[Q] Cannot get the phone to update to 2.3.5 - HTC Incredible S

Hello guys.
This is my first time posting on XDA. Although I have been going to XDA alot of times because I usually find help regarding my phone here. I hope any mistakes I made in this thread is forgiven. xD
Anyway, my problem is that I cannot update my phone to the latest gingerbread version which is the 2.3.5.
But here is the weird part. I did get an update notification that asked me to update. This notification came a few days ago. However, I could not update the phone at that time since I was not at home.
Then when I was finally ready to update, I pressed the 'check now' button at Settings > About Phone > Software Updates. However, the phone said that my phone is already up to date. But it is weird since when I check it, it still says that my phone is currently on 2.3.3. Soo, can anyone please help me?
Thanks for reading. Any replies is greatly appreciated.

Keep checking..
Or you could look in the ruu thread for an update for your region/carrier.
Just make sure that you have researched enough about the subject before you do the update as many users get problems with it, especially if they have unlocked hboot.

Thanks for replying.
About the RUU, isn't the RUU is for those who rooted their phones and wanted to return to stock so they can update? Or something like that?
And the reason I'm wondering is because my phone is not rooted, or unlocked in any way. Still a virgin phone. lol.

ruu's are official updates from htc, although many users with rooted, unlocked, custom roms use them.
will be much easier for someone with a virgin phone to use ruu update but you must be very sure that its for your phones carrier
the best way for you is to keep checking for an update through your phone many many times until you get tired from it but failing that, the ruu option comes a close second

Hi Buddy!, Why don't you update your device via the downloaded RUU file but not the OTA? Have a try!

Really? My bad then. Since I never got interested in rooting, I never really researched more about ROMs so when I did a quick google search of RUU I thought it is related to rooting. xD
If RUU is more suitable for a phone that is still unrooted, how may I do the update? Would it be possible for you to provide a guide, link, reference or anything that might help?
Another thing, if I do this RUU update, will the contents of my phone stay in there? Or are they going to be wiped clean?
Thanks again.

heres a list of the ruu's

Unroot help, yes I have used search

Hello everyone, my HTC DREAM touch screen just died on me today meaning it doesn't detect me. I tried battery pull and soft/hard reset and even wipe. I plan on bringing it back to rogers for a replacement or repair but I gotta revert this back to stock. My Phone is rooted and is rogers its also running cyanogen. How I unroot and install the factory firmware, i have looked through google and here and i may missed some or didn't see any results that reflected what I was looking for.
You obviously did not search Google correctly.
Al you'll really need is to find the DREAIMG.nbh file for RC29, and use fastboot to flash it over. That should take you to 1.0, I believe. You may need to find an official OTA update for Cupcake to flash as well, you may not.

Just getting it back to 1.0 is fine. All the OP would have to say is he never wanted to get the updates.
Here is the factory cupcake build you can use. http://androidoverdrive.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=85
So if I unrooted using the DREAIMG.nbh procedure 48 hours ago, how long do I have to wait for the OTA upgrade to bring me current? Is there anything I can do to hurry it along? For example, will it not come through if certain apps are being used, etc? Or do I just ... wait longer?
ummm, Rogers doesn't have OTA updates. Just get the e911 update thing from rogers and run that. It will unroot you and put you to the latest rom.
FYI you can now say good bye to root as the new phone that you get from rogers will not allow root.
I feel for you as I am in the same stupid F'N sinking boat. F Rogers.

I will not scold you for not reading enough or reading correctly. I have been reading this site, others, and searching for 3 months to get to the point where I am now. There are thousands of posts and it is often difficult to piece it all together and sort the wheat from the chaff.
I can offer what I have found.
1.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=534464
I thought this post might be helpful since it offers a stock rogers rom, but it says 32A, so I don't konw if that will work with the Dream.

This thread has a link to:
"
http://haykuro.polygonize.com/ROGERSDREAM.nbh.zip
"
This seems cool, but i can't find an md5sum for it, so there seems to be no way to verify the download. It would be a shame to brick the phone with a bad download.
I wonder if anyone has used it successfully and has a checksum?
Maybe [email protected] could help us?
3.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=544654
has this:
"
Regardless, heres the original radio (3.22.20.17) and the original recovery (WARNING: UNROOTED) from rogers dream:
http://www.stevebirstok.com/android/losemyroot.zip
"
but again, I cannot find and md5sum for the file, so I am a bit hesitant to use it if a brick could result.
I think suggestion #2 would be great if there was a checksum for the file.
I would keep a copy of it handy as well if I could verify it.

