I was carrying my xperia in my pocket and all sudden I noticed it was calling, surfing through menus, changing settings... At first I was WTF?? Then I reinstalled rom and it did not fix the problem. I turned on "hardware key sounds" and found out it is constantly pressing one of the keys. I'm 99% confident it is the "Enter key" which is somehow stuck??? It is not physically, I have tactile feedback from the key but is keeping to be pressed in irregular pattern :|
Is this probable dust problem or something else? How can it be fixed?
Oh and another thing. When I press and hold the Enter key I can do everything ok, no unwanted presses whatsoever lol...
X1's hardware Keyboard is troubled.
You may googling how to clean it or if your X1's underwarranty, you may send it to SESC.
But some suggest not to use X1 keyboard. Somewhat, the slider was designed flawly. So In X2, SE tried to fix this annoying problem. or you may try sure press to prevent more keypad being involved.

I have experienced several times when carrying the diamond in my trouser pockets that it starts calling the latest caller 'automatically'. It is due to the fact that the diamond switches on after 'accidently' pressing the dial button. It then gets into dialing mode and pressing it again will start the re-dial.
Is there a way to prevent the diamond from switching on by pressing the dial or home key? I would like to be able only switching it on via the real power button. I don't like the standard locking method of the phone itself.
Any idea? maybe I didn't search well enough in the forums but it seems to be a hard thing to find.
S2U2 is one solution.

Mine doesn't do this. If the screen is off then only the power button will bring it back on. Unless I've misunderstood your problem?
Check in Start > Settings > Key lock if 'Lock all buttons except power button' is ticked. Is yours?

Indeed, I completely overlooked that setting! Quite stupid though.
Thanks a lot! Just what I needed!
Easily done, particularly with settings strewn all over the place!
So all of a sudden (well likely not all of a sudden... I must have done something) the red phone "hang up" button doesn't do it's job anymore. It doesn't hang up when in a call, like it used to.
I think (stressing think, cuz I'm not quite sure) that this started when I uninstalled Resco Contact Manager but am not sure...
Anyway, wondering what I need to do to re-enable the functionality of that button.
have you eliminated the possibility of the button failing at a hardware level?
i mean to say, does the red key work to minimize all programs? does long pressing the red key work for whatever long press configuration you've set up?
if the ONLY behavior of the red key that is affected is hanging up a call, then don't fret...it most certainly is a software issue and it is likely someone will be able to help. but it would help the others to know whether or not this could be a hardware issue
for all software issues, the bottom line is that hard resetting solves the problem as a last resort
Did a soft-reset (for another reason) and now the key is working again. Minimizes programs, and ends calls.
Weird.
Let's bump this topic...
I Have the same issue... and only with a soft reset solves this. But after some time of use the issue comes back again and then I need to do another soft reset to solve the problem. I've been searching and experience with the phone and it seams to do this after using the sms feature...
Very odd...
Hi all, please can you help me with this!?
Firstly when my phone boots or is taken out of sleep mode it immediately activates voice record as if this button has been pressed. It then opens the dialler and types ‘EDFC’. If I open pocket word and then wake the phone up it also types ‘EDFC’ before doing the above.
My keyboard is not working and the only hardware buttons that function are the power button (only for a while), the camera button and the silver select button in the middle of the d-pad. The jog wheel and silver directional d-pad buttons occasionally come to life. The others don’t work (green call and red end buttons, ok, windows etc).
When I use the standard keyboard SIP on the screen the directional buttons and delete do not function?!
I’ve reverted to a stock ROM to make sure this isn’t the problem.
It appears as though my Kaiser thinks these buttons are being depressed, but I’ve checked them and they click normally and release when pressed (even though they don’t perform a function) so nothing is stuck down etc….
I’m going to use AE Buttons to try and unhinge the button functions for now, but it would be great if someone has any suggestions!!
Thanks in advance.
Update - AE Button won't unhinge the buttons or change their function to anything else (e.g. nothing). I can't stop this from happening every time the phone boots/wakes up!
Help!
Mine got the same symptoms last week except it opens quick something or other, and then the dialler dials 2547.The screen for my pin then comes up,which I can enter normally.Home screen fires up normally but the keyboard will not work or any buttons except the silver one in the middle.Searched a bit and this problem is very common although I cannot find a solution anywhere. Can someone please help
AE button didn't work?
When mine did that, I reset all the hardware buttons (not the keyboard, just the buttons reachable from the outside. A soft reset and viola!
That's the only solution I have. It's worked for me 2x.
Also try pulling the battery for 20 seconds or so and restarting. That has fixed my touchscreen not working after it gets spashed 3x. Yeah, my phone is old and abused, but keeps working.

