Hi guys,
Just sold my desire and bought a nexus, and i just want to clarify a few things
When im in the bootloader screen it has a big unlocked at the top, i suppose this means my bootloader has been unlocked?
Also i have a S-on, is this right?
I cant seem to write to my system partition in normal running of the phone, i thought this could be done on the nexus?
I just get a read/write error like its still protected... On the desire i had to boot to recovery every time i wanted to mount the system and copy files, do i have to do the same on the nexus?
Sorry if this seems silly to you guys, but coming from the desire, we did things very differently, due to our only partial rooting
JD
Yes you have an unlocked bootloader, and S-ON is the norm for a retail phone.
Just because the bootloader is unlocked doesn't mean you have SU permissions, what ROM/recovery is installed?
My rom its paul's r18 and my recovery is clockwork...

Hi guys!
I'm about to buy a Nexus One on Ebay but I have a short question to you guys
Since the seller has unlocked the bootloader to install custom ROMs, he restored the phone's recovery and OS to stock Google's stuff.
My question is: when Google will release 2.3 ( Gingerbread ) OTA update, is my phone going to get it like anyone else if my bootloader is unlocked?
I would really appreciate your help guys!
Thanks a lot!

Unlocked bootloader will not effect the phones ability to receive and install OTAs.

Are you sure my friend? I really want to be sure about receiving official OTA updates
Also, is it possible to lock the bootloader like if it was a brand new phone?
Thanks again guys!
I'm 100% certain.
My bootloader has been unlocked for quite a while, and yet recently I returned to an older stock image and received an OTA update as soon as I rebooted...
The bootloader cannot be re-locked, unless you have one of the very few "holiday" versions of the phone...

So when 2.3 Gingerbread will be released as an OTA update, my Nexus One will get it at the same time?
If everything else is stock, yes, you'll be fine. If you do have any problems, you can always come back and deal with them then...
May as well enjoy your phone, and perhaps read some more of the forum while you're waiting for the update?
Welcome aboard! xD

There are people working on relocking the bootloader, but it's likely going to take a while to achieve
yes your phone will get the official update just fine. but i promise you, bet 100 bucks that with that unlocked bootloader, you will download the next update on your own long before google officially pushes it to your phone. you wont be able to wait. unlocked bootloader is the way to go...
Hey,
I couldn't find any help regarding this one:
I have unlocked my bootloader using the htcdev site (i am aware of the warranty issues).
So i've got this super sexy device, with unlocked bootloader, RUU 1.16.000, S-ON CWM recovery and root access.
I've tried to install the Revolution HD rom (3 times now) and after each time i got stuck at the HTC logo screen, not the one that says"quietly brilliant", but the one the says only "HTC". So luckily (again) i've done nandroid and used it to get my operator's ROM back.
So i've got 2 questions:
1) am i a failure ? what am i doing wrong?
2) is it possible to remove all the annoying operator's apps? and how? (fastboot/adb...)
3) What the heck is Goldcard?
Thanks a lot,

1) There is a sticky in this forum. Search it for your reference.
2) You cant remove the apps cause it is located in /system/app. You might wanna try deleting them using a file manager
3) As far as I know, for incredible s, its used for downgrading hboot 1.16/2.00 to 1.13 (there is a thread somewhere around this forum) so that it could be s-off'd using revolutionary.io
Hope this helps! ^^

There is an answer there.
Sorry for posting this
And thanks a lot!
Uninstall system apps with titanium backup(market app)
Edit: goldcard is for flashing HTC signed roms from other carriers

If you dont want to downgrade and s-off your phone you need to manualy flash boot.img via fastboot after you flashed the rom.

I am on stock just unlocked bootloader and rooted. Will simply relocking bootloader and unrooting help to get updates?or I need to reflash stock Rom?
I am not sure about this, but the only reason you can't do OTA's with the bootloader unlocked is because the unlocking procedure deletes some of the built-in apps in HTC Sense. The phone will check for these apps when it tries to update and fail if they are not present. There is a thread somewhere in XDA which tries to solve this issue of apps being deleted when unlocking the bootloader.
You have to flash stock Rom, stock recovery, then relock to receive OTAs. At least that has been the case in all other HTC phones. The HTC one might be different since a couple of apps that come with the phone are not in the system partition and get wiped when you unlock the bootloader.

