i'm a n00b to the Android scene and my question is: does this affect the ability to update cooked ROMs here or do people here just work off 2.1 from a different phone... and does that create more hurdles than if the ROM were 'made for Hero' i.e. any unique handset dependencies, etc?
I'm in this dichotomy stage right now where I've read upteen hundred interviews, reviews, posts, comparisons, etc. of HTC Hero and Samsung Moment, and still can't decide, but am leaning to the Hero because of the excellent development that goes on here and because of Sense, even though I'm really yearning for that snappier processor, AMOLED screen, etc., I can't justify it if development is lukewarm compared to here and it seems updated ROMs for Moment are sketchy at best, in terms of getting full functionality out of the handset.
What I don't get is this... you folks here (devs, enthusiasts, etc), are constantly building new roms, but are they derivative of cupcake, or eclair? More so, despite whatever Sprint and HTC do or don't do (as it seems HTC is more concerned w/ the rollout of Desire), can I still get my 2.1 Eclair fix here, albeit original Sense, and is it mostly bug free/usable as a day phone w/o losing any *features* that I would get from a Sprint Stock Cupcake Hero?
I have a half mind to wait for a Sprint Snapdragon but no telling when that will be plus I can get a Hero for $60 now w/ free activation, and a Moment for the missus for $20 more, also no activation. That's a hard deal to beat, imo. But I find it vexing that there might never be an official Eclair update for the Hero, more so the Moment if it's incumbent upon Samsung to deliver as they have a track record of abandoning phones upon delivery.
Thanks in advance a million times for your response!
I have to act quick if I'm to get this deal, but these decisions are killing me.
if you can wait, wait for the supersonic.
otherwise it is really a matter of preference. my brother has the moment. he loves it because of the keyboard. otherwise the processor may be snappier but i can't tell a difference...
he doesn't run any roms, nothing worthwhile out there. And I am running 2.1 already thanks to our great devs.
For me it's really a matter of cost and time. I really need new phones and the time it takes to get a healthy discount on a 2 yr contract could be months from now.
The Processor in the Moment would come in most handy (I would think) in future Android updates; flash if it hits; and certain apps, etc.
But if there's not pushed updates to Moment, then it's totally dependent on the community and i don't think it's as strong as here, or rather it's in a much earlier stage...
I see there are two forums but upon initial investigation, I don't see these ROMS viable as day phones, more for testing and development
http://www.samsungmomentforum.com/rooting/?PHPSESSID=8c9ead9a3ee984137fea7bf4b21ad46d
sdx-developers.com
In any case, I don't want to deviate too far into Moment in a predominantly HTC board, which brings me back to my initial questions regarding how update cycle/process works here. Wondering what base platform devs work from, and if anyone cares about the potential 'official' 2.1 update and whether or not that changes a thing here.
Thanks in advance.
maybe this will help....

Personally I hated the moment, felt like I was carrying an Abrams Tank in my pocket, and its kind of ugly. But the HUGE issue I had with it was battery life. Litterally only got about 5 hours of LIGHT use. and only about 12 hours IN STAND BY! We had two seperate moments with 4 batteries and the ALL did that. Not to mention the OS feels so heavy on it and it is vanilla as possible. Now given they are supposed to release a "Moment2" that has an ASTC TV Tunner built in, but really? Do you want to carry around an antena and watch OTA TV on a 3inch screen? Come on. Ok, So it has an AMOLED screen and the Hero doesn't...bfd the Resolution is the same, you just have more colors...again do I need to bring up the 3" screen? Your not watching High Def movies on this thing.
When typing the moment can't keep up when you use the on screen key board, you really have to use the hardware keyboard even for short texts.
Onto the Hero:
We have fully working 2.1 Roms now, given they are buggy. Most of these guys will have it figured out in a week or so for a fully functional less buggy than Sprints 2.1 ROM. Personally I am still running 1.5 just because I don't see anything that 2.1 brings me that I can't live with out. And Ill be damned if im using a password to get into my exchange email everytime.
Read the article. I saw two issues.
1 - is Sweden CDMA?
2 - the Swedish release doesn't have to impact ours (US).
But then what do I know.

