Hi
Ive been trolling around for a while.
So far ive
-unlocked the bootloader, flashed the boot with epe54b himem from modaco
-put the file in place that enabled the color trackball notifications from chainsdd, which while there is no config and it simply enables the apps to be able to flash different colors is actually kind of nice
- tried to install the wifi tether from the code.google.com page but apparently the kernal i have doesnt work with the wifi drivers the android-wifi-tether app needs and the himem superboot that i flashed cause my wifi doesnt start when i use that. so i just went with barnacle app to use as wifi tether which works without having to modify the kernal and wifi driver.
i still have the stock recovery and stock rom, and sort of like it that way. dont want to start messing with roms untill i am confident i can easily restore all of the phone and game settings i have(the girlfriend was sort of sad when i told her i lost the progress she had made in abduction world attack, not to mention i forgot to unlink my warcraft authenticator before the initial wipe after the bootloader unlock...dreading calling blizzard and getting that sorted out)
couple of questions i have -
what does the userdata store specifically? does it store all of the shortcuts and widgets i have on the home screens? the google voice and phone settings and system settings?
i looked around a bit and still cant find a definitive answer to this, if i put nandroid or amon_ra recovery in as the recovery, then flash it back to the stock recovery from the modaco site, will i be able to get ota updates.
if i back up my system, userdata, and cache then start messing with roms and wiping everything on the phone, will i be able to restore the system, userdata and cache and be ready to go in the all of 3 or so minutes it takes to flash them.
The only reason im so concerned with being able to go back to what i had is i rely on the phone a bit for work and after hours calls and things of that nature and need to be able to be ready to go if need be. after unlocking the bootloader and that initial wipe the part that took the longest was getting the shortcuts and widgets, email and contact icons on my home screens back to where i wanted them and dont want to have to do that again.
basically i want to flash roms, and shop around for a good rom that i like while still being able to flash back to what i currently have set up, home screen shortcuts, k9email, phone and all.
Anyone have any input?
Just get Titanium backup for your apps, and also flash a recovery that lets you do Nandroid backups. Really, if you are unlocked, there is absolutely no downside to using Amon's recovery image, and having backups is excellent piece of mind.
I tried editing my post, and it erased what I wrote.
OK, again:
1. Nandroid backups save everything, including all of your user data, EXCEPT what is saved to the SD card by certain apps. All of that can of course just be copied off.
2. Why would you want OTA updates? All the OTA process does is download the update.zip file into /cache, and then launch recovery to install it from there. This means that, once the file is available, someone will post the update.zip minutes later and you can flash all you like.
3. Nandroid gives you a complete system backup, including user data and configuration. Titanium backup will add in being able to restore configured apps onto a different ROM (for example). Use both, be safe, wear protection.
ok, sounds like nandroid gives me what im looking for then
perhaps i'll try and imaging and restoring it to see how it goes when im sure work will not bother
and i'd like ota updates since im lazy lol
I just bought a Droid X and had it fully flashed to Cricket, now, my question is this: if I flash Froyo will I have to redo all the settings for Cricket so my mms, gps, and internet work? The only reason I am asking is because I didn't flash this phone myself and wouldn't know where to begin even though I have flashed several Hero phones.
Thanks for any input or advice.
I updated my rom to UD7 but before I did that I pulled all of the .apk files that I would need off of my phone so I could install them on the new rom. After the rom was installed I then installed apnbackup and restored my old working apn files to the new rom and everything works just fine. This might not be the correct way of doing things, but it seemed to work for me.
When I install an new ROM, phone only can call out, cann't call in.
Seems install stock ROM then the first time flash 2.3 ROM, phone can call in and out.

Hmp, stick with a rom that works THAT YOU LIKE, not by what I tell you. But did you try these rom's?
- CM v7.0.2?
- GingerSense?
- AOSP 0.9.9.2 Froyo?
- CM6.1-RC2?
- NFX Stock Rom?
- My Sense Roms?
Try all of those and for whichever the phone calls work, take note of that. And then also I'd like for you choose what you like the best. Also did you try the update prl/pri on a sense rom? Try doing it on the rom you're on now
And glad to see it worked for ya bud

FYI the functionality of the dialer is hard-coded into the phone, not each ROM, so if it works at all, it works. Sometimes phone and data issues can be solved by updating PRL and profile as suggested, but it sounds like your issue may have been simply your carrier at the time. If a phone can call out, it can call in, and vice versa. It may have something to do with the fact that you are flashing Sprint ROMs for a Chinese carrier, but who knows. There are a few members in these forums that are on your same chinese carrier and are running aospCMod without issue, one member in particular is called "oldghost", maybe you should PM him and see if he has had any issues, and what ROM best suits the needs of the Chinese version of the heroC. Good luck.

