Hey guys, I'm using an unlocked G1 on AT&T and wondering if anyone knows where I can get a refurbished or used Nexus One for a decent price? Sadly, I'm trapped with AT&T but I would like an Android phone that's 3G that I could afford (I work in nonprofit and $600 is definitely not an option )
ebay/craigslist
tried those, no luck; does anyone know of someplace that sell refurbished N1s?
Honestly, the G1 is a wonderful device. If money is an issue, and you want a 3G smartphone, you already have it made. Stick with that, and grab a Nexus One when they become the new G1.
It is a good phone, I do like it, BUT with AT&T as my carrier, I cannot get 3G since it was a t-mobile. Sadly, I don't think there are any places to buy a refurbed N1 since Google has a tight grip on them.

Hello everyone,
I'm debating on upgrading to a Kaiser in the very near future, and I was just looking for suggestions as to where people in the USA have bought their Kaisers. Whenever I do google searches, I find plenty of places that sell them oversees, primarily in the U.K. so my questions is, where are U.S. owners getting their Kaiser's from?
I have T-mobile service, and am not interested in the AT&T Tilt, which is apparently a version of the Kaiser? I'm looking for the full blown version of the Kaiser, with the GPS and whatever other goodies are included.
Thank you for your help,
IIRC, the only difference really between the Tilt and the Kaiser, is that the Kaiser contains a frontside camera.

Uh, the Tilt has the GPS and other "goodies". If you wanna add stuff later or flash a new ROM, go to an at&t store and get one.
well, I would much rather get an actual Kaiser than a Tilt. That's why I was looking for feedback from American users who have Kaiser's and where to get them through American dealers. I would much rather order it nationally, than ordering one from oversees if possible.
try amazon.... thats the only place i can really think of...
http://www.amazon.com/HTC-P4550-II-...sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=wireless&qid=1202781885&sr=8-1
good luck
They only sell tilts in the U.S. Tilts are greatly cheaper than Tytn IIs. Only place you could get the phone you want in the U.S. is some black market.
Why would you want the Kaiser over the Tilt? You can't make video calls yet here in the states so the front facing cam is the only difference.
Not sure why you feel that you have to have the Kaiser. The only thing I'm missing is the front camera - which is a VGA cam meant for the video phone feature which you cannot use in the US. Played with the Kaiser before I bought the Tilt and decided the extra $500+ wasn't even close to worth it (you can find subsidized Tilts for well under $200 - got mine for $150 after rebate in early November). Obviously your decision to make, but I am not missing out on anything but the higher expense. I flash, I cook, I TomTom, I take pictures and video, I get HSDPA virtually everywhere I go.
Try AT&T Premiere and Egghead/Amazon for Tilt deals to help you compare against the Kaisers you find. FWIW.
ebay
a little surprised that there are about 5 replies and not one mentioned ebay.
wouldn't that give you the most options?
Just type "kaiser -tilt" on ebay which will ensure that no entry with tilt is shown (may also leave out some other kaisers but atleast will get you started). I did a search and 9 came up.
Good luck.
I got my Kaiser from an importer off of ebay. I was a very early adopter so I paid a lot for it, but I too wanted a real HTC Kaiser and not a ATT Tilt.
(you can find subsidized Tilts for well under $200 - got mine for $150 after rebate in early November).

Are you meaning you can find it for $200 with a plan? Because I can't find it unlocked for less than about $350......

You don't need to buy it unlocked already. Those are scams since its free to unlock. Buy a Tilt, come here and unlock it for free. You'll need to read how when you get it. Use search too.

Never had a problem with them.
.
Unless you're particularly averse to signing up for a new 2-year contract with AT&T, you can pick up a Tilt for really cheap.
Just ordered mine today for $54.99 (refurbished, w/ 2-year contract but only for the basic voice plan ~$40, using A&T coupon codes I got off the internet).
I paid $370 (including shipping) for my tilt. Bought from ebay. Then i unlocked and customized, etc.....