Samsung has great hardware, but they've historically SUCKED at providing firmware upgrades, and are infamous for hacking proprietary, undocumented extensions onto ancient firmware... then refusing to tell anyone how it works. Ask anyone who ever owned one of their Sprint PalmOS phones (SPHi300, SPHi330, SPHi500). The end result (at least with their PalmOS phones) was a phone that couldn't run most new mainstream software (because they were at least a whole version behind), but developers couldn't even write apps that took advantage of the phones' native features because they were all undocumented and incompatible with Palm's own official way of doing it.
Put another way, don't even THINK about buying any Samsung Android phone that's not already rootable and shipping with 2.1, because community-built new releases are the only upgrades they're ever likely to see. The Moment will probably get 2.1 eventually due to pressure from Google, but I really think that will be the Samsung exception rather than its new future policy.
The Cupcake ROMs are very mature and good for essentially bug-free daily use.
The Eclair ROMs are just starting (I mean, the last 2-3 days) to get there. Both of the good ones (Flipz and Danger) are still a bit buggy. Danger appears to be, at the moment, the one farther along (I think Flipz is on vacation) and might just be good enough for daily use. Definitely not quite 100% though, as it's still a Verizon ROM and missing a couple of things like Visual Voicemail.
I came frfom a Moment, let me tell you to each his own. If you prefer a hardware keyboard, and better colors, get the moment.
If you don't mind the virtual keyboard and want to be able to flash 3-4 times a week from development community, get a hero.
The Moment currently ONLY has a cooked kernel to flash that was made by someone who started at samsungmomentforum.com and moved to sdx-developers.com.
With the CL14 kernel update the battery drain issue was solved, after putting on that update I would get a day and a half on my phone with light use, it has vanilla android with no extra interface options, which could be a plus or minus on which way you look at it.
I enjoyed my moment, but was left "wanting more", so I traded it for a TP2, which has a huge development community. The TP2 left me "wanting more" because it couldn't do the things that Android could, so I traded it for a Hero and now I am completely happy.
To each his own, sir..To each his own ;]

Wow. I was going more for pointedly funny than dickish (you'll notice that I took the time to make sure that the results were relevant to his question, as 4 of the top 5 hits are recent 2.1 threads, most -if not all- of which have a description of what is and isn't working in the first post). If I was being dickish I would have just advised him to use the search function as some others are wont to do.
edit: Pardon. 4 of the top 6.
Wait for the Supersonic. Upgrade deals will come and go, that deal doesn't even sound that good to me.... your phone has made it this far, what's a few more months (hopefully... )
You will regret it if you don't once that phone comes out.

Made me laugh... And was helpful! (thanks for making my day)
Go for the Hero.. you will love it!
I love the people that say "wait for the supersonic". They have NO idea when it's coming out. The thing could come out in April, or it could come out in December, or it could come out any month in the middle. There's been no statement saying when the thing's coming out, and your guess is as good as mine (mine happens to be late August or September, to catch the Hero crowd wanting to upgrade).
If you like the phone you have now and want something with a snapdragon processor, then you obviously have to wait. I honestly don't see what difference a faster processor is going to make when it comes to the overall use of the phone. The 2.1 ROM's that are out now are so insanely fast that a faster processor would be overkill for the general use. It would certainly help with some of the processor intensive apps/widgets, but for general functions, I really don't think it'd make a huge difference.

That is my thought also. And frankly, my fervent prayer. I'm due for upgrade in December, and I'm hoping the Supersonic will be fully rooted and kickin' 3G butt by then, lol!

Personally, I signed a new contract when I got my Hero's. So I am stuck for another 2 years or what ever the time period is for an upgrade. I will be drooling over a supersonic, but hopefully by the time mine comes around I'll be able to get one of the dual-core 1.5 ghz snapdragon phones. Hell, I may bite the bullet on one when they do drop one on Sprint instead of waiting. I think I'll skip the current phase of 1 ghz devices though.

you're not a premium customer (premier customer? I can't remember the specific term)? I thought like 90% of Hero owners ended up in that category, simply due to the price of the plan.
Guess I'm not entirely certain, being that I'm not on a contract, and am eligible for upgrades every year (or so I'm told by my girlfriend lol)

Individual plan of 69.99 or more, family plan of 99.99 or more, or someone who has been a customer for 10 or more years.
So, yes..most hero owners should qualify for Sprint Premier, as long as your account is in good standing.

