You failed, what did you do?
hay i also got such a problom when i can't find the solution for always connected with active sync guide.
so just read it and follow the steps and flashe any good ROM and then hard reset it by below steps
1. Hold Camera and Record button and press reset. Hold it a while, until you'll see three options at the top. Choose:
* Enable KITL: No
* Clean Registry Hive: Yes
* Format Storage: Yes
& leave it you got your working screen again if device is not broken

Well, in my opinion: Do not delete this thread.
It's a good beginning to discuss common problems on upgrading, or installing apps after that! What do you think of that? Telling others about problems and their solutions or workaround.

when you'r at the last step, you'll get a notice about free/used sectors..the rom MUST HAVE 0001 Bytes to work, if its not then ROM is overloaded..also the ROM stucking at bootscreen can be a wrong XIP port or initflashfiles.dat error

Well today i come a cross a c skekhar folder with a rom in it and a ExtROM folder:
then i read this in a .txt in that folder and it says:
Code:
1. You must be seeing a folder \ExtROM here which has few cabs and tsk files. Place this folder on \Storage Card of your device.
2. You can add the files which you wish to autoinstall after hard reset to this folder. But, dont forget to modify the \Storage Card\ExtROM\Config.txt accordingly.
3. Mark all cab files as read only.
You now have the Extended ROM back on your device but on the storage card this time.... Enjoy.
C_shekhar
So iam going to do a bit of messing about and try and get this to work and stuff.
Just thought i would let you know!!

It does not make any sense, because I didn't manage to unlock extrom in 6.5 to perform normal reading (i will try tomorrow). I also cook 6.1 too.
Related
When i delete the files inside my extrom, they keep returning after a soft reset.
I tried to delete them with total commander - > no success
when i unhide/unlock the extrom and delete them, again after a softreset they are back.
I also removed the "read only" attribute, but that doesn't do the job as well.. Also files wich i add are gone after a reset.
Anyone got a clue what to do ?
Hmmm...
I've been flashing whole day, trying different roms and
i found out that the 1.3.2.3 rom allows me to delete everything in the extended rom, but on the 1.6.2.2 (and 1.6.2.4) rom the files keep coming back.. very annoying situation :S
The same with me,
i have the 1.6.3.1 Vodafone Rom and i cannot delete any files in extended rom nor copy any file. Even all the unlockers ar of no help. It seems that this version is locked differently.
Haven't tried to flash a different rom yet.
Hmmm...
It must be a regsetting then i hope..?
If i've got time enough today i'll flash the 1.3 rom again and make a
registry backup.. after that i'll flash it again with the 1.6 and do the same
and then compare the registry's.
Maybe that will do the job
For me now is the time to quit looking for a way to write files in the extrom, i hope some genius ppcguru will find the way of the dragon
Eventhough there is a minor difference in the registry of both roms, changing the value's or deleting certain storagemanager keys doesn't do the job.
Just a matter of time i hope....
Edit
I compared the registry's of the 1.3 and 1.6 rom, and there are some differences,
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\TrueFFS1]
"Key"="Drivers\\BuiltIn\\TrueFFS1"
"Flags"=dword:00000004
"SoftwareWriteProtect"=dword:00000001
"AutoDPDMode"=dword:00000001
also strange, that if you "delete" files, the memory comes free for that session, and you can make use of the memory, but after the soft reset it still wipes all added content.
Maybe there's a file with all cabs inside that it restores on reboot ?

I have compared the boot.rgu of ROM 1.5.x device and 1.6.x device. I think the key to the problem should be the \windows\boot.hv file, which come from \windows\boot.rgu. IF we could change remove the "writeprotect" key in that file the protection should be gone.

We need to get a working AKU 3.0 or 3.2 for our wizards.
I have been trying to figure out how to create a ROM kitchen for the Wizard.

One of the major things that would help would be to figure out the [DEV] folder of Bepe's ROM Kitchen. With that available for the Wizard then this system should work just fine.

Interrupt customization
You can always prevent the customization of the ROM, and then install whatever you want, including extended ROM files. I did this with T-Mobile's 2.6 ROM, creating a folder on my miniSD that contains all the CABs I want to install, including some from the 2.6, Total Commander, etc.
Then, when I do a hard reset, I prevent the customization, and run through the installation of these files manually. It is a small convenience to automate the process, but much easier to experiment and start over, which is likely to be necessary to figure out what is useful, needed, works or doesn't work.
The T-Mobile customization is discussed here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=57726
I will be interested to hear how the 3.2 works!
Personally what I want to be able to do is to load certain programs into the base ROM package. Like Pocket Informant and PhoneAlarm and AlarmToday. That way they leave me with more available storage memory space.