Umm there's almost no difference between AT&T TIlt and Kaiser. TIlt has everything (yes, including GPS) but front-side camera (which u dont need in US, frankly).
If I were u, I'd dump T-mobile and switch to AT&T. I got a brand new (not refurb.) Tilt with 2 year contract for $150 USD. Can't beat that. Besides, I get unlimited HSDPA for $20/month (I get around 50-60 KB/sec where I work).
Got the Tilt from ebay shipped for ~$400. I asked my friend to get an unlocked code from ATT so it is free.
i agree with DarkDvr, ditch tmo, and get a tilt from at&t. i got a refurbed one for $150......the second camera is not worth that extra 400-500 imo. besides, if you really wanted that front camera........it may be possible to just plug one in, just like how some ppl were doing it with their 8525, but that all depends if the port is there on the tilt, i havent looked into that yet, so i dont know
Ive been with T-mobile for about 15 yrs.... so I don't want to just ditch tmo.
I don't know why I feel so inclined to buy an actual HTC than the AT&T Tilt... maybe it's a pride thing! Don't want my phone to have at&t all over it ... just HTC
Hey gang,
If anyone can help I will donate via paypal...anyone have a good sticky or tutorial on unlocking your N1 for any service provider? Do I just need to root it or is there more steps involvled? Thank you for helping a novice N1 user!

rayman,
The nexus one is already unlocked, but there are two types of N1s.
Here is a link explaining more in detail:

Thanks buddy a lot! My brother bought his N1 through t-mobile about 3 weeks ago off google.com/phone...and is already wanting to sale it for the iPhone 4G. So I guess its already unlocked he will just have to pay the cancellation fee to t-mobile when he sales it and switches over.
Thanks so much buddy.
I'm guessing that fee will not be insignificant.... And then to throw down $300 on a new phone, AND switch to AT&T in the process?
Ouch.

Some people just have money to waste and I think Apple targets people like that.
I love my N1. I don't think anyone could, reasonably, pay me enough to use an iphone 4 over my N1.
OP, you should show your brother how to put on Froyo 2.2 or root it and put on something like Cyanogen Mod. Soooo many more possibility than the icrap.
Dont forget that you will also have to pay the T-Mobile ETF and you also have to pay Google an ERF. So you have to Fee's to pay..
That is why iphone is the #1 selling phone out there...their targeted customers?
DUMB IGNORANT LAZY RICH PEOPLE...and a few poor ones that just want to look rich.
Lol we are no way rich...but if sold on ebay for $500.00 like some of the others won't you break even? Didn't know google had an etf...thought it was just t-mobile?
In your opionion since we are discussing what do you think N1 has over iPhone 4G? I have to admit I love the video chat thing on iPhone...only thing AT&T sucks...I think T-mobile probably has better service.
did you buy the phone unsubsidized or off contract? I
If you got it subsidized you have a T-mo ETF and the google ERF (equipment recovery fee). If you are withing the 14 days (which i dont think you are) you can send the phone back to HTC and cancel the T-Mo account with no fees.
If you are past 14 days, be prepared to drop some dough.
Yeah I told him that...hes not gonna switch now lol...I guess you gotta wait 4 months before you can get outta of googles etf...him and I both love the N1 just wish it had more games like iPhone...but theres so many things I like about the N1 that the iPhone doesn't have.
Dont change your contract. Just keep your tmobile account connected and buy an iphone outright when they are released and Jailbrek / unlock it to work with your tmobile sim (altho the simcard itself will need to be converted to Mini sim)
Thats a great idea...hopefully they won't go over $500 in price.

iPhones (including the new iPhone 4) are $599 and $699 full retail price (16gb/32gb).
They're $199/$299 on 2 year contract with AT&T.
I'm considering an N1. Where is the most reputable places to buy from? Amazon, ebay, craigslist, other, etc? Also how can I make sure its unbranded(to use on att without data plan)? I just don't wanna get burned, after seeing some of the decent prices online
After an unfortunate accident with my N1 I turned to craigslist and found a used tmobile N1 after only 5 days of looking. $200 and it was basically brand new. I was astonished at the condition of the unit. Just make sure you test w/e unit you decide to purchase with your own sim to verify correct functionality.

