Hi. Has anyone got any experience for which radio they like best in UK on Orange?
My priorities are as follows...
1) Half decent phone / internet reception
2) Quick GPS lock
3) Good battery life (this is still fairly important!)
Thanks... if you have any pointers that would be great / save me the work!
Drunken thanks in advance...
James
look in the ultimate radio thread.
I don't think there's that level of detail on here to find it out. I'm using 1.65.24.36 gps is quick. phone is very good including great speaker phone mic pickup which was crap with my old radio (it was a 1.27 one from official vodafone rom).
I'm not sure how it stands up to battery. It depends how much you use it...
with 3g on (HSPDA enabled) constantly it's below 9 hours.
Would love to know how other orange uk users get on.
FYI I think the radio in the new official 6.1 rom is 1.65.16.25.
Also I used 1.64.08.21 which is supposed to be a good one in general but my phone vibrated to death.

orange UK running ROMeOS v4.1

I've since tried the 1.71.09.01. very good reception but complaints of battery drain. I didn't use it long enough to find out about the drain. I've also tried radio from the new official rom which is actually 1.65.16.25. seems ok so far. slightly worse reception than others and this might be an indicator that battery life is good
I have just finished trying five after it was suggested and it was a terrible experience for me.. how about you? what radio is best.
I've tried ALL radios here around, and for me the best is .07, GSM signal is perfect, GPS fix very quick, battery life almost the same compared to .05, but I don't use 3G so I can't say for that.
bye,
davide
I use the 1.03.25.18
and it's fast like Hell, fast GPS fix (10 sec.), signal the best of all.(for me it is)

I tried that version too but sometimes my phone crashed, never happened to you?

in the poll you ask "Which radio do you use", but in the 1rst post you say "what radio is best".
common knowledge says .05 is the best. just search the forum if in doubt

6 months!? You've had the diamond since april? and i thought I was early..
Hi,
Can i just ask, can people please state what country they are in when recommending radio roms as some of the available radios are designed for europe.
My second question is, can i flash a new radio without damaging my current rom configuration? (i.e. if i install a new radio will i need to reinstall all of my apps to my rom?)
thanks for your help
No, you are quite safe to flash a radio rom - it won't harm your installed items.
However, you do need Hard-SPL and that will hard reset your device

thanks for the info, i already have hard spl, i put that on the first time i booted my diamond!
i am uk voda user i use radio .07 and have found it far better than 05. gps fix is quicker but more importantly the wifi connection is more stable for me. i am using swiftbl rom 6.2 hope this helps
Started with .03, tried .07 and .08, currently use .05, but I'll try .07 again as it 'felt' like it had the best combination of reception, GPS lock and battery life for me.
.05 here, only one ive flashed myself (default came with .03) and its so much better that i haven't wanted to change or try any others

I have read the forum.. extensively..
For me .05 was not the best (with Duttys v2 rom) .. so that's the question.. what do you use.. whats best for you and your current setup.
one thing i am confused with is the fact that there are alot more radios than in the pole, see below:
Radio v1.00.25.03
Radio v1.00.25.05 (Quad Band,Save Power and have better Network Connection!) "Highly Recommended"
Radio v1.00.25.06 (Quad Band)
Radio v1.00.25.07 (Provided by duttythroy )
Radio v1.02.25.11 (Provided from Bepe )
Radio v1.03.25.18 (Provided from Bepe )
If your going to pole this thread, include all radios!!
Another thing i would like to bring your attention to, in your pole there is this radio: 1.00.25.08 Where is this available? i cannot find it anywhere!
Also maybe someone can explain this to me, i was under the impression that as new radios were developed/released they would be improvements based on the most current radio.
Using this thought process surely that would mean that Radio v1.03.25.18 would be the most up-to-date radio? (or does it not work like that?)
bennec83 dutty has a 08 radio on his download page..
the reason for not listing those others was because I expected 07 and 05 to be the only real contenders (and the others are ones I have tried)..
This seems to be born out by the current results..
Also I left the 'other' selection for the remainder

