Hi there,
im new on the Optimus X2 and i am trying to figure out what you can do withit.
i got several questions and hope you can tell and or help me withit.
My first action on using Android was to put version 2.2.2 i think, on my HD2 Leo using clockwork and NAND. Had no experience to do stuff like that before, but great forum here helped me trough it.
so...
1.
I´ve heard about problems with the battery, that lifetime is not displayed right.
I think i may have something like that too. sometimes battery run out after only about 5-9 hours (using web and/or games)of course i am using it in that time but that seems to be a little bit too fast. In standby sometime it is turning off after 12-18 hours, of course using it with calls and sms sometimes.
2.
There normally should be an update or something, i thought the X2 is beeing delivered with android 2.3.? or will be updated soon after selling?
Are there any official information?
3.
I thought X2 will be out with 512mb ram?
when i start 3-4 apps and close them down, sometimes the advanced task killer shows before closing programs only 50-60 mb ram (is it ram?), after closing goes back up to about 180.
its not that nice when you want to take pictures or record video in F-HD is not working properly. have to close down everything before.
4.
What is this Cm7? i read alot about it, but i still dont know exactly what it is?
I`ve allready rooted my phone, whats a good app for deinstalling systemstuff and preinstalled games and apps?
5.
What are the 10 most useful and must have apps/programs to configure, style, and use youre phone?
6.
Are you guys using different roms? are there faster ones, more stable, less battery using?
7.
I got an 8gb external sd card, system only is showing , 4,9gb of 5,9gb free, maybe an sdcard bug like HD2 Leo had a time ago?
phone specification:
phone is rooted
I am using android 2.2.2
Baseband version 1035.21_20110405
Kernel version 2.6.32.9
Build number FRG83G
LG Version LGP990-V10d

Battery life is a bit of an issue with the stock rom, since, on Froyo, there apparently is a problem with idle power consumption. This is much better on some of the custom roms based on Gingerbread, e.g. CM7.

The "official" rumours are, that there will definatelly be a 2.3.* update, though when is not clear, we will possibly have to wait until fall to get it.

Ideally, Android should be managin the RAM for you. The device does have 512 MB RAM, but mind that there is alot of stuff on the stock rom. You can have more available to you by
deleting or disabling widgets on the stock rom
installing a custom rom

It is called CyanogenMod7, and is a very popular custom rom, which exists for a lot of different Android devices, including the LGOS. It is also based on 2.3.4, so it basically already is a Gingerbread Rom, but I think it still has a Froyo kernel and/or userspace, so not completely native.

I'm not gonna call out 10 apps here, but living in Germany, you should definatelly check out "Öffi" (free). I also find Maverick (payware), GPS Essentials (Free) and Dropbox (free) to be quite handy.

This depends on how happy you are with modding your phone and flashing things on it. There can be quite a bit of work necessary to get a custom rom running on your phone, but it might be worth your while. I've used custom roms mainly for the fact that they can have massively lower battery consumption when the phone is idling (e.g. display off, standby). When using the phone actively, I've not found differences to be that big regarding battery life.

You are probably confusing the internal sd card with your external one. Keep in mind that the LGOS has a 6GiB internal sd card.
ok
thank you for this detailed answer.
i will take a look on the other Roms and will try it i think.
The problem with the sd card is not from confusing with the internal one.
Using the App, App 2 SD Free phone memory is showing me 1,45GB, on SD Card which must be the internal one shows me 5,51GB and on moveable which seems to be the external sd card it shows me 1,45GB again instood of my 8GB SD?

Hi,
First post here, but have followed these forums for a while.
Just a quick question. I just recently updated to Cyanogen 4.2.14.1 for my Dream. Everything works fine and smooth, and with the ram hack I noticed this even more. But I notice that when first booting my phone up, that after running Advanced Task Killer and stopping all apps after letting the phone boot, that my available memory can get as high as 45mb.
Problem is, it never stays that high, and normally after an hour or so, I average around 28-34mb available memory, even after closing all applications and running ATK again.
Is that pretty standard for the G1 on this build? And if not, is there something I should be doing to increase the available memory?
The build runs great (much better than 4.2.13), but it seems that when I see screenshots of ATK on other peoples G1's, that they are getting more memory.
Any suggestions for me?
Thanks
It's by design
Im not sure I get what you mean. Can you be a bit more specific?
I think what the poster meant is that the ROM was designed to utilize your RAM as much as possible to keep things running fast and smooth. As long as your phone is still running fast, why worry about it?

