i honestly have no clue but i do know that you cant set the min as the same as the max. i tried and it said your min cannot be the same as max lolol

really?!?!?! hmmmm... i'll have to try again. maybe my phone has ADD?
i heard that its not safe.. rumor has it that if you keep it like that for more then 3 days then your phone could spontaneous combust while talking on it on the 3rd day..
i would think running your phone at 768 all the time would kill your battery rather quickly?? what temp is your battery at regularly and how long are u gettin on a full charge with that kinda OC???

This is my first day doing this. I'll let you know how it goes.
ive ran mine @ 768 for over a month with no problems. I do have it set to 245/384 with the screen off though
768 for a month straight no issues so far.. 768 max 245 min..and 384/245 while screen off..
temps never get over 100C..

and i would hope your battery temp would never get anywhere near 100C

lol opps.. didnt see that..
Here, read this
I dont think so. 710 seems to be a safer bet. I ran 768 and if there was high load my phone would randomly reboot. Sure some users are reporting that it is running fine for them, but if it has problem for other users I would assume that 768 is on the high end.
710 vs 768 I dont see much of a difference.
Why in the world would you do this? Do you really need it running at 768 when you're sleeping? Wouldn't this just chew through batteries?
Which app are you all using SETCPU or the overclock widget ?
sent from my cricKet hero using the XDA app
I don't want to be 'that guy' but... that's just crazy and totally unnecessary if you ask me. But, to each his/her own
I've got mine clocked to 729 max, 537 min @ ondemand and it's perrrfect!
I am not gonna mess with the sleeping clocks

I run 768/748 with the screen on and when the screen turns off it's running at 556/245. Running beautifully and I have 24+ hour battery life
SETCPU is $2 Right?
Is there a free app?
Will this work on any rooted ROM on the hero?
Thanks

Yes, it is free for xda members:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=505419
just scroll to the attachments of the first post.
The market app is there if you want to donate.
What's important for it to work is not the ROM, but if have an overclockable kernel (designated as [OC] usually), which is almost any I believe. Actually since SetCPU v2 you CAN use it for stock ROM and kernel too (but you have to adjust a setting after every reboot). Read about it in the link, it's the new beta feature called "perflock disabler."

I'm not sure if I actually have it even though I did install it. My battery temp is about 30c and higher. People have been saying they get 24 on the charger. And my battery time is about the same. My about phone says its the UV kernel but how can I really check?

if you don't trust the about screen...
-open up terminal and type cat /proc/version
Try using profiles in setcpu. I keep the frequencies low when charging or when not active (phone is locked, sleeping, etc) which increases battery life and keeps the phone cool.
Check in phone settings (About the phone, or whatever it's called in english) for your kernel version. Yo should see kmobs after cyanogenmod (if you're on cm).
Well i bought setcpu and started using that a little. and the cat version did come back with kmobs so thats good. What do you recommend for profiles?
sleep standby 245/245 on demand
charging 600/245 on demand
power under 10 400/245 on demand
Sweet thanks
btw what is ondemand? compared to the others?
on demand: it only goes to the max clockrate if needed
performance: always on the max clockrate
thats what I figured out.
userspace: i dont really know. I'd like to know if its better to put standby 245/245 userspace instead of ondemand

Wtf i totally didn't know that. Well payday so i dont mind i guess
So im running the RoDrIgUeZsTyLe froyo with the oc kernal and was playing around with Overclock widget and noticed that it will goto 1.2ghz..i know the kernel was for 1113ghz. Anyone tried using the higher setting? Would it be safe to just try it or ?
thanks
what for a wiget allows 1,2 Ghz ???
Overclock widget on the market
If u go into click here to define it allows 1.2ghz
heres a screenshot taken by shoot me
Even if you set it to 1200 it'll only let your device go as high as 1113. Give it a try
Edit: just saw your screen shot. That's interesting.

yes you can set it to 1,2 Ghz but you get just 1,114 Ghz not more
better to use setCPU the widget is not working right...
damn your right....i thought maybe it would work but ya i tried and just goes right back to 1113...oh well
thanks
Lol

u know i was using setcpu and i was charging my phone earlier while on a phone call and all of a sudden my temp went up to 104F
was set at 1113mhz....i've had it set at before and never had any temp issues the highest its ever climbed was like 97F...i know the back of the phone was hotter than all hell
just out of curiosity how come the Moto Droid uses a slower cpu than the nexus but yet the droid can be overclocked way past the nexus?
How would you know? I heard hell is very hot these days. Lol.
Its nothing unusual. Your phone is over clocked, you're charging and using your phone.
I suggest you lower down the Max freq while on charge.

hi I was wondering how high you can over clock your hero. I have to 758 mhz and it is perfectly stable. Is there any thing i can use to over clock it more.
768 is the highest I've seen.
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
I've heard that 710 is really the highest you can reliably run, I wouldn't risk the damage just to go that little bit higher.
Sent from my HERO200 using Tapatalk
Thats all I have seen to. I did here that you could get it a little over 900 MHz.
LOL, it would probably catch on fire at 900.

