Hi everyone, This is my first post ever on XDA, I bought my New Galaxy S the other day from Ebay (i know.. but box was sealed and everything so all good)
and for some reason my internal storage is only 5.78GB! not 8GB..
I'm really quite annoyed as its a fookin expensive phone, anyone got any ideas??
whats the best mix of firmware / rom for speed / everyday use?
im currently on... ROOTED
PDA - XWJG1
PHONE - XXJG1
CSC - XXJF9
Also my rom is 1.74GB is that the same as everyone here's?
I have applied SU lag fix and the lag fix suggested in the forums and running autokiller set to max, its quick but still some noticeable lag at times.
also i think because of lag fix (su one) I can no longer install ashphelt.
Cheers
same for all models, they took 2gig and kept it for programs apps and stuff and god only knows lol its no big deal as its space we would just fill up anyway, just get a sd card if you want room to play with.
Its normal.
Did you know that even when you have a 80 gig hard drive you can use only around 74?
And that 1.7 gigs you mentioned do come out of 8 gig memory as well.

Hey guys,
I'm making this thread because i'm not really happy with the speed of my phone, and i wanted to find out if it's just my phone or if everybody has the same issues.
I have a rooted phone with Cyanogenmod 4.0.4 and a Systemforce 3 theme installed. I even had it overclocked with one of the apps thinking it would increase performance. I do only have the stock 1GB sd card though, partitioned into 2 for app2sd, which i'm looking to upgrade soon.
Basically the issue is that if there are more than one or two apps running in the background (god forbid more than a couple of widgets) my phone starts to lag. I always have to go and kill processes to return it to a good speed. Going along those lines, it will also start chugging when music is playing, and even worse now with Pandora running in the background.
But the worst are the few times when i press home in an application and the phone just stalls for a about 5-10 seconds, with my widgets and icons disappeared and only my wallpaper showing......and then they all appear again.
Basically i'd like to know if this is the performance that all of you are experiencing, and if not what can i do to my phone to improve it. Thank you
try a wipe and try flashing without the theme
My son is set up exactly the same as yours, CM 4.0.4 and systemforce 3 using the 1 gig stock SDcard and he's not having any lag at all. He also has a ton of apps on his phone. I'm CM 4.0.4 using the neon theme but I have a 8g card class 6 (well worth the investment) got it from Amazon for about $25 after shipping. So yes wipe and reflash CM 4.0.4 is fast
Did that, it seems faster now, we'll see.
I definitely need a new SD card, its probably holding the phone back.
I don't wanna start a new thread but is there any way to control which apps start up with the phone, because a bunch of them start off right away and it slows the phone down. It's not that much of a hassle to turn them off one by one but it's be easier to just pick the ones i want beforehand.
Any app that does that?
I found this app called Swapper 2 when I first got my phone months ago. I have no idea what it does other then it sounds like a lagfix before such thing was known. Theres not much docu's on it but from what I gather Its a Swap File to extend your working ram memory and it needs a Kernel to work. Can anyone shine some more light on this app and would it be useful on a SGS?. I can only think of using this on a G1 to extend its working ram to run 2.1/2.2
would like to know this as well so gonna bump this topic...
Its kind of like the page file on windows, Google search Linux Swap. I used to use it back in the g1 days due to the pathetic amount of ram it had . Simply put It creates a file on your sd card and 'swaps' information in and out like its an extension of the ram. You can set the 'swappiness' which is how frequently information is swapped in and out. I tried it out when I first got this phone it slowed the phone down for ne but ymmv.
Hi there,
im new on the Optimus X2 and i am trying to figure out what you can do withit.
i got several questions and hope you can tell and or help me withit.
My first action on using Android was to put version 2.2.2 i think, on my HD2 Leo using clockwork and NAND. Had no experience to do stuff like that before, but great forum here helped me trough it.
so...
1.
I´ve heard about problems with the battery, that lifetime is not displayed right.
I think i may have something like that too. sometimes battery run out after only about 5-9 hours (using web and/or games)of course i am using it in that time but that seems to be a little bit too fast. In standby sometime it is turning off after 12-18 hours, of course using it with calls and sms sometimes.
2.
There normally should be an update or something, i thought the X2 is beeing delivered with android 2.3.? or will be updated soon after selling?
Are there any official information?
3.
I thought X2 will be out with 512mb ram?
when i start 3-4 apps and close them down, sometimes the advanced task killer shows before closing programs only 50-60 mb ram (is it ram?), after closing goes back up to about 180.
its not that nice when you want to take pictures or record video in F-HD is not working properly. have to close down everything before.
4.
What is this Cm7? i read alot about it, but i still dont know exactly what it is?
I`ve allready rooted my phone, whats a good app for deinstalling systemstuff and preinstalled games and apps?
5.
What are the 10 most useful and must have apps/programs to configure, style, and use youre phone?
6.
Are you guys using different roms? are there faster ones, more stable, less battery using?
7.
I got an 8gb external sd card, system only is showing , 4,9gb of 5,9gb free, maybe an sdcard bug like HD2 Leo had a time ago?
phone specification:
phone is rooted
I am using android 2.2.2
Baseband version 1035.21_20110405
Kernel version 2.6.32.9
Build number FRG83G
LG Version LGP990-V10d

