HTC USB Charger caught fire? - HD2 Accessories

Yesterday I wanted to load my HD2 so I plugged the charger into the socket and connected the HD2 to the charger. Just like always the HD2 began to load.
About one hour later there was a very burned smell in my room. I unplugged the charger. And this is the result:
Is there only me having this problem ?

I think this is a very serious problem that needs to be addressed to HTC if not done yet by someone, a friend´s apartment got caught on fire because a htc charger, same problem I assume , I guess we need to keep the charger on sight when in use to avoid a disgrace.

I hope my old charger from my touch diamond will not have the same problem sometime

Same problem with the charger of my Xperia X1 (also HTC), smoke came out the charger.

Ouch. I keep mine on a hardwood floor, but this time of year it's always a good idea to keep a eye on power packs and chargers. I've always thought my charger ran remarkably cool, I run a cradle off of my charger and frequently charge the phone and battery at the same time, I think I'll give it a heat-check next time I have them both on charge.

That sucks... Since HD2 has standard mini USB connector. I use either the charger from "late" Xperia X1 or my Samsung Omnia HD. No problem there

Yep my charger is hot
I did not notice before this thread, but yesterday I charged my HD2, and I touch the charger, and it was peaty hot. I do not like this...

I don't understand why they changed the charger cause my old charger from the touch diamond is not even a little bit hot. Maybe it's cheaper for HTC

Car charger damaged charge and data xfer functions

Hi guys: Somethings wanted to share with you guys. never never put your phone to the car charger before you start the car. It happened to my HTC HD2 T9193 now it can not be charged or data xfer. the orange led not light up also there is no ac icon instead of battery icon on the display. now I have to use swapping battery instead of charge it. if you see this post your are a lucky guy to know this experience . by the way, anybody knows how much will cost to repair and where?
To play devil's advocate. How do you know what exactly caused your damage to your HD2? Did it happen the first time you connected it up that way?
that's the same problem some people had with the HTC tytn 2 when using cheap chargers from ebay...
Apperantly theres something missing to stop the car from pulling power from your HD2 while it's connected to the charger.

...but: was it an original one, from HTC itself?
Yeah unless I have been lucky for so many years (knock on wood), it has to be a cheap or faulty charger because I hve llway had my phone changing when I am in the car. I have always used carrier sold charger's or a USB adapter and USB Cable. I do however remember reading about this a few devices ago.

Charger Whistles?...

I just bought this phone from wind (called optimus 2x but is LG-p999) and when i plug in the my phone to the wall charger, it does this wierd whistling noise that is kinda annoying. When i charged it with the computer there isnt that noise so i know its the wall charger. Does this happen to anyone else and is there anyway to fix it?

The one thing i didnt want to hear I guess i should return it.
Edit: Also, is charging faster with the wall charger or is it the same thing with PC?
Wall charger is faster, 1000mah as opposed to 500mah.
Definitely faulty though. Any old USB charger will do to tide you over.

I don't have any usb chargers, just the phone's. Also do you guys think it could damage the phone in anyway?
I wouldn't have thought so, noisy transformers aren't exactly uncommon, but they are annoying.
i wouldnt worry mine does this with no ill issues. A few of my chargers over the years have also done it. Some people are just more suseptable to noise than others lol.
My charger is whistling as well. But I wouldn't be too worried about it...
mine whistles when its almost full. like 90%
It's a Characteristic of Switched Mode power supplies
All of my later Nokia chargers did it, And My HTC
It can be annoying but nothing to worry about
Mine makes a weird clicking noise.. When it's been charging for a while (the charger, not the phone), it even continues after I pull it out of the wall socket!
the lg charger is ****, get an iphone charger from ebay or dealextreme, at least thats what i did
mine whilsted, but when i hit it few times, now it doesent, it also seems it charging better now...i'm not kidding...
Keep an eye on it though. Usually the difference between a piece of equipment that is exhibiting high performance and one that is about to explode, is slight.

Can Milestone charger be used for OB?

I'm about to use a Moto Milestone 1 charger for OB but I'm afraid that it may harm the phone. Both phones are listed with MicroUSB 2. Any tips?
thanks
Don't worry.. it will work Ok, but OB charger has 1000ma, if you use another charger that has let's say 500ma (like USB) it will take 3 hours to charge the phone instead of the regular 45 minutes!
I use a samsung cable directly from USB, the car USB port, a samsung 5530 charger, a LG optimus one charger, and they all worked, with various degrees of effectiveness!
The most useful one is the car's USB port that, even if it cannot keep up with the GPS (it charges slower than the battery drains), it can keep the phone running with 10% loss every hour with screen activated and GPS at the same time! The problem is that I hate radio and don't use CD's that much, and usually end up with the phone depleted before I reach the destination!
Thanks man! Ok I'll check that "ma" thing. BTW is it written on the battery or charger?