Yeah...see I didn't know that.
I'm on the 129.99 Unlimited plan x2 lines. I guess that qualifies me, assuming I don't drink all my money away and can't pay the bill.
I guess I will requalify around the begining of december. Good thing too, cell phones don't usually last me more than 7 months or so. They habitually end up in the toilet.
thank you so much folks! You have a been a world of help in final decision... I too feel the moment is too big, and realize samsung's lackluster handset support in updates over the years... i am definitely getting myself a hero.
funny that one or two of you mentioned battery life. I was reading a very verbose conversation on that on the moment board just yesterday between engineers but thought it was related to cooked roms. this concerns me now as wifey likes the hw keyboard of moment and she's also not a tweaker so cupcake/moment will do her just fine, even if eclair doesn't make it. She simply needs pictures, video, and mobile access to facebook for android and a decent browser as well as gmail, google calendar and such and she's golden; prettiness of gui is not a concern. But this battery problem is in the stock Sprint 1.5 Roms? She would not dig 5 hrs of battery life and I'd therefore have to waste the $35 fee in getting her over to another phone!
Say it ain't so! Does this affect all stock Moments if so?
Also... this Sprint Premier... is the reason for getting it similar to TEP i.e. upgrade options faster? What are the perks and is this a request i need to make?! More details please! I'm coming off 4 years of T-Mobile (although had sprint prior to), and am looking at the $129.99 Everything Messaging (unl. data, text, mms) - 25% monthly corp. discount so ~ $97/mo before taxes when all said and done. I would like to transfer asap as our phones are ancient; plan sucks @ 700 min (although very cheap at ~$52 before taxes/fees after discount); 2 years of contract doesn't bother me so much, but if I see the potential which happens from time to time (ETF change recently) I'll jump at breach of contract and void my contract. However, I don't mind not having a snapdragon at all. It's more important to get TX numbers (for discount and lower taxes/fees) before moving west. Frankly, I've been putting of the upgrade for far too long, invariably waiting for something better, or that next great thing. I was going to go HTC TP2 because of the excellent support from this community in the past, but w/ the announcement of win 7 and tegra and the cost of the tp2 i changed my mind.
Thanks!
The name Motorola is synonymous with smart phone technology right? But yet, they have no clue as to how to, properly, deal with the people who are their bread and butter. Their paying customers. The bionic should never have been introduced so early unless proper testing had been done to make sure they knew what they had and that it was going to WORK. I could have gotten a group of tech geniuses from M.I.T., to design, build and test this thing and get working prototype out within a month. Buy putting stockholders first, customers second, and, evidently employing second rate engineers, Motorola has done nothing but pissed off many thousands of the people that they rely on for their bottom line. If I were a stockholder, which I'm not, id sure as hell sell, and fast. Imagine all the technology, all the knowhow, and they can't get a product to market because it wouldn't work. Are you kidding?