Battery life is a bit of an issue with the stock rom, since, on Froyo, there apparently is a problem with idle power consumption. This is much better on some of the custom roms based on Gingerbread, e.g. CM7.

The "official" rumours are, that there will definatelly be a 2.3.* update, though when is not clear, we will possibly have to wait until fall to get it.

Ideally, Android should be managin the RAM for you. The device does have 512 MB RAM, but mind that there is alot of stuff on the stock rom. You can have more available to you by
deleting or disabling widgets on the stock rom
installing a custom rom

It is called CyanogenMod7, and is a very popular custom rom, which exists for a lot of different Android devices, including the LGOS. It is also based on 2.3.4, so it basically already is a Gingerbread Rom, but I think it still has a Froyo kernel and/or userspace, so not completely native.

I'm not gonna call out 10 apps here, but living in Germany, you should definatelly check out "Öffi" (free). I also find Maverick (payware), GPS Essentials (Free) and Dropbox (free) to be quite handy.

This depends on how happy you are with modding your phone and flashing things on it. There can be quite a bit of work necessary to get a custom rom running on your phone, but it might be worth your while. I've used custom roms mainly for the fact that they can have massively lower battery consumption when the phone is idling (e.g. display off, standby). When using the phone actively, I've not found differences to be that big regarding battery life.

You are probably confusing the internal sd card with your external one. Keep in mind that the LGOS has a 6GiB internal sd card.
ok
thank you for this detailed answer.
i will take a look on the other Roms and will try it i think.
The problem with the sd card is not from confusing with the internal one.
Using the App, App 2 SD Free phone memory is showing me 1,45GB, on SD Card which must be the internal one shows me 5,51GB and on moveable which seems to be the external sd card it shows me 1,45GB again instood of my 8GB SD?
thx for help
After 8 months google finally fix the memory leak in android lollipop. Thanks :crying::crying: Am I dreaming?
Having the memory load increasing is not, in itself, a memory leak.
The Nexus 5 comes with 2 Gb of RAM, the goal is not to have memory load below 300 mb in every case (or you can buy a 512 mb-RAM smartphone)
The leak is a bug in memory management which increase memory load without any limit, thus slowing the device and crashing it. I did not experience this under 5.1 with Franco and stock kernel.
I can confirm that franco kernel does not solve the issue. For me the issue is easily reproduced by opening farm heroes saga and swiping it away, After a couple of times the system ram goes up to 1.4gig

This is kind of interesting. I wonder if the system management is to blame or apps themselves.

I found a solution. If you change the kernel (for example Franco kernel) all problems are solved.

did you write about this in bug tracker ? if not plz write so they can look where need to change some thing.
and btw to be frank i'm not having any memory leak or any other buy on 5.1 and i feels everything even better than KK also battery life is as good as KK after 5.1 for me
and finally did you do factory reset After flashing factory image ? if not do it , it seems unnecessary to lot of ppl to F.reset after fresh install but it does solve many problem so do it if you didn't and remember it for every time you flash the rom :good:
Issue stared and '+1 confirmed'.
Can someone mark the bug as critical?

The same problem with franco kernel, bad luck.
To recreate the problem, simply start a game like Farm Heroes Saga, then close it by swiping away. For each time I do this the system memory increases 100mb or more until there is no more space and then cell phone stops responding. Additional I noticed than when I start Farm Heroes Saga for example the free memory on ‘Show Cache Processes’ is negative as can be seen on the print I took, and there is no free memory, this problem can be recreated even in the first minute after boot simply by starting the game.
i don t know if is due to the memory leak but after 3 days (fresh factory image flash) i m facing the annoying launcher redraw and high system memory usage:780 mb with 1,2 gb of peak

