Currently staying in europe for a month and having some problems with my n1 on wifi. It finds a connection and connects to it but it will not open up any sites or update any apps. My ipod touch works fine but the n1 will not. It is rooted and it does work 100% fine in the US any and all help will be greatly appreciated.
Anyone any suggestions?
Soft reset. When you power your phone on, press the trackball before you see any animation or images. That will take you to a white screen with a few options in small text, use the volume rocker to select the one that says reset (I am pretty sure that is washtub it says, but I'll check.) and use the power button to confirm your selection.

To all friends who using n1.. im have about 1 question.... could be all n1 will be die brcause power button issue????? I really love my n1.. so afraid my device will die because of that.... anyone have answer? Or its just defect device who counter that problem?

Best suggestion I can give you is to get root and use a ROM with trackball wake/unlock. This will reduce the use of the power button to almost nothing. You could also then use quick boot to allow reboot to recovery, bootloader or normal. All without touching the power button ever.
Some devices have faulty power button. Some don't.
I don't know how lucky you are with your device, and I don't know how gentle you are with the power button, so it's impossible to tell if your power button will fail or not.
In any case, as suggested above, using trackball wake can lower the chances of it failing.
U said some have some dont... that mean not all could possible became faulty.. usually how long the device became faulty? 4 month? 6 month? Or over 1 years? Currently im using widgetlocker to unlock via trackball...

I have had mine since about a week after release. My power button is still like new. I have never had to push it twice to do the same thing.
Mine broke about a month ago, i bought ti a couple of weeks after release.
I used quick boot to reboot it, screen off and lock app to turn the screen off, trackball wake to turn it on. And if you need to turn the phone back on, you can plug it into power and pull the battery a few times.
Power button is fine after a year. But I avoid it as much as possible by using Quick boot, Lock, & Trackball wake.
That mean all possible became faulty!!. Right now im avoid it using power button.. i use widgetlocker and screen off and lock free on market.it help me to turn off screen without touch ur power button

It's kinda strange, I keep hearing of these issues with the power button...
I had to have dropped my N1 at least 5 times straight on the power button. Almost split the device in half one time doing it. Power button never failed on me, nor did any other hardware come to think of it. And I still sold it. lol.

It IS a possibility that your power button will go bad. It is a possibility it may not. No one can say for sure that, yes your power button will quit working. The less you physically push it, the longer it will last, obviously.
Mines been fine and I've been using it regularly since April, I think the issue affected more of the early Nexuses than the later made ones.
My power button is starting to lose it's functionality and I am sad about it. It's still usable but my alternatives is using quickboot, trackball wake, and lock screen app. I barely use my power button now.

I recently broke my LCD and am currently in the process of either fixing or just flat out replacing my captivate. The question I want to possibly have answered is this:
Is there a way- and if so, how am I able to pull the data off of the phone and transfer it to my PC without being able to utilize the touch screen or even view it for that matter? I am unable to mount the SD to my computer because I have no way of actually doing that with the lack of a functional screen.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
So, to make sure I get this right, there's no functionality of the screen at all? Like you can't see nor interact with it?
Or can you at least touch and get results without having something to look at?

Trying to use the broken screen to navigate to mount it I doubt will yield any results, recovery works because it's navigated with the hardware buttons. Umm idk about stock recovery...but if you have cwm then, if you found a screen shot of it you could count the button presses to mount it that way.
Or wait i believe they send the insurance replacement and then you send in the broken one so you could flash cwm on them both and hold one in each hand, then synchronize button presses using the new phone as a guide. I did this exact thing, when my brother in law decided to chuck his cappy across the damn room. Only I used my captivate instead of the replacement. Worked like a charm. But the replacement did get here before we had to send in the broken one.

