Got tired of all the CM updates, each one breaking something different than the previous.
I'm sure at some point I'll do another modded ROM but I really do need something that is _reasonably_ stable.
Sure there'll be those who say "I've never had a problem"....good for you! I have followed many advice methods from many people. Hell, there have been some who have taken a bit of a written beating from my vents of frustration, and they still talk to me True dedication. On the flip side, if you ask a complete and intelligent question on Cyanogen's IRC channel, you'll get ignored, despite his wiki saying go there as one of the steps before reporting a problem (Hey Cyanogen, I'd like to report that the IRC channel is broken for anyone looking for help....:/ )
Been through the ringer with CMs and kinda sore over it. Will check other ROMs down the line because I've exhausted enough energy with this one.
Thanks for all your guys help. There are a few saints amung the 'uber coders'
We all owe Cyanogen a debt of gratitude for his work and how it has inspired others.
However, not all roms are created equal and of course a Full wipe before flashing any type of NEW rom onto your device is the key to success.
Super D is definitely where its at if you want the best of everything the HTC Dream/G1 has to offer, see my signature for the correct version.

Super D really was one of the fastest roms for me, but may I ask why you recommend 1.9.3 over 1.11?
OP, your sig says that you are running firmware 2.2. There is no stable 2.2 rom out there (CM6 is still in release candidate status...). If you want to use CM, stick with 5.0.8 it has less bugs.

To be honest I respect Cyanogen for all their hard work, But Ive always
found their roms to be slow as heck.
You should try Htcclays Donut superbad. Fastest and most stablest rom ever!
Yes better than SuperD.

In regards to the best battery life, stability and FC free user experience Super D v 1.9.3. is simply the best in xda or any other website.

I agree I've never liked cyanogen's ROMs. However, they are better than stock. He's also a damn good dev and most other ROMs have some bits from his work in there. Super E latest is what I'm on now. It's a piece of work, and the most stable Eclair I've found. However, if you want a pretty much guaranteed stable ROM, always go Donut. I like the features in Eclair, but nothing will compare to Donut on these devices in terms of speed and stability. That's just my opinion, though.

What are the main differences from these two ROMS?
I have tried both.
My view?
Dutty ROM is more stable and less battery consuming
Laurentius ROM is more sexy and tweaked, has also more software

No doubt this thread will be closed as opinionated. Its your choice. You choose which you prefer as everyone elses preferences will most likely not be yours.
After trying both my preference is Duttys

Having compared them last night, Dutty's is far faster and memory usage is far lower. Its down to your preference theough - try them both and see which one fits your purpose the best. Personally i prefer to have the option to install the software that i want, and therefore not a great lover of roms full of software.
I prefer Duttys Rom,
also had tested both
So Dutty is the winner here?
Can you also tell me WHY you prefer one or the other ROM with hard facts, like lower battery-cunsumption or faster working or any other criteria that did you choose for one or the other ROM.

Both roms have good battery lives and are both fast. My preference is down to me being biased towards Throy as a mate, one of his beta testers and that I have followed his roms for years.
I could go into detail, but again my best advice would be to try both yourself and make your own educated decision
Try Yourself

Mate,
If you really wanna know, try both the ROMs for few days (at least a week - each ROM). Then you will come across all the problems like battery, software issues, etc which is applicable to you on your hardware. The reason is same ROM might give different results on different hardware.
We have seen that it's happening on both the ROMs. For one guy it's working while the other suffers to make it work.
Saying that, it's really up to you mate , to decide which ROM to go for... I tried both & I have my own ++ & -- about them. and I think this thread is going to be closed soon.
Why asking?
Give them a try !!
I m personnaly using Miri v19, very nice rom too, one more you should try haha ^^
After trying both I've dropped back to the most recent stock rom and just added to it what I need. The new cal feature is nice but not a seller for myself, and the stock rom just seems to use battery and memory much better for me.
Having said that when there is a newer release for custom I will no doubt flash again lol