To expand on the other post, what good is ram if it is always free forcing applications to reopen. Wouldn't you rather have 15-20mb free ram to load new programs while keeping some of the programs you use often in ram, then have those get bumped out when more ram is needed.

Cause theres a difference between running "fast", and "as fast as possible
Im just trying to make sure Im utilizing the roms to their best potential, and I simply wanted to make sure that was I was experiencing was normal.

You make a good point. I was just confused as it seems I hear alot of people saying they can achieve 45 to 50mb available memory on a G1. I so far cant find a way to do this. Nonetheless, the rom runs super.
Thanks for answering guys.
Thanks, that was the point I was trying to get at.

I've got a few questions about installing to NAND vs running it from the SDcard with heret, I'll add the answers under the questions once they have been answered
-What's the difference in battery life?
-Does windows mobile unload completely?
-What's the performance difference
-Is there a difference in running memory size'
-Is it possible to switch the install to NAND from SD and viceversa without user data loss

1. It's about the same
2. Yes it's completely gone from your phone.
3. It's faster from nand
4. no
5. yes
I get much better battery life on nand. better than wm. maybe its just me.

Same here, except when i use a 2.1 build, they drain my battery like crazy. But MYN's donut gives me way better battery life than any wm rom.
that's cause they still haven't quite perfected 2.1 yet. but myns build is near perfect! and the speed on nand is amazing

more like definite battery improvement!
my phone actually lasts a whole day!
WITH heavy phone usage
but now that opera mini 5 is on the market.
the battery should last even longer now
no more having to load a whole page
just images of the sites! haha
The only thing that I would disagree with previous posters is on the speed issue. To me this is all dependent on the quality of your SD Card and your setup.
With a class 6 SD card (even without partitions) I saw little difference in speed when I flashed to the NAND, OTOH I'm sure people with slower cards saw vast improvements.
Getting ready to go to NAND...
I've been running from my SD card for several months and now getting ready to take the plunge by installing Android to NAND.
Questions...Once you install to NAND:
1) do all Apps get installed to NAND or can some get installed to SD?
2) I assume that you can still reference music and other files on the SD card?
3) Are there any drawbacks to going to NAND? Wiping windows from ROM is not a concern.
Looking forward to NAND.
Thank you for your advice!
i made the switch from sd to nand last week, and boy, what a difference!
battery life:
i used to get about ~12 hours with sd, with no data, no browsing, and limited texting
with nand, i have synchronization turned on for both gmail and work email, do tons of browsing, games, and making calls, and still have ~70% after 12 hours
stability:
my phone used to freeze up about once a day (sometimes up to 3 times) with sd install, since nand install, i haven't had one freeze up
definately worth the switch to nand!

Great! Getting ready to unlock my phone.
there should not be a significant battery difference nand vs haret IF you are using the same kernel. I suspect that people who note the difference changed from an older zimage kernel to a newer NAND kernel (.nbh), as there were significant battery improvements in the last 3 or so kernel updates. i agree with other posters that you probably won't see a significant difference in speed if you are running a fast sd card, maybe a small one.
i personally use nand, cause I have no use for win mo anymore.
I have to disagree with the others. I used the same date nbh as zimage and after flashing I get about 6 more hours of battery. and I have a good sdcard. on startup it even says [new high speed sdcard installed] my old 512mb card never said that. so I do have a really good sdcard and again, after flashing, its much!! faster!!!
has anyone had issues with loosing connection to their service provider with a flash? I'm on verizon and doing a hard reset on the phone has made me loose my information and have to call to get it reset up before. If that happens we have to flash back to winmo to fix it?

