Sorry for such a general question but, what's the best, fastest and most stable rom up to date? Something that runs on the Hero layout would be nice =). I am currently running MoDaCo's Hero rom(5.3) which is quite fast, but seems a bit outdated now. I've tried other roms like Eclair 2.2 and KingKlair's 1.0 rom(which was incredibly slow and had FCs D. If anyone could give me suggestions(don't say search bar, as that thing hates me) to what roms are good it'd be great . Sorry if I'm asking too much here, but some eyecandy would be good too =D.

Herver's EclairOG
Do you know if video on that rom lags ._.' as some Ecalir roms I've tried had laggy video whenever I tried to view something.
all eclair drivers will have problems playing video since there are no video drivers that have been released for the G1/MT3G...
That news is quite depressing :'(. Guess I'll just stick with Modaco's until a fix arrives.

in my opinion super D 1.6 or 1.6.6 < waiting for 1.7 should be out any time. are the BEST roms. fast, no problems so far. and runs market and all the good stuff...
idk if it's what your looking for since it's not much for eye candy, but it's an efficiant rom.
hope i helped
super D 1.6 is amazing. I loved it, and still have it on my switchrom for when I need a fast phone. Other than that I use MLIGN 3.2B hero. Maybe wait it out a few months until switching to espresso. Happy flashing
honestly, the best advice i can give you is to just try out different roms. each rom runs differently on every different device. xROM Eclair by JAC runs beautifully for me. absolutely amazing, but for someone else, it may be awful. it's all about how it does on your device, so just try out different ones and pick the one that suits you best.
I would recommend CSDIv1...its super fast and stable. But if you do like Sense UI, I use MLIGN Hero 3.1B...but as grandomegabosses recomended, I suggest you to try each rom and decide by yourself, because not everybody have the same setup, ie. Swap, Ext, Swapiness, Clock...and that may cause differencies of speed on one phone and another
Best ROM up to date
King's AOSP 2.1 [v1.2] hands down!
The fastest and most stable Eclair rom yet. It has tons of eye candy and lightning fast for an eclair rom.
Flash it now!

No, it's not a lockscreen at all. It's the Clock app for Eclair that comes with the rom.

I'm stuck between KiNgxKxlicK AOSP 2.1 v1.6.1 vs CM v4.2.14.1
What would you choose/using and why??
CM because it has all the drivers atm. I love eclair, but I want everything to work. Once those are out, Cyanogen will make an eclair also, so I will probably flash that over once it comes around.

If you want a 2.1 ROM= OpenEclair
If you want Donut=Dunkin Donuts
...If you want a 1.6 ROM=Super D
if i were to recommend a 2.1 rom, i would suggest Cloverdale's Blue_Haze OE v1.1. yes, it's not on xda, but do some research and you will be rewarded.
I like Super D 1.9.2 because of the speed but then it has the downfall of the 10mb hack during games like ShootU! Which I loved, had to refund it

I did research all i found was his theme. Besides how much better can his be compared to others? Honestly coming from a Kinglick AOSP 2.1 ROM i love it and its by far the best compared to other 2.1 roms i've tested. As far as speed and stability goes, Anyways.
And I've been seeing alot of Super D flying around, But how fast are his ROMS? Like 'Super tap an app and open fully' fast or 'Tap an app and wait 2-3 seconds for it to fully show'?
And by the way, @xabierd Any ROM is ACCEPTED! Just wanna know what people are using and WHY? I mean, because it has video working. It's lighting fast. It's stable. It has a certain feel you like, WHATEVER!

I have tried all the following, and so far Incubus26Jc's Super FroYo 2.2 works best for me...
(all the newer bells & whistles - yet still functional features like camera, Bluetooth, etc.)
Anyone have some recommendations on what they use, what's quick, yet functional for them?
(FroYo wasn't ready when Poll was made - that's why it's not on the list) ;-)

I tried all Eclair you mentioned.
It's definitely, KK's Vanilj Eclair.
It doesn't have bells or whistles but you can selectively add them.
DZO's odexed donut. works amazing, fastest build I've used yet
My take on the available odex'd Eclair builds after installing all of them:
Myn's Warm Eclair RLS1: It's functional and fast out of the box, but it seems like it slows down after a few days. Biggest annoyances are dialer/messaging being slow for me.
Incubus26Jc's Super Eclair 2.1: Fast out of the gate and stays fast. Few glitches/bugs due to the additional stuff added, but if you need a build with some goodies use this one.
VaniljEclair RLS6: Fast, stable, and functional. If you don't mind having a bare minimum Android install go with this one.
Fastest is Myn's eclair. But I voted for Myn's donut. Being fast doesn't mean being stable. As for me, sometimes being stable is more important than being fast. I hate that some android builds skip my phone calls, or freeze if someone calls me while I listening to pandora etc. There is a lot of bugs still. Right now everyone concentrated on speed... what's the purpose of speed, if device is buggy? I'd like to see more STABLE and well-tested builds rather than fastest.
Take my word for it, I have tried many. nothing compares to DZO's odexed donut.
Every phone might be a little different, but I have yet to hear anyone complain about performance on DZOs odexed donut.
It might not have all the flash and frills of the other builds, but it is the most reliable and by far the fastest. At least that has been my experience.
Myn's donut is what I use. I odexed it myself. Works great.
Didn't try DZO's Donut, but it is so obvious that Donut is faster than Eclair on Vogue!