Quality control can be very lacking some times. It does make one wonder how some problems fall through the cracks. Googles first 'Halo' phone, the Nexus One, was even proudly demonstrated in videos to have undergone rigorous testing in the factory before sale. Buttons were pressed repeatedly by machine to make sure they were resilient enough to last once the customer had one in their hands.
So what happens? Every single one of them has a power button that fails through normal use eventually! Oh, and a digitizer that's barely fit for use. Bloody HTC
OP, i feel your plight!
Thought this might be worth a thread....
I hear people talk about 'batches' a lot - with several phones now: the lumia 920, gs3, iphone, nexus 4 etc etc. Now I understand that it's just a shipping term, but is there genuinely a sort of continuing programme of improvement or is this some wishful thinking related rubbish that has evolved from forums??
What I'm trying to ask is, are these factories REALLY making tiny improvements every single time in some sort of chivalrous perfectionist crusade or is this all a placebo and/or wishful thinking on the part of the customer? I mean call me a cynic but don't these companies just wait to see what they can get away with?
Obviously during big 'crisis scenarios' (e.g. apple antenna gate) the company in question is forced to make changes/provide solutions but until it gets that big enough or THAT reported in the press, don't these companies just leave it be. I mean after all, wouldn't it make business sense for these companies to just not give a damn about quality control concerning minor things if they thought they could get away with it?
I'm yet to receive my One, but already I hear people saying things like 'yeah there's a gap but it should be sorted in the 2nd batch.' This is similar to stuff I used to hear about the GS3 on XDA concerning battery and also with the lumia 920 and its rattling vibrate. They never are sorted are they?
Just wondering, not trying to anger anyone, I'm just curious. Would love it if someone who has experience in the manufacturing of these devices or knows someone who does could comment.
I don't have answer for the use of the term 'batches', but if the handset is somewhat difficult to assemble, I would assume that the workers would get better at assembling them after doing it X number of times. So, while there's no difference in the components or assembly process, later ones may be assembled more precisely (and the first ones still pass nominal tolerances) due to the improvement in the workers' skill.
AW: [Q] A question about the concept (and reality) concerning 'BATCHES'
First batches which are produced at the very early production progress have a higher chance to be faulty than the later ones .
This doesnt mean that every phone if the first batches are faulty but chances are higher .
For example,my first HTC one had a bad glued speaker grill so it literally fell off .
I told HTC etc and they replaced it without question anything or blaming me that I did something wrong . I knew that the chances were quite high that mine would be flawed but it's still like hitting a jackpot in lotto .
The phone was sent to Taiwan for diagnosis so they can check what the reason was etc .
You can be sure that later devices will be nearly perfect and without flaws as there will be some improvements in the production. The current sold devices are to 99% perfect .
Just have a close look at the device before really using it or buying it in a shop , then you are good to go and enjoy this great device .
Hope that helps you , give me some feedback by pressing the thanks button

An article on my phone popped up (sorry forgot source) but it really looked bad.
Top Execs leaving.
Their Market share has dropped so low (under 4%) that some sites put them now in the "Other" Category (along with RIM etc.).
The HTC One is hoped to save them and most agree it's a fantastic phone, but now there are parts shortages and if you don't get that first wave you won't have a winner despite being better hardware.
Profits are down 98% from last year.
Profits are like in the Millions for HTC and Billions for Samsung (not sure if that is just for phones though).
Google HTC it's is all over the place.
I sure hope they can turn things around but now they are losing key people. I've had a new HTC phone every year since the Mogul (maybe earlier, been too long).
I don't think I've ever had to replace one (except one I bricked). Sold every one as working.
By the way I think this thread does belong here because the HTC One is Key and Folks Considering Buying one should know what's going on. I had no idea.
Sad that it popped up on my HTC Phone.
I too have a HTCONE and love the quality of HTC phones. But I also have a Samsung Note II. As for HTC going down hill, it serves them right for them locking down their bootloaders. First with the Evo 3D, and now the HTCONE. Yeah, I know they gave us htcdev.com but like with samsung devices, its so easy unlocking the bootloaders because Samsung supports our beloved developers. HTC just wants control, or some control, like our parents. Htc wants to say, "no no, you cant do that with your phone, it might hurt it". Htc doesn't want to give us "users" the choice to break our phones if we want, which is why they lock the bootloaders.
Htc thinks their slick too. With the evo 3d they allowed us to unlock our bootloaders but they wouldn't allow us to flash kernels, or downgrade our bootloaders. Which is why our developers found a way to hack into our bootloaders with the evo 3d to gain s-off. But with the HTCONE they also allowed us to unlock our bootloaders, only now they made it possible to flash kernels, their thinking if they gave us access to flash kernels, maybe our developers wouldn't worry about hacking the htcone's bootloader to gain s-off. But little do they know that where ever there's a rule, there's always someone who will find a way to break that rule.
As far as im concerned, htc is getting what they deserve. Htc had some serious followers until they released the evo 3d with a locked bootloader. I alone know of a couple dozen htc fans who stopped buying htc phones just because of that actoin of theirs. So I still bought the htcone thinking they might have learned their lesson, but NOPE, instead they release a dev addition, asking for more money for it. Htc is starting to remind me of Apple, lmao...