I'm on sprint I have that problem only if i flash to stock winmo then out to another rom without loading winmo, letting customizations run, then making a data connection, if i do that then flash then i have no problems. But i can flash from rom to rom with no provider data loss
Sorry to revive an ancient topic . I'm really thinking about making the switch from haret to NAND but I would really like to keep my data. The second post in this said that you could keep your data. Is that true? If so I'm flashing it tonight!

1. All apps do get installed to the NAND, and you can move some apps to sd in the applications settings
2. Yes, you can, altough i haven't had much luck with video (maybe because my sd is class 2? it plays for 1 second and then freezes, but sound still goes, and when i try to push something, it force closes)
3. NO DRAWBACKS WHATSOEVER please go with froyo
Hi, my question is simple but the answer could be an entire book...
Since we can no longer trust Motorola and their crappy customer care (don't want to waste time to say those things again, all of you know what I'm talking about )
I had a look over the Internet to understand which ROM is suitable for an upgrade, but now I am confused :
there are a lot of ROMs out there, and I don't have time to test each one (more, I have only this phone, if I brick it, or block it due to an unusable ROM I have to fix it asap.).
Is there a fully working unofficial ROM with a better performance than the stock one? (with flash and app2sd?)
I understand that the locked bootloader isn't helping on this, but I'm interested in the full features of my smartphone: if camera doesn't work for example, for me it's a shame (either if everything else works flawless..).
I am root already if that can help...
Thank you in advance
Pol.