Soft reset
After the hard reset, you will go through the screen alignment, move Dr. Johnson's appointment, and then the Today screen comes up. Perform a soft reset with the stylus (poke the hole in the side) when the 'The Customizations will begin in 3 seconds" pops up. As long as you do it before the 3 seconds are over, the customization is prevented.

Hi,
I was really hoping to do this without having to ask for guidance!!
I have backed up my ROM via Kovskykitchen: all OK and nice clear tutorial! thx..
I have X1_HardSPL_V1 ready to run..
I have the Touch-IT Experience ROM..
I think I follow the process but have a question about HARDSPL : Once I have completed the process - will I be able to use the phone at that point - or will I have to flash a new ROM to use it? i.e. is HARDSPL just an unlock so to speak or does it wipe the phone?- been reading this very helpful thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=446070 by Phenx - ta..
Flashing the new rom:
all the detailed tutorials seem to be the MicroSD method.. I can't find a decent X1 walkthrough using activesync...
Can anyone point me in the right direction? I'm obviously searching wrong..
Thanks!!
(One other question: will flashing affect my sim contacts? Thanks)
I'll try and answer ur questions to the best of my ability but i can't say i know much about what hardspl is besides the ultimate tool
After you hardspl u will be able to use ur phone as normal. I believe it still has the same stock rom on it but again i'm not sure but i do know u will be able to use it.
There is a way to use activesync and its fairly simple. Establish a connection through activesync and then run the rom update utility and follow the instructions. This is the only method i've ever used and i've been flashing my phone since the wizard.
Hope this helps
Thanks, thats given me a little more confidence
What flash util would you recommend? or do you mean the one with the HARDSPL download?
I would suggest backing up your contacts to your sim card, pull your memory card and then flash AFTER you hrdspl the phone. The hrdspl enabled you to be able to flash the phone to another rom, it will not interfere with the operation of the phone afterwards.

Most ROM's are packed together with the flash prog. I do recommend the microSD method, as it's less prone to murphy's law.
always use the sd way, it far by the safest.
your sim contact will be left on the sim the other contacts yo want to backup.
hardspl is a unlock only utility, wont affect your phone, rom.
ive done it throught the sd way ...and its really simple and no problems, i had a few problems with hardspl ...but got that sorted quick enough.
yeah so i'd recommend the sd way.
Well don't have a microSD so did it via activesync...
HARDSPL - was painless - click - click, go make coffee - done!
I mistook the ROM update in the Touch zip for another HARDSPL.. It was infact (obviously) the update util needed.. Flashed to Touch-it .21 - As easy as HARDSPL....
I have noticed 1 bug but its a tiny thing: the ok or x in the top right doesnt show when in any menu... Hard reset didnt fix it.. no problem though as the OK or x is there just not lit up..
Can anyone confirm that to change to another ROM, I would just replace the RUU file in the update util folder?
Thanks for everyones help!

yes to the second, just replace the RUU.

so from my point of view ... usw the USB version. saves loads of time.

It's difficult to tell what the issue is here. The best thing to do is read the threads from where you got the ROM from, someone may well have had the same issue and know how to resolve it. If not, post in that thread and ask the ROM cooker for help. If you've got an issue with it, perhaps other people are suffering the same fate!

I went there and posted a thread but got no answer i am afraid. And nobody seems to mention that problem. If no one answers, then what are my next steps? Can i use a bluetooth to make the connection? Is it the same with the activesync? I believe it is the roms fault... So i might install my previous one, which was ok..

If I rename the .nbh radio file to DIAMIMG.NBH I will flash a new radio exactly as I did with the ROM?

Yes! thats it exactly
I just performed this task 29 and rom upgrade for a friend and it worked well. I tried it on my phone but its the wrong model id obviously.
I was hoping somebody could make it so that it works on our phones as its a lot easier than performing the MTTY steps
It was in the rom section in the TP2 forum, so i put it in this section. Mods remove it if necessary but i felt this would be the right place for devs to modify it.

try the RUU from attachment and let me know if it worked.
I tried it, and it works.
Not done this before, could you give a brief "How to" please?

Download the attachment, place your ROM's .nbh with it and that's it. Use it as normal.

REMEMBER It's going to erase everything on your phone after that you could flash any ROM as usual, this Task 29 package will replace your boot screen

I thought it might be, but searching didnt bring it up for me at least. So we should make it a sticky as it is in the TP2 forum.

no need to make a sticky, we can add it to Rollup section. i was hoping that as OP you take the responsibility of updating first post with proper info, instructions, credits blah blah, so that it is as useful a thread as in TP2 section.