Both places; battery specify working and standby V and mA, charger specify the V and mA provider
So you can use almost every different charger if the specs are the same, but be aware of this: don't use a charger with less mA since it can burn the charger
Ma - miliamps.
How many milliamps in 1 watt/volt? The answer is 1000.
I assume you are converting between milliampere and watt/volt.
I never had a burnt charger by the way, that would be very strange considering that the phone is accepting 500ma from the start (that is the USB output on any PC), and I even saw chargers with a power of 2W (SUPER FAST CHARGERS). The Motorola chargers are 850 ma usually, so it should work quite good!
Indeed, it's very strange to have a burnt charger and we don't need to go into an electrical discussion but that happens because of 2 possible things, very high-peak of voltage or prolonged use of under-voltage

Thanks. Printed on my Moto charger is 850mA so I'll rather use it for my OB next time.
BTW, currently I'm using a replacement charger for my OB with a name "super charger" printed "4.5v - 9.5v 800ma"
It's charging at normal duration in fact I'm using it for days. The only problem is that my OB touchscreen freaks out if I use it while that charger is connected. It's obvious when I run the multitouch testing app because touch points run all over the place. Touchscreen goes back to normal if I disconnect the charger. I tested that "super charger" to my milestone and the same abnormal thing happens to the screen. What causes it?
Probably it's something to do with high voltage... I'd avoid using it if something like that happens to my phone..
Usually the USB style chargers are pretty standard... the speed with which they work are strongly related to the power (Amperes) they provide, the voltage "should" be pretty standard!

Battery experts say to try and use a charger that's rated half the power of the battery.
So for a 1500 mAh battery, a charger of 850 mAh should be a better option than a 1000 mAh one.
Yes, the 1000 mAh charger would charge the battery faster than the 850 mAh one but it will decrease the lifetime of the battery faster.
Just for be able to post new thread. Sorry.
Hello, I don't want to start a new thread so I'll ask here.
The charger that came with my OB seems to be damaged. It was working properly until last last night. My phone detects the charger but it won't charge. Got powermax turned on and it automatically turned off when I connected the charger, so I know my charger does have issues.
Tried banging the charger last night, connected it to phone and started charging, woke up to see that it stopped charging 2 hours ago. It didn't even fully charge my phone. Now I'm charging it with my pc via the USB cable. I noticed that the touch screen goes wild when I use it while connected with the USB.
Now, I'm planning to buy a Galaxy S2 charger. Is it safe to use? S2 and OB has almost the same battery capacity so I'm considering it. Any other suggestions? OB ain't popular here in the Philippines so finding accessories is a real pain in the a**.
Fitted a Corby 2 charger and it seems like they use Mini-usb too. Haven't tried charging with it though.
My original charger also died... Now I use the one that came with my bluetooth headset
So I guess using the OB charger on other stuff is okay too. USB is always ~5v.
You need to test the charger with something else to be sure, though.
I had the same touchscreen freaking out problem with my old LG KS20, whenever I charged it. Like it was shorted or something. So it maybe a problem with the phone itself.

So, you agree that I use a Galaxy S2 charger? I think it would be fine since my friend with an S2 used my charger to charge his phone and it went well. I'll ask him to buy me one tomorrow. Tnx for reply
Ok kabayan, don't forget to share here the result after u try gs2 charger. I too am looking for safe alternative to my milestone charger.
Standard port - standard voltage
Don't even bother, if it has a micro USB it should be fallowing the same standard as USB for charging (5V)...
Of course test the charger for any adverse side effects like screen flickering or short battery life, and don't use it if something like that occurs, but because of the standardized voltage and the fact that usually phone chargers have between 500 - 1000 mA, 99% of chargers work...
I still haven't found any incompatible charger for my phone and I don't even buy a phone if it has a non standard Charging/Data Port... it's just stupid... so no Iphone for me!

Hello guys! I'm here for an update. For the past week I've been using a Corby 2 charger. And guess what, it works just fine! only downside is it won't charge it up to 100% (usually gets to 99% upon unplugging). And it charges the phone a little slower than the original charger. I always let the phone overcharge overnight to have 100% battery.

Extreme battery drain

Hey guys,
I connected my phone to my PC over night for charging as always but when I got up and took my phone it only had 4% battery! It's like the battery just wiped itself from a moment to the other. And now when I try to charge it again the light shows it charges but when I turn on my phone after 30min the battery didn't charge at all... Did anyone experience this before? Do I have to buy a new battery?
Sounds like your battery is shot. So you may need a different battery.
Try different cables etc but if that doesn't work you need a New battery.