Yes oldghost uses a Chinese carrier and I don't think he had any issues at all. But first try updating the prl/pri
Interesting. I just realized I'm seeing similar since (I think) flashing 4/29 aosp 2.3.3. Thought I had just messed up on a setting or something. Incoming calls are going straight to voicemail. I see them almost immediately in the call log on the phone, but no ring or any other indication. The only other record of the call would be the voicemail notification after a bit.
Now, my assumption here is that I messed up on my last flash, so I'll go back and do a redo, including going back to a sense rom just in case.
I was coming from 4/21 aosp 2.3.3. Before the 4/21, I did get rid of firerats, installed fresh, updated prl (now at 60678) and profile, though I think that's been current for me for a while.
I then installed 4/21 from scratch (fr 110/4).
Radio has been current.
4/29, I just wiped caches and flashed over.
Like I said, I'm sure I just messed up at one of these points. I don't know for sure when I stopped receiving calls. I don't get a lot of them, so it took me a while for the loneliness to kick in. It IS possible that I messed up on the 4/21 even.

Try troubleshooting the problem by doing the following things one at a time to see if they work:
- Try a different radio that works for the SPRINT HERO CDMA ONLY (else you will brick your phone, if you need help finding radios let me know)
- Try without firerat's
- Try wiping everything using the latest official clockwork mod 3.0 after backing up everything
- Try s0be's kernel
- Try the official CM7 v7.0.2
i can come up with more options for you to try one by one but that should last you for about an hour or so
after doing all those let me know what happens
Actually, got this working again.
flashed aosp 2.3.3 4/29 clean, removed firerats, etc (since my next step would have been to put on a sense rom).
clean install seemed to fix the problem. Able to receive calls.
then for fun... did the full factory reset and wipe wipe wipe again, installed this time WITH firerats (100 20), bumped the cache size for the hell of it.
That worked as well. Calls being received. I think something just got hosed, or my original 4/29 install, which was just a cache wipe and flash over, didn't go so well.
Still figure it was user error on my part somewhere along the line, but all is well for me now.

if a rom isn't broke, don't fix it...stick with gingerbread, its fresh out the oven
but seriously if cm7 works, then use it. unless if you really don't like cm7....but i doubt that..i hope
I did a search and found a tutorial by JesusFreke on how to register without a data plan.
However, I have a question.
My sister has a G1 currently running CM 5.0.8
Doesn't CM have an option during registration to switch to wifi? I need this verified before I try. I really dont want to mess with ADB.
Thanks!
im not sure about that specific rom.. but most roms on xda do have the option to choose wifi or even to skip the google sign in so you can turn wifi on after the actual setup... if the device is already rooted you can just keep trying different roms untill you find one with the option to skip the sign in or at least with the wifi option in beggining setup.. if the device is not rooted than you may have trouble flashing roms lol because you cant.. this link has some advice on rooting with or without data plan..

Good afternoon all,
I have an HTC One PN072. I've flashed the phone from Sprint to Cricket. They were very adamant about me not "resetting" the phone as it will remove the information, or flash they've added.
I've done several searches and can't seem to find a thread indicating 1) if this is possible and 2) a guide to doing so. The phone already is rooted and has TWRP on it as well.
If anyone knows of a thread I would love a link to a guide.

I have a Sprint One fully flashed to Verizon and I flash custom ROMs all the time without any problems. I have never lost any settings and I don't even have to re-activate my phone. I would think that as long as you dont use Bootloader to flash a complete RUU image you should be fine. Goin s-off if your not already might cause issues here as well. (If someone knows for sure please correct me) I would say just download a ROM and install it with TWRP. I have updated firmware as well with no issues as well, however the firmware I upgraded with did not contain a radio update, which I am hesitant to do since I imagine that will effect my flash. I did my flash myself but it seems like a headache re-doing it.

The wipes in TWRP usually recommended before flashing a custom rom don't remove their flashed data?

Not that I have ever experienced. That was true on my EVO LTE and has so far been true on my One. I have the newest TWRP and in the past two days I have flashed EclipticOne, Elegencia and Insert Coin. On my old Droids Clockwork recoveries reset worked fine as well. DONT do a factory reset from inside the ROM. I have not tried it on my One, but on my EVO and my Droid 1/2/3 phones that would undo parts of a flash and I would have to reactivate. If I were you I would just work within my current firmware and flash what was available.
It is possible for you to flash your phone back to Cricket for free but its requires a lot of setup and can be a real pain in the ass. Getting 3G on Verizon was particularly painful and I have many screen shots and pages of notes on the actual procedure. When I upgraded from my EVO to the One I managed to get it right the first time by following my notes but it was still a serious hassle.

i was thinking about getting my one flashed to verizon but how does it work?? say i get my phone flashed.. is it verizon pre paid?? does that come with unlimited data?? text & talk?? how much would my bill be a month? sorry for all the questions
I apologize, so just to be as clear as possible, if you follow all of the wipes that roms usually ask you to perform in TWRP then you should be fine? However, do not perform a factory reset in the rom itself once loaded?
Doing a wipe through TWRP's wipe feature is fine as long as you dont go into 'Advanced' and mess with settings. Do not do the factory reset within the ROM once the ROM is loaded. If, while installing a ROM, the installer wants to do a wipe, that is fine as well.