LOL, looking at it all wrong.
For the past few years people were complaining about HTC's marketing strategies, design, and other things. HTC is taking the power from those people who were directly responsible for those things people were complaining about, and giving it to new people with fresh ideas, new strategies and new direction. Its call change, and to me its a change for the better. You can already see the difference in strategy and its working. Those guys seem bitter that they are getting phased out. HTC is evolving and I give them kudos rather than keep the same people and be status quo.
I read that story too. While I agree that HTC has suffered I believe that story is hyperbolic. Some execs left, they all seemed to have other jobs lined up pretty quickly. The fact is things weren't going great. The fact that they left might be a good thing as they might be part of the problem.
Another fact is the HTC One has been and will continue to be a success at least through the summer. It needs the 4.2 update to compete. If it launched with 4.2 there really would be no place to complain.
I don't know what the future has for HTC but they are doing better than BlackBerry and Nokia if that means anything. As for the bootloader, you heard of Motorola?

I agree with the better off comments. The guy who is telling his friends to leave we have no idea if he is a disgruntled employee trying to blow the low numbers into a sensationalized story, or if he was legit employee that was valued at the company.
One truth we know, these guys that are leaving are the ones who drove the company downward, so yeah better off without them

Hmm I'm not calling you a liar, but I am skeptical of your "couple dozen fans" story. Even if it was true, it's only a minor amount.
Facts are facts and one fact is the android community that actually hacks, roots, installs custom software or even knows those options are available, is very small. The majority of android users have no idea or care less and it's not even close. Even smaller is the part of the android community that hacks and needs s-off on a phone like the One. I flash custom roms/kernels. S-off would be pretty cool, but it isn't really gonna offer me anything more than I already have. While it's a *bleep* move for HTC to do that, it is hardly the reason they are losing money.
HTC is simply falling off because they don't know how to market. They are doing a better job with the One, but it's almost too little too late. Samsung is the new Apple and the war between Android and Apple consists of Samsung and Iphone/Ipad products thanks to huge, clever marketing. That's pretty much what it boils down to. There is a reason why advertising is so expensive.

Again, the 4.2 update will be nice, but nobody pays attention to that outside of the hacking community.
Samsung s4= Android Jelly Bean
Htc One= Android Jelly Bean.
What's the real difference, the real selling point to an average android user of 4.2 over 4.1 ? They aren't going to care.
You know what they see? They see Samsung commercials banging on Apple, they see software gimmicks like "smart scroll' and other "shinys"
Cool camera features, IR blasters and other goodies to show their friends. They aren't looking for better bluetooth stacks and the like. Heck even windows is getting in on the marketing ploy, showing commercials of android and phone users fighting each other, it's all marketing.

Couldn't have said it better myself. XDA has what... 5 million members world wide... World population is estimated at 7 billions (in 2012)... assume only 1/4 of those own cell phones and lets double the 5 million number... so 1.75 billion potential cellphone users... lets just use the 50% marketshare for android... so 875 million android handsets out there...
10 million / 875 million = 1.1% ... Yes these numbes are 100% pulled out of my behind but we can get even more liberal and says 1/32nd of the total population own cell phones... that would equal roughly 9% of the cellphone population would care about unlocked bootloaders...
Well I don't know the story about unlocked Bootloaders w.r.t. other brands, except I do know it's extremely difficult on iPhones to Jailbreak (if not impossible on iPhone5). But I don't blame HTC at all. I'm sure a lot comes from carriers. They don't want unlocked devices on their network. Sprint/AT&T/T-Mobile etc. is their customer.
I also agree many don't know what a bootloader is, but it's really surprising to see things like RootExplorer, Titanium Backup, ROM Manager etc. as top downloads on Google Play. Although the stats might be skewed with all the "Wiping" and Reflashing
Interesting some see it as a positive move. Well one of the lead technical guys responsible for the HTC One just left. And the CEO said he'll step down if HTC One fails.
Yeah the new direction might be more plastic to compete with Samsung.