OT: The removed apps can be reinstalled here.

Well I havent flashed any other Rom. Just wondering if after unlocking bootloader some apps disappear, does that mean I need to reflash stock Rom. Don't think that simply relocking bootloader will bring them apps back. Hope someone can confirm that
When you unlock the data partition is wiped. Some of the apps that the ota looks for are in that partition. So you either have to flash a stock Rom or restore those missing apps before you relock.

Granted, I'm basing this on the HTC Droid Incredible, nearly a three year old phone, but with us you just have to have the standard HTC apps that it checks for, and the stock recovery to flash it. You could keep the bootloader unlocked, since the unlocked bootloader can take the same commands as the locked one, it just doesn't check for signatures. Again, this is based on a different device, so it may or may not work.
Okay, I have a couple of questions I'm hoping someone can answer.
1). What is the situation with the boot loader on the One? I know there is a developer edition, but are all of the other versions going to be locked down? Also, since there is a Dev version I assume the one won't be on their unlock website, right?
2) my second question is more about HTC in general, and s-off. I know it stands for security off, but what does it do exactly? I've heard its needed for flashing certain things like kernels, but I don't understand why that would he necessary if the boot loader is already unlocked.
Im on Verizon, hoping and praying that the One comes to us, if not I'm probably leaving them. Can't wait to get my hands on this great phone, and hopefully help HTC come out of the dumps

Chirp chirp? Are there not even any crickets in here?

The One can be bootloader unlocked through htcdev. No problems there
Bootloader unlocked lets you flash custom firmware, but S-OFF gives you full control over what you want to do. This stands for NAND locked or NAND unlocked. What that does is give you access to normally restricted partitions on the phone, such as the boot and radio partitions. Even with bootloader unlocked, you need to flash the boot.img separately if you do not have S-OFF and radios cant be flashed
And doing the chirp chirp thing doesnt encourage people to answer. Just a tip.
Boot loader can be unlocked on all EU carriers by spending 5 mins on the htcdev site (its included under Other phones)
As for s off, not currently possible but also not needed. On tegra HTC phones you needed it to flash boot.img as part of flashing a new ROM but already bypassed for the One.

Technically its still needed, but theyve developed a workaround which is essentially fastbooting it from the phone.
Also correction, its not only on Tegra processors that this is an issue, its on all HTC devices because they all come NAND locked.
It's not needed but would be better if we can get s-off soon.

So, what can be done with S-OFF that isn't possible currently?

One of the things that can be done with s-off is flash a kernel image right from the phone without a PC

As said above me, flashing kernels during a rom flash (the rom zip will attempt to do it, but s-on prevents the boot.img from taking) without a computer or a workaround like SuperBoot, and you can also flash radios with s-off

CID can be changed to flash a different region ROM.

And also to reflash HBOOT so that it says LOCKED instead of RELOCKED for warranty purposes.
Hellow.
Well like the titles says i have this indication on Bootloader Mode. First i succesfully unlock the bootloader mode from htcdev.com. At that point the only thing that changed was the status From Locked to Unlocked in the Boot Loader Mode. Now After flashing Clockrowk mod recovery i have another indication except the "Unlocked" which says "Tampered" just right above Unlocked Indication. Is is normal to have this indication? And second how i can root my Htc One M7 Internatinal Version Sw 1.36.599.1. Htc_332. Plus everytime i go out from Clockwork recovery it ask me if i want to root the device. Is that Normal ? Should i say yes? Or go the the normal way " Update from zip?".
Thank you,
Konstantinos.
Yes, it's normal that it says tampered. And, yes, you should say yes if you want to root.

Thank you for your responce,
Can you tell me if there is way to get rid that indication? What accually means this inidication anyway??? And one last question what's the difrence between SuperSu And SuperUser??
Thank you in Advance.
I believe the tampered means that your recovery isn't 'signed' as it's expected to be. You can get rid of it once you s-off if your going to do that (flashing a stock recovery or running an RUU would probably also get rid of it). And, lastly, those are two programs that both do similar things - both work well.
