicator (I guess the phone doesn't have enough data to make a decent estimate)
I think is miui + wipe battery stats that can be problematic

How old is the battery? How many cycles does it have?
I know from laptop Li-Ion batteries that the voltage vs. capacity is not linear.
When discharging, the voltage will steadily drop to a "wear-level" where it will jump to an almost depleted level. When charging, this "wear-level" will be at the top.
Why I am telling this? Because if this mapping is kept in SW and you wiped it, Android needs to relearn it again. So at 1st complete charging/discharging you would see a % sudden drop/raise, but at the next cycles it would be linear with time (although the total time will be smaller than a new battery).
When laptop/phone battery tips talk about calibration, it is so whoever monitors the voltage (circuit in battery or SW) to know were the wear drop will be, so your estimates to be better.
As an example, I had a very old Thinkpad that did not have any calibration, and it would discharge to about 40% and drop to 5% within seconds. But when charging, it would raise steadily to 70% (from that 5%) but 70% to 95% in seconds. After years of use, that percentage gap would just increase (40-5 got 60-5, 70-5 on discharging).
PS: my current Thinkpad has 4 years and the battery capacity is 49% with 150 cycles. But this one has a nice feature where if the battery was above a certain percentage, plugging AC would not charge it (and thus save a few cycles). I used it set at 70%.
PS: LiIon batteries have cycle count, heat and time as main enemies. Also don't like prolonged (think storage) low charge.