You can't downgrade the bootloader (hboot) version, period. End of story. This is NOT the end of the world though! The 2.1 leaked RUU that you used should have been a rooted developers ROM so you can use that to restore your phone, install the custom recovery, then use whatever ROM you want.

does the bootloader stopper you from using a 1.5 ROM? does it stop you from completely unrooting? i guess what im asking is, can you still flash a stock nandroid and stock recovery, would sprint notice?

If they need/want to reflash, then they will notice. You can just wait 1-? weeks for the official 2.1 Ruu, which likely will use the new bootloader.
Look, the just posted a release signed with Release keys instead of test keys. Once this is put into a proper RUU with Root it MAY fix your issue, give it 24 hours.

They leaked.
@ jlem26
I read this from the sprint community forum:
From Android Central When it rains, it pours. Just got word of a new leak for the HTC Sprint Hero. No way of knowing if this is the final 2.1 version, but this one is signed with release keys so you will lose your root for sure if you're into that sort of thing. Anyone who feels brave and wants to try for themselves you can find it here. Remember, this is not official software from any carrier. Using this is at your own risk, and nobody here at Android Central is suggesting you try it, though we're more than happy to show you where it is. Thanks Beezy420! http://www.4shared.com/file/gfPzbRcS/RUU_Hero_C_Sprint_2276515_R_si.html Haven't tried it myself...But I figured I'd post it..
I downloaded it, but I'm scared to try it.......
The new 2.1 leak is almost certainly the final, so the official Sprint update will prob. be out next week.
WARNING: the new leak is NOT ROOTED, and the old rooting methods will NOT work. (Someone took one for the team and already RUU'ed the new leak, and confirmed he could not root afterwords.)
Presumably someone somewhere is already trying new ways to root this upgrade.
I've attempted root three ways now. NO GO!
Yes, I took one for the TEAM and went ahead and ran the RUU, it's fast clean and works fine so far.
BUT.....it closes the ability to ROOT....you've been warned!
Thanks,
Bubba.
thanks for being brave! Have you had any problems so far.
No problems at all.
Phone runs smooth and fast.
Only issue is that I have NO root now. But I knew the choices going into this option.
Having said that, and being able to officially tell everyone that it in fact breaks the root abilities.....is there anyone attempting to get root with this version or will we just ignore it?
Thanks,
Bubba.
I don't see it getting ignored. I wouldn't be surprised if someone somewhere was already working on trying to figure it out.
Is the 2.1 Droid rootable?

[Q] Failed updates

I need some help. I have a revolution with 2.2.2 still on the phone. due to being a noob I tried to install a gingerbread version of a rom on the phone of course It didn't seem to work. by the way i should mention I am rooted and I can not upgrade veia the phone upgrade failed every time. However in the research I have done has lead me to believe that all of the roms I want to try to get a hold of are on a non existence web sight Right now I just need anything that will get my phone back up and running. I would very much like to use the revolt Rom but again the multiupload.com is down. Can anyone help me with this. I have searched the sight but I seem to be going around in a circle.
Ok so thank you for helping me out, however, being as I am slow to understand things. I figured things out. and just so everyone else doesn't feel bad. I have no problem with people laughing at me
this may help...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1337386&highlight=zv4&page=1
im currently dabblin with this one since my phone is still runnin 2.2.2 as well, reverted to stock rom unrooted everything and no ota updates so this is how to do it manually.
as long as its not currently bricked otherwise u have to do it the long way. i think, unless im thinkin of my old droid... but if this doesnt help give more info and someone will be able to help
regarding OTA, does anyone know the name of the file, and what folder in which to find it? Tired of having to DL it aGAIN every time whatever I try fails. I'm guessing cache....nothing seems real obvious, like it was on my Bionic
(update, got update to complete 2nd try, MtMichaelson is slightly richer!)