I have an company contract with O2, so I get the new Phones 3 to 4 months befor the out for all. ( If I ask nicely )
Ghostrider
I'm on 2nd day of .08 (from dutty) radio and this one perform well such as .07 but I suppose something has improved .07 + .01 = .08
gps fix is really quick (at least from warm start) and the signal strength is really good (in open space always 7/8 sat)
just for note I use tomtom v7 and rom + radio in my signature

Currently using the 05.. But I agree with you Ghostrider. The 1.03.25.18 is fast as a lightning and battery time is jus wonderful, but I experiencing the hang problem, I think it might be connected to the Hard-SPL im using, it's 1.3(x)
.18 gave problems here too... now I'm running .08 (from dutty) and ALL is working very well, for what I've understood .08 ver comes from diamond 3G (us ver)
Hi all,
I have some problems with TIM ROM RADIO.
The signal level is low. ( my wi-fi router is netgear and the signal on my PC is Excellent but on my PPC touch HD is bad).
Im not satisfy of that...............
The quality signal is bad.
When I've tryed all Radio functions seems work good only BT and GPS.
I've installed ROM cocked DIB 1.0 without problems.
Can someone give me a link to download a new and working ROM RADIO ?
Thk / Regards
Mike
One of the first posts in this forum has links to various radios... Try here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=466274 there are 3 different radios you can try...
Have you tryed them?
There is a better ROM RADIO?
thk for link
Yes, and looking at quite a lot of posts in the forum it looks like 1.10.25.25 is the one to go for at the moment, although some radios work better than others depending on what country and network you are on.
I think you should try 1.10.25.25 and 1.9.25.35 and check your signal strength, GPS fix time and battery life and then decide what is best for you..
Please consult the radio thread for questions related to radios.
Thread now closed.
I lost my 3G that I had with a stock ROM. Can I find information about each radio before I flash it? Does it matter what ROM I have on what radio I can use? I am using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=562952
AFAIK, every radio does the same: takes care about GSM (and 3G), WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS.
Not sure about FM reception...
I used all from 1.13 to 1.17, and I'm not sure which one is better for me, 1.14 or 1.17.
1.14 has a little less battery consumption, but 1.17 is extremly fast in GPS lock with more power consumption.
So it's best to test radios to see which is best fit for you...
Hi,
please excuse my stupid question - I'm a newbie and English is not my first language:
What exactly does the term "radio" refer to? I only know it as in "listening to a radio station". Is that it or does the term actually refer to the cell phone signals?
I guess the answer to the first question also helps with the remaining questions I have:
There are tons of threads about flashing of the radio (like: "[Resources] Rhodium GSM Radio Collection"), but what do they actually do?
Which radio version should I get (I'm from Germany using O2)? The above mentioned thread says I need to look up the region in the wiki, but the wiki leads back to that exact same thread.
Thanks in advance, Google just gave me a bunch of sites about streaming radio to my phone, but somehow I don't think that is the whole story.
Edit: I did some more research and then I googled for GSM, I got on to the right track. So this is definitely not about listening to my favorite station on better quality.
However, I still wonder why to upgrade and if so, which version...
The cell phone "radio" refers to both the hardware and the software used to send/receive signals over the cell network. GPS also uses the same radio. When talking about flashing the radio, the software component of this is being referred to. Flashing a different radio can (possibly) improve cell reception, as well as battery life (phone constantly trying to connect will drain the battery, flashing a new radio can help alleviate this).
What radio is "best" if often geographically dependent. Also, the newer radios tend to work better than older ones, but that's not always the case. Perhaps somebody in Germany can provide guidance on this radio works the best in your area.

I see, thank you!
So since I do want to make the best use of the GPS (hopefully with TomTom), this seems to be a rather important issue then.