I second this. After trying froyo for a week, I couldn't take the slowness. Dzo build is so much faster. I hope gmail sync is fixed in donut.
I haven't done much, since I only run from an SD Card I expect the slowness. But as far as STABILITY goes (my biggest concern - I don't want my phone locking up on me all the time) I think Myn's Warm Donut has treated me the best so far.
NuAngel
you are forgetting one- FROYO.
incubis and dzo are putting out the releases faster than i can flash em- and they are doing nothing but getting better and better- IMO froyo is the best thus far

I second Froyo... Some of the builds have been shaky, but the custard crew has really got it hummin on the lastest builds. I'm running the odexed July 3rd version and I'm lovin it!
+++ For Froyo.. By far the best, fastest, most stable.. And a very clean install to build on.. A+ all the way
I'm going back to windows unless I can figure out wifi and usb tether soon, I have used Incubus froyo, dzo froyo, myn warm donut.
Wifi won't start at all, I have had very limited success tethering with a market app (it's VERY slow).
I just thought I would say this because there is nobody able to help me and I just assumed tethering would work with android natively, but it does not.

Is the current Froyo faster than Dzo's donut? I found Super Froyo RLS7 to be much slower than Dzo's donut. Has the incoming call delay been fixed on Froyo?

Since nobody answered, I tested the Super Froyo RLS9 myself and compared it with Dzo's donut.
1. RLS9 is significantly faster than RLS7.
2. RLS9 is noticeably slower than Dzo's donut. (For example, it takes extra ring for the phone to actually ring. App opens slower.)
3. Froyo looks prettier than donut.
I would like to try dzo's donut release listed in:

Can someone please let me know which zImage and initrd.gz to use?

go back then, it really isnt just a natively built-in feature the usb driver needs to be troubleshot and rewritten, if its that big of an issue for you ask dzo or one of the other devs what you need to get started with fixing it.
but if you dont want to do that switch back to windows mobile, because our devs are working their butts off to bring froyo to us so dont make it sound like nobody is trying to fix things.
Tethering works just fine for me in Myn's donut and now DZO's donut that I am currently running. I am running PDAnet and have used both SD automount and SD dual mount. I have read that not using a dualmount/automount program can cause issues with tethering. Hope it helps.

incubus, as much as its great to have the latest OS (froyo) on our trusty old vogues, its starting to feel like running windows vista on my old celeron. Meaning maybe FROYO and all its capabilites are weighing us down. Maybe Froyo is just not fully optimized yet. How is the speed of this rom relative to the ROM you and DZO are putting out?

That's pretty much the impression I get when I run froyo, which is why it's so hard for me to give up donut. If I had a copy of eclair with improved performance, though, I would jump ship in a minute!

Hmmm... I'm surprised you're finding Froyo slow - for me it's as snappy as Donut if not even faster on the Vogue. Regardless it's nice to have this ROM from a native 320x240 device to try out.

Plemen, which NBH and build are you using? I've been using Myn's Odexed Warm Donut for a while, and before that I used DZO's Odexed Donut for a bit. Every week or so, I back up my Donut and test out the newest Froyo iteration, and the speed difference is pretty drastic. From my experience, it is about as fast as Eclair, but in no way as fast as Donut.
However, I would LOVE to be wrong. If I have just been using a buggy Froyo build and /or NBH, and the thing is actually really fast, I will so be there!
NICE!
I would love to have a faster sense available for my Vogue just for tampering.. But hands down Froyo is by far the fastest release for my phone. It even beats the NFSFAN Winmo rom that I use sometimes (just for pocketufo). Warm Donut was great but I havent found a single reason to stray from Froyo. While ive had some issues with rls 11 and 12.. rls 10 has been nothing short of amazing for me

There are minor issues here and there but dzo has been super quick dealing with things as they come up.

Absolutely NO! dzo's nbh files are only for vogue/kaiser/polaris/nike. This thread is about porting wildfire rom to our devices.
My wife has CM6 on her G1 and it works fine, though it feels sluggish and apps take a little bit to respond. I've tried several Froyo roms and CM6 seems to be the best of the bunch, but I want to find her something more responsive. Is CM7 even worth considering? Common sense suggests it would be even more sluggish since the sys reqs are higher, but I've read some people saying it's faster. And in any event, is it generally true that an Eclair-based rom (like CM 5.0.8?) is going to be faster than any Froyo rom?
Thanks guys!
Donut is the fastest, but Eclair is good for both stability and speed. The older builds are generally more optimized, faster, and have less functions (trade off).
As always ... it depends. For me CM6.1 was faster than any CM5 I had on my phone, probably even faster than the 1.6 stock donut. But there is also the difference that for the newer ROMs you can increase the size of the RAM available, which helps very much. So you have the choice ...
Sent from my Gingerbread on Sapphire using XDA App
For me FROYO is having good responce...with official AOSP 2.2 from ezterry.
but if you like eclair go for Superbad 1.7 from htcclay the best one for eclair.
Hmmm. I may be on a fool's errand but I'm trying to see if there's a Tom for the G1 that will make it feel like my Nexus One. Should I stop trying?
