I'm sorry, i know theres lots of post on this already, but i can't find one specifically for the N1 to disable the OTA notifications. I'm really struggling with this for some reason lol. I just want that stupid pop up that comes up every 10 seconds to go away, the one that asks to "update now", "update later" or "more info". I dont really care if it downloads the update or not i just want to not be bothered to install it.
Just incase its needed, im running a rooted N1 and its FRF50 build, android 2.2.
Thanks all for reading
I read somewhere a while back that in Froyo, its impossible to stop OTA update notifications even with a custom ROM because the file that causes the phone to check for OTA updates is necessary for other reasons. If you really want to stop having these OTA update notifications, try installing a rooted FRF91 instead.
ok, im on FRF50 now, would you be able to point me in the direction of a link for that download? i know how to put the phone into recovery and do the update, but the last one i found that was suppose to do that didnt work. I love you advice though, it sounds like exactly what i want to do! be up-to-date and no more annoying messages!

You just download the zip and manually update as you normally do without any wipe and you'll be fine.

My phone is running build FRF33B (googling this build number returned no results at all). It was a non public build. I got the phone from Adobe as part of a (kongregate) promotion to get flash developers to edit some games so they could run on froyo, and hence I really don't know what was done to the phone before I got it (there's an unlocked symbol when it boots, and even though it's a t-mobile nexus I'm using it on AT&T's network).
FRF33B is nice and usable (but full of minor bugs which get irritating after a while), and I'd really like to update to the latest stable build, but it's not receiving any of the OTA updates, and trying to install any manually gives me a package signing verification failure.
Does anyone here know how I can update the phone? Do I need to downgrade it somehow? Do I need to root it? Any help would be appreciated.
Downgrade to erd79 would be my best suggestion and it will update to frf91 I hope that helps and if u need a update zip let me know and I can email it to u

Or just unlock your phone, put a custom recovery, and install whatever ROM you want. Look at the sticky in the development section for details.
Option 3: Search around for the FRF91 Universal update.zip, copy it to your SD card, and flash it via stock recovery.

ok I've done this, and flashed the universal FRF91, now the phone is stuck on the animated X, is this normal? Do I just have to wait or did I do something wrong?
edit: it looks like it just rebooted itself.... still not getting past the animated x part though
edit: wiped the phone and tried again, now it works... got to set up everything on the phone again though and download my apps again... oh well. thanks for the help
Okay so first off let me just say im a total noob at this(as my name implies). My captivate is the first smart phone ive ever had and im just trying to get ahold of all this stuff, so please bear with me here.
Since ive gotten the captivate ive:
Rooted it(not even really sure how)
root explorer app
busy box installer(not really sure what it does)
Titanium backup
Astro file manager
Task Manager
I also had one-click lag fix but i deleted it
I did the app unlock with root explorer and SQlite to remove the annoying att apps
So all this is good and well but now that Im trying to update the phone, it wont update...
It downloads the update, then restarts to the white update screen with a blue bar, then never updates and just restarts. It says unable to update.
And when I try to resume the update it just says "no firmware"
I have no idea whats going on!!!
Also, when deleting un-used apps, I also deleted some files by accident that I thought were useless... they said they took up no memory so i deleted them n realized that was prob a bad idea! Not sure if that may be a cause...
I know that im probly just doing something stupid but then again, i have no idea what im doing!
Please help me out!!!
Thanks
If your phone is still JF6 and your in the US then you can download Mini Kies from Samsung Download Center (which seems to be not loading at the moment Oct 14 12:15pm)
Soon as you start tweaking your device - it will end up fubaring the ATT update. It isn't your fault - its the way AT&T/Samsung setup the update process.
But on the plus side it means it didn't brick your phone.
If your looking just for a stock build of the latest and greatest OTA update with all the bloat - I'd suggest you look for the Odin 1 Click that designgears has posted in the Dev forum here. As long as you have A) DISABLED ANY LAGFIXES! and B) can get into Download mode - its a snap and completely safe.
You will have a completely stock phone and have to restart from scratch - but sometimes thats a good thing
Thanks guys!
Yea, im pretty happy I didnt brick it!!!
Ok, so the phone isnt running badly or anything. It occasionally lags but thats about it. So I dont think I need to flash it back to stock. I just wanted the update for it(mainly to hopefully help the gps which is worse everyday).
I guess its good to know tho.
So what exactly is the kies?
I found it on the samsung site but im not really sure what it is. Driver?
Thanks again!
Kies is Samsumg's attempt at interfacing software (and poorly done if you ask me). If you're in the US, then you have to download the full Kies package as if you live in a different country. It's kind like iTunes but not excataly.
Mini Kies showed up for updating to the newer JH7 firmware. OTA updates were bricking too many phones. I'm hopefull that when the official Froyo drops, this will be the preferred method for updating.

