[Q] Phone won't update profile and PRL

Starting yesterday morning I don't receive texts from certain contacts. Phone is rooted, stock, and s-off. For some reason the phone will not update the profile or prl. Spent time with advanced tech support and they recommended trying to update will Sprint service and not my Airave - which I tried and no joy. As per tech support I took it the Sprint store and they don't know what to do other than a factory reset. Will a reset lose root and s-off? I have what I need backed up....... I did flash the latest OTA yesterday (used a zip and RUU) with no change.
Thanks.

Did you try updating prl and profile on wifi?
Sent from my lair.
Yes, it doesn't update.

Still no way to enable wi-fi hotspot?

I know the verizon version is now able to enable hotspot but it their anyway for the AT&T version as of right now? can any third party app do it? I've tried PDAnet/foxfi but it gives me an error.

Maybe a third party app off the store?
Im not sure what you guys are trying to do, but for me to turn on mobile hotspot, I just go to Settings>Connections>Mobile Hotspot and Tethering>Mobile Hotspot>click the button to on... it works just fine.

I think it's still locked via that route if you're on an old data plan. Not sure, as I've been on a new plan for a while now.

Yes, for people like myself who are still grandfathered in to unlimited data. By default, wifi tethering is disabled. The above link provides a mod to enable it.

Third-party wi-fi tether apps
Any third-party tether apps (not USB -- I want a wi-fi router) confirmed to work on rooted AT&T S6 running AOCE? I see this is for AOE2 ROM, but I rooted already and really don't want to go through all the app/settings re-do by flashing back to stock and then flashing AOE2 if I can help it. I'll pay $2 or $3 for an app if someone can confirm it works on AOCE...

I've not seen/heard anything that would work on OCE, but if your rooted why not titanium backup, or back up data in flashfire then use Odin to flash OE2. After reroot and restore data?

I was asking in another thread for confirmation that I could do that, in fact. If I can flash AOE2 over the top, then the path to tethering is easy (by way of backing up what I can). Have only had the S6 for 27 hours, but I've already done a fair number of customizations -- but I can re-do them if need be.
Just to double-check, I can (or can not?), coming from AOCE baseband:
- TB / backup data
- ODIN to push AOE2 on
- PingPong to re-root
- restore data/config
- tether for the win
???
I say with 95% certainty you can. I have not tried it but it should work. I can't imagine why it wouldn't.
It's best to go with OE2 and get it over with. You'll benefit from the memory leak fix and have greater battery life. I done it and I got the Wifi tether hack working on my unlimited data plan. There was an option to restore apps when I went from stock AT&T ROM (OE2) to CleanROM 1.1 (OE2), but I'm not sure how it was backed up in the first place. I elected to just start fresh and clean. Didn't take much time from me to redo a lot of the apps (e.g., redownload, reconfigure). Worse case, you can risk flashing the hack on the OCE and see what happens, but better back up everything first before doing so.

[q] lmy47d > lyz28e?

I have a Nexus 6 I got from Tmobile. For some reason I am on LMY47D. I haven't manually installed any updates, just OTAs the phone received automatically.
I want to use Tmobile wifi calling, and I read I need to go to LYZ28E to make it happen, but I have the non-tmobile specific software currently, so it looks like I am in no-mans-land.
What would be the proper way to get onto the Tmobile software track? Do I have to wipe/reinstall everything?

T-Mobile 5.1.1 update?

I have a t-mobile purchases N6 that is running rooted stock. This morning I got the message that the 5.1.1 update was available and I let it download but since I am running TWRP, nothing happened at reboot which is what you would expect. Can I just install the rom that downloads? I know there is a rooted stock rom available but I sometimes use wifi calling. I don't care if I lose root but I want to make sure I don't brick my phone.
I think more than anything I don't want to keep looking at the notification that tells me there is a new version and it won't go away.
You won't be able to flash the OTA file since you made modifications to /system. It will just fail The OTA is just a patch and not a full image.
If you want to update to 5.1.1, you'll need to flash the image or a custom ROM.
Ok thanks! Other than losing WiFi calling, is there any issue with flashing the international ROM to a T-Mobile phone? I know T-Mobile has a weird band that isn't always connected with all radios, at least on other phones.
if you want wifi calling and 5.1.1, install the t-mobile specific rom here:

You can install international versions and have it work on T-Mobile. If you want all the features, flash this latest version.

How to flash firmware without losing data

So, I'm stuck on android 9 with my lovely phone, because AT&T couldn't put one and one together and make OTA updates work. I'm on Android 9 and the phone along with smartswitch insists that i'm on latest update. I do have valuable data on my phone though, so i would prefer not to lose it. Is there a way for me to flash an update to the phone without losing my data? Also, my device is an AT&T SM-N960U, which would be the appropriate firmware for it?
Always keep your data redundantly backed up.
You should be glad you're on Pie.
Pie is fast and stable.
