This forum along with a few others running the newer vbulletin now are very choppy when scrolling on my nexus. I see that there are many new active dynamic components, like web 2.0ish, so it seems these bog down the browser more than before. Is this something with the browser not being optimized with this newest format? Or will it be like this forever?
Majority of websites I visit are smooth as can be. But just these new upgrades like xda and howardforums that have been upgraded are really choppy and slow.
bump this up. nobody have any issue with this?

Yep, which is why I reverted back to the old style
exactly, I did the same when browse using N1
it seems new UI heavy with CSS and javascript
same here i changed back but im kind of jealous of my cousin's iPad zipping through like butter and my nexus one lagging behind...
is this something that google can update the browser to acomodate? or is it just the way it is for the webkit browser...?

I know when to use desktop but is there ever a reason to set my browser to iPhone instead of android? It strikes me as odd that my stock android browser has that option so I became curious...I searched google with no luck. I'm on my phone so I couldn't search xda (something else that strikes me as odd - whole different thread though)
Before android was as popular, some times you would want to use iPhone versions of sites. Now that android is popular enough there are versions for it as well, so not much need anymore.

Simple enough. Thank you
I've had my Nexus S since it came out and I've been having terrible, consistent lag in the broswer. Even when I'm trying to view websites for mobile devices.
I understand that it can be laggy while the page is still loading but after its done it still lags. Choppy all over while scrolling. Pinch to zooming is also very choppy. My.Nexus One handled web browsing better with more framerates and less chop.
I've tried a factory reset and some other things
Anyone else having this issue?

same to me, very very disappointed with nexus s. from what i read so far there is no fix at all. i might switch back to Nexus one with snapdragon processor.
Hmm, I'm not experiencing this. Do you guys have flash installed, and if so, do you have it set to "On Demand"?
Ya, im really not getting any sort of browser lag, at least nothing that i didnt experience in the N1
I just picked mine up and do indeed experience browser lag before and after going to the market and installing flash 10.1. I set it to on demand for now, which fixes that problem, but I wish it would just work.
I also don't have much lag, but sometimes it is noticeable when flicking through apps. Install a task killer (like Advanced Task Killer) and see how much free RAM you have on top. That's most likely your issue. This phone has a painstakingly low amount of available RAM for us to use towards open apps. Cyanogen's ROMs usually double the amount, so can't wait for it to drop.
Try movies.com and tba.com. very lag
Sent from my Nexus S
It is the flash, not optimized for Hummingbird CPU, same on the Vibrant Froyo.

Today I have seen this hands on:
Look at 2:10 - isn't this too much lag ? I went to same page with my current HTC Desire and it scrolls up and down with almost no lag.
I'm good here without the lag as well.
I uninstalled Flash Player just to see if it still did it and it does. Its very bad, almost unusable.. even on mobile pages.

Its because flash is not optimised for gingerbread yet, nothing more, nothing less
all will be solved in an update

no thats not it.
its the stupid GPU that needs an driver update so the browser can use the gpu for better performance. the galaxy S has the same stupid issue
the desire hd and as far as i know the G2 has much better scrolling due to the gpu assist in the browsing.
you cant count on samsung to do anything right really .
Eh, are you trolling here? Sorry, for asking that question.
Do you own Samsung Galaxy S? I guess not.

no i am not really. and yeah i did own a galaxy S. and now my bro who live with me has DHD. i was being serious. its not a 2.3 issue. because it lagged bad at 2.2 as well on galaxy S .. all it need is a driver. or some of the good guys here to fix it. like voodoo lag fix for example. but for the browser
you are not noticing . its not 2.3 with the issue. its the gpu it self. we are both agreeing that a driver can fix this. but a driver is for the hardware. not the 2.3 lol
Yes, it could be.
And Samsung did fix that in the 2.2.1 update.
So, whatever that fix is ... it is NOT in the 2.3 on Nexus S (specifically).
I agree with you, this is not 2.3 specific issue, but Nexus S (because of the GPU).
However, still, I blame Google for this Nexus S browser lag issue. They are responsible for the software in the Nexus S.
Just hope it will be updated like the SGS 2.2.1.

Im still feeling its a Gingerbread/Flash issue... Ogdobber posted a temp fix earlier on this board, see if it fixes for you guys, if it does, it will prove this hypothesis.