I dont want to create a seperate thread so I am asking here. Got Nexus 5 a few days ago, started reading about 5.1 update and memory leak issue. Tried to update to 5.1 but gave up(usb driver issue). Today I noticed that ram usage for apps increases and does not drop down after shutting down apps (games mainly). System ram is constantly about 300-400 but app ram got from 300 to over 600 in about 6 hours. Is this also a memory leak or maybe apps just do not completely shut down?
Memory going up does not mean there is a memory leak, it means memory no longer in use has not yet been garbage collected which is fine.
Yes, I wouldn't go purely on what the stats say in Settings > Apps > Running.
I haven't made my mind up yet - memory usage according to that screen is even higher than it was on 5.0.1 yet apps aren't killed anywhere near as often. Of course, it's early days though.
It's been said before, but sadly the new "norm" is now becoming 3GB RAM for high-end devices... and most new versions of Android are going to aimed at running best on the new handsets. I suppose that's to be expected.

Isnt suppost Linux do same memory management with 2GB or 3GB of Ram?
Wich leads me to if KK,JB and ICS didnt had this memory leak problem how come this happens in LP?
That is one thing that I dont understand....

Of course it is,just to force older phones users to buy new high end Android smartphones with more RAM. Now 3GB of RAM s getting standart, next year 3GB of RAM will get too little and 4GB of RAM will become a standart and so on..This is how marketing works.
My N5 (Factory Reset then Flashed Factory Image then Factory Reset) is up since 73 Hours, it uses acutally 490MB RAM for System and 898MB RAM for Apps,
in these 73 Hourse the App-Drawer was not redrawed once. I hope it will run like this for a long time.
The only thing that hasnt work, was the flashing with the Flash-All.bat.

exactly ! but ppl need to understand that what they need with phone.
i don't see any app that need more than 2GBs for ram on market plus multitasking is exceptional in N5 for me bcz i don't use tons of chatting apps who always runs and eats all resources of phone , i use heavy games and N5 still works great with highest graphics...and i bet none of Samsung or any other premium devices works with them as impressive as this 1.5yr old device still do ! so for me N5 is still more than enough
phone shouldn't be excessive better in specs than what you wants from phone. Bcz it does't make any sanse unless one have lots of money and he/she only want to waste it one way or another
I thought this was fixed at first. I picked up my phone this morning and went to check news and the whole thing was froze for like 5 seconds then starting working, but stuttering. Do I checked apps and low and behold I had about ten apps restarting, just like in the previous lollipop. Except this time I only see half my apps restarting (so far) instead of nearly all of them.

sounds like almost my case
I've read several android blogs they claim damaging, HTC, ect have fixed the memory leak in their roms (although I heard people claim this in cm12 also). Just out of curiosity can anyone confirm this is true?
I tried loading and swiping CoC 5 times and my free Ram still remains at 1200.
My battery life has definitely gotten significantly worse after 5.1. Drained over 20% in just an hour with very light usage.
Hello. I have a question regarding my phone that is constantly running out of storage space and have to use cleaner almost daily. I would like to be able to install more games and other apps but I can't do that due to low internal storage space. I bought a sd card (32 GB) in the hope of installing or moving apps to It. Unfortunately I can't do either. I moved all other files to it but it's not enough. My phone is not rooted and no free program I have tried successed (thought rooting could help). Do I have to buy a new phone to get possibility of using more amount of apps or is there another way? If I have to buy a new phone, recommend me something please. I would like to get a phone with a comparable CPU and GPU or maybe better, at least 4GB+ and 64GB of internal storage or more. It has to be a budget phone but upgrade should be viable.
Hello, I'd like to asked to if you guys also experience this:
Whenever I try to maxxed out the volume and play something whether its a video or music, the phone just reboots right after.
Idk what happened but before I noticed those kind of stuff to happen in my Redmi 9. I just previously fixed it from bootloop w/o recovery & w/o fastboot due to downgrading from MIUI 13.0.5 CN ROM to MIUI 11.0.4 GLOBAL ROM.
So I was wondering whether it was a software issue or hardware issue in this case the battery. Idk if someone had ever tried this but I've watched a similar problem got fixed in youtube w/ Redmi Note 9 instead
with soldering or reheating the fuse within the battery.

Before, Android can still do that transfering apps + associated data to the sd card iirc it was Jellybean. Lol
But right now you can still do that but i think you need some root access correct me if im wrong. Though that is still not advisable cause accessing those apps would be much more slower or rather laggy than installing your apps within the internal storage.
One way to not run out internal storage is to transfer all "passive/static" files like photos/music/videos to your sdcard. The ones that are left for your internal storage should be the apps only that is if you want to install more apps in your device. Also you can set where the files should be saved everytime you take photo or video or download files, and set them to sdcard.
