Hi, is there any chance to have a default android launcher and homescreen and actually all plain android system without these samsungs rubbish, what I mean - is any other similar android device on market which have plain android software and maybe we can just port (copy with or without modification) them into our device ?
Any advice ? which device is the closest to SGS ?
I know there is a few 3rd party launchers around but I wish to start to mod my phone from really basics, second thing samsung tWlauncher and other samsung apps are really poor. I am really beginner with android but if there is full SDK from google maybe we can just compile a new versions of launcher and any other components ?
Not at the moment but my guess is that when samsung gives us froyo (sometime in august) a vanilla version will be along in no time

I see some devs tweak Kernels and all to make what they have faster, and other devs work on porting other device builds but is anyone talented enough to build a Frankenstein droid?
The leaked Sholes screen shots running 2.0 kinda seem like it will be a whole new UI experience while using the device but the GUI is all still there, can we have some fun and start making different GUI's for Android?
There's the app drawer, task bar, three screens etc etc.
Why not mix and match if we can?
The Pulse's Wizcards and 3x3 display of home screens and the pull down notfication of new messages
The Blur's happening widget
Move the notification bar to the bottom
Put the app tab only on one screen
etc?
i would like to see someone make a whole new os on these android phones so we can say f u to google, maybe a full out linux distro based of debian like moblin

I think a major thing about making a new OS would be its incompatibility with the Android market and apps, I'd like to see a new GUI working with the Android apps.
if you got it debian based than you have way more options but a new os that worked with android apps would be the ****, i would love a awesome new os with compatibility
I might have to be an asshole and post this in Android Development section to catch some devs eyes.
Ive heard it may be possible to port ubuntu's mobile os to the g1....if that can be done, the sky's the limit
GNOME or KDE port would be AWESOME!!! Would most likely run REALLLLYYYYYY slow...
It may seem a stupid question but, since the news that Samsung won't be releasing ICS for the SGS I've been pondering my alternatives.
I would imagine a port of Nexus S ICS would work on the SGS' given their similar hardware specs but, of course, you would lose TW; Samsung's reason for not developing ICS for the SGS as there is not enough ROM for ICS + TW
I read on another thread that video-calling was not part of the standard Android build and was something that Samsung added. I myself originally bought an ICS because it was the only Android phone with a Bluetooth SAP stack, which I need to support Bluetooth integration with my car.
I have used video-calling and use BT SAP every day so would I be able to add these to a standard ICS build or are they integrated into TW? Back to my original question what else is built into TW?
Touchwiz is the layout of the original samsung galaxy s rom+some unique apps. The problem is in device maybe small amount of RAM and ROM.The Samsung would update to ics but only with touchwiz, like samsung galaxy s II
First let me say "Hello", I have been using another Android 2.0 tablet/e-reader device for 18months but kept having WiFi issues so when Dell offered the Streak-7 w/Android 3.0.X installed at close out {and rumors of a user created 4.X being tested} I purchased one and have been learning about its quarks...
The main question I have right now is.. can I add launching windows from the current stock number (5?) to something else (7) with out having to load a different "Home" launcher? (Had been using ''LauncherPro'' on my other device.) or can I add "Folders" which would open up as a launching window?
I have not rooted or other wise changed the basic factory shipped version other than getting most of my apps moved over.
The stock android launchers are very inflexable, pretty much the only thing that's adjustable at all are the size of widgets in 3.2+. Anything else is pretty much what it looks like and not changable.
If it's important enough you're gonna need to use a different launcher like launcherpro previously mentioned.
Thanks

Thanks for the fast reply! I really like the blue glow of the current launcher, and have always disliked the idea of paying of skins, but may just have to go that route.

In the beginning there weren't any launchers compatible with tablets, but now I think all the best ones are... My personal favorites are ADW EX and GO Launcher, so if you hate to pay, then I would go the Go Launcher route, it's what I run on my Streak 5 since I got it and they are constantly making it better
How likely is it that we will be getting 4.2.1 Jellybean for our HD2, I mean Touchpad ?

Probably in two weeks...
1. Please, let's not ask for ETAs from devs who donate their time.
2. Even jcsullins put out a pre-alpha CM10 before putting out a more full-featured one. Dev work takes time.
Exactly what kind of functionalities from JB 4.2 are you missing in 4.1 so you are asking for the upgraded version?
Let me tell you the new features in 4.2 and then you can tell me why you need it.
1. Camera app, 360 degrees pictures. Useless on Touchpad.
2. Lockscreen widgets - download any 3rd party app from Play Store.
3. Toggles in notification - added in CM, useless in tablet UI.
4. New Gmail app - download it.
5. New Clock app - download a 3rd party alternatives from Play Store.
6. Swype
7. Updated Google Now - update it from 4.2 gapps.
8. Daydream mode - doesn't work because the USB charge current is not enough to charge the tablet with screen on.
9. Multiuser support - do you even need it? Alternatives are available in the Play Store.

The new tablet ui with centralised softkeys and new notifications would be a great benefit
I can tell you this, teams are hard at work to bring 4.2 to the touchpad (I know of at least 2)
The thing with the touchpad is that it doesn't use standard code, it has to be heavily modified in order to work for the touchpad. This all takes lots of time that developers give, most of the time for free as not many people donate. It's coming patience is the key.

Slgihtly on a tangent, but this feels out of place on the ROM's post itself... it is a personal view, after all.
I'm hoping that the TP, if and when it gets internal storage (aka the USB drive partition) mount support on Android 4.2.x, has it mounted in such a way that the ROM doesn't move everything into a numbered folder (which is my pet peeve of 4.2 ROMs for, like, everything on Earth). I know it's nice to have separate storage for each user, but such a move would mess up (at least) webOS, Android recovery, and other versions of Android you may happen to be multibooting, not to mention "legacy" file-handling apps.
Multiuser support is really the main way that 4.2 is neat, but I have no use for it.
As for ETA's, friends don't let friends ask for them.
Hi, to begin if this is not the subject my sincere apologies, as you will see, I am new.
I have two appointments.
1- What would happen if I put the firmware of the Samsung J120M in my J110M. I've searched everywhere for a rom for the J110M and I do not find it, it contains Android 5.1.1 lollipop (But **** haha, it's ugly) the J120M also contains 5.1.1 lollipop (very nice, updated apps, very smart.).
Like every member of the community (I suppose) I am very obsessive. I like that my android is extremely tidy and obviously I like it. So for this first point I want to know if at least the worst thing that could happen is that you have to install the J110M firmware via download mode. Because if I ***** I ****ed.
Now 2 !.
As I never found a rom for this cel, it took me to customize it on my own. I replaced the samsung browser (for a more recent version) I replaced the touchwiz launcher (for an s7 launcher with icons of this one) obviously replacing the apk of the system. I saw a subject right here, where a developer posted s6 apps for any samsung device with android 5.1 lollipop with touchwiz interfaces. But none served me !!. I replaced the default apk (obviously copying) from the gallery, added the samsung player, also from My files, etc. And each one when restarting the cell phone threw the error "Gallery has stopped" etc etc. I deleted the data and everything, even reset the cel several times and it did not work. So if someone tells me how I could make these applications compatible for this cell phone (j110m) I would be very grateful.