Tried a few cables. Weird thing though: In recovery it says 32% and when I boot it up now it says 9% but doesn't really change. Seems like the battery is screwed up... Could it be that the Desire HD has got the exact same battery? Because if it's so I could try with the battery from my dad's DHD...
EDIT: Ok, it's not the same This is gonna be expensive...
EDIT2: So I got my new battery but the phone still drains too fast imo and I can't really charge the battery to 100%... Is sth wrong with the USB-port??

This might help.
Let your battery drain completely and let your cell get switched off.
And then in switched off state, charge your phone completely.
Switch it on...Use your cell as you do it regularly.
Repeat this procedure 3-4 times.
You will be surely benefitted.
did you try plugging into the wall? different USB port?
I had similar issue awhile back that it didn't want to charge with USB but with the AC adapter it worked fine. Also noticed it wouldn't work with USB at all I sent it in for repair and it was apparently USB port broken. Then I had to send it in again because when they fixed usb they broke mainboard
p.s omg I hate captcha tried posting this 10 times ...
Looks like I forgot to post So here is what happened: I got a new battery but even that I couldn't charge with USB. Than I pulled out my AC adapter and it works fine now. Looks like my USB Port is shot but since it still works and just won't charge my phone, I'll ignore that. But my old battery was surely shot because I couldn't even charge it with AC adapter...
Sorry if this seems a little late. It could be the roms fault you are getting strange readings. When I use ice cold and reboot my phone, the battery percentage reading changes like crazy. Sometimes the reboot makes the reading go up, and sometimes down.
USB port breaking is a common fault on inc s, though, so it could be that also, as you have said.
I tried ar least 5 different ROMs so I'm pretty sure that's not it That was also the first thing that came into my mind;D

XPeria T charging problem...please help :)

Hello!
Well, I guess I'm the new (un)lucky owner of my stepfather's Xperia T since he decided Z3 suits him more (not that we are rich, he's just kinda shoppingholic or smth).
I replaced old HTC Wildfire S with it and I was fkin amazed. There was no root or tweak that could ever make that little HTC (who has supported me over the years even after falling in water and all other ****) be even a close match to my shiny new-old XPeria.
However, the phone keeps irritating me with it's charging problems.
I'm an electric engineering student and this crap sounds like connection problem (but I don't wanna admit it to myself), but I still hold your opinions to be very important since well....you guys know this phone through it's soul.
Here is the weird thing...
I got it with it's original charger while I still had a charger I used to charge my HTC. It was some old nokia cable and was charging HTC perfectly, always without a problem, but Xperia always seemed to have a bad connection with it. I tried it's original charger and almost the same. That was bearable until last few days, connection was starting to grow so weak, it took me like half an hour to make the damn phone charge. Worst thing, battery run dry, so can you imagine that feeling when you have to wait 5 seconds before the battery logo does it's animation before you can actually realize if your phone is charging or just "ate a spark".
I've searched on google and many people seem to be having similar, even though much worse problems (phone does not react to the charger at all) and I'm actually afraid that's where my dear Xperia is going.
Weird thing is when I visited my parents last week, I tried plugging it into my mother's charger (S4 charger) the phone started charging immediately, I tried rocking the charger a little left and right, and it didn't seem to distract it.
Tried friend's charger, same problems again!
Can't figure out what the problem might be...I thought it was the cable, then the port, now I don't know what to think of anymore.
Help please!
Thanks guys!
UPDATE:
OK, while I was writing the post and doing other stuff, the phone was charging, I disconnected it now to check for battery level, I succesfully turned it on (no more double red blinking) but the phone just showed PIN screen and Turning off.. note appeared. Which means after half an hour of charging, the battery is at the same level....?
Should I let it charge overnight?
I mean I don't feel comfortable doing it since I can't see the battery and my landlord has no tools in the whole apartment...Maybe the battery might be damaged...
Try your mother's USB cable with your recharger.
I guess it's your USB port that is dying.. .
PS now I know what's a stepfather.. LOL.. Thank you XDA (and thank you Google Translator)

Wohoo!
Successfully turned it on, after 20minutes of charging it's at 1% and hopefully it's gonna go up!
Oh! In the meantime the phone just turned off again showing empty battery while it was still charging! O.O
FU Sony. Telling my shoppingholic stepdad not to waste money on Z3. -.-
Try to clean the USB port with cotton and alcohol. Maybe it's only some dirt over the metallic contacts.

I'll try it, but still doesn't explain why the battery is still at minimum charge.

Good night and thanks for help!
Well, couldn't wait. Turned it on again. 32% as we speak.
Let's se what you've got for me this time Xperia...
By the way, I know the battery is most common problem on this cell, it kept restarting for my stepdad, he got the battery replaced already....
Well, fully charged today....who knows what the problem might have been...

So the battery is okay.
The problem could be: some dirt, a USB metallic pin bent or broken, the USB port entirely broken, or just an UFO that steals your energy only when you connect it to the recharger