I'm sorry, but I don't believe this.
Mine is closked to 691 and it totally stable. If I push to 710 it starts to become less stable.
Can you show us screenprints ?
Im running 2.2. ShootMe doesn't work on this rom, go download and test for yourself.
im also running 2.2. if you wanna try it out for yourself download ([Rom] Darchdroid v2.7 "KangSlayer" | Complete, OC'd, MMS, Camera, Everything!!) I am at 768 MHz. I use setcpu, profiles. when the screen is off its at 518 MHz.
sry because i am new i cant poste urls

Mine is stable at 787 also.. Ever hero is different.. Iv also been running OC since the day toastcfh figured it out over 2 months ago. I have ran 768mhz min and max for an entire day with no problem (i was benchmarking and forgot). Some people cant even run 710mhz without there phone becoming unstable.
Also 768mhz is the clock speed most kernels are maxed at cuz the highest clock speed the hero can be clocked to with a benefit is 768mhz (darch will include 787 in his kernels sometimes). 787mhz will actually give the same or worse results as 768 because it, in a sense, clogs the CPU. We cant raise our FSB of the cpu.
Toastcfh, the reason who got us OC, has actually pushed it as far as he could go. He got way higher then 787. But like i said, there is not benefit of it.
Our phones wont blow up or stop working because the speeds are high. If you keep the temps down you really dont have anything to worry about, temps are the main reason why OC will kill the life of a CPU.
Awesome Information, Thanks.

I much prefer set cpu, as it's more customizable and since the battery tweak was slow and a battery killer for me.

That is what showed under about phone in the menu in the battery stats today. That is with wi-fi turned off for abot 1/2 of the time and same for data roaming. I haven't run the battery down to zero as yet after flashing the kernal yet.I'll do that tomorrow after work.

Nevermind...I found your recommendations on another thread...I set it up and my quadrant score went from 300 to 457! It was 400 on kernel 9 using battery tweak...went down to 300 on #11, also on tweak....I got rid of that and was blown away by a score of 457 and in Neo I am getting over 30fps and high 5's in linpack...my hero is flying!!
I can't thank you enough! !

Comparison of Battery Tweak and SetCpu
Tweak Tool (based on battery tweak) Set to be released running on almost any android phone later this year (with tons of new features, I attached a little sneak preview (subject to change blah blah blah))
Also I've never gotten good battery life with setcpu, with tweak tool I'm getting about 2-3 day life. That's good right?

You would technically get the same results if you set the battery tweak up in the same fashion
Perhaps it is because I always used a preset on battery tweak rather than customizing it...
On set CPU what should I have the scaling set to? They default to on demand, however, do I want to set the screen off profile to power save?

What are the best settings to use on the droid 3 for overclocking?
Sent from my DROID3 using Tapatalk
I don't know the best settings, but I set it my SetCPU too low for my "ScreenOff" settings... So sometimes when I tried to turn my screen back on, my phone wouldn't have enough cpu power to turn itself back on... so make sure you don't set governors too low! easy enough fix though when you do.
don't think you can overclock until custom kernals are out.

Correct, but you can still set governors to under-clock and help battery-life.
I set my droid 3 to 800 mhz max, 300 mhz min, but the widget doesnt change, and if i open the app i can watch it jump to 1000 mhz. I have used setCPU on other phones, so I know how to work it.
Does setcpu not work with moto's hotplug governor? I've seen other forums say not to change that
If you set it to 300 and 800 or 600 using "ondemand" it works but the phone gets a little laggy.
Using "motplug" and trying to underclock freezes the device for me.
You can pull the battery to get it working again.
Sent from my rooted Droid 3 (Xda-Premium)
I looks like if you set the governor to anything but mot_hotplug the second core does not get deactivated with the phone is idle. So battery life may actually suffer.

I experienced this as well, but was using ondemand and 300-600 with screen off. Phone wouldn't turn on at all unless a battery pull was performed, scared me a bit to be honest until i realized what was happening. Decided to stick wit mot_hotplug until we get a custom kernel.