Just so everyone's clear, this is not as big of a reason as this person has made it out to be. The amount of people who care about the bootloader or rooting the phone when buying an HTC phone is probably less than 2%. The problem is they were crushed with Samsung's huge spending on advertising. They even got a little bit of free advertisement for those who just pay attention because of their problems with Apple. That being said, HTC is putting more into advertisement, but they are having a hard time delivering their products. With them now being a B-List consumer for parts, it's hard to deliver the products to the demand. People now have to say "Well, I either settle with a Samsung phone, or wait for an HTC One to become available." I believe they'll bounce back, but it's going to be a tough year if they can't produce more of these phones and get them into the hands of the customers that want them.

As others have said, it's a very small minority that care about unlocked bootloaders, etc. Companies aren't making huge profits because of the number of people buying the phone for root, S-OFF, etc. Profit margins are based on the masses.
The real problem is the G3 was a helluva phone that was the best android phone at the time, far beating out the Evo3d, which was a crap "upgrade" to the badass Evo. And Samsuck had a helluva marketing scheme. It appears Samsung is now following Apple's lead in putting out new phones without much substance, but people "have to have them" just like iPhone users have to have the latest inconsequential update. The One is a great phone, but there's a reason I didn't renew my contract when I bought the phone. Hopefully HTC can right the ship, cause I love this phone and HTC, but you have to keep up in technology (especially wireless) not just in hardware but also in customers' perception of your products. (marketing)
I will say, I was putzing with my phone this weekend and a friend asked if it was The One, saying he was jealous after I said yep.

As for the GS3 vs Evo3d... it was actually the GS2 (Epic 4g Touch) vs the EVO3d... GS3 came out later.

I'm sure that percentage is much less than that even.
HTC hurt itself with Sense 3 as beautiful as it was, it lagged. Sg2 was smooth, a lot of employees at radioshack, best buy and sprint were recommending Samsung over htc because of the lag.
I met a radioshack employee who told me he had the og and got the 3D and then sold it for the sg2. He said he was happy with the move. Hi showed him my 3D at the time and yeah it lagged big time. Interestingly enough the guy told me to check out themikmik for some faster roms than the ones on xda for the 3D.
I don't want to discredit the guy with 12 friends who bailed on htc, they could have been mobile kiosk employees at the mall who recommended Samsung over htc.
Back on the current generation of phones, the one is better, sg4 lags. Might be too late if Samsung developed some brand loyalty over the last 2 yrs. As for the storagr/lack of sd, regular people don't care about it. Only here on xda people care so they can carry entire music collection and/or their pron. I'll be honest I would carry more pron with me lol
Its not the end of htc, someone will buy them to get into the mobile game, give them some cash and breathe life into the brand. I'm thinking HP would be a great company to take over htc.
Again the blame for htc downward trend lies with these guys that are leaving the company

Very true and it was the evo lte vs gs3. I think another major issue that plagued the lte was the fact that the form factor is different than the one x.... Samsung made the gs3 the same form factor across the carriers. I believe this helped boost their rep with consumers. Because if I'm not mistaken HTC and sammy were pretty closely tied prior to the gs3 release ( and I know they marketed the **** out of the phone but again they only needed to advertise one device where HTC had what like 17 variants of the one last year?)
As for et4g vs 3d I had both... Twice actually and both times I preferred my 3d by a looooong shot. Battery life was so much better, beats, I liked the development better and as for speed they were close but I'll take a Qualcomm over an exynos anyday. The only reason j kept switching was because I was in a wimax area so refused to upgrade to lte and wanted to play with something else.
Another thing that hurt them was the numerous release of so many different models after the HTC evo all with different names, there was no market branding to it. think of htc sensation htc rhyme htc insert name here. Samsung chose the different route release on all carriers distinguished their brand with a common name "galaxy" series name. Every day users will see a Samsung and go oh that's a galaxy device.
HTC should have stuck to the evo brand as that was the one phone that people recognized and just used that name across the board, they are trying to do this now with the "One" series but it has been a little late.