You should try Topix or Vanilla Topaz.
Both are very fast and are very battery efficient
Onkolog's ROM is the best! Who uses TF3D anyway... ...just close this thread...
Choice is to personal to start a thread.
I just ported my old nokia 3110 os to my blackstone, no more have to worrie about ram, or bad battery issues. So anyone want those two to be sorted out just flash that rom.
Here is my advise... Stick to the STOCK ROM. Probably thats the safest bet for you.
Don't be lazy dude... go through the change log for all the ROMs out there and choose one. I am sure most of the guyz here usually do not have a ROM on their deivse more than a week (at best). I know I dont.
This is an unanswerable question.
The only way of knowing is trying them for yourself and see which one you prefer.
Lots of work go into creating these ROM's and no-one should be bias against any, purely as so much time and effort is put in by the author for your use for FREE. Appreciation is the only way to go. Keep up the good work to all the Cook's on here! Thanks!
ROM's are specific to personal preference. I know which I prefer, but I'm not going to say which as yours could be different.
I want to find one I can stay on because schools starting and it's a bit annoying to keep flashing these hero roms and loose ure apps so what is a stable fast rom I can stay on thanks for for helping and hopefully the rom has no SMS and mms problems!

Short of being flamed..(there have been numerous people asking about "What's better.. blah blah blah" and getting burned something severe) try some of the hero's for yourself! I have installed JACxHero1.5r2 on 3 different phones and both have varying results. I suggest to everyone who is curious about hero or any other ROM to just flash and test for yourself!
MoDaCo Hero ROM
I just flashed to the MoDaCo 1.5 Hero Rom tonight and it is by far "THE FASTEST" Hero ROM I've ever had yet.I love it and plan to stay with this ROM forever until a possibly better ROM comes out.

mine's the fastest
It's not listed here because it's not finished, but it doesn't require (it doesn't even support) A2SD, compcache is automatic, you get 80~ MB free in data on first boot.
I just need a few final details to get it working, but when I do it'll be an option for people who do not want/use/need a2sd but want rosie, exchange, and a few widgets.
With the shameless self advertising done, I think akirah's is by far the best, fastest build on the device currently (that I've tried), given all other things equal. But Jac's newest build with cyanogen's kernel enhancements might be faster. I haven't tried it because my phone is busy finishing testing my build.

Are those all the best versions I can get? I'm hoping to get something a little more smooth, maybe better on battery.
You could try the 5.08 radio instead, not seen anything to indicate that FRG33 is any better than FRF91 could try if you like.
I would root the phone and put CyanogenMod 6.0 on it and it will open up a whole new world to you. Word of caution: read, read, read and educate yourself before flashing ROM's, kernel or anything else. Also, unless you are very comfortable using adb...don't mess with your radio as screwing up is the only way to brick your phone. Good luck!

My phone is rooted, I'm not sure about installing cyanogen or about how to change kernels though, and someone told me Cyanogen had really bad battery life, which is something I really want to be good.
I went through two batteries yesterday. I wasn't running it hard or anything. I do have all the bells and whistles going though.
I'm sure there is a battery thread for CM6, I'll look and see what I can find.
Regardless of the battery life it would be hard to switch back.

If you have Amon_Ra's or Clockwork Recovery installed, just download CM6 and either Wildmonks or Pershoots oc'd/uv kernel and flash them thru recovery. First, back up your apps, wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache & dalvik-cache, wipe battery stats, then flash CM6 then kernel then 08172010 Gapps and reboot!
There are lots of threads dedicated to walking you thru each step.
You could also flash ROMs other than CM6. Enomther's feedback suggests MUCH better battery life and smoother ROM.