Bro, try shadowmod b3,
I have used froyomod, cm6, hobomod and shadowmod,
I can undoubtedly say that shawdowmod b3 is the best one,
Advantage:
OK battery life, never lag, stable
Disadvantages:
Aggressive autokill
(but would not affect music player, doesn't matter to me)
SMS notification light doesn't work
Sent from my A853 using XDA App
be experimental
its a question of what u personally prefer...
aesthetic appeal,lag,bugs gotta be considered..
i use the beta CM6.1.2 milestone port...
its a lill(very lil) laggy but everythin seems to work flawlessly
plus the cpu is overclocked to 900mhz. which is favourable
try diff roms and choose ... but be sure to make a backup of what u already have
I am using for about two weeks ShadowMod B3 and I'm pretty satisfied with it.
Pros :
- fast ;
- ~stable ;
- no battery problems (1d and ~15 hours - moderate use).
Cons :
- can't listen music and play in the same time (player is killed) ;
- some problems with the gallery and with the camera (specially when pressing the camera button) ;
- about ~3 restarts per week (surely the problem is the ROM and not my OC).
BTW , my SMS notification works (green light blinking). :-?
Comparing this to what I've already used (stock Eclair , CM 6.1.2), this is pretty cool, but it would be much nicer is the agressive autokill could be removed.
Thank you for your answers
I saw an outstanding performance of Quadrant on a shadowmodded milestone on Youtube, but I am worried by those bugs: as I can see there are different bugs on different milestones (how is it possible? aren't they sharing the same hardware? )
What do you mean with "Aggressive Autokill"? No multitasking?
while the cons mentioned by Abazel are not reassuring
The little lags on CM are the only issues? I read somewhere that you can no longer mount the SD card via USB and that there are some problems with camera too.
How about random reboots with this ROM?
Thank you again
Pol.
CM 6.1.2 was pretty stable for me but I was a bit laggy (not very much and was ~the single problem I found). ShadowMod b3 it's a bit weird - it works downloading and playing something at the same time but I can't listen to music and play simultaneously - the player is killed => the music starts singing => stops again (thing which could have been done easily under CM 6.1.2). These days I am encountering several problems (restarts or freeze at "Gallery"). I don't know what is the problem. With the SD card i don't have any issues at all... works fine for me. So, if you want improved stability, go for CyanogenMod 6.1.2. If you want a "bumpy ride" , try ShadowMod. ) Have a nice day!
Thank you,
I assume that these are the two best options.
I wonder if CM7 is already stable enough or if it's better to use CM6 since it's already stable.
BTW I believe that ****ijsood is right, I have to be experimental. Just need to find some spare time to waste on this...
Yep, the main problem of shadowmod b3 is the aggressive autokill,
Because of this feature, the phone never lag.
Some think that this autokill is disturbing coz they are used to listening to music and at the same time play game.
But as I never do that, this autokill wouldn't disturb me.....
As this phone has limited ram, there is always a tradeoff....
I am not saying that cm6 is not good. It has the best features and widgets.
But I just cannot stand the laggy feeling
If the Autokill would affect only "heavy" apps like games and music players, maybe it's not so bad.
I think I'll give Shadowmod a try, I can always change again if I find it too buggy.
Thank you for your answers
polengo, or others, sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I was wondering if there are any 'improved" ROMS out there now for the MM1.
I recently acquired a Milestone (3-4 months) running Eclair and it's been kind of quirky. Random freezes, random reboots, laggy, when bluetooth or headphone is disconnected the music player starts on its own. Battery life has been quite good stock, with light to moderate use.
Thanks.
Cm7 for me has been the best. I have had one random reboot in the past couple weeks. runs smooth, and the battery life is as good as any other rom ive tried.
Well, right now, I think the best rom around is latest CM7 or HONOmod. Although, you might want to give a try to CM6 or Luca's froyomod, if you need an extra piece of ram. The only drawback with froyo based roms right now is the lack of active development. You have to face that MM1 is an old piece of hardware right now!
Enviado desde mi Milestone usando Tapatalk
The CM9 Alpha runs quiet smooth.
I use it in my daily life.
Trying to install HO!NO! using clockworkmod and keep getting (error 7). I am not seeing this error with other roms. I tried toggling the signature verification and that only pushed the error back a few more seconds. Should I move the file out of openrecovery directory and place it in the nandroid directory and ask Nandroid to perform a backup using the HO!NO! zip file? In other words, should I use your zip as a backup and not as a rom? I look forward to checking your ROM out. The buzz is pretty exciting. Thanks.
**Edit**
My bad, wrong thread. please delete.
HI guys, after flawless months spent on Fr18beta2 from Modaco, I decided to jump the hurdle & try this MKV-reading-supposed-to-be-snappier ROM (2.6.32.9, FRG83G)... while it does what it says (MKV support.. btw, is there a way to store LARGE files on ext-sd and have them read properly ???), I now get ridiculous Quadrant scores (1850~~) AND am not able to access the internal 8gb memory from my windows explorer...
Does it seem normal to you ? Is there a way to speed things up ??? Is there a Kernel I could use without losing mkv compatibility ???)
Thanks in advance for your answers !
Just installed Quadrant to check it out and got 2492. That's good, right? Much better than your result, and it is all stock. No problems with SD. Try flash it again, don't know what else to say.

Why spam the forum with posting this topic twice?
It's not as if I'd wanted to deliberately.... sorry :/
These are my observations in comparing my out of shop v10a ROM versus the June released v10d ROM here in the Philippines.
Pros:
GPS fix is now so much faster.
Battery stays at 100% longer.
After turning off USB mass storage mode, exit animation is now android-managed (faded zoom) compared to a slide out.
Cons:
PlayerPro 2.06 crashes.
There are times that if you plug your headset while the screen is off, it will not be detected. (It needs to be plugged while screen is on).
Overall, I am very happy with this ROM compared to the old stock. (All my mods in my sig.)
My UI freezes for 5 - 15 seconds, particularly when the phone regains network connectivity (reconnecting wifi or mobile network going from 0 to 1 bars). It's much improved after removing FB and Insta but. My launcher is even getting closed when the phone frequently, although the phone has ~500MB free RAM.
I dropped this poor phone one too many times, so before I replace it with another z3 compact, I'm wondering if everyone else on Marshmallow is seeing poor responsiveness as well.
I did have slow downs before but not like that,I have switched to Lineage and it works very well so I don't have any plans going back to stock Marshmallow.
yeah same here, i advice you to switch to lineage, you will feel like butter on the screen.
I don't have any lags at all, no launcher refreshes or whatever on stock MM. ( I don't use the horrible Facebook application)
Until 3 weeks ago, I used to have no lags at all on my stock Marshmallow 6.0.1 Z3C. I had uptime of 50 days and more and it didn't lag. Now, it happened twice in a row that my System RAM usage grew in last 5 days to 1,3 GB! It seems like a memory leak in kernel space. It's hard to pinpoint particular process. The phone is slow, multitasking doesn't work (reloads every app), my stock launcher redraws and the phone is unable to make/receive GSM calls - probably a symptom of low on memory state. I wonder, if it's caused by bluetooth driver, because I've transfered 100MB file on both occasions. I need more time to analyze this, this time I won't turn bluetooth on, so I can see if it is the cause.
Edit: I'm confident the cause is not bluetooth. Symptoms now appear after just 65 hours of uptime - . Now I tried to get rid of ES File Explorer, let's see what this bloatware did to system performace.
Edit 2: It seems the problem is gone after uninstalling ES File Explorer. Before uninstalling it had data storage set to external SD card. I replaced this piece of bloatware by open-source explorer called Amaze.
Thanks all. I was avoiding Lineage because I wanted the stock camera / DRM and their description makes it sound very unstable... "random reboots while charging", etc. I'll try it out anyway and add the stock camera back in if it runs well.