Thanks for your replies - I've got Orange sending me another one in the morning now and sods law it's just stopped happening.... Taking the replacement anyway in case it happens again.
For my knowledge, how did you reset the buttons? I deleted some registry keys to completely stop them working (although I couldn't find the registry keys for the red and green buttons).
Searching on Google there are quite a few reports of this, but no one has ever posted the cause!
I am having the same problem... please help. My phone is going crazy. I did a hard reset but still didnt solve the problem....
I am also having this issue. Phone starts typing EDFC and then initiates the voice recorder. I reflashed various ROMs and regardless of what was flashed.. initially they appeared okay, then it started happening again. I also tried hard and soft resets. Nothng has worked so far.
I resorted to disabling the keys and some of the applications which I dont use which appear to be getting started/run (Voice recorder for one). So far I havent had the issue, knock on wood.
I think this is more than likely a hardware error. My tilt is actually pretty old so I wouldnt be surprised. If someone finds either the cause or a workable solution please post. Im trying to hold off until January when my contact expires to get a new HTC.
I searched and searched but found no solution for this and ended up getting the phone replaced.
HTC seemed to know nothing of such a problem....
Have you tried whacking it?!!?
Hope you get it sorted.

Hmm, yes, but I don't see how that helped my phone.
lol, all jokes aside, my friends, I ask in this thread as well,
what is causing this problem? I ran into this issue after ALL my buttons stopped working (except for the power).
I installed a new rom (I forget which one), and still nothing works except for power button.
It would be even better if someone knows the solution!
-Calling for Help-I'm still convinced it is a software/registry problem...
Okay, so there's no solution available for this weird problem of ours.
On the bright side, however, it is amazing that we can still use the phone, even after it requires servicing (some way or another). I have accepted this handicap that has been placed on my phone for now, simply hoping it will grow out of it one day.
But something isn't right. When I looked in the registry (trying to follow some directions I found within the wiki for when your keyboard STILL doesn't work properly), there was a discrepancy between what was supposed to be found in the registry and what was actually there. It wasn't that the values were wrong, it was the names of the values that were different. Why could this be?
Or even if you have moment of time, and you have an AT&T Tilt, and it works perfectly, maybe you could write up a run down of what you have hanging around in that section of the registry?
Hey, just so I can be sure, is there some place I can cross check what I have in my HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP with what is supposed to be there in a fully functioning AT&T Tilt?
Hi guys,
My X1 has developed a really annoying fault. It seems the enter key (the optical joystick button) is getting randomly pressed, which totally messes up my texting (it creates a new line) and my calls (it puts the phone in and out of hold).
This is not fixed by using the "disable optical joystick" option, which just stops the joystick functionality, and not the actual press Enter functionality.
Is there some way i can fiddle with the registry etc, perhaps with Total commander, and stop this key doing anything at all? it really is life or death for the phone.
Thanks for any help you can give.
John
If it actually is a hardware problem that produces that input you could use an application like AEButton Plus to make that key only press enter when you press it three times in a row, or long, and to do nothing otherwise. That way you could actually still use the key.
Well I currently have a rooted g1 phone, but it is completely useless. Every time I use the keyboard or any keys on the phone(Menu,Home, Power, action, call) button. the buttons were programmed to like press other stuff, for example I press the menu button and it turns off my phone, if I press "I" on my keyboard it erases everything. And If I press the end button it automatically types" u345". What exactly is this? Is this a physical issue? or Is the g1 itself that is messed up? I can barely use the phone! All the buttons type different stuff?!! please help! Hardware problem? or Physical? And idea's of fixing, thanks for reading.
I have a similar problem but not as severe. Almost all buttons work ok, just the buttons in the middle of the hw keyboard like y, h, b and space sometimes print other stuff, b sometimes writes a few characters and opens up the search, n sometimes writes some characters with an 'enter' in between etc. and these random outputs are usually the same, ie I get the same stuff by pressing b over n over again. They work fine after some pressing, and I've noticed if I press these keys immediately after pressing something else, they work fine. The problems has persisted through rooting, flashing, radio change, bootloader change etc. Anyone know what this problem is? Is it a hardware issue should I get it checked? The hardware guys here charge so much I have to be sure before I take this to them. Any way I can correct it myself? Any help would be appreciated.
Your best bet to completely wipe and reflash a stable rom (like Super-D). If problem persists - you have a hardware problem. Sounds like water damage to me to be honest.