First of all, I hope I've put this in the right section... If not, please move it to the appropriate location and don't get too mad at me. I'm running an Acer Liquid E with cyanogen on it and I have found that I am completely unable to install my favourite app ever. Tasker is something that I have been using for a few months now and really don't know how I could live without it on my phone anymore... If I try and install it from the phone I get an error message saying that the application could not be installed. No more information than that from the device itself unfortunately. I then tried to install it through ADB and it at least cranks back that it cannot install due to a missing DLL file. I was able to use Tasker on the official 2.1, and the official 2.2, but with CM on it I can't get anywhere... The problem is that I won't go back to the stock rom since my phone crashes every time I make or receive a phone call after 10 minutes of the phone being in standby, and I need to wait for the radio to reboot before I can even make a call. Any suggestions? I am more than willing to pull the offending DLL file out of the stock update and place it in to the CM rom if anyone might be able to point out which file I need and where it would be located. Please let me know if there is any more information I could provide that would help.
Maybe try the Liquid Metal ROM on top of stock 4.002.14, it's pretty fast & maybe it'll fix your crashes too.
Alright, definitely willing to give that a go, but I'm kind of new to playing around with my Liquid still... Things are a lot different with it than my Magic was. When you say stock 4.002.14 do you mean the official 2.2 update with a custom rom flashed over top? I don't entirely follow you here, but that could be just because I'm tired. Just search for some Liquid Metal how-to guide lovin' I'm guessing?
edit: Thanks dude, you rock! The Metal rom fixed all my issues, and sped my phone up too, and without needing to push it up to 1GHz... And I get to go back to having my bottom mounted notification bar again! Awesomeness all around. Thanks again.
Hello guys.
This is my first time posting on XDA. Although I have been going to XDA alot of times because I usually find help regarding my phone here. I hope any mistakes I made in this thread is forgiven. xD
Anyway, my problem is that I cannot update my phone to the latest gingerbread version which is the 2.3.5.
But here is the weird part. I did get an update notification that asked me to update. This notification came a few days ago. However, I could not update the phone at that time since I was not at home.
Then when I was finally ready to update, I pressed the 'check now' button at Settings > About Phone > Software Updates. However, the phone said that my phone is already up to date. But it is weird since when I check it, it still says that my phone is currently on 2.3.3. Soo, can anyone please help me?
Thanks for reading. Any replies is greatly appreciated.
Keep checking..
Or you could look in the ruu thread for an update for your region/carrier.
Just make sure that you have researched enough about the subject before you do the update as many users get problems with it, especially if they have unlocked hboot.
Thanks for replying.
About the RUU, isn't the RUU is for those who rooted their phones and wanted to return to stock so they can update? Or something like that?
And the reason I'm wondering is because my phone is not rooted, or unlocked in any way. Still a virgin phone. lol.
ruu's are official updates from htc, although many users with rooted, unlocked, custom roms use them.
will be much easier for someone with a virgin phone to use ruu update but you must be very sure that its for your phones carrier
the best way for you is to keep checking for an update through your phone many many times until you get tired from it but failing that, the ruu option comes a close second
Hi Buddy!, Why don't you update your device via the downloaded RUU file but not the OTA? Have a try!
Really? My bad then. Since I never got interested in rooting, I never really researched more about ROMs so when I did a quick google search of RUU I thought it is related to rooting. xD
If RUU is more suitable for a phone that is still unrooted, how may I do the update? Would it be possible for you to provide a guide, link, reference or anything that might help?
Another thing, if I do this RUU update, will the contents of my phone stay in there? Or are they going to be wiped clean?
Thanks again.
heres a list of the ruu's

I need some help. I have a revolution with 2.2.2 still on the phone. due to being a noob I tried to install a gingerbread version of a rom on the phone of course It didn't seem to work. by the way i should mention I am rooted and I can not upgrade veia the phone upgrade failed every time. However in the research I have done has lead me to believe that all of the roms I want to try to get a hold of are on a non existence web sight Right now I just need anything that will get my phone back up and running. I would very much like to use the revolt Rom but again the multiupload.com is down. Can anyone help me with this. I have searched the sight but I seem to be going around in a circle.
Ok so thank you for helping me out, however, being as I am slow to understand things. I figured things out. and just so everyone else doesn't feel bad. I have no problem with people laughing at me
this may help...

im currently dabblin with this one since my phone is still runnin 2.2.2 as well, reverted to stock rom unrooted everything and no ota updates so this is how to do it manually.
as long as its not currently bricked otherwise u have to do it the long way. i think, unless im thinkin of my old droid... but if this doesnt help give more info and someone will be able to help
regarding OTA, does anyone know the name of the file, and what folder in which to find it? Tired of having to DL it aGAIN every time whatever I try fails. I'm guessing cache....nothing seems real obvious, like it was on my Bionic
(update, got update to complete 2nd try, MtMichaelson is slightly richer!)