Do share the source of the issue if you find it. I'm still seeing UI lockups when the phone loses internet connectivity.

camera works like stock in lineage, don't worry about that. you can face with other small bugs but still worth to use, it is better than stock in most cases.

there must be a reason that it is slow as hell in stock while it works with jet speed in lineage. something related to sony software, hardware is okay.
Wipe cache (Power and vol+ until 3 Vibrations) helped a little, but i don't put too much hope in it.
It's my gf's Phone so i kind of hesitate to install some unstable beta on it. Or is there any real stable release out there?
Sony haven't pushed out any updates for over a year, so not sure how you can blame it on MM build.
It'll be an app.
My money's on Facebook or Messanger.
No lags or slowdowns on my phone, had the same build on it for a year now.
Autoupdates turned OFF.

Sony haven't pushed out any updates for over a year, so not sure how you can blame it on MM build.
It'll be an app.
My money's on Facebook or Messanger.
No lags or slowdowns on my phone, had the same build on it for a year now.
Autoupdates turned OFF.

Guess you're right, but i can't really accept a SD801 Phone being unable to run basic apps like FB

Last year Facbook deliberatly broke their app, made it run slow and heat your phone up, as an experiment, to see what people would do. They honestly don't give a sh*t about what you think of thier app.
Uninstall it and use your browser, see if it makes a difference.
Try SD Maid from the playstore, that does some good basic houskeeping

Nope.
I do not have a Facebook account.
Therefore I do not have facebook or messenger installed.
But I do have these slowdowns :-/
I read in an italian forum that it's the Google app fault, you should unistall updates and disable automatic updates until it's fixed.

It seems the problem is gone after uninstalling ES File Explorer. Before uninstalling it had data storage set to external SD card. I replaced this piece of bloatware by open-source explorer called Amaze.
Now I have an uptime of 125 hours and counting, my System RAM usage is 0.90 GB and it isn't rising to 1.3 GB as it did before. So the phone is really smooth again. When I was checking my LogCat using DDMS, there seemed to be recurring message of ES File Explorer (estrong) leaking something, I don't remember if it was a window or an activity. What a piece of chinese malware it became. Interestingly, ES File Explorer's memory footprint was low (3 processes, 10MB total user space memory), even when leaking memory and this made debugging harder. Although I killed it, when the phone had problem (1.3 GB system memory), only a reboot worked. It totally seems like a memory leak to me.
GL debugging yours.
it works good with me ..
try to make clean install
I'm not going back to this crappy app. Once, it used to be outstanding, but they probably sold the app to another company in China and from there it went downhill. A lot of popups and ads for things I don't need. Their only purpose is to make your phone slower (bloatware) and optionally, to get money from you. I like simple, minimalistic apps, which do things they are designed for and do it right. Just this Linux approach and also "less is sometimes more".
It's confirmed that ES File Explorer makes network connections to China in background, no thanks!