i second that. Enom's rom is a must!
I've heard a lot about both of their Tom's but I don't actually know how they compare to eachother in terms of features and performance.
Sent from my Nexus One using Tapatalk
Nobody can tell you that objectively since there are no objective head-to-head comparisons using specific set-ups, but only those that users do for themselves . From user comparisons you can gain some of the info you're looking for. You should probably try them and decide for yourself.
To be fair I don't know a feature list of either Cyanogen or Enom. I went on the Cyan site and clicked features but it just shows a video.
I just want something with good battery life!
Honestly, the best battery life is found using a stock rom. FRF91 or FRG33. You won't be able to use any of the great features that you'll find in Enom or Cyan's roms.
Personally, I don't see any adverse affects on battery life with either. You just have to test them out for a day or two under normal conditions. It's not the instant answer you were looking for, but that's how we all know what rom's we prefer.
Isn't there just a plain old feature list to look at?
UV
If you like your current setup and just want better battery life you can flash a custom Under Volted kernel.
Many Rom threads have a list of features in the first or second post
I have always found Enom to be more stable and better battery. The current "stable" CM6 is no where near as stable as Enom's 2.11.x and the battery life of Enom is better, however, the most recent CM6 has some more features that Enom does not yet have, one of them being WPA2 Enterprise support.
I am a new member but have already used this site a lot.
I am interested in rom development for the touch and would be grateful if I could recieve some guidance.
If you have any tips or suggestions I would be grateful.
Thank you

haha are you talking about me?
if you going to be working with fresh froyo
my tool set is alot of reading and patience, along with 7zip and recently apkmanager (none of my .apk manager stuff was using on vogue)
even my hero stuff has used a very similar tool set
well, this development on vogue seems to freeze for about weeks.
and seems like you are taking your eyes too into another device you have.
hope you are taking your part again into rom development.
compare to another froyo build in another device, Fresh Froyo have a very small size.
so if anyone could porting from another device then stripped them into a very small size ( get rid all unuseable stuff ), it would be nice.
And i think would be so refreshing to have some sense in our froyo.

you know for a noob you sure have helped alot if it wasnt for you we wouldnt have facebook and twitter sync working
If you want to compile, I'd start at the top of the Fresh Froyo thread.
Follow the instructions left by dzo: they still work.
First you can get an android build, then keep reading the same thread to figure out how to build the kernel.
I started that way. First I was building my own builds of Fresh Froyo, because dzo used to commit changes almost daily. Then, I found something that didn't work well enough, and I started researching on how it worked, and how to fix it. I have made a lot of mistakes along the way, but happily most of them have been in the privacy of my own build.
If your tastes go more toward kernel development, give read the kernel thread on the Vogue forum, then l1q1d's threads on the Kaiser forum.
Oh, in case you didn't figure it out yet, the Kaiser, Vogue, and Polaris all use the same builds and kernels, with configuration and driver differences.
Ok..
Thanks a lot
I have thought about porting and probably what I'll do besides using fresh froyo
So to help me with that
What devices are similar to the Vogue/Polaris/Kaiser that may be candidates for some rom porting or should I just try any rom(with the same resolution)
if i'm not mistaken,
myn's eclair based on dream, incubus have super hero, and i think sapphire and tatto could be possible to port too.
2 days ago, i try to load wildfire rom with sense, vogue can load it but still keep rebooting. its very unstable. (i know a lot of ppl say it is impossible) but when i saw my vogue can load it...this vogue is incredible.
if you want to give it a shot, just don't forget to change the BOOTCLASSPATH.
I'm still learning so could you remind me what BootCLASSPATH is?
for "what is" bootclasspath, you can search for it, i can't explain it better than the devs here.
in other device, the bootclasspath is inside the boot.img, so if they want to edit it, they need to unpack the boot.img.
in our vogue, bootclasspath describe in sysinit.rc,
because that i want to load sense framework, so in bootclasspath, i should edit it to export the appropriate .jar.
see below :
export BOOTCLASSPATH /system/framework/core.jar:/system/framework/ext.jar:/system/framework/framework.jar:/system/framework/android.policy.jar:/system/framework/services.jar:/system/framework/com.htc.framework.jar:/system/framework/com.htc.android.pimlib.jar:/system/framework/com.htc.android.easopen.jar:/system/framework/com.scalado.util.ScaladoUtil.jar