That's a key question. If you knew the key presses and screen gestures to get to TV Out, say. Would your phone's menus still browse in response to blind touch?
Simple test for that when fully booted:
press Power button to light screen
fully swipe any edge of the screen to unlock
press the lower left Dock icon (Phone), above and fully left of the Samsung name
an audible click means you loaded the dialer.
This is easy if usb debugging is on.
Adb pull /sdcard

Correct, there is no functionality to the screen. I can neither see nor get a response from touching it. The digitizer and LCD are both BUST. USB Debugging was not set either. Not sure I will be able to recover from this one.
Yes you can. Read my instructions. Even if you didn't have cwm you can use a button combo or a jig to boot into download mode and flash a kernel with it baked in. totally doable.
Look on youtube at mobiletechvideos channel he has a video for just this type of situation. You basically use your pc as your captivates screen.

my power button seem to stop responding at times and it isnt the hardware thats messed up i think it has something to do with the software because when the power button stop functioning completely i do a battery pull and can turn on the phone perfectly fine its only when the phone is on is when the power button stops working...i noticed it mostly happens when i plug it into the dock maybe its the deskhome app not sure tho if anyone have this problem please let me know so i know i wont be the only one
Every phone cab have it's funky moments. I have seen this a couple times. Here is a solution I have found that works on all smart phones, and I believe that most will agree. Your phone is a computer, plain and simple. Try doing a battery pull every day our two.
It sounds like your problem is very defined in when it happens, is that so?

I do battery pulls when the power button completely doesn't work then sometimes it works for the whole day then sometimes takes me like few more battery pull after the initial pull for it to respond its annoying in some ways but I guess I'll live with it until I find the problem

hmm i think i figured out the problem if anyone still cares....when my phone is low battery or somewhat low (not above a certain percentage) my power button starts working normally.....dont know whats causing it maybe too much power hAHa
Something is definitely wonky with the phone when the screen is off... I have the lock screen disabled and it takes 3-4 presses of the volume buttons to wake the screen usually. Also, I have gosms wake the screen for certain peoples texts, and sometimes if the screen is off and I get a message from these ppl, the phone will decide it wants to vibrate for 2 mins, keep the screen on and not work at all until it resets itself... eh.

ok i know im gettin annoying with my theory's on why my power button doesnt work correctly but another thing that my power button starts working normally even at full power is when i change my wallpaper....i wonder would it be a wall paper problem although now i just think im going crazy lol
Hey I need some help.
I have a stock exhibit II 4g and I am trying to root it but I've tried a thousand times and it will not go into recovery mode. I've tried many timing variations one the simple power and volume up. Some site say to do power, volume up, and home. and the there volume down and power which takes it into Odin Mode which just sits there "downloading" forever.
I've even watched youtube videos and time it exactly like they do but my phone just does not do the same thing that theirs does. Is there some trick to it that I'm not getting?

Try this. Plug it into USB cable of computer, pull out battery, hold volume up and power and reinsert battery. You should come to a screen with a triangle, just hit the menu key and you will be in recovery.

That worked, thanks. But now my data doesn't work with any of the ROM's I've tried (CM10 and slimbean both 4.1.2). and the android keyboard stops working whenever i install gapps.
Any idea why?
Not that the roms come with data off but did you check to be sure data is enabled. Usually the easiest is the most overlooked.

I've managed to get into recovery by holding both up and down, holding power till the screen turns on, releasing power, then waiting till I see the recovery menu to release up and down.

Phone HTC Vivid
The battery died last week and every since then the screen is so dim I can barely see it. It will charge and hold a charge all day, everything else works fine, vibration works, I just cant see the screen unless in a dark room.
Never done anything to alter software. I did replace the LCD screen, digitizer and motherboard about 2 months ago. All has worked fine until the battery died.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Yes that was the first thing I looked at. I really think it is a software issue since the phone works perfectly otherwise. Vibrations, calls, text, browser, apps, etc everything works. I would like to try doing a hard reset to return to factory settings to see if perhaps if it is a software issue this might correct it.
I don't know how to do this on an HTC so any help is appreciated.

Go into settings and look under storage i believe
You can boot into HBoot by completely turning off your phone holding the down volume button the pressing power at the same time then factory reset there.
