call filter/block based on modes - myTouch 3G Slide Themes and Apps

Years ago when I had a blackberry I had an application that would filter out phone calls or messages based on the mode I had selected. As an example I worked third shift so I had a sleep mode and my phone would only ring when a family member called. Is there anything like that for android?

captivate 2g only

I have done some searching around on the internet trying to find a way to set my captivate to use edge/2g network only and I have not yet been successful. I have tried using anycut, and a method that uses a special menu by dialing *#*# a number and #*#* and no luck. Are there any sure fire methods for doing this?
I just used the method of punching in *#*#197328640#*#* Clicked Debug Screen then Phone Control then UE State Control and chose Change RAT to GSM.... after that wait a few seconds and your 3G icon should change to E. I just tried this method a few minutes ago with success
Awesome just what i needed. I tried a similar shortcut dialer but had no luck. Now if only there were a way to create a one or two click shortcut for this

I got the same problem i unlocked my Captivate im on 3g speeds but the icon stills shows Edge
Hi, THANKS FOR THE TIP!!! Sometimes my Captivate runs out of signal.. GSM now is on 850..
I was wondering about this:
-Debug Screen > Phone Control > Network Control > ""Adquisition Order""
What this stands for?
Thanks..
Cant answer the last question but something I found incredibly useful was to download SamServMode from the market. It takes you straight into the service menus without dialing that string.

Thanks! You know, my Captivate doesn't seem to be very smart.. When it was on 3G (RAT to WCDMA) in a dead zone, it lost all its signal, and i couldn't send any SMS or call (While my iPhone 3G still had signal and funcionality) .. And now, on GSM (EDGE), my Captivate has 3 or more Signal bars than before...
BTW, #*0011* is the same menu!
I wish there was a quick toggle for this like there was using SBSettings on my 3gs :-/
I have NO 3G available at all in my area, but when I drive 1hr 15 mins to school, there's some 3G there. Would be nice to be able to toggle this without all the input you seem to have to do, as I feel I'm wasting battery with 3g turned on all the time and it not available
Samservmode works, and its better than remimbering that number every time. Even though you still have to navigate through the menus

Google voice

How does it work?
Do I need 3g signal?
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide using Tapatalk
No you don't need 3g... It's not voip or anything, just an all-you-can-eat voice service that latches on to your existing phone numbers, and gives you an additional phone number when if called, can make more than one of your phones ring (cell, landline, office, etc). The app gives you more convenient control to the more common features used.
Take a look on google.com/googlevoice/about.html because there is a lot to this service. I use it only to read transcriptions (sometimes very inaccurate and hilarious) of my voicemails.
Thanks

[Q] Is the Nexus 1 in Hotspot Mode able to act as a 3G modem and Handle Voice Calls??

When in hotspot mode with my Nexus One, I'm unable to use it as a 3G modem when I'm placing or taking a phone call. If I'm using it as a wireless hotspot for my laptop it works just fine until I either make a call or someone calls me. The the datalink on my phone drops. The laptop is still connected to the phone but the phone can't reach the internet.
Is this the way it should work ? or should I be able to data and voice simultaneously when wireless hotspot is active ?
Thanks
You can have simultaneous connection. I just had a call while tethering, 1/2 hour ago.
Yea I do it all the time. As long as your in 3g if your in edge then no it will not work.

Thats what I thought
The 'Cell Viewer' app indicates my signal type is HSDPA (yellow) and UMTS(3G) (red) Both show on the screen and the Signal Type fluctuates between the 2.
Signal Strength fluctuates between 6 and 9 TMobile in Indianapolis.
The hotspot function works great with my laptop..... until I make/get a phone call.
The signal type then switches to EDGE (green) until the end of the call.
Any suggestions ??

Set "WCDMA Only":

See what happens.
I believe you can restrict your connection to 3G only. In your dialer, type *#*#4636#*#* (4636 is INFO). Select phone information, then near the bottom change WCDMA preferred to WCDMA only.
You can change it back when not using Bluetooth, if you wish...
CM6 has a toggle in the power widget.

Thanks for the tip!
Thank-you. I'll try it.....let you know if I'm successful.
btw..... didn't there use to be a menu from which this selection could be made rather than having to type in the code ? It was several layers below Networks ???

[Q] Question for Airtel users in India

Hey guys, do you know how to disable the service blasts from Airtel??? NOT the promotional SMS's but the ones that say 'You have used 20 MB of your 2004 MB limit'. Please let me know cause whenever those show up, the 3g disconnects for a few secs and those pile up on top of each other if ignored and I have to go through all of them to attend a call. Much appreciated!
Message Issue
I already had a word with airtel customer care regarding the same issue but they don't have any option to turn off those messages for 3G balance deduction. I checked my Note as well I don't think there is any option in it to turn those messages off.
Do let me know if any one gets any luck.
Thanks
Ankush
i hav same issue since 3 yrs
i have had a words with then very early, but same thing i found. No solution.
Basically I am using push services, so hardly i get disconnect except changing to wifi OR service interruption. So getting msg only that time.
Actually I use 2g connection of airtel and have no such issues

Actually if it comes from same number number every time, you could black list it

I got an answer from airtel executive and that used to solve this partially. Airtel exec " sir this is because you are at place were there is access for two towers and either one will be having only 2g network as prior bandwidth, to solve this if you are not using 3g all the time switch off 3g and let the phone 2g mode. This might reduce the number of messages for you" I did so and it worked for me when am in office, when I go home switch back to 3g and this reduced those messages (almost null)

[Q] Auto Switch between 3G and 4G?

Is it possible to have an app to switch to 3G when the screen goes off, and turn on 4G when the phone is unlocked?
I found the 4G draining the battery crazily.Battery in 3G mode can last for more than 24 hours
Wow, that's an awesome idea! I would've made an app that switches between 3g and 4g if I knew how to do!

There is nothing that can do this at the moment however it may be possible in the future. I say this becasue the functionality is there to do this with Tasker and Secure Settings with the exception that our roms/kernals do not support the function of turning LTE off yet.
EDIT: txr33 has managed to figure out how to enable/disable the different states so once the rom is released I will see if Tasker and Secure Settings will support it and if so you can easily create a task in Tasker to turn 4G on/off with the screen.