My whole thing about sd card is not for more storage to store music and such. It's the damn games that take up all the spaces. Games like Gameloft, gta and such 3d games uses a lot of storage space. I bought a bunch of gameloft games for a buck a piece back then and my son and i loved to play them. I'd be damn if i can't install all the games i have on a such flagship device.
Who knows, maybe just my family who play these games on these capable powerful devices.

A few years ago, there were a lot less people with smartphones and were rockin phones like Rumor touches because texting was the hot thing. At that time, phones made by HTC were high end and distinct from others so people got to know the HTC brand as awesome! HTC lost that touch at some point and failed to continue that connection with customers by getting a little greedy (imo), trying to fast produce all these different phones at the same time which imo, some of them were soso quality and people started saying bad things about HTC. If they would have stuck with awesome, unique, distinct, and innovative devices, that's what they would be known for today. But instead, now people only see Samsung and Apple as top dogs. The " Quitely Brilliant" slogan fit them very well at one time because HTC was small (compared to Sami/Apple) but had a big punch when they brought a new phone out. Anyhow...I hope HTC can turn this around and if not, hopefully Google will buy them. I absolutely love my ONE btw.....
via phONE.
Chou needs to go. The beats investment, bloated sense 3 and a continuous dive in revenue have all been under his watch . Any other ceo would have been fired long ago.

I have a sneaky suspicion that all the "New reports" are fraud. Like ppl tampered with the notes to get a pay day. I feel Samsung is only stopping sells & production as a "just in case" it is real. I highly doubt Samsung made the same error twice in a row. I'm holding on to my note until an official statement comes out. I think Sammy just knows that for the life of the note7 these reports will keep popping up and they'll be losing millions in bogus report investigations and fake litigation ... What do you guys think?
I think it is highly possible

I don't blame them for pulling the note series. It may not even come back. The note name is tarnished now. People won't be so trusting of it. They may release a 7 edge + lol. We shall see.

Either way, You can forget about any future software upgrades and support from Samsung or the XDA community. It will also have ZERO resale value on the streets and through JUMP and the stigma of owning one will be the same as being a fool for not caring about your safety. People will look at you as a terrorist who carries a potential bomb in his pocket and you will not be able to board planes, cruise liners, etc... with it. The Note 7 was the best phone I ever had. However, it's only a phone. I moved on with my life. Yesterday I changed it for a Galaxy S7 Edge. I will have it until the S8 comes out in the future. IT's just not worth it; too many hassles for a phone that cost almost $900.

I'd think that for its reputation's sake, Samsung would be quick to point out that some of the phones had been tampered with.

how would Jump be effected? I read the other post in here about it and contacted T-Mobile and until anything concrete comes out they said its nothing more than what it always has been Jump from one phone to the other. Did you personally hear something otherwise
I was told that you will always be entitled to a full refund on the device, therefore, its market value is irrelevant. Keep it until you want another device and then get your refund.

I don't care what people think. I can throw a case on the phone and a skin no one would know it was a note. And honestly if this phone didn't get updated for a year when whatever replaces it comes out it will bee ahead of everything out... Android 7.0 didn't really bring anything Samsung doesn't already have so I'm not missing a game changer. But I will miss my SPen! And jump won't be effected, and I have jump on demand so maybe something will catch my eye. And these days (Samsung pay, s health, private folder, iris scanner) I don't root anymore because I'd lose to may features. Idk I just don't want to lose something great because of liars.
And technically it hasn't been recalled. These are just preliminary steps what are the chances, after the investigation it is deemed a recall isn't necessary , I wonder

Even if they do come back in a month and say "false alarm, everything is fine guys" it's always going to be planted in the back of my mind as a what-if. Meaning that I'll always be wondering if my phone might develop that flaw that causes it to fail and tarnishing my experience with the phone. It's a great phone and it'll be hard to replace, but I just can't enjoy using it now. Probably a silly thing to think, but there it is.
Stopped at the local T-Mo store to check out the S7E... First it doesn't come in black or at least T-Mobile doesn't stock the black version - I'm not a fan of shiny phones. While the size wasn't much of a difference, It's still a difference I'll notice.
I'll be keeping my Note 7 until they pry it from my cold crispy charred fingers!