[Q] Fail Update from Froyo to Gingerbread. S-OFF Alpharev

Hello everyone,
First of all, I am really sorry if this is a double post ( It probably is). I have honestly tried to search a response in already existing posts and I have found that some people seem to have experienced similar issues. However, being a total newbie in development, not really understanding the whole logical structure, I was unable to efficiently transfer existing responses to my problem. Thus, if somewhere exactly the same problem was already discussed I would be glad to read the thread. In opposite, similar threads will probably not help such an ignorant as I am.
That's said, here is the problem :
I have a HTC incredible S with the following status :
Alpharev
VIVO PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
HBOOT-1.09.1000
RADIO-38.02.01.11_M
eMMC - boot
february 11 2011.....
Android 2.2.1
As the pro's have already understood I have used the Alpharev method to switch my phone into "S-OFF" and root it around a year ago. As far as I remember I haven't done anything more. If I'm using the words right, no flash of recovery partition or anything of this kind. The phone is all right - no major issues.
Recently I have tried to update the phone, finally accepting the suggestion which was annoying me for several months. I have just accepted the update to Android 2.3 using OTA (I hope to use this right, I mean that the phone had downloaded the update itself, without pc or anything else).
Unfortunately the update failed ( blocked with a black background, the phone in the middle and a red triangle on the top right corner of the phone). After waiting for a very long time, I have removed the battery and put it back - everything is ok. (no update off course)
So the questions :
1. Is it theoretically possible to use official updates while being rooted? I don't really have time to play with different ROMs, an official ROM with root access is enough for me.
1.1 If yes, how?
2. If no, can I unroot it, update it and root it again in order to have the last official update with root?
2.1 If no, I suppose that I have to use "Custom ROMs". Could you please give me a link with the most up to date method to install Custom ROMS and may be an advice of a really STABLE one?
3. What options I haven't thought about?
Once again, I understand that all this was for sure already discussed, but I was probably unable to understand it.
Thanks a lot for all future responses!

The AlphaRevX S-OFF HBOOT is preventing the OTA from getting applied successfully.
You are better off keeping S-OFF and using custom ROMs. You just need to install a custom recovery such as 4EXT Touch or ClockworkMod in order to flash custom Roms.
Thanks,
so:
1.NO
1.1 N/A
2 Probably yes, but inefficient/difficult
2.1 That's the way to go.
That's said, the phone is S-OFF, Rooted, and now I need to install custom recovery... hmmmm, where can i learn more about? Which one do you advice?
Thank you!
One more, not directly related.
Is it better to keep the current version of alpharev and hboot or is it better and possible to somehow update those parameters before installing the custom recovery?

I personally like 4EXT Touch recovery. It should be available in the Android Market/PlayStore or you can check out the link in my signature.
As for the AlphaRevX HBOOT, I would just keep it installed.

Been a while since update

Hello, It has been a while since I have kept up with ROMs on my phone. A while back I could find things quickly on here because of frequent visits, but since the search isn't the best I've been having trouble.
I would like to get my phone ready for newer ROMs by getting to newest stock and firmware. I'm s-off. Android version 4.1.2, 1.29.651.10, baseband 1.00.20.0626, unlocked, hardware version 0004, hboot 1.44, and got TWRP 2.6.3.0, TItanium Backup and my handy USB-OTG. I did come across http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2795856 with some help.
What is the easiest way to get this phone up to date and ready for installing some new ROMs? Also will I have any issues getting root or getting back to an older version of android after? I've heard of some issues when downgrading and want to make sure I can get back to my twrp backup if things don't go as planned. Plus my ubuntu dvd has died and I forget which version I needed to work best with the phone. I could use a mini refresher course if there is a thread/youtube vid about that. I know I ask for a lot, but I've been really busy and am happy to make a donation for your assistance. I'd like to be confident I'm not going to make any mistakes due to forgetfulness.
I appreciate any help you can give. Thank you.

Best way is to backup your personal data and then run an RUU, since that will update everything (hboot, firmware, radio etc). Then you can work on other stuff.
Okay, I'm trying to get this finished up today and hit a wall. I cannot get TWRP to mount my USB-OTG. Is there a fastboot way to get a file on the internal storage?
EDIT: ya know what? It finally connected. Turned it off for a while and it fixed.
