I much prefer set cpu, as it's more customizable and since the battery tweak was slow and a battery killer for me.

That is what showed under about phone in the menu in the battery stats today. That is with wi-fi turned off for abot 1/2 of the time and same for data roaming. I haven't run the battery down to zero as yet after flashing the kernal yet.I'll do that tomorrow after work.
Mac
I'm downloading it right now...can anyone recommend good settings?

Nevermind...I found your recommendations on another thread...I set it up and my quadrant score went from 300 to 457! It was 400 on kernel 9 using battery tweak...went down to 300 on #11, also on tweak....I got rid of that and was blown away by a score of 457 and in Neo I am getting over 30fps and high 5's in linpack...my hero is flying!!
I can't thank you enough! !

Well then, time to pull out the big guns
Comparison of Battery Tweak and SetCpu
Tweak Tool (based on battery tweak) Set to be released running on almost any android phone later this year (with tons of new features, I attached a little sneak preview (subject to change blah blah blah))
Also I've never gotten good battery life with setcpu, with tweak tool I'm getting about 2-3 day life. That's good right?

You would technically get the same results if you set the battery tweak up in the same fashion
Perhaps it is because I always used a preset on battery tweak rather than customizing it...
On set CPU what should I have the scaling set to? They default to on demand, however, do I want to set the screen off profile to power save?

really?!?!?! hmmmm... i'll have to try again. maybe my phone has ADD?
i heard that its not safe.. rumor has it that if you keep it like that for more then 3 days then your phone could spontaneous combust while talking on it on the 3rd day..
i would think running your phone at 768 all the time would kill your battery rather quickly?? what temp is your battery at regularly and how long are u gettin on a full charge with that kinda OC???

768 for a month straight no issues so far.. 768 max 245 min..and 384/245 while screen off..
temps never get over 100C..

Here, read this
I dont think so. 710 seems to be a safer bet. I ran 768 and if there was high load my phone would randomly reboot. Sure some users are reporting that it is running fine for them, but if it has problem for other users I would assume that 768 is on the high end.
710 vs 768 I dont see much of a difference.
Why in the world would you do this? Do you really need it running at 768 when you're sleeping? Wouldn't this just chew through batteries?
Which app are you all using SETCPU or the overclock widget ?

I don't want to be 'that guy' but... that's just crazy and totally unnecessary if you ask me. But, to each his/her own

SETCPU is $2 Right?
Is there a free app?
Will this work on any rooted ROM on the hero?
Thanks

Yes, it is free for xda members:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=505419
just scroll to the attachments of the first post.
The market app is there if you want to donate.
What's important for it to work is not the ROM, but if have an overclockable kernel (designated as [OC] usually), which is almost any I believe. Actually since SetCPU v2 you CAN use it for stock ROM and kernel too (but you have to adjust a setting after every reboot). Read about it in the link, it's the new beta feature called "perflock disabler."
I am getting annoyed with the speed of my Sprint Hero. the lag on the dialer is really annoying me, I hit dial and wait 5-10 seconds before the phone actually dials then it does the stupid vibrate after the call is ringing already.
Sometimes I think i did not hit the call button so i hit it again, and nothing happens for a while then suddenly I get 2 calls going at the same time to the same person.
I am rooted and running a 2.1ROM but I forgot which one, but it doesnt have any special features besides the super user app and htc sense.
Im willing to settle for something with out sense as long as it speeds up the phone.
I am even considering if its possible to unroot and to whatever 2.1 version sprint has out now and hope it fixes things.
Please let me know which ROM I should try, I dont care about sense, live wallpapers, special animations, just make the phone quicker.
cyanogen 2.2 mod is the best...overclock it to 768
Well, I assure you that using stock 2.1 will *not* fix your problems, especially lag issues. Better to stick to modded ROMs, to be honest.
After trying a few ROMs, I came to love ZenEXP. And with the 0.9.7 release that just came out, it seems like things have gotten even faster. You're rooted, so... do a nand backup, and give it a shot. Try Cyanogen too, as the last person said.

Please note that not every Hero will tolerate 768 on the processor. Really, seems only a select few can run it without stability issues. Mine will freeze instantly if set any higher than 710. This is why the new CM6 is clocked at 691, so everyone can boot it, and so it is rock solid. If you can get 768, then you are one of the lucky ones!

How do you get it to 768? I'm using setCPU and it peaks at 528
My max is 678.. but I put it at 652. Should I just max it out at 678?
Never mind its 691.. I maxed it.. I wont have a problem with battery overheating right?

The app that you use to manage your OC speed doesn't determine how fast your processor will actually run, it's all based on the kernel embedded (or flashed) onto your phone. If you're running stock 2.1 then SetCPU will only show your max speed as 528mhz because that's how fast the stock kernel is. Other ROMs like DarchDroid and CM6 have kernels that boost the max speed to over 700mhz. If you install one of those then you'll see massive speed improvements to your phone and with SetCPU you can either leave the kernel to allow for maximum speed or you can throttle it down if your phone becomes unstable and can't handle it.

Wow, thanks for the tip. I'm running the stock 2.1 atm because I haven't found a rom that combines both live wallpapers and multitouch yet. I play games on my phone often, probably too often, and I have to be able to use two fingers. The live wallpaper thing is just because I think it looks really cool, especially that mario one.

Ok so I've had the inc s for a few days (got stolen) so now I'm using a friends inc s until I buy a new one.
Anyways.. the battery life is dissapointing on this phone, but others say its great. I had the atrix with the huge battery, and the g2x with tegra 2, so maybe I've been spoiled by them.
But I've only been able to get 3hrs 50min screen on time with this phone on the android revolution Rom + sense 3 mods. On my atrix and g2x I could get 5-6 hrs of screen on time..
Is it my Rom/kernal? If so what is the most battery efficient kernal for you?
Plz help! Please!! Haha

A full day of very high usage.
Probably two of moderate.
I would suggest setting max clock to 998 and min to 122
Thanks man. I figured out it was just the battery needing conditioning. Now everything is good.

I'm still trying to figure out why people like to overclock. Is it just for benchmark sake? I've overclocked plenty on my desktop and my old phone and always revert back to stock clock speeds because the difference was almost always a placebo effect that only showed up in benchmarks. Rarely ever a change in real world use.
If you want to know how long I've been tinkering with clock speeds, the first overclock I did was on a Pentium 3 550 I overclocked to 800.

Bragging rights its the only reason I used to over clock.

I would prefer to under volt at stock clock speeds to help out with battery life. First and foremost it's a phone. Secondly it's whatever you want it to be (MP3 player, camera, game player, movie player), so battery life is always the issue for me. While I get all day with my current phone (Captivate), I don't like being down to 15-27% at the end of the day.
My contract is up in March so looking at Vivid or Nitro HD as replacements for my Captivate.
I have only been overclocking my Aria because I used my wife's Inspire and got jealous of the snappiness. I use Tasker as my CPU speed selector and it is set to always return to max stock speed if the display gets turned off.

Quadrant is pretty garbage imo. I keep seeing videos on youtube of 2 phones starting quadrant at the same time, 1 phone finishing 5-10 seconds ahead of the other but still losing the benchmark #'s with most results (fps in the testing) appearing the same. If it was decent the faster phone would always get the higher benchmark, 2 phones render 1k frames, phone 1 in 10 seconds, phone 2 in 20, fps on phone 1 must be higher... etc etc I'd try maybe smartbench or glbenchmark