100% agree.
This was repeated enough times:
This is NOT a gingerbread issue.
This problem was also present in the SGS and was fixed by Samsung in the latest 2.2.1 release.
This problem was also present in the Galaxy Tab and was fixed in the latest leaked firmware.
This problem is currently in the Nexus S and needs to be fixed.
I don't know how exactly Samsung fixed it, but it looks like they enabled some sort of GPU acceleration in the browser.
For now, just use autokiller (needs root), set it to aggressive and the browser won't lag too much anymore.
This has already been covered with explanations in earlier threads. Just search. It will be fixed with an update.
It's a problem with the browser and hummingbird CPU combo. Software will fix it soon enough.
I won't start another thread for this but is anyone losing cellular data ability when on a phone call?
I live in a good 3G area and thought this phone could do data/calls at the same time like my nexus one. The nexus s seems to drop data transferring completely.

Is this true? Or just a rumor or some stupid topic someone decided to open?
anyone know?

Why don't ask this question in the according thread instead of creating a new one?
BTW: I use Opera Mobile and think it's far far better.
1. Versions 7.0 and 7.1 report the URLs that you visit to some server. After much complainnig from users, the programmers fixed this in Version 7.2. I downloaded it yesterday.
2. What is better about Opera Mobile?
Rendering performance, scrolling and zooming speed is the fastest available yet.
Just curious. Please share your thought.
Quite smooth. Apart from a second of lag when application is just launched. No flash.

Stock ics browser seems to have better performance.
(on chinese release)
chrome beta- nice ui
buttery smooth
but no user-agent option
no flash support
no exit button in menu
One force close otherwise works on the Chinese leak. I like the tabs.
I like Chrome more than the stock browser. The way it zooms subtly when filling in entries, etc. This should have been the stock browser for Android.
installed it. quite good actually. but the adblock software does not work on it. doesn't help if you are on a limited bandwidth subscription from your carrier.
i'll stick with it, otherwise opera mini for those websites that are 'blocked' by my carrier.
It's been an amazing experience and chrome beta works smooth... There is nt much lag also and quite fun...
Lots of feedback!
I am jealous. I didn't tried the first ICS leak. Waiting for standard leak!
I find Chrome Beta to be better than the Chinese stock browser, mostly because it looks good. Speed wise it might be a bit slower though, but not by much. I like how it zooms into some tricky areas where a lot of links are confined into a small space(Page index for example)
Im loving chrome browser. I have no complaints. Dont have to worry about losing bookmarks and such now and its extremely smooth.

i have tried but to be honest i didnt like. I prefer opera mobile browser
So now that I finally got it working, it just looks like they changed some interface elements. Which I personally don't think look as nice as in 4.3 (those rounded popups that notify you of, say, when a program is granted root, look awful, as do the icons in the pulldowns now; like they went in the direction of MS and tried to make things more monotone). Is there something I'm missing here? I mean I know on the back end a lot of APIs had changes and additions so I can see it being mandatory for certain programs, but beyond that....better battery? sleeker interface? even more buttery smooth? I mean the user experience....
i haven't received the update yet

I think it feels a bit smoother than 4.3 for me, I wasn't one of the people who had problems with 4.2.2. I think you're right about the interface changes though, they are subtle but in places they changed to the monotone look but left some of the blue holo stuff in there too like they couldn't make up there mind. Waiting to see how battery goes, certainly doesn't seem any worse so far.

Yep, its not going to magically last for weeks with 10+ hrs of screen time lol but it seems grand. Feel a bit underwhelmed after googles 'kitkat for everyone' talk and then we (n7 2012 users) don't have the ART option or the GEL launcher. I know you can install the apk, I actually use nova which now has the transparent top and bottom bars features but found it confusing after updating from 4.3 and seeing the same launcher!

At least the Alarm Clock and Google Now issues are fixed.
The stock 4.4 was really bad, graphics lag so much its not usable, I was coming from Purity Rom/Franco kernel. Now that I'm on AOSP 4.4 its much better, at least back to the same as Purity before, not noticeably better but at least not unusable like the stock one. Somewhat disappointing I guess.

You can find the new launcher in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=47031599
It's called launcher 3. It's the launcher from the nexus 5 build of 4.4 without Google now and the keyboard popup when you press home. If you want the one with Google now you can extract it from gapps(I extracted it from PA odexed).

Me personally, am unimpressed. Seems that Google is starting to follow Apple's upgrade methodology... Make people wait a year, put out a "new" OS that just has some updated icons, leave out features on all but the latest devices to get people to upgrade their hardware and call it a day.
Fail.

it's supposed to have better memory management and smoother amongst other things, I've yet to install it as I really like SlimROM 4.3
I like the cloud printing. Its nice to be able to print stuff straight off my phone or tablet and have it sitting on the printer when i get home.
I'm running stock rooted. Only lag I notice is when pressing home to exit the app drawer. Scrolling is smooth, etc.
