Is my G1 rooted?

I actually posted this same thread in the dream forum, but i guess it should really belong here.
I bought a used g1 from ebay a week or 2 ago, but something about it was different. I'm wondering if it is rooted or not, but i can't seem to find an answer to test if it is.
when i go to 'about phone' is says:
model number
HTC_DREAM
firmware version
1.1
Baseband version
62.33.20.08H_1.22.14.11
Kernel version
2.6.25-01845-g85d4f0d
[email protected] #27
build number
1.51.0.1 PLAT-1.0 126986 test-keys
I downloaded the telnet application and when i enter su i get the #.
Another question is I have a prepaid service and was wondering if I rooted and put a new rom on would I have to activate the phone with someone elses sim card? I didn't have to activate my g1 when i got it, it seemed like i had bypassed it somehow or the owner before me bypassed it or had already activated it.
LMAO 1.1...ouch
Without an active sim, you wouldn't receive ota updates...u don't even have cupcake, sheesh
camera+power...see if ya have a rainbow screen...
use this to root your phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=442480
How do I know what version I have since there is no RC# under 'build number'
also if i do this would i have to register the phone with a google account? I did not have to do this when i first got the phone and was able to sign into google afterwards. I'm only asking this because i only have prepaid right now, and want to know if i will have to borrow someones sim card that has data.

[Q] [Help] Upgrading to I9000XXJPC via KIES/ODIN ORANGE branded set locked.

Hi all.
My wife has an Orange branded Samsung Galaxy-S and she was complaining about the lag she was having. After applying the One Click Lag Fix she wasn't too satisfied so I decided to look into updating it to one of the Beta Froyo ROM's and found the following guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=769400 (I now know this isn't the latest version of 2.2 for the Galaxy-S and that the guide is old!)
I first attempted to do so via KIES which left me in a Force close loop of Touchwiz and other apps so I then flashed via ODIN which was successful except my wife's Galaxy wasn't accepting her Orange sim as the simlock had changed.
I then looked into my efs folder to find that my nv_data.bin and the backup were recent (I assume this is because of the two flashes, KIES and ODIN) and my original data.bin is lost.
The only thing holding me back now is the unlock code (it was unlocked before) and for some reason I can't generate an unlock code as it is now.
When I replace the older nv_data with the newer one the phone reboots but with a generic IMEI but no simlock. When I use the older one, the phone has the correct IMEI but the sim lock is present.
Is there any way around this at all? Would a paid IMEI unlock code be possible to get around the sim lock? I'm not sure if such a thing even exists.
Any and all help appreciated.

Apologies if this is too similar to this thread. That does sound like the same issue as I am having.
More info: According to SGS Toolbox, my current nv_data.bin has a product code I9000HKDORA which I believe is the correct one for an Orange branded handset. Does this mean this could be my original nv_data.bin?

I did try that first of all and that's when I lost my IMEI number.
I've now turned on my wifes Galaxy with my Orange sim in it and it seems to be recieving texts. MY sim works fine in my old SonyEricsson phone (calls and SMS) but the Galaxy won't do anything as it keeps asking for an unlock code.
Thanks for the reply!

please help IMEI show as 004999010640000 since new rom

sadly I dont have backup of the files before flashing
I can access data, but I cannot make\ receive phone calls or messages.
please help as this is my only phone?
not sure if I can revert to an older rom, and which one to pick up.
I got mine on orange UK.
Are you saying that you don't know your IMEI?
1. check your invoice when you ordered the device (mine stated my IMEI).
2. login to orange uk website to manage your account and surf around, my IMEI was also listed in there
Or that you don't know how to change it?
1. What ROM are you running?
2. There is a secret code you can type into your dialer which will simultaneously do a factory reset and change your IMEI. Search the forums for this.
I remember reading somewhere on here that if you flash back to FroYo it will reinstate your IMEI number.
Perhaps use JPU 2.2.1
Hope it helps ;-)
flash with odin and done

I kept searching really desperatly to find if I kept a backup of
nv_data.bin
and indeed I did! so now I got it restored
however since upgrading to ICS, I cannot use my o2 sim card is there anyway to unlock the phone on ICS?

[Q] unlock problem after bml5.img extraction

Hi there,
hope someone can help.
I have 3 Samsung Ace S5830 phones and unlocked the first 2 (with Austrian A1 lock) with no problem using the bml5.img extraction method. ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1335548 ) Now the 3th one (with an O2 German simlock) it will not unlock. I found with the hex editor an 8 digit number which appears to be normal.(not 00000000) The phone has an original firmware which boots normal and always asks for the network code. When I enter the found code it gives me an error that his is not the right code.
I looked the internet over and over for hours and cannot find a solution. I tried to extract the bml5.img multiple times, but it gives me always the same 8 digit code. Also tried to complete go back to original with stock firmware with Odin, also no luck.
Is there another trick?
Please, hop someone has a good idead, as I'm desperate.
Regards
UPDATE:
Never mind, found myself another solutions. For those facing the same problem:
I followed this guide on tube, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X9Xpuo6EJ5U and did exactly what was told, and voila, the app found 2 codes!
1 also found in the bml5.img and one complete different. The last one worked for me.
PROBLEM SOLVED!
anyone???
Please, anyone???

Help note 9

Ok guys need someone to guide me here. A friend of mine has a Note 9 from Verizon. The imei shows as 15 zeroes!. He was messing with the phone and factory binary to flash from verizon U to U1 to TMB rom, wish he accomplished but now the imei its all zeros, searching online found hardware boxes and things like that that will help you repair the imei but octupus box witch its the one we were looking at dosnt support imei repair of note 9
Then we found the software used by imeigurus that actually have a section for verizon phones that states : cert write IGST method
I think that by having a certification file for note 9 we can write the file using this program and get a new imei , buuuuuut , I found something about cert files not supporting CPID phones witch its the case of the Note 9, so at this point have no idea how to get new imei , any help will be appreciated , phone's out of waranty !

Your "friend" should be able to get the IMEI from their Verizon account information, or, perhaps, on the box that it came with.
Please don't go to the laundry list of excuses that your "friend" has as to why they cannot get the IMEI.
If Verizon cannot help, contact Samsung.
Also, there may be other ways to retrieve the IMEI, use the search function here @ XDA. If there's a legitimate way to retrieve the original IMEI, it'll be here somewhere @ XDA.
Changing the IMEI is frowned upon here & at every other reputable site.

From what I understand, flashing the old "U" firmware might restore the IMEI number.
This phone is about 3 - 4 months old, since most warranties last at least a year this is a bit short to say it's out of warranty.

check the back of the phone...
This kind of discussion about changing imei is not allowed on XDA Forums. If you have a backup file you can use search button on XDA to restore it, if dont, you have to contact your mobile company.