Seems there are more T-mobile N1's around than att. If I can't find an att one I can still use the t-moble N1 with me att sim, I just wont get 3G right?

correct, no 3g.
Looking into getting a Galaxy Camera. I was excited they offered a wifi only camera. Looking at the prices though between the two, it looks like the wifi only version of the camera is about $100 more than an unlocked GC100. Is the ONLY difference between the two that one has cell data capabilities and one doesn't? The GC100 still has wifi, so I'm kind of confused on the pricing...
I was thrown off by the price diff also.. went ahead and got the unlocked one on amazon for 340.... And love it.. took it to Six flags this weekend ( my daughter was dancing there ) used my att sim. and had data and texts all day while still being able to take nice pics.. I say go for the unlocked one, its cheaper, and that sim slot may come in handy one day.. even if u only use the wifi..

True. I have T-mobile which I think will work in it (at least basic 3G), so I probably will go that route. I just wasn't sure if I was missing something or if it was just retailers hanging onto that price for some reason. Thanks.

If you want to hold off a bit we can hopefully provide some files to twistedumbrella and EVA which will help us completely open up the GC120 Verizon Galaxy Camera. Verizon is required to sell any device that uses the 4G LTE spectrum as factory carrier unlocked. So it is quite possible you can purchase a GC120 (for $250 on ebay now) and get TMO 4G (vice just 3G on gsm model) on it.
Just putting this out there. Don't take any of it as set in stone as of yet!

Thanks. I don't see any on eBay for that cheap however. Amazon has the GC100 for $330 which I think is a pretty decent price. I wouldn't mind either if it was only 3G because I would only use it if I really need it (which will probably be rare). Heck right now I have a Nexus S which is still 3G so hey, I'm used to it
Hey T mobile users, I currently have a Sprint note4 unlocked on Cricket network. As you may know I only get hspa speeds this way, Not a super big deal to me. As I've had the phone this way for a year now. Only reason I even ended up this route is because i got the phone (at the time) real cheap from a relative.
But now that I've seen the prices drop quite a bit cause of its age, my question to you is first will the t mobile phone get lte speeds with Cricket(at&t)? It looks like to me it has them bands.
Second, Do you think it's worth the hassle? I figured I could comp the price by selling mine afterwards.
Your advice and opinion is appreciated. Thank you!
It WILL work, but it isn't worth the hassle. With T-Mobile you would only benefit from VoLTE and WiFi calling. You can root your existing phone and flash a ROM with the T-Mobile system files and keep your.
AT&T and T-Mobile note4 is the same hardware-wise except the bootloader, modem and corresponding kernel required to make WiFi calling work for the N910T. The N910A is punished with the locked bootloader, so I can see your concern.
If I understand you correctly: You wish to keep your current carrier, but to switch phones just to get LTE speeds?
I have a 910T running on Cricket's network. I think I paid $150 for it used which was a huge upgrade from the HTC Desire 510 I was using. It had a burnt in screen but I learned to deal with it for $150. Also has some other quirks that usually only show when a phone's been water damaged. I learned to deal and get around them though. Because of this, I don't recommend buying a phone used. And since you're content with your Sprint model, I might just stay with that.
The reason I went T-Mobile was because of the unlocked bootloader. And there's no doubt in my mind that I'll have this phone for another 2 years. It's a great phone and after Samsung took a bunch of features away with the Note 5 and then created an exploding Note 7, I'm quite happy with this device for a while to come. Now the rumor is that Samsung might be taking away the 3.5 headphone port. If that's true, **** them. I just used my headphones for over 6 hours on a Greyhound bus and Bluetooth requires charging which I don't wanna deal with.
I can't tell you what to do but if it were me, I'd stick with the Sprint model. But I do love custom ROMs so...
****If you buy a note 4****
Only buy a refurbished or recertified one with a full warranty...
There's reported issues with these phones real or imagined... don't take the risk!!!
Good Luck!
